Fire Prelate is a Humanoid Enemy in Elden Ring. A large enemy covered in armor, wielding a large red hammer or a red thorny whip. The vessel on their head can be ignited at will, spewing a constant rain of fire around them.

The weighty frames of the Prelates symbolized the onus of their grave vows as guardians of the flame.

"Etch this sight upon thine breast. Of my thunderous gravity."

Fire Prelate Notes, Tips, & Trivia

  • Hammer-wielding Prelates are a possible reference to Executioner Smough, in both appearance and moveset. The Prelates’ Charge is a clear indicator of their similarity.
  • In the official Gameplay Reveal trailer, a Fire Prelate was shown in the arena of the Red Wolf of Radagon.

the whip version should've been a boss to replace one of the repeated boss fights. There's only one in the entire game and you can just run past him even though he's a super hard and tanky enemy

No info on resistances or weaknesses?

If the armor is any indication (and it usually is,) these Fire Prelates should be fought with slash or pierce weapons (equally effective,) and lightning first, holy second, magic third, and fire obviously last.

Their lowest armor resistance is Vitality so death blight is a decent option. Robustness is next and it allows for blood loss and frostbite to be good approaches. Immunity is third so poison and rot are less effective but not ineffective. Their highest resistance stat is Focus so probably don't bother with sleep or madness.

Can someone double check the drop on the greaves? I'm probably just coping but there's no way I've been farming for 2 hours with 185 discovery, got 11 chests, 11 gloves, 1 helmet, and enough runes for levels 139, 140, and 141 without a single greaves drop. Right? Right??

They do Smough cosplay as a testament to the weight of their responsibilities.
Their lordvessel hats go sicko mode when they reach enlightened levels of Faith investment that no Tarnished alive can ever match.
One of them was so disgusted at the laziness of his men that he not only ordered his own decapitation, but also made said decapitated head into a setpiece so that he could glare disapprovingly at his men post-mortem. His rotting head is STILL more capable of reaching the aforementioned levels of enlightenment than you.

            Absolute chads holy ****

Imagine if blackflame prelates existed... instead of red their garments would be grey and instead of dark iron their gauntlets, boots and helmet would be made from a more gold-ish metal

Normally he opens by throwing fire, so running up to him the fire will usually go over your head, then spamming Prayerful Strike will stun him after two hits. I was killing him in three Prayerful Strikes.

These dudes are such chads. The helmet description says that the only way the cauldron ignites is when their faith is at its zenith. I have 99 faith and my hat doesn’t light on fire. These guys have more faith than even perceivable by a mere tarnished runt.

First time I saw one of these guys was at Fort Laiedd, when he was just standing with his back facing me as I entered the fort. For a brief second, I chuckled to myself because of the shape of the armor. Then he turned around and anime walked towards me with a colossal hammer and throwing fire at me, and I was terrified.

                    10/10 enemy, very intimidating

Kinda surprised they aren't fully functional bosses. They could have replaced at least one or two of the many repeating boss encounters

The "Elden ring fire prelate drops" table has the crozier hammer dropping from the prelate at fort Laiedd as a guaranteed drop. But just above the item drop table it says the prelate in giant conquering hero's grave can drop it as well. Can anyone attest to the accuracy of that ?

                        • Anonymous

Just fought the one in Fort Laiedd, and rotten breath deleted him in about three seconds on a faith caster build.

Seems like the strat for these chonky boys is to be patient and wait for openings, or alternatively hit them with something powerful if they haven't noticed you yet.

The prelate in mountainstop of the giants has dropped its armour and helm. I really want to try that thorn whip, I see a lot of farming in the not too distant future.

                              • Would gelmir’s fury be a good spell to use on a fire Prelate cosplay? Haven’t used it but it looks like it might be similar to the fireball eruption attack these guys do?

Where are these drop rates from? I swear I feel like they must be higher for this particular enemy, pretty much every time I kill one it drops a piece of armor

                                  • Anonymous

if you want to farm the thorn whip a bit easier shoot the fire prelate with a bow and lure him to the entrance doors at the giants mountain top catacombs; he shouldn't be able to get in and you can chip him away safely with scarlet rot or any other projectiles.

There's no way the helmet's drop probability is 5% I've tried with all 3 of them and O've got all the pieces several times except for the helmet. Not even once.

Strategy I used: 1) learn their four to five attacks, 2) bludgeon them when they are not bludgeoning me. Hope this helps

In the first gameplay trailer we got, this guy was a mini-boss in the Academy, wonder why they changed that and decided to have that Red Wolf in its place.

Another one in the Mountaintops of the Giants, right before the long, narrow stone bridge. This one also wields a Thorn Whip instead of an Inferno Crozier.

He drops his full armour set and they are quite heavy. About every other time I killed him he dropped something

                                                Strategy:
Lure him out of the arena behind the Fortress and fight him from Horseback!
Bait his attacks and use his long recovery windows to charge in and attack him!
If he begins his fire Charge, JUMP ONTO HIGHER GROUND! Stops the Charge!
Beat Him LV 27 and got THE SLEDGY!!!
                                                (Can't wield it yet tough!)
