Preceptor Miriam is a enemy Invader in Elden Ring. Preceptor Miriam can be found inside Carian Study Hall. They wear a large wide-brimmed hat and use a staff to cast many types of sorceries at their enemies.
One of the magic preceptors that served the Carian royals
Elden Ring Preceptor Miriam Locations
Where to Find Preceptor Miriam:
- Up the stairs once inside the Carian Study Hall [Elden Ring Map here]
- She can be encountered again in the secret area of Carian Study Hall, after using the Carian Inverted Statue and proceeding through the first window.
Preceptor Miriam Notes & Tips
- Preceptor Miriam teleports further up the tower as she takes damage. The summons that accompany Miriam can be triggered early by running past where she first appears and up the tower. This allows you to take them out without much risk and makes confronting Miriam much safer.
- Miriam will not cast spells nor teleport away from you if you are standing in the small room at the top of the second elevator. Using a ranged weapon from this position will trivialise this section of the encounter.
- She can be thrown out using the Ash of War Stamp (Upward Cut) near the railings. The fall will kill her instantly.
- Preceptor Miriam is extremely susceptible to Glintstone Blade.
- At the beginning when she first appears, charge up as many as you can and they will hit her and force her to teleport to zone two.
- Go up and get her to spawn a second time and you can use the corner of the wall before the bridge to block her shots while firing at her when she gets close since Glintstone Blade fires over the railing. There is a chance she won't come close enough to hit her.
- The same can be done at the top level. She will generally attempt to maintain a safe distance from you, but within range of your spell. The circular railing will create a barrier to block her shots and let you fire over the top at her with Glintstone Blade.
- Phase two and three should be doable in a similar fashion with any ranged weapon that can hit her at that distance. While slightly more risky, you can strafe out from behind the barrier and fire between her spells as they have long casting periods or short range.
- Fight with Miriam can be easily won by forcing her to come down to the floor with the Study Hall Entrance site of grace, and then riding up with the elevator. While trying to attack the player, she should then fall into the elevator's hole.
- The second iteration of Miriam is very vulnerable to sorcery, particularly Loretta's Greatbow. Due to the elevation advantage against her in most of the inverted fight, you fire at her and she will hit the platform while you strike her with relative impunity. Other spells or ranged weapons will likely work, too.

Cannon of Haima. Outside of where you first find her in the inverted tower, there is always a spot where you can stand where she can't hit you, but you can charge a cannon up and hit her.

didn't know she was a struggle for so many on my first play through sure she was annoying but she wasn't that hard.

dear intelligence builds!!! carian slicer is the answer!!!!!

She jumped off and killed herself first time i was here, didnt understand she was a boss.

Sometimes I have to run 20 laps until it finally decides not to instantly teleport away without any animation whatsoever in the middle of a spell charging. Thing is, this wasn't like this on my first playthrough in early June. The NPC teleported after a few damage, but not just insta-spawned 50 meters away. Meaning, it's glitched. So FromSoftware, was it really that important to buff Moonveil again instead of fixing this thing?
- Anonymous
Once i fought her and instead of Preceptor Miriam, her name was changed to Preceptor Seluvis, and her attire became blue (like a spirit summon). Has that happened to anyone else?

Inverted Tower variation is the true end boss of Elden Ring.

As an unga bunga (Great Hammer build), I tried to faceroll her and died several times. I even tried throwing arrows at her but she'd dodge away from them most of the time. So, I took the advice of the NOTES & TIPS above, and ranged her to death with Great Glintstone Shard. I put on all the Int gear and talismans I had, threw on a staff, and switched all my flasks to Cerulian Tears. As long as you're careful and back up when she's firing arrows at you, you'll kill her in no time.
- Anonymous
I cheesed her so hard. At the top of the second elevator, I stayed by the wall out of her vision and she stopped attacking and started walking towards me. A quick unsheathe and a few strikes were enough.
- Anonymous
Haven't seen it mentioned yet so I'll drop my technique for killing her.
Ascend the tower as you would, killing the summons and doing enough damage that she teleports away. Continue this until the final stage where she just casts and teleports. Get close to that ladder so she teleports away again and then climb the ladder to the rafters. She stops attacking, allowing you to drop attack her. When i did this, she didn't teleport away again allowing me to finish her off

Small correction, Miriam isn't an invader, she's an actual hostile NPC. Similar to Moongrum in Raya Lucaria academy. There has to be a warning sign when you get invaded and invaders tend to be red. These guys simply approach you once spotted.

