Colossal Weapons are a type of Weapon in Elden Ring (not to be confused with Colossal Swords). Colossal Weapons are heavy weapons which require the wielder to have high Strength. They are capable of inflicting massive damage to enemies but are slow, making its wielder vulnerable to enemy attacks.

Colossal Weapons are compatible with a range of different Ashes of War, allowing you to mix and match for whatever your needs may be.

Elden Ring Colossal Weapon Range Comparison

NOTEAs of Patch 1.08Colossal Weapons poise damage has been reduced.

Radahn helmet, guardian garb(blooming version), and one of these bad boys. Now you really wont be able to see infront of you.

Colossal Weapon is such a broad term honestly it's a shame they weren't more creative. Like imagine some colossal crab claws, or a colossal flail, that would've been really neat, and still fit in the term "colossal weapon"

        • Anonymous

Like others have already suggested, the Colossal Weapon category should have been fractionated into two categories that are more specific: Colossal Axes and Colossal Hammers.

Weapons like the literal axes, the Golem's Halberd, and maybe Ghizas Wheel and the Fallingstar Beastjaw could have been the axes, while the rest could be classed as hammers. This way there could have been better moveset variety for these weapons, since the regular Colossal moveset just doesn't go well with the axe and axe-like weapons.

          • Anonymous

are they the most viable? probably not, other classes have much better options.... but are they fun af when you make them work? hell yeah

            • Anonymous

Really hard to play against a passive player with these, you have pretty much no choice but to have an off hand weapon to be aggressive

              • Anonymous

Colossal swords are bad Colossal weapons are superior in pvp I always do 1000 damage per r1 with 99 strength even on like full armored dudes.

                • Anonymous

Now I know why I feel like I am hitting things so far away with the Fallingstar. The thing has range a good chunk longer than the weapon itself.

If you are determined like me to play through the game within a single weapon type the Golem's Halberd is the first obtainable colossal weapon in Stormveil Castle. But the Watchdog's Staff is also obtainable rather early. Anything else requires you to get to the Atlas Plateau at least. Which is fine considering that most of these weapons also have pretty intense strength and weight requirements so you won't be equipping them that early anyway. They are also not very good but that sounds like quitting talk to me. Probably not worth looking into if you do pvp but I don't so I don't care.

You're infinitely better off with 2 greathammers. Been testing on Malenia, playing through the entire first phase doing jump attacks with dual colossals (Axe of Godfrey + Heavy Prelate's, 75 str) and didn't get a single stagger. Do the same with 2 heavy pickaxes and you get one in 3 jumps. Absolutely insane

                      • Anonymous

Really should have split these into "Colossal Hammers" and "Colossal Axes", with unique movesets between the two. Dropped the ball here pretty hard along with powerstance movesets on all weapons.

After a couple hundred hours of practice, I have made some of these viable in PvP, even against meta setups like powerstanced straight swords and great spears. The best one to use in PvP is the golem's halberd, mostly because of its range. The mist ashes (poison mist, chilling mist and sacred blade) are the best ones for PvP and I land them pretty regularly.

Since the attack speed has been increased, these weapons do now combo with storm stomp. Gravitas is an ok choice as well since it's fast for a colossal attack. Roll catch potential is there as well, though the timing takes some practice. R1 into reverse backstep R1 is a pretty good combo if someone is spam rolling away from you, especially with golem's halberd because it's so long.

Having spent quite some time using these in PvP, I can say that the biggest issue I currently have is aim punch. If you don't know what that is, try searching on YouTube for an explanation. I regularly miss attacks that I should not have due to aim punch. If this gets corrected, this weapon class will certainly not be S tier in PvP, but it will be a lot better. I have lost many duels/engagements solely due to aim punch.

What’s the incentive to use colossals if their poise damage is castrated? I mean, seeing the high AR on screen is nice, but I can easily deal more REAL damage with 400 AR straight swords powerstanced. And I can break stances even faster, in PVP and PVE.

