Giant Dragonfly is a Wildlife Creature in Elden Ring. These insects are hostile, and are often seen as a nuisance, due to their erratic flight pattern and rather weak attacks.
Giant Dragonfly Location in Elden Ring
Where to Find Giant Dragonflies:
- Players can encounter Great Dragonflies in the humid Agheel Lake regions of Limgrave, near the Dragon-Burnt Ruins. They are also found near small bodies of water.
- Great Dragonflies can also be found in the Swamp of Aeonia in Caelid. These variants are much larger than most.
Elden Ring Giant Dragonfly Combat Information
- Health: 17 HP
- Poise: 0
ABSORPTIONS
- Phy (Standard): -40
- Phy (Slash): -10
- Phy (Strike): -40
- Phy (Pierce): -40
The absorption numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if an absorption is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% is absorbed. Bigger number = less damage. An absorption of 100 means no damage goes through, and a resistance of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.
RESISTANCES
Poison: 84 *
Scarlet Rot: 84 *
Hemorrhage: 63
Frostbite: 20
Sleep: 63
* Giant Dragonfly in West Aeonia Swamp (Caelid) are immune to Poison and Scarlet Rot.
The resistance numbers are the buildup amount to trigger it. For example, if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of whatever aux buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs.

Elden Ring Great Dragonfly Notes & Tips
- These creatures can be very annoying due to their fast speed. Magic will often miss them. Using a Shortbow can help immensely.
- They tend to start circling the player once they have been locked onto. Prepare to fire your bow, then quickly lock on and fire to prevent them from moving away.
- The ones around the Swamp of Aeonia are significantly larger than others.
- There are two variants, one that is grey and has smaller jaws, and a green variant with larger mandibles
- Their appearance suggests that they are based on Dobsonflies, an insect that are common around wetlands. Males have much larger jaws, but only females are known to bite.

I haven't hated an enemy this much since I first encountered cliffracers.

I've developed a dislike for these f**kers bordering on the psychotic. I farm the gold fireflies from the pond near the tower of return and there are three of them and all three do my f**king head in.

Do you know if these ones have madness buildup? cuase they are driving me crazy

"...they often attack when their targets are preoccupied with other dangers."
These things know when they're locked onto, and they will circle you like manic Tinkerbells for as long as it takes for you to decide being a meat Beyblade isn't worth it. Once they start their evasion, they don't stop until you unlock. I've tried it dozens of times - once you unlock, they settle back down and either zip at you or buzz off, but if you get stubborn and maintain lock, they'll circle you until your feet fall off. UNLOCK, keep them in your field of vision if you can, then quickly lock and throw. if you have fan daggers you can spare, all the better; their evasion sometimes fails to work against fan daggers, they'll zig right into a secondary blade.

If you’re struggling to hit these things, try Beast roar ash of war. It works great.

wait for it to move, then fire your magic pebble at the end of its flight pattern to always hit it. lol

They give me a migraine whenever I accidentally lock onto them and they rotate my camera like crazy

If you have to go through an area with these just keep some bone throwing knives or something similar to chuck at them

These type of enemies, as far as i know and try by myself, rarely attack you if you stand still near them. More than once i stayed right next to 5-6 of them and if you dont attack them and stay still they only attack you once in a while. The green ones also do the same.

These are based off of male dobsonflies, which aren't dragonflies (or flies). Males have those same gigantic mandibles but are harmless as their mandibles are too large to move properly. Females have smaller mandibles, but they can actually use them and will give a painful bite if you bother them. Super cool, but uncommon insects and a great indicator of good water quality.

From a realistic insect anatomy POV, the model used is actually a dobsonfly, not a dragonfly

Holy ****. Using a torch in off hand with LB pressed draws them in. Just found this out. They won’t even attack.

I may be wrong about this, but I got the impression they avoided engaging me if I was locked onto them, so I would just unlock and wait for them to get close.

They need to remove their constant circling, having to keep eyes on them locked on while circling 25 times is bloody annoying and makes folks motion sick as hell
