Elden Ring Gameplay
The Elden Ring Wiki covers Elden Ring, developed by FromSoftware and BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc, is a fantasy action-RPG adventure set within a world created by Hidetaka Miyazaki -creator of the influential DARK SOULS video game series, and George R R Martin - author of The New York Times best-selling fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Danger and discovery lurk around every corner in FromSoftware's largest game to-date.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, President and Game Director of FromSoftware Inc known for directing critically-acclaimed games in beloved franchises including Armored Core, Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
George R R Martin is the On the New York Times bestselling author of many novels, including the acclaimed series A Song of Ice and One - A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast For Crows, and A Dance with Dragons. As a writer-producer, he has worked on The Twilight Zone, Beauty and the Beast, and various feature films and pilots that were never made.
Elden Ring Reveal
- Elden Ring has been in production since the end of the Dark Souls III DLC.
This is in contrast to Sekiro, that begun production in 2015 after Bloodborne. - Elden Ring will release on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4
- Bandai Namco is publishing and has registered the Elden Ring IP
- Elden Ring Release Date – From our observations
The release window for this game is unlikely to match FromSoftware’s traditional March-April, and is more likely to fall into Dark Souls’ September-October release. - “Elden Ring is a third-person action RPG with a fantasy setting… gameplay is not so far from Dark Souls… Elden Ring belongs to the same genre.”
- Plethora of weapons, magic and builds, and a focus on RPG elements. FromSoftware expects equipment variety to be larger than Souls in this regard.
- No main fixed protagonist, players create the characteristics and personality of their character. This leads us to believe Character Creation is a given.
- The World of Elden Ring is vast and interconnected. No longer a continuity of “levels”, players see vast landscapes in between the “dungeon-esque” areas.
- The larger world scale allows for freedom, promotes exploration, and introduces new and exciting mechanics, such as Horse Riding and Mounted Combat.
- Elden Ring is a “natural evolution of Dark Souls.” New mechanics needed by this larger world. Expect FromSoftware’s trademark challenging boss battles.
- Towns won’t be full of villagers, merchants and the like. They will be ruins, dungeons and exploration hubs. As Souls there is no vast population of NPCs.
- The NPCs the player finds are expected to be the most compelling yet in the studio’s work, thanks to Martin’s involvement in the Mythos.
George R. R. Martin has written the world’s mythos and Hidetaka Miyazaki has written the game story. - Story will be revealed through “fragments of environmental storytelling” as in previous Souls games.
- Mythos and the present moment of the player are connected and exploration will lead players to understand why things are as they are.
- There is no information at time of writing about multiplayer/online/invasions.
A NEW FANTASY WORLD

Martin, author of The New York Times best-selling fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Unravel the mysteries of the Elden Ring’s power. Encounter adversaries with profound backgrounds, characters with their own unique motivations for helping or hindering your progress, and fearsome creatures.
WORLD EXPLORATION IN THE LANDS BETWEEN
ELDEN RING features vast fantastical landscapes and shadowy, complex dungeons that are connected seamlessly. Traverse the breathtaking world on foot or on horseback, alone or online with other players, and fully immerse yourself in the grassy plains, suffocating swamps, spiraling mountains, foreboding castles and other sites of grandeur on a scale never seen before in a FromSoftware title.
GENRE-DEFINING GAMEPLAY

