Colossal Weapons are a type of Weapon in Elden Ring (not to be confused with Colossal Swords). Colossal Weapons are heavy weapons which require the wielder to have high Strength. They are capable of inflicting massive damage to enemies but are slow, making its wielder vulnerable to enemy attacks.
Colossal Weapons are compatible with a range of different Ashes of War, allowing you to mix and match for whatever your needs may be.

Don't care how they perform in pvp, this is such a fun weapon class to use in pve. Nothing feels better than landing a fully charged R2 and seing that boss healthbar go down by a big amount
- Anonymous
this isn't the best class in pvp but it's always great to drop a tryhard when these hit their stride
- Anonymous
What're you gonna do with that big weapon? gonna hit me? better make it count. better make it hurt. better kill me in one shot
- Anonymous
Dragon Greatclaw being the lightest of em all is just...
Or do dragons have hollow bones like birds? Im confused.
- Anonymous
We might have an entire class of colossals now, but in my heart Ledo's Greathammer will always remain the biggest boy
- Anonymous
Need a colossal whip in my life they heavy slams on the floor would remind me of the beast cutter
- Anonymous
none of these are anything special. some can get the same AR as the greatsword, but the moveset is just bad regardless of the weapon and a lot of them have unacceptable damage for how slow these are. just use ANY colossal sword, or some other STR weapon like beastman's cleaver or stone club. your experience will be a lot better.
all of them: generally unfavorable moveset; only 1 attack per "chain" on horseback, terrible rolling attack
duelist/rotten: too low range, former never drops
golem halberd: good R2s and damage but never drops, ever
giant crusher: very impractical, R2 is too slow, somehow too short
prelate: more practical than GC but covers up the center of your screen
great club: decent damage but mediocre skill
troll's hammer: just mid
greatclaw: awful excuse of a weapon
watchdog: carried by skill, mediocre at everything else
rotten/avatar: just mid
envoy: almost as bad as greatclaw, but saved by funny bubble
wheel: sadly useless
jaw: carried by skill
axe of godfrey: bad AR, skill is rarely useful
- Anonymous
Do people really not like the rolling attacks on these? I kind of find them sneaky good at landing hits
- Anonymous
Rolling attack is slow, has little forward momentum / range. It runes the entire weapon class and is poorly balanced with collossal swords which are very similar in weight and stat requirement.