Honestly, why is From so afraid to just make colossals OP? If you’re going to let people 1 shot everything with bleed or magic, then just give colossals an average of 1600-1900 AR without any buffs. Or at least give them viable hyperamor and more unique movesets.

                            • Anonymous

fixing aim punch would be a huge step forward in making these viable for pvp, the fact that a trade is never guaranteed really kills them.

I doubt Colossal weapons will ever be good in Elden Ring unless they do some extensive rebalancing, or even reworking of the combat system.

In Dark Souls 3, you'd hyper armor through attacks with your ultra weapon, and get a guaranteed R1 R1 combo so you could trade well with lesser weapons; it was the juxtaposition to faster weapons being less risky to attack with and faster to start-up.

But in Elden ring, there are no R1 R1 combos, Frost/Bleed always breaks poise, Frost/Bleed dual wielding out damages you on every trade, and needless to say, their move sets are much faster too; the only way to take this weapon class out of the gutter through pure numerical buffs is nothing short of giving them enough AR to kill people in 1 hit.

The naked man with a large club isnt so scary anymore...

Colossal swords got all the love, now there is no reason to use colossal weapons apart from negligibly higher poise damage

                                  • Anonymous

You gotta admit, it’s a bit ridiculous that a katana crouch L1 won a trade against the highest AR collosal buffed by golden vow and superior armor. I have better armor, better resistances and still lost a trade to a slashing crouch attack. And how is it I can reliably guard counter against other collosals but fists will always guard break and win any trades against my collosal? SKilL iSsuE

"NOTE: As of Patch 1.08, Colossal Weapons poise damage has been reduced. " in other words, the already weakest and by far worst weapon class in the game has been further nerfed meanwhile bleed remains a cheat code and rivers of blood is literally press R2= win. Nice, completely makes sense

It is actually quite baffling how bad most of these weapons are. The hammer and axe variants aren't even good in pve, let alone against any player that actually knows what they're doing. As a general rule of thumb, if the weapon/build sucks against Malenia, it's going to be even worse in pvp.

                                        • Anonymous

They would become way more viable if they bug fixed the Shockwave element of the frame data of these weapons, added more lingering hitboxes and finally allowed them to do damage on shockwaves.

Most attacks literally only have 2 frames of a hitbox coupled by 1 frame of an unusable feature that takes space in the animation of the weapon.

No one is talking about this, so I want to say it so that nobody makes the same mistake that I did; Colossal Weapon poise damage is not made equal.
As of writing this, the ones that deal standard damage (Duelist Greataxe, Rotten Greataxe, Golem’s Halberd, Dragon Greatclaw, Ghiza’s Wheel & Axe of Godfrey) have less Poise damage on most of their attacks than the other Colossal Weapons, according to three different ER Weapon Motion Value charts. For some reason that I cannot comprehend, the charged 1h & 2hR2s with non-Strike C.Ws will deal less Poise damage than the (respective) charged 1h & 2hR2s of literally any Great Hammer.
I found this all out the hard way; tried to stagger Maliketh with a (2hR1, 2hR1, charged 2hR2) combo with Ghiza’s Wheel during his Blasphemous Claw parried animation, and the combo didn’t open him to a critical strike, but it worked when it was performed the exact same way with the Watchdog’s Staff.

Colossals are ass in PVE if you're going for staggers. Great hammers are much faster and only do slightly less stagger damage.

PVP speaks for itself.. you have no chance

FromSoftware when my Axe of Godfrey lands 1.5 cm next to my enemy's body: "Sorry you missed"
Also FromSoftware when a thrusting weapon/dagger running attack lands half a meter behind your back: "Haha, get hit idiot, 1 meter phantom hitbox go hard"

more often than not the hyperarmor just screws you over, because you'll just whiff because of aimpunch and then eat like 4 R1s to the face

                                                    • Anonymous

the R2s on these things really deserve to go further, especially charged version. you'd be lucky to hit anything that isn't standing still

                                                      • Anonymous

1.08 indirectly buffed these (in PvP) by lowering the poise damage on lighter weapons. Much easier to poise through a light weapon attack and win the trade.