Charge into battle, pick off enemies one-by-one using stealth, or even call upon allies for aid. Many options are at your disposal as you decide how to approach exploration and combat. A free upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version will be available for players who purchase ELDEN RING on PlayStation 4, and SmartDelivery will be supported for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
What We Know So Far
Elden Ring Story Overview
The Lands Between
The Lands Between is the world of Elden Ring, and to those who live in The Lands Between were blessed by the Elden Ring and the "Erdtree". Those who were blessed by the Elden Ring are characterized by having a golden aura that can be seen in their eyes. However, at some point, some of those who were blessed, lost their grace, was exiled and labeled as the Tarnished. As time passed, for unknown reasons, the Elden Ring was shattered across the lands and its pieces were picked up by many of the 6 demigods, where they inherited different powers and have physically changed and twisted due to being corrupted by the power.
The Lands Between is broken into 6 distinct areas that is overseen by a demigod and features a central hub that connects all these 6 areas. According to an interview with Miyazaki, players will have total freedom as to the order they want to tackle for each area, and it is up to the player on how they want to approach it. Apart from that the hub will not be accessible at the beginning of the game, which means you will need to progress the game until you reach the hub area.
According to Hidetaka Miyazaki: "The Lands Between is supposed to invoke this feeling of something that's very mysterious and very ethereal – and we hope that when players play the game, they're going to experience that."
The Tarnished
In the official reveal trailer that was presented in E3 2021, you'll see a softly spoken, hooded woman saying "The Tarnished, will soon return." The question is, who and what is The Tarnished? Simple, The Tarnished is you, the player, you are one of the Tarnished that have been exiled upon losing their blessing that was given by the Elden Ring and the "Erdtree", a tree that hosts source and life of The Lands Between. Very much like previous Souls games, you are the chosen undead or the ashen one. You are then called back to The Lands Between, as well as the other Tarnished after the destruction of the Elden Ring to recover the shards of the Elden Ring, to make them whole once again, and to become the lord of The Lands Between.
According to Hidetaka Miyazaki in an interview: " I feel like one of the main themes of the game is how the player, the Tarnished, approaches or treats this new-found grace and this return to the land that they were once banished from, how they interpret this and the meaning. It's not just the player-character, of course, it's lots of characters in the game, who are all beckoned back and will have their own adventures and motives. We want the player to discover for themselves what that means and how they want to begin their adventure."
Combat in Elden Ring
Stealth
Stealth mechanics seem that will be present and may be useful in combination with backstab attacks, also the game may feature a night and day mechanic that may affect the stealth mechanic as well. Stealth as many are aware of, will allow the player to crouch, sneak, and hide behind tall grass to be less detected by the enemy. Stealth will play an integral mechanic in combat since you can use it to your advantage to sneak behind an enemy to instantly kill them or at least deal a large amount of damage from using a stealth attack.
Freedom in Character Build
In the trailer that was revealed in E3 2021, we see a lot of unique Skills, magical abilities, and even having a horse leaping up a cliffisde, as well as attacking while riding your Mount. These are Skills that you pick up through the player's progression and exploration. There are some cases that a player can acquire a skill through purchasing it from merchants or learning them from an NPC, but during an interview with Hidetaka Miyazaki that was featured, he stresses out that in general, skils are hidden throughout the game's world, and it is the player's responsibiility to discover these through exploration.
Elden Ring will have complete freedom when it comes to building up your character, you are basically free to combine your Skills with different weapons and equipment, and you'll learn magic as well. Skills are freely interchangeable between a large variety of weapons as per Hidetaka Miyazaki, and that there are around 100 Skills. With having less restrictions, players will have even more variations of Builds that is even richer than previous Souls games.
Day & Night Cycle
Real-time changes are featured in Elden Ring in the form of the Day and Night cycle, as well as Dynamic Weather. These features also heavily affect gameplay, combat, and the world you are exploring. For example, in cases that you are romaing at night, both players and enemies will change in terms of aggression due to a decrease in visibility, and some special enemies that only appear at night will come out.
Covenants
Covenants or Factions are a confirmed feature of Elden Ring. Elden Ring Covenants are player-chosen allegiances or pledges undertaken to specific deities or groups of NPCs. Based on previous titles, Players can expect their covenant to affect their gameplay by changing their Online interactions, or by creating new situations were users can collect special items or defeat certain enemies to rank up and obtain special rewards. Rewards are usually Magic, Weapons and Armor pieces.
New Mechanics
Elden Ring will have a large scale in terms of the world and exploration, and to go hand-in-hand with this, some new mechanics are introduced such as jumping, yes players can jump now, as well as riding on horseback (Mounts). Hidetaka Miyazaki strongly suggests that you thoroughly search and explore every section of the world to find Skills that are hidden.
There are a number of choices as well that players can approach their way of combat, some may be brave and choose to go on head-to-head, while others would rather have allies such as being able to summon the spirits of deceased enemies.
Summoning the Dead
One of the combat aspects of Elden Ring is being able to summon Spirits that can help you in battle. These spirits are usually the fallen souls of the enmies that you defeat, and summoning them will have them assist you in combat. These are your offline summons, and it is quite different to have your friends or other playres summoned to your session which is available in Online co-op play. What's interesting with multiplayer is that you can even set a password on your calling marks, so that this way you can just have your friends join your session, if you're more comfortable with that rather than having a random drop in.
Accorting to Miyazaki, "|These spirit summons, we feel like – as well as there being a large variety to them – they're a nice collectable hidden element within the game world to discover and to equip as you go. They offer a lot of different strategic options, but also the player might find that they just like a certain enemy tagging along with them, a certain summon pleases them aesthetically. So there's a lot of strategic and a lot of personal touch to these summons. And we hope that players will also enjoy discovering their own progression elements as well."
Game Difficulty
There will only be ONE difficulty in Elden Ring. The decision of FromSoftware leaning towards this feature can benefit both new and veteran players of this genre. Elden Ring features a large scale when it comes to its world and exploration, so it does make sense that it really is up to you on how you want to tackle the game, it is highly encouraged that players carefully assess the situation that lies ahead and to find different ways to deal with it. This also provides a good camaraderie within the community since everyone can share their experiences and hopefully help one another.