What is disappointing about colossal weapons is that most of them have a monotonous moveset that isn’t great even for pve since great hammers exist and this last weapon class has better options
There’s also the fact that few of them get unique features. Only axe of godfrey, envoy greathorn, fallingstar jaw, ghiza wheel and watchdog staff.
Ghiza wheel is very unique and is that type of weapon that you can use regardless of not being the best, but it should’ve been buffed by sword insignia and millicent prosthesis with its skill
Giant crusher, great club and fire prelate crozier are kinda similar but giant crusher’s better. Besides they do massive damage have a neat moveset and can be infused. And golem halberd is awesome with its aow but an insult that you can’t preserve it with an affinity.
Pretty much all of the colossal weapons I’ve talked about get some love and the worst of those are still usable.
The rest of colossal weapons? Trash almost. Those are heavily outclassed either by their own weapon class remaining options or pretty much with other aows from different weapon classes. Like erdtree slam from staff of avatar, which does less raw and posture damage than golden slam aow.
Only way these could’ve had a bit of relevance was by having them get unique movements or aows in compensation for the heavy requirements. But still that won’t happen they’ll remain the same
- Anonymous
If you are dedicated to using a colossal weapon, put all of that Endurance, you had to invest in, to good use.
Stop wasting your time trying to Powerstance with them, speedy targets will always laugh at you.
Also, have you tried the Running R1/R2 + Reverse-backstep R1 with these weapons?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
They're not any worse than colossal swords until you do a rolling attack, which misses more often than not.
Changing that awful attack would be better than any buff, but will never happen.
- Anonymous
These weapons so fun when you dont got some ***** in yo ear telling you they're outclassed by xyz
- Anonymous
cool unique colossal-centric pvp build you have there, too bad i have 300 ms latency and cleanrot knight sword
- Anonymous
The absorption buff to hyper armor is actually a nerf to this class. Great swords get same absorption boost, damage damage but more speed, less recovery and L2s that can one shot combo chain. And pretty much any hyper armor L2 can reaction trade a collosal. I can’t tell you how many times some sweat simply switches to storm blade to trade hit my collosal away… or storm stomp, or storm assault, or spinning slash, etc etc. Until collosal r1s can 2 shot G9 enthusiasts builds, they will be useless.
- Anonymous
im not gonna sugar coat it. giant crusher + giant crusher + A + L1
- Anonymous
damage is quite low until late game when the scaling starts picking up the slack.
- Anonymous
You guys calling for massive damage buffs should probably keep in mind that these are already some of the best weapons in PvE when combined with Ashes of War like Lion's Claw or Braggart's Roar, that don't benefit from attackspeed or powerstancing, but just the poise damage, the AR and reach of the weapon.
Giant crusher is pretty famous for killing bosses like Radagon without even pressing the dodge button once, just tanking some damage with the Lion's Claw hyperarmor and chain-poise breaking the bosses.
- Anonymous
These are so slow, if you break your enemy's stance with a jumping attack, you'll literally be unable to do the ripost which absolutely shouldn't be a thing.
Also just make these unparryable. None of the parry shields ingame pack enough punch to deflect any of these
- Anonymous
I want a colossal great axe for pure strength builds with the elden ring dlc. We've got colossal strength swords, colossal strength hammers, even a colossal strength halberd but no colossal strength axe. A shame considering almost all of the normal greataxes are pure strength weapons.
Godfrey's axe was supposed to fill the niche but somehow it's a quality weapon that requires dex. Godfraud.
- Anonymous
colossal in elden ring just plain suck. Need an overhaul. The damage, weight, reach, speed is just way off. Doesn't make any sense.
- Anonymous
I mean… all the perks of a collosal hammer you can get with a great sword. I’m not even talking about collosal swords I’m talking about just great swords. I tried making a glass cannon build with 50 vigor, prophet armor and double stat investment into orders blade/great club… same hits to kill as a great sword if I’m fighting a G9 enjoyer. Literally need double current damage to be ok
- Anonymous
Hmm, maybe too big for me. However I respect every men for using these.
- Anonymous
most people here are judging these weapons by their pvp viability.
so as someone who doesn't do much pvp, i say go for it.
huge weapon, huge damage, huge stagger, a couple jump attacks can open melanoma up for a riposte. just all around, pretty solid weapons for pve
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
The three axes should have gotten a faster/better moveset so you could actually hit something with these slow metal plates. Obviously slower than greataxes but an in-between of colossal and greataxe speed would be nice.
- Anonymous
Hopefully the DLC adds a colossal weapon for Arcane builds.
- Anonymous
I dont think the problem is the damage (its huge), or hyperarmor (its huge) or damage reduction (its ok). The problem is the moveset. It's very telegraphed on R1s, slow and they dont really hit horizontal to rollcatch or punish backstab fishers. Some R2s are good: Golem's Halberd R2s are nice, the 2nd one suprises people, cause its quite fast. Also Great Club's R2 is the attack I land consistently cause it doesnt looke like you're attacking until its too late. But the standard R2, especially one handed.... awful. And there's no point having vertical slow R2 when your R1 is already slow and more vertical and horizontal. I'd love to pair it with a casting tool for a hybrid build, either muscle mage or having lightning incantation followups, but the 1H moveset simply does not work

aimpunch is significantly improved, though still present in some cases.

1.10 made these way better than before. The only issue I have though is it still didn't do anything with the diminishing returns on colossal weapons. There is literally 0 reasons to spec into tons of endurance, strength and vigor to trade using a colossal when you can get the same damage numbers by spamming R1 twice with a curved sword. Colossal weapons need a serious rework, maybe an entire moveset change. Ledos in DS3 was the biggest and heaviest weapon (and while it was classed as a greathammer, it'd easily go as a colossal in Elden ring), yet it never felt clumsy or overly slow simply cause its moveset was good and the damage actually made up for all the levels invested into it. The left-to-right strike moveset in DS3 was way more useful and practical than Elden Ring's overhead slams with the colossal without feeling too fast or cheesy. In ER you have a longer animation with less space covered per each hit. That's the main reason why colossal swords outperform colossal weapons in close to any scenario, a single hit can cover a good 50-60% of space around your character while using the Greatsword properly, colossal weapons can't come close to that with their more vertical moveset. You can still just straif colossal weapon R1s if you know what you're doing. I think if they straight up just slapped Ledos R1 moveset onto every colossal weapon, they'd instantly be more viable without any damage balancing whatsoever.
- Anonymous
This class as a whole is now far more viable following the 1.10 patch. No aimpunch, and these weapons dish out the highest poise damage in the game and also sport the highest inherent weapon poise in the game too. Combined with high armor poise, you can tank nearly anything except for other colossal weapons in most cases.
Things that are extra good now like storm stomp, sword dance, black flame tornado, storm assualt and others cannot hyperarmor through just one 2H R1 attack of a strike damage colossal, but you can hyperarmor through all of these ashes and more with a well timed counter attack.
I've been playing with colossal weapons in PvP for a long time and this patch has absolutely made them way better. My favorite one to use is the prelates crozier since it's R2 has some situational use and has crazy high hyperarmor.
- Anonymous
These are now really good against great type weapons, as you can reaction trade on a lot of attacks. They do have a harder time against smaller weapons though, as they are usually too fast to trade with, but you should still be able to win if you're good with colossals.
- Anonymous
What's the point of being able to "win" trades with hyper armour against tiny weapons if they do the same damage back to you and roll away?