This is listed as a npc invader, which is false. Its a named npc. Invaders are red

wait until you get the carian inverted statue then begin the fight with her. run back to the table and place it. when the hall inverts she dies. no chasing.
- Anonymous
Frenzied Burst helps immensely in this fight, she can't dodge the frenzied burst shot and will always get hit by it. I also found that she doesn't teleport when she reach her 3rd and final position in the tower if we keep hitting her with this incantation (when we didn't used the inverted statue). Also, Carian Retaliation helps too when closing in the distance after you parry her magic greatbow spell.

In regular Carian, after she killed me twice, I decided to just run past her and went all the way up the beams.
From there I assaulted her with the rock sling, until suddenly she stopped attacking. Couldn't find her.
Then suddenly I saw her standing like a lifeless puppet on the 2nd floor. Let's backstab, why not. Couple more hits when she was getting up and job done.
Haha.

I killed each of her summons, then I was able to get to here, hit her with my claymore a few times and then she teleported. Rinse and repeat. Top level keep on smashing her with my claymore until dead.
Serpent Arrows can poison her, can confirm on Inverted Tower encounter

Someone recommends using kukri to kill her quickly and easily, this does not work unless it requires throwing them from a certain spot, she rolls away as soon as you throw one, another says to make her flinch with a throwing dart before she can get off a cast of loretta's greatbow but this isn't as easy as it sounds either.
What just worked for me though was 'rain of arrows' AoW and bleed arrows. Using 'arrow's sting' and 'arrow's reach' talismans she can be killed without too much trouble. The only tricky part is keeping her target locked long enough for the cluster of arrows to hit her. But 'rain of arrows' only uses one from your inventory for every shot, so its not expensive if it misses her now and then.

I fought her both in the reg and secret (inverted) and she is supposed to drop the lucidity spell but I somehow didn’t get it?

An NPC named Miriam in an inverted area....nice homage to Castlevania stuff (or at least it is a coincidence)
I found her one of the most irritating enemies I've yet faced. Thankfully she just straight up fell off the bridge in the inverted study hall before I'd even gotten near her.
- Anonymous
she will have teleport glitch on the top floor if you hit her from the elevator area with great bow. She will keep teleporting back and forth without attacking and you just need to make sure you have a good long range aim to walking target
- Anonymous
Such an easy fight if you just craft or buy some rot arrows. She never dodge when casting and scarlet rot will get rid of like 80% of her hp. No hassle for chasing her as melee player.

Nice work fromsoft. What a challenging fight. I've had so much fun chasing non-stop teleporting and magic spamming trashmob that takes half of my hp bar with a single hit. Top notch enemy design right here. Hats down!
- Anonymous
Also seems like there's no concept of mana for mobs in this game. Looks like only player needs mana to use magic huh.
- Anonymous
She will stop attacking if you climb the ladder to the beam and will try to climb. If you jump on her before she gets on the ladder she won't teleport.

seluvis, miriam... what's with preceptors and being horrible, horrible, evil people

her magic arrow is awesome and will blow you up. Unlike advice here, she didn't care what so ever for my glintblades and is always behind 9000 ghosts that will interfere with your aim. Imo just rush her and roll through the arrows.

Forget Magic Downpour and Lucidity, I want the Instant Teleport While Doing Other Things Too spell.
- Anonymous
A simple bone dart or any other kind of throwing knife will cause her to flinch, cancelling her magic greatbow's channeling.

In the normal Carian Study Hall you can jump into a little doorway while on the first elevator ride.
From there if you sprint jump as far in as possible into your watery death, the Lucidity-spell popup will show up shortly after.
That way you don't have to deal with her in the inverted version of Carian Study Hall later.
Confirmed working as of 1.04.

new players: "this fight is bs for melee builds"
kukri: "am I a joke to you?"