My first and last FS game, I won't give money to a company that caves in to the pvp community's demands about nerfs when it's a 99% pve game. I've played hundreds of games in my life, guaranteed far more than any of you. Never have I encountered such a toxic bunch of a-holes that can't shut up to the point where the majority of people playing solo are also affected by their complaints. Didn't like that FS opened up to other players? Well you're getting your game back, you're the biggest problem FS has to allowing others to embrace their games.

Incredible game 10/10, beautiful world, excellent level design & rewarding exploration. To top it all off some of the best bosses from soft have ever made and a great combat system
Edit: sorry I thought I was on the Sekiro wiki

Ds3 has more unique boss fights and enemy variety. Er is so bad in that, even ds2 can be excused for repeating bosses because Miyazaki was not involved. But for his 'masterpiece'? Lol just no.
my opinion:
Game looks good world looks good, enemies look good
Weapons are pretty cool all look nice for the world
bosses look good
but
balancing sucks
bosses are not as good as DS3
some attacks suck
a lot of poorly made duo bosses (godskin)
alot of copy pasted bosses, i get for lore reasons but come one FS.
and of course the worst thing about elden ring
NO PKCS

God, I hate this game so much... 6/10. Every day, I regret buying it a little more than I did the day before.

Oh, arise now, ye tarnished! Ye dead who yet live!
The call of long lost grace speaks to us all!
GWYN, THE LOR- i mean KING VENDRICK OF DRAN- wait no, i mean GEHRMA- no GODFRE- i mean HOARAH LOUX, CHIEFTAIN OF THE BADLANDS
THE EVER BRILLIANT FURTIVE PYGMY, SO EASILY FORGOTTEN!
FIA, THE INFERIOR WAIFU TO RANNI THE WITCH!
THE DASTARDLY DOO-DOO DEVOURER!
AND SIR GIDEON GLEEFUL, THE ALL KNOWING!
And one other whom grace would again bless. A nameless unde- tarnished of no renown.
Cross the fog, to the lands between...
To stand before the Elden Ring...

I may, or may not, end up writing a review of this game soon; a thing that nobody else gives a **** about, but it's sightly relevant to this post: I can't possibly give this game a score higher than 6/10. It's not total ****, but it's definitely not a great game; it's okay, at best.

Just a lowly tarnished waiting for the enemy to stop attacking so I can get a hit or two in.

