Battlemage is a mage Enemy in Elden Ring. They are mage enemies that wield a magic staff and fire ranged attacks.
The spirit of a particular Battlemage, Hugues, can be summoned for aid in battle by using the Battlemage Hugues Ashes.
Whenever war broke out and the academy sealed its gates, only Haima's scholars dared venture outside. Seclusion is no way to foster discovery; it is only a convenient form of escape.
Scholars of the Haima Conspectus sought the power to quell conflict, and to this end studied the sorceries of cannon fire and the gavel.

I died to those two bastards before Loretta more times than to some bosses, they can go **** themselves hard

I like that since they are supposed to quell conflict, they chose to instill fear in others while also focusing on very destructive attacks
This is probably to show their enemies that they have the power to show that they are peaceful, and not harmless
- Anonymous
repeated casts of the magma shot spell stagger locks them, good for farming for the stone club
- Anonymous
Lion Claw on a hammer will stagger this guy in 2 hits. Then a sweet crit and repeat 200x to get the stone club

Give us a headbutt ash of war for staves, From! You know it's the right thing to do!!!

“Scholars of the Haima Conspectus sought the power to quell conflict”
Oh cool did they like take a course in effective communication and cultural sensitivity at the Academy? …No? What do you meam they learned to make magic cannon and gavel weapons????

For the Haligtree ones, Bolt of Gransax knocks them right off the bridges from the right angle
- Anonymous
These enemies aren't too bad until you're both on a bridge and they do the gavel 8 times in a row.

now, there may be some rooms behind secret walls that i still have yet to find, but i'm fairly certain that you don't encounter these guys in Raya Lucaria crystal tunnel (but do please inform me of where they are if i'm wrong)

Ok this is how you beat them: they have different set of skills depending on your range. If you are far, he will fire cometshards and cannon of haima. During cometshards, just run to the side or diagonally forward. Cannon - run straight on him, it misses point-blank. Now when you are close, his moveset changes into fast club attacks and fairly slow gavel spell. Both are ultra punishable. So your strat is to have some mid-range poke skill and to bait melee range attacks. Don't try to punish his range attacks, that's how you die to club to the face.

My fellow mages, you don’t need to respec to beat them. Just put on some light armour (since they usually have high magic resist) and equip the Dark Moon Greatsword our beloved Ranni gave us, two hand it and go to town. You will almost always stagger them before they can land a hit and if you landed a blade beam before getting close you’ll inflict Frostbite and destroy them instantly. Happy hunting

The Haligtree mages can be blasted off the bridges if you have the blasphemous blade.

If the ones in the Haligtree are giving you a lot of trouble, use sleep pots, they take a full nap and can even be hit with a critical while they are lying down.

Somebody please update this page, the Battlemage DOES NOT show up at the Raya Lucaria Academy, nor at the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel.

The ones at Haligtree right before Loretta are practically bosses in their own right. Crazy poise for a scarecrow in a robe. Crazy damage resistance and health pool for a scarecrow in a robe. And RIDICULOUS damage, both from the magic and the club.

There is one battlemage standing at the crest of a small hill in the Altus Plateau, and ONLY this particular mage will drop the full set upon defeat. This hill is dead-ahead of you after taking the sending gate at the Forest-Spanning Greatbridge grace.

Quicktip, there's a lift to the left of the entrance to Loretta's boss fight. Run past the 2 mages to get to the lift, and use the grace there. It should be easier to get to the boss room without using up flasks, or having to play chicken on the bridges.

They take around 50% less damage when shot in the head but will still do the headshot stagger animation
- Anonymous
unstaggerable, has a **** ton of health for no reason, and has infinite fp to spam spells. why?

For the two in Haligtree, Ekzyke's decay from the saftey of the right-side chest-high wall where the elevator comes down. Avoids most of the shots, and just have to roll for haima's cannon when it happens. Screw these two. They were the source of much frustration.

the uberchad mage, will chain cast cannon of haima on yo ass

Cant belief one of the hardest enemies is Dumbledore wannabe

If you have decent strength the wave of destruction skill with the ruins greatsword staggers them every time and you can hit em again before they recover.
If you're having trouble (or farming at low levels like me) you can actually stagger these things by using a bleed weapon such as Reduvia. The fact that they resist the buildup a bit works in your favor because it'll proc while they're casting that bullshit hammer spell, which interrupts it outright. Then you can just finish them off.
- Anonymous
The hammer is the worst. The timing on the roll is really precise or you get hit by the aoe even if the hammer misses you. I was using a Reduvia and eventually figured out how to time the bleed proc to interrupt that cast. Lord knows my dagger-wielding ass wasn't gonna break through the insane poise these things have.

Colossal weapons stagger these guys with each hit. I used the royal greatsword with the special ability as well and works like a charm

A mage with ranged spells of nuclear proportions, melee hammers the size of a tanker, and poise and armor close to that of a crucible knights, while wearing cloth. All in a tight space. Fun fight!
- Anonymous
These dudes are actual GigaWizards. Not only do they have strong spells they're super tanky, will poise through almost anything at least once, and will just bash you to death.
- Anonymous
probably the strongest enemy in the game, no joke, the hammer damage, AoE and Delay is insane, actually high poise, very damaging range spells and can cut your attacks with quick club slaps
- Anonymous
If you're dying to these in haligtree running past them, you can totally safely run past the one on the middle platform if you're using the left-side shortcut platform. But does anyone know what these guys are weak to? I only had a golden halberd at the time and wanted to try and kill them, but was getting smashed by the haligtree ones faster than I could kill them.

The one in front of Sellia Hideaway drops Somber Smithing Stone (4) as well as (3).
- Anonymous
Even with all the magic defense I can possibly muster, these guys do WAY too much damage. I had less trouble with Loretta.

the two guys in haligtree will drop SOMBER SMITHING STONE [8]

If the ones at the Haligtree give you trouble use Swarm of Flies they work wonders

As far as I can tell the one outside of Selia Hideaway only drops the stone club. Killed at high arcane with silver foot numerous times, club is all that dropped.

I hate these guys so much. You'd expect a mage to be squishy but no, these guys channel their strength from the giants and will shrug off blows from greathammers then proceed to turn you into a pancake with 2x gavel bonks or the yolo cannon. The ones in the Haligtree are particularly cancerous since there's TWO of them which can't be stealthed and they like to knock you all over the place (which by the way has hair thin bridges)
- Anonymous
Heaviest hammers cannot break their poise in 3 hits, and you need infinite stamina to juke their spells spam followed by two delayed hammers slams which are super hard to dodge and deal tons of dmg. Terrible enemy, only one worse are frozen guys from forbidden lands which constantly spam attacks and have lots of hp.

there's also one in the academy crystal cave, right before the boss fog wall
Yknow, despite the fact it's listed there's some in the crystal cave (where you get the smithing stone), I haven't seen a single one.