She deals a lot of damage with her greatbow spell and can soak up a lot of damage, but she can be staggered VERY easily. Even a tiny bit of damage can interrupt her rather long cast. If you manage to close in to her (which, in the first phase of the non-inverted version, you can do by just sprinting up the staircase before she spawns) or lure her close, you can easily drain her health with a chain of fast melee attacks and she can't do anything about it. In the inverted version, you can chain ranged attacks at her as the balcony you stand on gives you great cover against her ranged atacks. She can't dodge while she casts her greatbow and, in my case at least, she often immediately tried to re-cast her spell rather than panic rolling if you interrupt her.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I managed by luring her close and engaging her at melee range. Melee attacks interrupt her arrow spamming. Repeat until dead.
- Anonymous
In the inverted version, I hugged the wall to the left of the bridge, started to spam glintblade and apparently she jumped to her death. RIP
After getting her down to like 1/4 of her health, you can just spam bleed arrows and poof she's gone.
- Anonymous
She charged up her bow, jumpscare teleported then 1 hit me. In the true omae wa mou shinderu fashion.
- Anonymous
I waited by the elevator hidden and she came looking for me so I smacked her to death on the top floor. I was getting so angry trying to chase her around.
- Anonymous
My first playthrough, I actually rank her as one of the hardest encounters in the game. She took WAY more effort than she should've as an invader type enemy. Easily stands up with the last run of bosses, and honestly outclasses Gideon by a great deal.
- Anonymous
On the top floor, I ended up baiting her back to the elevator and ambushing her. Worked surprisingly well rather than chasing her as she teleports around the area.
- Anonymous
Guys I think shes a bit underpowered, she needs A Call Beyond when you actually get close to her
- Anonymous
got her to jump off the platform by spamming greatbow right before she could
- Anonymous
As an "invader" type enemy, she is susceptible to madness. Can be very easily taken out by ducking in and out of cover while using Frenzied Burst.
- Anonymous
She's very annoying and tanky, but doable even without cheese. While she has good defense and high HP, she has low poise, thus you can interrupt her Greatbow by throwing darts or knives at her while she's casting. Take out the mobs and keep putting pressure on her while staggering her from casting and she should go down in no time

I didn' have a huge problem with Miriam myself, but I can see why folks would have an issue. If I could fix the fight, I'd make it so she can only teleport every 10 seconds in phase four instead of yeeting left, right, and center like a spastic ape

Seems like people either easily forget that poison arrows are a thing or they’re just beating their heads on a wall for no good reason.
This fight is even more simple with a serpent bow+serpent arrows. Takes two or maybe three hits to procure and just wait til she dies.

Primal Glintstone Blade is a talisman. How does that help here? There is no Glintstone Blade. Someone said you mean Magic Glintblade? That's the default spell for prisoner and it's slow and weak. Who wrote this?

*Melee build*
Really had a hard time with this boss. She keeps teleporting at the last phase and can't chase her. Tried killing all the spirit enemies starting from above and going back to her. I don't know why but finally she stops teleporting when at the top floor and defeated her.

I punched this dastard all the way to the first elevator, and then when we both got down I went back up and she died. Melee bros have to innovate.
- Anonymous
This enemy is a kilometric ton of bullshit. She is coward, overwhelming and full ranged. She just uses Loretta Greatbow, Magic Downpour and Phalanx of Glintblades. Nothing else!

protip if a sorcerer build: use eternal darkness. makes this so much less painful.
- Anonymous
Pure melee build here, had problems with the inverted version but killed her on the third try. I focused on her summons when she was on the top floor, and when all but one were dead she finally stopped teleporting and I finished her off. I don't know if it was an AI fluke but she was literally tp'ing nonstop until I started killing summons, maybe her ability is tied to them in some way. I didn't know about the jumping attack from the rafters before I fought her
Apparently this enemy is meant to be fought during Ranni's questline, as when you attempt to fight it while in Liurnia during a regular playthrough, it'll be noticeable that she is VERY overtuned, and you'll probable resort to cheesing her somehow.

I can’t breathe, I’m waiting for the exhale
Toss my pain with my wishes in a wishing well
Still no luck, but oh, well
I still try even though I know I’m gon’ fail
Stress on my shoulders like a anvil
Perky got me itching like a anthill
Drugs killing me softly, Lauryn Hill
Sometimes I don’t know how to feel

For melee, the answer is the ladder. Would have been a good gimmick fight if there was maybe one or two more ladders on that upper floor. She stops firing as soon as you start walking on that ledge, like she lost sight of you.
- Anonymous
in the noniverted version, i killed her before she reached the second area, and she didnt drop anything. is this intended?
- Anonymous
Rock sling worked better than Lorettas imo, for faster casting.