A flawed masterpiece but still better then Skyrim and many other open world games so I approve

I can't help but feel that a lot of people who have played the previous games are disappointed in the open world. At least I know that's the case for me. And I think it's because it didn't really add anything to the experience for us. The main selling point of the open world is that you can go somewhere else if the game is too tough. But if you're already comfortable with the difficulty, that doesn't mean much to you. So while I think the open world provides greater accessibility, the core experience remains largely unchanged and is even dilluted to some extent by being embedded in an open world. To me, the best parts of the game were the legacy dungeons, but even those are cheapened by recurring enemy placements and a lack of environmental storytelling. Essentially, Elden Ring is a game that'll appeal to more people, but less to a certain subset of players.

Game was amazing. But I don't understand why 100percent of the npcs are caucasian in the year 2022 like yeah sorry I am an angry black woman get over it. We also enjoy the fantasy genre. just in case you were curious
First Soul game here, I wholeheartedly adore it, of course there are a few things that can be improved here and there. But my foremost advice to newbies getting into it for the first time: Try experiencing the game without interacting with the community, you can look things up for gameplay help but avoid listening to what others think about it until you derive your own thoughts completing the game. Thanks me later.

Compared to the breadth of games in the gaming world (non-souls player, after completion of all achievements):
Mythology and story lines- 9/10 (excellent, but some quest lines too short vs end game)
World building/immersion to world- 10/10 (amazing detail, especially architecture)
Gameplay- 8/10 (some interesting mechanics like guard counters, spirit summons, weapon arts)
Character advancement- 5/10 (resource scarcity especially upgrade mats conspicuous to create artificial difficulty)
General UI/settings- 6/10 (conspicuous absence of difficulty modes is inconsistent with gaming industry, no quest menu, other missing obvious elements)
Performance- 7/10 (some pc lags can be bad even exceeding recommended specs)
Community- 2/10 (toxic to be honest, unfriendly to those new to FS games, FS veterans pointlessly advocating nerfs to make a single player game harder for others)
Completion time- 5/10 (game was about 30% larger than needed, even veteran FS players I know were burning out and had to take a break)
Co-op- 0/10 (the fact that you can be invaded while playing with a friend is unheard of in the gaming world at large, substandard in comparison to other games)
Overall rating- 6.5/10
Would recommend to others? It's a hugely time-intensive game with huge minimum specs, and the difficulty is no joke without upgrades. Would not recommend to casual or exploration players, due to lack of difficulty settings, and will not be welcomed in to the current FS community at all. Only recommend to veteran game players who are open to challenging combat.

Overall, I would give Elden Ring a 9.25/10.
Some things need serious tweaking (like the crafting system), but it's one of the better games released in a long time.
Pulled me away from Skyrim and still does.

My first 100 hours with Elden Ring: “this is a masterpiece, 10/10, easily From’s best game.” My next 300 hours with Elden Ring: “wow… uh… deafening silence from the developer, discovery of mimic tear+ROB super-easy mode, obvious casual pandering with no BHS or exploit nerfs in PvP… 7/10, hope this isn’t the future of From’s games.”
- Anonymous
I sincerely hope that if and when FromSoft brings the DLC, that it adds more things to the existing areas and isn't just a one and done area like it has been in the previous games.

Razbuten on YouTube has a great critique of open world games (titled “the structure of open world games is weird”)
I’m glad from successfully made an open world game, and the game is bomb in a lot of ways,
but I personally look forward to less open-world type games they make in the future, the reasons for which I think are represented well in that YouTube video. Just sharing for those who may be likeminded and want to flesh out their opinions

Probably rate this 7/10, it’s not 10/10, no ****ing way. Limgrave is the most fleshed-out area in the game, which I’m pretty sure is as far as reviewers got before giving it their rating.