                                                        • Anonymous

Ever since 1.0, colossal weapons are lackluster in every way compared to smaller weapons with the exception of jump attack spec. Even when you jump you will be vulnerable when airbourne, so it's not that great, many enemies will stagger and then rape you before you can hit them. Slow = masochism in this game. I think Str stat should increase swing speed of great and colossal weapons, or increase resistance to flinch during attack.

                                                          • Anonymous

honestly im just glad thrusting swords get hitboxes the size of neptune but colossals whiff when theres a slight breeze. amazing

                                                            • I tested it with Cheat Engine (show posture bar). G-Crush and Prelate's hammer do quite the same posture damage between R1 and "Charged" R2 (lower posture dmg than charged R2 of any Straight swords)

so disappointing for the heaviest weapon (not a shield) in the game

Seems like giant crusher and prelate both do less poise damage than other colossal boys. Can anyone confirm?

                                                                • Anonymous

The surprisingly best AoW to slap on these weapons is War Cry (or its superior version Braggart's roar), into fully charged R2s.
                                                                  1. Insane damage and poise damage with correct setup (highland axe off-hand, axe, roar, godfrey talismans, charged attack and poise damage tears).
                                                                  2. When your character starts fully charging heavy attacks, he kinda leans forward and becomes shorter, thus much harder to hit with horizontal attacks. As such, some overhead attacks will miss you entirely. This proved especially useful against runebears and those scary lions with implanted blades, as long as you stay underneath them. For non-horizontal attacks, stack as much armor poise as you can.
                                                                  3. Fully charged heavy attacks apply TWICE the build-up of whatever status effect with colossals. Tested on the giant with The Rotten Greataxe outside Godrick arena, with bleed and rot proccing twice as fast.
I don't say you will reliably hit ALL charged heavies, but when you do, the dopamine surge will be worth it.

                                                                  • Anonymous

Does Fromsoft even know what physics is?!

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

Other weapons just don't feel the same. The masculine desire to take the heaviest stick and bonk is strong with these.

                                                                          • Anonymous

Even thought Rotten Greataxe and Rotten Staff seem like quite the meme weapon, if you powerstance these weapons then you can get a far superior CR1 (a downgraded version of UGS pokes), with the same hyperarmor properties on weapons that apply scarlet rot. You can also apply rot grease to the rotten greataxe.

The main drawback of this set up is the insane ENDURANCE necesary to dual wield the Colossals with armor that has enough poise. But the main advantage of it its the posibility to hard counter PS greatspears, PS straightswords and UGS by using the different moves that grant over 130 to 160 total poise with the necesary gear.

                                                                            • Anonymous

In the context of Bull-goat's talisman, having the talisman equiped boosts every single attack of the Colossal Weapon class significantly, allowing you to even poise through Colossal Swords with ease with certain moves. For example, at 46 armor poise and Bull-goat's talisman equiped you can poise through Colossal swords' pokes with R1, R2, jumping R2 and running R2, the best move is R1.

                                                                              • Anonymous

You can bait people into rollcatching you by panic rolling randomly at a duel, since Colossals get priority out of crouch attacks against almost every single weapon in the game you can land a 2-h or 1-h CR1 or even a block cancell R1 out of crouch if you predict the attack coming early. Just remember to have enough poise to do so, having bullgoat talisman buffs your hyperarmor too.

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

PVP info: Glintblade phalanx is probably one of the best AOW to pair with these weapons since you can abuse the heck out of the garanteed hitstun that these blades provide, I recomend using this AOW on a primary hand weapon such as a thursting sword and softswap the weapon for the Colossal when you are done so that you can land the slower moves such as backstep R1, R1, running R1 and jumping R1 because of the hitstun.