So, in the non-inverted version of this fight, I figured out a pretty good cheese-method. From the moment she first teleports in, run straight back to the elevator. After goading her towards it a bit, take the elevator back down. Stay near the downed elevator and she will start trying to shoot you through the ground, but eventually fall to the same level with you. Now, the trick is to goad her back off the elevator, run around and take it back up. Go ahead and run off the elevator to the banister on the other side of the room. It might take about a minute or so but she will fall through the elevator hole and die. Reproduced this twice, so definitely wasn't a rare fluke in the AI, it's definitely repeatable.

On the last level after clearing out adds, I just crouched behind something until she lost aggro and started casually walking my way. Waited for her to enter melee range and made my attack. She stopped teleporting away and I just pummeled her to death at that point.

After the elevator where she just always teleports from you, what I did as a melee player was run back to the elevator. She'll walk close, but then lose aggro on you and start walking back. From there I was able to sneak attack backstab her. It looked a little wonky as she still teleported but the hit landed even though she was a mile away. Did the same thing right after and then she just started melee'ing me might be a bug but definitely wait and hide by the elevator then sneak attack was the way to go for me.

Very weak to poison. Vs inverted, used serpent bow +6 with poisonbone arrows (fletched). First mighty shot made poisoned. Used two more mighty shot storming bone arrows before I saw how fast she was taking damage. Took two arrows to reapply after that resolved, but that was enough to kill her.
- Anonymous
Already killed them before inverting tower, then i invert tower hours later and they are alive again, what kinda bs is this
- Anonymous
This enemy is bullshit and deals far too much damage for how little damage she receives.
- Anonymous
She just… fell and died during the inverted encounter. Made my life a lot easier.
- Anonymous
I ended up clearing out all the distractions and had a shootout with her on the top floor using the hand ballista, cannon vs. magic cannon. Probably not the optimal strategy, but before that I was literally bringing a hammer to a gunfight.
- Anonymous
Just managed to beat her in the upside-down version, on a pure melee build (after the worst time of my life in this game). Even actual ass bosses feel better and less frustrating than this, in my opinion. Here's how I did it:
- Used Magic Fortification incantation + Opaline Bubbletear mixed physick
- First, lure the hands by jumping onto their height but carefully retreating back onto the ledge (try not to fall). Then kill them, of course. The wall mostly blocks Miriam's abilities during this.
- Do the same for the spectral knight. He might turn around once on your side of the ledge but maintain his aggro and kill him
- Just hit Miriam as much as possible till she teleports. Once she teleports, she'll slowly move up towards you. From here finish her off by throwing Kukri knives. They land right when she stands still before she fires, dodge as soon as you throw a knife.
Good luck! Hopefully it won't take you an hour, like it did for me.

Only found her after flipping the place. Didn't receive the first sorcery... :(
- Anonymous
Worth noting that you get Magic Downpour from her first encounter and Lucidity from the second
- Anonymous
Pretty funny how many people don't know that Miriam is a woman's name
- Anonymous
You can run past her initial spawn point, quit the game from the menu, and then reload and she won't be spawned anymore.

Rot makes this fight farely easy, use a weapon like the antispur rapier or some other decent rot weapon to quickly apply it, if shes on the mid level bridge after her first teleport, the rot should kill her, letting you casually walk up the rest of the way, as she still teleports higher and higher without fighting you.
- Anonymous
Is this npc broke for anyone else? I get that shes supposed to teleport around when her health hits certain thresholds, but now shes teleporting when I even get close to her at the top of the study hall and even teleporting in the middle of attacking and casting spells
- Anonymous
Bleed works well. I killed her at about level 45 with +8 claws which I enchanted with the standard magic sorcery.
Wow, I made fall from the elevator but she somehow didn't die and just teleported further back into the Study Hall.
- Anonymous
can you even win with a melee build? all they do is teleport away and spam arrows
- Anonymous
Incredibly obnoxious. Ran into her at about lv. 50 and her stupid bow spell pretty much one-shots me. I think I might be able to beat her in an isolated setting, that is without all of the summons and her teleporty nonsense, but from the looks of it I'm just gonna have to run and come back much, much later.
- Anonymous
Easy mode with Night Maiden's Mist spell, just stay behind cover and push her to the 3rd phase in the round library, go cast the charged cloud where she was previously standing and quickly step back a bit. She will teleport one section back to be closer to you... straight into your deadly cloud.
Miriam? More like Mir-I-am on the verge of ending it all if you keep teleporting away ajAjsjdj@+#$+