I have become so good at this game everything that crosses my path (be it a creature or an invading) gets obliterated. Try to fight me and you'll meet your grave.
Of the wikis I've seen, this one is one of the least obsessive about finding exact enemy stats. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it IS somewhat inconvenient for me, as I'm usually looking for those when I come here. Not sure if that's a trend with other Fextralife wikis or not.

I kind of wish elden ring didn’t get as popular as it did outside the soulsborne community. It is the entire reason i even decided to try these games I tried out ds3 a few weeks before release to see if I enjoyed souls genre and if i should get elden ring. but I honestly feel bad for people who have been in the soulsborne community longer. Because elden ring is such a popular game it lured in annoying toxic people from other fanbases over here. Now here we sit with a insufferable community that is painful to listen to.

Worst game ever made and here's why.
1. Waay too many reused bosses
2. Bad boss design
3. Lack of variety in weapons
4. Bad toxic community (RoB spammers are good examples)
5. Unbalanced PVP
6. Bad online system
7. Simply trash gameplay

I just hope FromSoft's next title will be more of an action game than an RPG again. Elden Ring has so many customization options and I feel like that ruined the balancing. I can't even blame the designers, this is probably the most common problem with open worlds. Tho I can understand that people who care more about exploration and experimentation love the game.

Elden Ring is a good game, but not overwhelmingly good. I would say 8/10 Points and here is why:
- 60fps lock
- no ultrawidescreen support
- lags / fps drops / even freezes and crashes
- big empty and disappointed world
a) Liurnia's Lake, you run for days through that big empty lake
b) Castle Redmane is a joke, FromSoftware should made it an epic Legacy Dungeon
c) Altus Plateau is again big, but has nothing special in it, either you run to Leyndell or to the Volcano Manor
d) Leyndell has a lot of houses, a big church, but... all the doors are closed and locked...
e) Mountaintops is just running around until you visit the tower with the invisible bridge, castle sol or the Fire Giant
f) A lot of copy/pasted dungeons and catacombs with the same mechanic again and again (find and pull lever --> find door --> beat copy/pasted Miniboss)
g) Dungeons and Catacombs with copy pasted layouts (Stonegrave, Mineshaft, annoying Horse Cart and very very dark Caves, that's it)
h) Stormveil Castle looks very big from the outside, but tbh when I stood before Godrick's mist wall I was like "that's it?! that was Stormveil Castle???". Stormveil Castle just contains the inner courtyard, the outer walls and the underground worm boss, that's it.
- The Roundtable is ugly and copy/pasted from Leyndell. Why not make something like Majula? Instead they created a big and an unthemed living room with a smith just randomly placed in a corridor without any blacksmith themed layout? No furnace and stuff like that. It's the worst hub they ever created in any of their games. Majula was by far the best hub, but also in their worst game lol.
- The crafting system was in 99% of all time completely useless. How many times did you actually use it?
- Too many imbalanced weapons, skills and spells. Who uses "Kick", "Shard Spiral", "Gelmir Fury", "Magma Breath", "Immutable Shield", "Square Off", "Stormcaller" or "Poison Moth Flight"? There are a lot of really cool sorceries, but sadly both Rock Sling and Glintstone Pebble remain the very best of all of them. Imagine you find a new spell called "Aspects of the Crucible: Horns" and you think "hey, cool a new spell, which looks interesting. I will try it out!", but it turns out it is completely garbage again.
- Too many overpowered weapons, skills and spells. Have you ever heard of Bloodhound's Step? It is even more annoying than the old version of Dark Wood Grain Ring getting a Ninja Flip when still having a midroll in DS1. Flipping Havel Moms were all over the place with no downsides and now you get an even more annoying tool in Elden Ring, called Bloodhound's Step.
- There are too many weapons with bleed effects, but only very few with effects like Sleep (St. Trina's Sword) or Madness (Vyke's Spear). Poison remains completely useless and scarlet rot sounds interesting, but is anyone using a build with scarlet rot? Scarlet Aeonia looks fancy, but it is just not good enough, so lets use Rivers of Blood again?