My strength brothers. You've despaired, you've endured, you've grown stronger and now aimpunch is finally fixed. We can take the training weights off and deliver the greatest of bonks. i knew this day would come, we knew this day would come. It's now our turn to have fun.
- Anonymous
Why can only 1 of the normal heavy attack colossal weapon be infused with ashes of war. its the smallest colossal too :(
- Anonymous
I don't really understand the class repartition.
Why are most colossal weapons called "great (weapon class)", why are colossal swords their own class instead of in the global class with already 3 weapon types, and lastly, why do their moveset suck compared to big swords, but the two last questions really answers one another.
Nice job devs.
- Anonymous
They basically killed this entire class when they gave major speed buffs to the great weapons. Greatswords outrange, outspeed, and sometimes outdamage my colossal. They also break the hyperarmor, so i cant even trade.
- Anonymous
These should counter daggers pretty hard, since they have superior range, extra poise, and higher damage. But then they go ahead and do nothing about aimpunch, leaving these useless against any quick weapon.
- Anonymous
They better add a dlc weapon that take your entire life force to swing like black knight greataxe

love playing against metalords with these, as soon as they see me swing their brain goes into backstab fishing mode, and you can punish them super easily with the 180 degree tracking of the prelates hammer heavy attack or sweep of the golem halberd r2
- Anonymous
I would rather use a colossal sword than weapon, as a sword is better. But greatswords are the best and are good
- Anonymous
Fromsoft look bro I know you want to give us speed boosts and scaling changes but COLOSSALS ARE NEVER GOING TO BE A FUN WEAPON CLASS UNTIL YOU FIX THE AIMPUNCH

Colossal Weapon is such a broad term honestly it's a shame they weren't more creative. Like imagine some colossal crab claws, or a colossal flail, that would've been really neat, and still fit in the term "colossal weapon"
- Anonymous
I.... i just got aimpunched by BRIAR ARMOR? ARE YOU SERIOUS???
- Anonymous
Like others have already suggested, the Colossal Weapon category should have been fractionated into two categories that are more specific: Colossal Axes and Colossal Hammers.
Weapons like the literal axes, the Golem's Halberd, and maybe Ghizas Wheel and the Fallingstar Beastjaw could have been the axes, while the rest could be classed as hammers. This way there could have been better moveset variety for these weapons, since the regular Colossal moveset just doesn't go well with the axe and axe-like weapons.

Really hard to play against a passive player with these, you have pretty much no choice but to have an off hand weapon to be aggressive

Colossal swords are bad Colossal weapons are superior in pvp I always do 1000 damage per r1 with 99 strength even on like full armored dudes.

