Elden Ring Chief Guardian Arghanthy Combat Information

  • Health: 7682 HP
  • Poise: 100

ABSORPTIONS

The absorption numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if an absorption is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% is absorbed. Bigger number = less damage. An absorption of 100 means no damage goes through, and a resistance of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.

RESISTANCES

The resistance numbers are the buildup amount to trigger it. For example, if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of whatever aux buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs.

Chief Guardian Arghanthy Notes & Tips

  • She is a particularly strong flame caster. Using Fire Resistance equipment and consumables can help. She tends to either rush the player or defend with her shield. Her shield's skill can easily one-shot unaware players even with high Fire Damage Negation.
  • Uses the incantations Catch Flame, Burn, O Flame, and Surge, O Flame. She will also use the Greatshield’s skill to fire a powerful exploding fireball.
    1. Catch Flame is a quick burst of flame, used when rushing the player. She will usually use this when within melee range.
    2. Burn O Flame is a strong move that releases several pillars of flame around her, but leaves them stationary while casting it.
    3. Surge O Flame is a flaming stream that she uses to keep the player at a distance. It is her weakest spell, and can easily by tanked through.
  • Can be made to drop down, making her easily killed with range from above.

2 tries: 1st she spammed catch flame on me 4 times in 1 second, i died like a puppy, came back and spammed taker's flames on her till she died like dog.

      • Anonymous

lore wise the reason she does so much damage is purely out of spite because she has to have the most ungodly ugly npc face i've ever seen

and broken balancing, but mostly the face

Every time I think Elden Ring has the worst enemies in all the Souls games, I find a new one that I hate even more. The enemy design of this game is the worst its ever been. Not hard, but annoying and not fun.

          • I tried informing her of the sorry state of repair her fort was in. Sadly, she had an unfortunate fall when she came with me to inspect the decrepit scaffold just a little ways from patrol route. A true tragedy. A happy home is a safe home folks.

            • Anonymous

If you're having trouble beating her just get her to aggro you and walk off the stairs you came from. There's a stone platform below that you can land on top of and you will only take a bit of fall damage. She should follow you and die just like that.

              • Anonymous

If you are having trouble with this unbalanced "boss" try using a misericorde lvled up a few times with the kick ash of war to shield break him when he blocks to get a critical over & over till they're dead.

                  Steal her look:
                  - Head: Ruler's Mask
                  - Chest: Marais Robe
                  - Arms: Bloodsoaked Manchettes
                  - Legs: Consort's Trousers

If anyone's struggling with the dogs, I held the Beast-Repellent Torch in my left hand & fought the boss with my sword. The dogs didn't bother me

                    • just hit her with lighting as she comes towards you. she wont get a chance because of its stagger to cast on you even if she gets within range.. yes kill dogs first..

                      • Anonymous

If you can manage to get the dogs first, this miniboss is about on the same level as a Fire Prelate. That Shield fireball attack though is ridiculous.
50 Vigor, Fireproof Liver, Shield up? Doesn’t matter. Dodge or you’re at less than a quarter HP in one hit.

This boss isn't the problem. The two dogs that you may aggro while fighting her are the real mother****ers in this fight.

The 2nd photo is very obviously of the Marais dude outside shaded castle that drops antspur rapier, how do you even manage a mixup like that? Oh they have the same robe, and literally nothing else in common, I see how you mixed em up now....

                            • Anonymous

Man her fire attack kills me in one hit even though I'm level 100+ with my shield up. I did a cheese kill unintentionally... I first ran in and killed the dogs in the alcove to the left and then just ran down the stairs along the walkway and jumped down. My plan was to just keep going back and hitting her at range and running away. Turns out she followed me and fell off the cliff. Cheezy, but I'll take it the win ;-)

This bastard made me so damn mad, why in the everloving **** does some dude in robes flicking a little gust of fire kill you in 2-3 hits at 50 vigor? not to mention said attack is incredibly fast and he cast it three times in a row in a millisecond while spamming it constantly everytime you get near him? Oh! and don't forget he's super tanky too because fromsoft being the sadistic fiends that they are clearly thought that he wasn't cancerous enough as it is, This bastard can just go eat a giant bag of ****s. most bs npc enemy by far imo.

I understand this enemy can cast spells. Now while laying on their back from Bolt of Gransax they can't. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
                                  Just saying...

                                  • Fairly easy bossfight; lure them (comments have confused me so I'll avoid specificity) out to the wooden walkway and cast Rejection when it looks like it'll knock them off the edge. They'll try to return to the arena but slip and fall off the cliff, giving you the win.

