Curved Swords | Elden Ring Wiki

Curved Swords are a type of Weapon in Elden Ring. Curved Swords specialize in slashing attacks, and are capable of inflicting damage on hostile creatures without sacrificing mobility. They can also attack more quickly than many other melee weapons in Elden Ring, making them excellent against fast-moving opponents. Curved Swords, like Thrusting Swords, have a back-step feint. While charging up a heavy attack, pressing Dodge will cancel the attack and instead perform a back-step attack.

Curved Swords can use most Ashes of War, but not those that require Pierce Damage, since they cannot deal that damage type.

Note: Since Patch 1.06, the time required to roll after performing an attack has been reduced, the motion speed of strong attack and charge attack has been increased and the motion speed of Guard Counter has been increased.

NOTE: As of Patch 1.08, poise damage has been reduced, but only for PVP.

NOTE: Patch 1.09, Additionally, the running attack speed, first attack speed of straight sword has increased. The attack recovery time has also decreased.

  Interestingly enough, a lot of these (Falchion, Grossmesser, Beastman's CS, Serpent God's CS) get better AR with heavy infusion on str build, than keen infusion on dex build, even when 1 handing

  Double Magma Blade is since my second playthrough my favorite weapon, pretty good strength and faith weapon. You have to spend a lot of time to farm them but its too 100% worth it. Needed around 6h for both with standard arcane

  I genuinely can't see one reason to use this weapon class ever, it is outclassed by other weapon classes in every aspect. the only thing curved swords have going for them is status buildup, but a dual twinblade setup does the same thing way better. the only redeemable quality I can think of is that wing of astel is cool.

  It's funny because all you see with these is bleed/poison infused jump attack spam when they're really quite good just dex infused. You get lots of buffs in the two consecutive attack talismans as well as the crystal teal, plus the jump attack talisman. Your build will never be as cheesy as dual seppuku Bandit's, but I promise you'll still have a good time.

  I've been trying to go through a low-level playthrough with curved swords, trying to not use katana at all, but I fell to the darkness. Katana are just so good. More damage, more poise/stance damage, more range, innate bleed, better charged R2s, thrusting attacks... People keep saying a 2h curved sword is really good now, but I am not feeling it. Still feels to me like powerstance status spam is the only sell to this weapon class. In PvP even with sword dance I just cannot connect a single attack onto anyone with a curved sword but I have far less issue with the katana.

  It seems that I like it even more than shunter now. It's fast, easy to roll-catch with. It has no HA and I love it. You can't trade with hits using 2h shamshir and that only makes it more enjoyable to use. It has my favorite R1 chain, my favorite back step attack(2h thrusting sword one shares the same position with it). That's my favorite weapon in the game.

  Imo, the single best way to use these is to power-stance blood-infused curved swords on an Arcane build and focus on throwing out jumping/dashing Power Stance attacks. Those 4-hit attacks stack up status build like nothin' else.

  My ideal cs would have the look of the grossmesser (or rather the look of the kilij in DSR), the one-handed moveset of the shamshir/scimitar, the heavies of the flowing curved sword and the jumping attacks of the beastman cs. Not sure about the aow, sword dance fits obviously, but for purely gameplay reasons I tend to two-hand a single cs with the cragblade aow.

  I overlooked curved swords for a while referring bigger weapons but these do have a pretty good moveset and I really like the flowing animations. Much like every weapon category balance is not great but I think these are fun to use and that is all that matters.

  It makes no sense at all that they use the stabbing animation for critical hits if they can't actually do piercing damage, they should be either made Slash/Pierce damage or change the critical hit animation to the 2 part slash like the Curved Greatswords

  So when you hit stone-type enemies (miners, stonetroll etc) with dual-wielded L1 or one-handed R1 it always bounces off. Two-handed R1 works fine. Does it always work like that or do I need 50% extra stat requirements like in Dark Souls 2?

  Aside from the occasional embarrassing moment where your swords are just a little too stumpy to hit your target, dual-wielded curved swords are super fun in PvE. High damage output, lots of combos, a number of viable infusion paths you can tailor to whatever area or boss you're facing -- what's not to love?

  I can PvP and PvE with the two-handed moveset just fine, in fact I find it safer and more consistent in PvP. Dodging the powerstance running attack and jump is quite easy if you don't panic roll. Saying there's only 3 powerstance attacks that are worth it is wrong. You just need to practice guys.

  From went to lengths to ensure these were not the PVP machines they were in 3, hoo boy. These things have one move and one move only, powerstance running L1. Which is a pretty good move. But also, I can hit someone for over 1000 with a running L1, and then proceed to miss five in a row right in their face while they're doing nothing to defend themselves, and the next one that actually connects deals less than 200. Wildly inconsistent. I've had markedly better success with katana, thrusting swords, and straight swords.

  Dual curved sword running attack is really frustrating to play against in pvp for me. Comes out really quickly, and the range is also really deceptive, since the player gets kind of a boost of speed and lunges forward when using it. Very easy to be roll-caught with it, and in situations where you need to run to reposition, it's very hard to avoid getting hit by it, since I think the active frames of the attack are quite long, as opposed to say, dual Great Spears which feel more straightforward to roll-dodge.

  there may not be a new fast curved sword with the range of the pkcs but there is something similar. i introduce you to the wing of astel. although it is a slow curved sword, it r2 which launches a magic slash similar to the moonveil l2 r1 but weaker but yet faster. with some timing it is an efficient roll catching tool to have on your belt. since the wing of astel is an intel scaling weapon it can be paired with a staff with carian slicer. ive ran this set up and it absolutely shreds, carian slicer being you bread and butter attack and let the r2's of the wing of astel do the roll catching then add some spell mixups and combo casting like swift shard to comet or spiral shard, you now then have a powerful and fun build.