If you are determined like me to play through the game within a single weapon type the Golem's Halberd is the first obtainable colossal weapon in Stormveil Castle. But the Watchdog's Staff is also obtainable rather early. Anything else requires you to get to the Atlas Plateau at least. Which is fine considering that most of these weapons also have pretty intense strength and weight requirements so you won't be equipping them that early anyway. They are also not very good but that sounds like quitting talk to me. Probably not worth looking into if you do pvp but I don't so I don't care.
- Anonymous
You're infinitely better off with 2 greathammers. Been testing on Malenia, playing through the entire first phase doing jump attacks with dual colossals (Axe of Godfrey + Heavy Prelate's, 75 str) and didn't get a single stagger. Do the same with 2 heavy pickaxes and you get one in 3 jumps. Absolutely insane
- Anonymous
Really should have split these into "Colossal Hammers" and "Colossal Axes", with unique movesets between the two. Dropped the ball here pretty hard along with powerstance movesets on all weapons.
- Anonymous
After a couple hundred hours of practice, I have made some of these viable in PvP, even against meta setups like powerstanced straight swords and great spears. The best one to use in PvP is the golem's halberd, mostly because of its range. The mist ashes (poison mist, chilling mist and sacred blade) are the best ones for PvP and I land them pretty regularly.
Since the attack speed has been increased, these weapons do now combo with storm stomp. Gravitas is an ok choice as well since it's fast for a colossal attack. Roll catch potential is there as well, though the timing takes some practice. R1 into reverse backstep R1 is a pretty good combo if someone is spam rolling away from you, especially with golem's halberd because it's so long.
Having spent quite some time using these in PvP, I can say that the biggest issue I currently have is aim punch. If you don't know what that is, try searching on YouTube for an explanation. I regularly miss attacks that I should not have due to aim punch. If this gets corrected, this weapon class will certainly not be S tier in PvP, but it will be a lot better. I have lost many duels/engagements solely due to aim punch.
- Anonymous
What’s the incentive to use colossals if their poise damage is castrated? I mean, seeing the high AR on screen is nice, but I can easily deal more REAL damage with 400 AR straight swords powerstanced. And I can break stances even faster, in PVP and PVE.
Honestly, why is From so afraid to just make colossals OP? If you’re going to let people 1 shot everything with bleed or magic, then just give colossals an average of 1600-1900 AR without any buffs. Or at least give them viable hyperamor and more unique movesets.
- Anonymous
basically just colossal swords but with on average worse range and a far inferior moveset
- Anonymous
fixing aim punch would be a huge step forward in making these viable for pvp, the fact that a trade is never guaranteed really kills them.
- Anonymous
I doubt Colossal weapons will ever be good in Elden Ring unless they do some extensive rebalancing, or even reworking of the combat system.
In Dark Souls 3, you'd hyper armor through attacks with your ultra weapon, and get a guaranteed R1 R1 combo so you could trade well with lesser weapons; it was the juxtaposition to faster weapons being less risky to attack with and faster to start-up.
But in Elden ring, there are no R1 R1 combos, Frost/Bleed always breaks poise, Frost/Bleed dual wielding out damages you on every trade, and needless to say, their move sets are much faster too; the only way to take this weapon class out of the gutter through pure numerical buffs is nothing short of giving them enough AR to kill people in 1 hit.
The naked man with a large club isnt so scary anymore...
- Anonymous
Slow attacks AND slow recovery, should be one or the other from, not both.
- Anonymous
Colossal swords got all the love, now there is no reason to use colossal weapons apart from negligibly higher poise damage
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
You gotta admit, it’s a bit ridiculous that a katana crouch L1 won a trade against the highest AR collosal buffed by golden vow and superior armor. I have better armor, better resistances and still lost a trade to a slashing crouch attack. And how is it I can reliably guard counter against other collosals but fists will always guard break and win any trades against my collosal? SKilL iSsuE

"NOTE: As of Patch 1.08, Colossal Weapons poise damage has been reduced. " in other words, the already weakest and by far worst weapon class in the game has been further nerfed meanwhile bleed remains a cheat code and rivers of blood is literally press R2= win. Nice, completely makes sense
- Anonymous
It is actually quite baffling how bad most of these weapons are. The hammer and axe variants aren't even good in pve, let alone against any player that actually knows what they're doing. As a general rule of thumb, if the weapon/build sucks against Malenia, it's going to be even worse in pvp.
- Anonymous
They would become way more viable if they bug fixed the Shockwave element of the frame data of these weapons, added more lingering hitboxes and finally allowed them to do damage on shockwaves.
Most attacks literally only have 2 frames of a hitbox coupled by 1 frame of an unusable feature that takes space in the animation of the weapon.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
For PvE, theres faster poisebreaking options available, for PvP, don't even bother.
- Anonymous
No one is talking about this, so I want to say it so that nobody makes the same mistake that I did; Colossal Weapon poise damage is not made equal.
As of writing this, the ones that deal standard damage (Duelist Greataxe, Rotten Greataxe, Golem’s Halberd, Dragon Greatclaw, Ghiza’s Wheel & Axe of Godfrey) have less Poise damage on most of their attacks than the other Colossal Weapons, according to three different ER Weapon Motion Value charts. For some reason that I cannot comprehend, the charged 1h & 2hR2s with non-Strike C.Ws will deal less Poise damage than the (respective) charged 1h & 2hR2s of literally any Great Hammer.
I found this all out the hard way; tried to stagger Maliketh with a (2hR1, 2hR1, charged 2hR2) combo with Ghiza’s Wheel during his Blasphemous Claw parried animation, and the combo didn’t open him to a critical strike, but it worked when it was performed the exact same way with the Watchdog’s Staff.

They did colossal so dirty. Just use an ugs, odds are you're going to score more hits with it.

Colossals are ass in PVE if you're going for staggers. Great hammers are much faster and only do slightly less stagger damage.