- Why is Transient Moonlight stronger, quicker and more FP efficient than every other spell in the game?
- Smithing Stones are really bad in this game, because you are getting fked early in the game, when you waste it on weapons, where perhaps you want to switch it out for a new weapon you find 10 mins later in the game. But you cannot use the new weapon, because you don't have any smithing stones left, therefore the old upgraded weapon has better damage than the new weapon. So you are forced to stick with the old weapon...
- On the other hand, Somber Smithing Stones are too good in this game. Grab the Moonveil and upgrade it to +9 at the very start of the game. Who needs 99% of all other weapons and skills? Using the Zweihander with Storm Assault or a Mace with Wild Strikes? No, why would you do this, right?
- Parry is extremely weird and risky due to the parry timings. Sure, if you are good with it, it feels really good. But in the meantime, I just use Transient Moonlight or Taker's Flame from a safe distance dealing twice the damage than you trying to parry and riposte an enemy with either annoying timed attacks or speed of light attacks.
- Staggering an enemy with a visceral attack as a follow up is worse than just attacking it while he is vulnerable. You staggered a dragon? Fine, but don't visceral attack him for 1k damage, just continuously attack him with your weapon for 2k damage!
- Unfinished quests (Patches, Tanith), really messed up quests like Sellen turning into a ball or buggy quests (Alexander not leaving Radahn's area) are so bad in this game.
- Glitches like Carian Retaliation or transfering specific weapon arts and movesets to other weapons are also bad
- PvP is so bad, because of afk rune exploiters or people constantly running away of you (sometimes with Bloodhound's Step) in order to regen their life, but wasting your time. There is no arena to properly duel with other people. On the other hand there is a big Colloseum in Limgrave with no purpose. There are no covenants. Too many Gank Troops waiting for you with their Moonveils and Rivers of Blood. People abusing Eclipse Shotel with death blight unavoidable instadeath mechanics and much more.
- Coop is unenjoyable when minmaxed twinks are constantly invading you, while you want to calmly enjoy the game with your friend without any pain in the necks.
- No buyable Larval Tears
- NG+ feels like a cheap game mechanic, but it is ok though.
- The endings are bad. First scene: "The fallen leaves tell a story..." Second scene: The sky with different colors depending on the ending. Third Scene: Tarnished sitting on the throne. Wow, almost as good as Mass Effect 3 ending. The only good ending is Ranni's Ending.
- FromSoftware's balance in this game is terrible. You have op hoarfrost stomp, then it gets nerfed into the ground. You have Sword of Night and Flame, then it gets nerfed into the ground. A fan of Adula's Moonblade? Guess what they did to it.
I really hope that the DLCs will be promising and interesting. Otherwise it is a solid and fun game, but not a 10/10.
In the shaded castle, on the bridge there is one of them, if you don't advance on the bridge, the long-range attacks will not pass the wall, even from the front.

Players character is further away from the screen. Just like in DS2. Doesn't feel right. It's like an angled top down view most of the time, like in the old 2D RPGs when the camera should be behind you. As it was in Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. Immersion suffers otherwise.

so basically this game is not Dark Souls 2 2, it is actually Dark Souls 1 2! now... let me explain, you see, the reason why elden ring is Dark Souls 1 2 is because of the fact that they way both games pan out are very similar, so, Dark souls 1 start and mid game are very good, however late game, is not as good. Elden ring is also like this, with the start and mid game being very good. while the late game being bad. I do hope that Elden ring gets a really good DLC, like Artorias of the abyss, or better yet, a DLC like the ringed city!

This game has flaws. But the positives simply outweight the negatives immensely. 10/10 would play again. In fact I'm going to right now and start ng+5

Gonna be honest. Elden Ring isn't the magnum opus of Miyazaki it was hyped up to be. Still say the world and level design of Dark Souls before the Lord Vessel is how it should be done.

this reason why elden ring is better than dark souls 2 is very simple: 1) not as many bullshit hitboxes 2)poison isn't broken and 3) no frigid outskirts. however bloodborne is still very much better than both those games