Fingerprint Stone Shield +10 with Shield Crash... And he's dead in two hits and staggered/maddened in the same go

                                      • Anonymous

Found this by accident: If you are on the wooden stairs that lead up to his area you can drop down to the left of them onto a small ledge on the wall and from there on down to the ground next to the garrison. If you aggroed him before that, he can follow you down there and you can fight him on horseback (since you are not in the garrison anymore). Makes this much easier if you have ranged options to fight him. Be aware though, if you try to lure him away while being next to the garrison there seems to be a small area where you get dismounted again (maybe it still counts as the interior of the garrison?). Simply run past that area and saddle back up if this happens.

I accidentally found and easy way. I saw the guy coming. I started to go backwards to the ledge and fall down the side of the wall. Then i started to go circle back the tower and then I just the xp and the shield as he fell down.

iam very impressed by all the described problems ppl have with him. i barely noticed him as a true "boss" mob. maybe overleveled (but i just did all the game has offered me so far without farming detours whatsoever) but he did cast flamesurge once and then got staggered till death by my Knights Cavalary Helebard +21 (2handed), dunno i was very underwhelmed by this little castle to conquere, but the book is nice - might add: i killed the dogs beforehand and wasn't even aware of him being there as he blends in the scenery quite strong.

He was not wearing Ruler's Robe. From the look of it, it seems that he's wearing Marais Robe. https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Marais+Robe
I wonder the connection he has with House Marais.

this guy isn't that hard, the problem is not getting one shotted by the bugged dogs that instantly do 11k dmg

                                                • Anonymous

Little tip, you will see a room at the top of the stairs leading to him, it has two dogs in it. Online you'll probably see a message telling you about it too. In my experience, killing these dogs will guarantee this fire d***head spots you and rushes you. If you are still in that room it's a death sentence with his magic spamming. TBH the first time I got up there I didn't even notice he was patrolling because he kind of blends into the scenery and I was worried about the dogs. So just be aware you have to act fast once s*** pops off. Also worth noting the dogs are in a distracted state, so they may not even aggro if you engage the guardian far enough away. I just killed the dogs and immediately rushed him, because he was already rushing me. At least that way I wasn't trapped. As a player sized human he can be stunlocked really easily, or even just flat out kicked off the side of the tower.

                                                  • Anonymous

The shield's flame ball is absolutely brutal. As in, capable of one-shotting you with 1400hp even with multiple fire-production items equipped.

                                                    • Anonymous

If you approach with stealth you can get a free backstab without much trouble. Then I was able to stagger him with Wild Strikes on a heavy bleed hammer so he never had the chance to do anything. I didn't even know he could cast spells.

                                                      • Anonymous

This guy's a real mother****er with the damage on his flame spells. The stagger on his flame stream is wicked, too. He also mixes up on his shield's ash of war, where he'll start charging it, then cancel out. Best bet, imo, is to strike hard with something heavy to stagger him, take another hit or two if you think you'll combo, then gtfo to regen stamina and avoid his counter. His Catch Flame/ O'Flame (can't tell which, don't use them) hits like a truck, too, and he chain casts it, so dodge out if you eat one, else you're eating 3 in rapid succession. Nearly 100-0 me with 45 vigor (via Soreseal) plus firedrake +1 and Golden Vow.

Shield has meme potential and maybe some PVE utility. Not exactly a must-have.

Lol, this guy does not have good pathing AI.
He fell off the wooden side path to him and then proceeded to fall off a cliff to his death.

                                                          • Anonymous

Hard to find: Enter the garrison, go up the ladder on the left - kill the two guardian guys on that level. Roll into the crates to reveal a broken wall, from which you can see a platform to jump onto. Following this path will take you to some stairs - before you head right at the top, kill the two dogs within the tower on the left as they will interrupt your fight. Pre-summon your ashes, preferably something aggressive or the mimic because you definitely do not want to waste time sitting around ringing bells when he runs at you.

The boss itself: Not really a "boss" in terms of challenge or hp, just a more difficult mob (although I may have just been overlevelled) - his offensive power is obscene if you let him get it off. Fortunately, I found he was easily interrupted and staggered on every single hit of my weapon - so go aggressive and definitely do not bother shielding - he will stagger and kill you with flame spells through your entire hp bar with ease. Just rush him down and you won't even notice that ridiculous damage that he has.