The mayor flaw of the Glintblade Phalanx is the cast time and the skill floor needed to use them effectively, if you are able to go beyond these weaknesses then you can gain access to one of the most skill expresive AOW in the entire game, this set up is an insane noob stomper against casuals, I constantly end up buffing like once or twice during duels because my opponents can't figure out a way to get too close (and I have no clue why), and when they too close and make a mistake then I just look at them to trigger the glintblades, get the hitstun and deal between 500 to 1000 damage on a true combo with hyperarmor. This is very fun to execute and it is such a decent way to make a weapon with such a trash neutral game very good when combined with the poison infusion.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                      PVP info:

I have found that, when infused on Poison, Colossal Weapons can get a very decent neutral game thanks to phantom hits and the obnoxious poison stat that they get (+132 at lv.25), that combined with Poisonous Mist can turn the weapon into a deadly force against non-experienced players. This also allows to set up a jumping attack on people who try to use boluses too close from the user of the Colossal Weapon.

Also, Poisonous Mist AOW on Golem's Halberd is a very good AOW, I recomend you trying it as a starting AOW if you are new to the weapon class so that you can pressure people even if you miss all the time, just remember to keep your spacing and stamina always in check so that you don't get into a situation where you can't dodge roll out of dange or into a scenario where you can get backstabed very easily.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                        • Anonymous

Looks like Prelate's Charge start-up blends almost perfectly with the blocking animation while using a Colossal, with the only visual indicator being the flames starting to appear and the weapon turning 90° to the side.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

If you ever find trouble attacking hyperagressive people in PVP with any infusable colossal, use Stamp (Sweep) as a punish, I have found this specialy effective against UGS users while using a bleed infused golem halberd. Just remember that it can be punished very easily and it doesn't cover jump attacks.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

People, I have found that Storm Stomp AOW can actually true combo into an R1 if you hit someone with the AOW right about the end, it is not a reliable strategy, but it helps to counter hyperagression while using the weapon class in PVP.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                • Anonymous

Even within the same weapon class axes are still gimped. Despite having the exact same moveset as the hammer colossal weapons they have lower hyperarmor and poise damage. why?

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

I didn't have the requirements for any of the colossal weapons when I found them, and I didn't invest in attributes with any of them in mind later in my game. I've just tried some out on the guardians around the smouldering church in caelid, all hit hard even with no upgrades, and I could see the skill needed to use them effectively when I target locked an enemy but couldn't see it anymore because the weapon was in the way. but I have some questions as well, and I'd appreciate it if anyone who's using them as their main weapons would answer. I tried ghiza's wheel first, seemed like it could be a fun weapon to use but it had a detrimental effect on the camera, as if the right stick was being pulled back slightly to look up, I don't know if its intentional to give a feeling of weight but it didn't feel right to me even if that is the case. exact same thing with dragon greatclaw, prelate's crozier and great club but those three all had issues with the R1 input not always registering as well as making the camera behave oddly, (didn't run out of stamina) left me just standing there doing nothing, crozier was the worst for not reacting to R1 inputs, the weapon art on it wasn't consistent for me either, I had plenty of FP to use it, but prelates charge was going into the uppercut hit when I was still pushing forward on left stick, its supposed to keep the hammer head on the ground laying down fire in a AoE until either the FP runs out or L2 is released then do the upper cut. there were some issues with golden land on the great club as well but I think that might be about the scaling or maybe not being upgraded. so is the wonky camera the price of admission for those weapons? to give them a feeling of weight? and is anyone else having R1 inputs not working or inconsistency in the weapon arts on these particular weapons?

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                                        • The crouch stab attack of these isn't so bad, it is one of the better attacks in the game. Fast recovery, big circular hitbox, big extra poise. It's just that the range is low compared to the longer colossal sword pokes. These are W I D E, those are Looooong.
