Ranking of all Spirit Ashes.
This is a community-editable rank of Spirit Ashes, the objective is to help the community identify the best performing and worst performing Ashes based on their FP consumption and overall viability.
- The initial rank on the page is calculated based on how much damage a fully upgraded Spirit does alone against a Draconic Tree Sentinel.
- There are 6 Tiers and it goes as follows: D (<20), C (>= 20 <40), B (>= 40 <60), A (>=60 <80), +S (>=80), -S (Does something special)
- If 2 Spirits have roughly the same amount of Damage, Summoning cost will be compared. Currently (February 2022) there are 64 Spirit Ashes.
- Depending on Playstyle of the Player and Enemy values can change.
- Spirit Ashes are situational, and the tiering isn't always 100% reflective of the spirit. It is best to try out different ashes that you have and see which works when.

If DLC doesn't give us Walking Mausoleum as the spirit ash I'm not buying it

Ok but how can you tell renowned ashes from the standard ones? I know that by the upgrade they require, but I think the article would benefit by giving us the option to display only standard or renowned ashes.

I've played most of the Spirit Ashes at one time or another, just because I'm curious as to how they work. Most of the guides I've found for this game are simply terrible or out of date, so you really have to try everything yourself. As far as Spirit Ashes I've found they're mostly extremely stupid, mostly dictated by RNG and I can imagine some of that is by design, From doesn't want them to play the game for you. But I'd also imagine that From, like most gaming companies, can't do any kind of real intelligence behind these things they don't have the skill. As some examples, Mimic is just stupid it will just do random things there's almost no way to force it to do anything that makes sense and very occasionally it will just be great, all RNG. Summon Tiche and the idiot will do its great skill attack no matter how far away it is from the target and it will just stand there for minutes on end too. Aggro for a Spirit Ash makes zero sense at all, most of them (including Kristoff which I've seen mentioned in so many guides as a great tank, BS) couldn't hold aggro if their life depended on it. And then some like Skeletons and GreatShield Soldiers seem to hold it no matter their damage.

sep 02 anon is just reaching for anything to complain about in this game, unless you specifically go into arenas with spirits on they're purely pve/offline assists and he's acting like he's not dean takahashi at every fromsoft game he's tried to play since 2022, foh
I personally have a problem with spirit summons, and that is they are very unbalanced in my opinion, with no middle ground.
When you play with summon - even not a top one - they trivialize fight with almost any boss, as you always can retreat and let them take aggro, and meantime you heal/buff/cast a spell/make charged attack and so on. Playing the game with summons is VERY EASY.
On the other hand, as soon as you play solo, you immidiately feel how agressive and relentless are bosses in this game, with long and deceptive combos and coded reactions on your actions. And that is before we talk of how many duo, trio or flanked bosses there are in dungeons.
So the game IS meant to be played with summons, it is just NOT well balanced for that.

Not gonna lie, I really want a crucible knight ashes. That'd be pretty cool.
Anon below me has clearly never felt how awesome it is to summon the Soldjars of Fortune and pop double Ruptured Crystal Tear wondrous Physick before me and the boys are witnessed in our crimes against nature

After watching a run that uses literally every spirit ash to solo a boss, it's really a shame how weak they are without upgrades. They're one of the most novel parts of the game, but you're stuck with the handful you've actually upgraded. Over a year of updates and you still have to farm runes & get every bell bearing just to try new things. Gives me conniptions.

You could make a spirit build with the Mohg rune, using cursed blood pot, using faith to buff them ect. I mean people have made a throwing jar build for a meme with the companion jar, jarwight puppet or soldjar of fortune, Jar hat, Jar cannon, scaling with dex str sometimes other stats.

Isn't it weird that all of the factions have ashes of their soldiers yet only 4 of them have their knights a summons?
- Anonymous
still hoping for the big spooky scary skeletons and their lasers to be summonable
- Anonymous
Btw blood cursed pot turn all ashes here into red eyes. And Passive ashes who rarely attack will be super aggressive.

It's really easy to figure out how much hp does each spirit ashes have on each level if you use ultimate cheat table and open npc manager list on every npc on the map, spirit ashes is at the top of the list. Fun fact +10 mimic have the same hp as you with all 14 of your flask inside him.
Been updating the descriptions on the ranking table. If anyone sees any typos or important info that should be added let me know, or go ahead and add it. Want to make it a good quick reference page without having to delve into the info on each ash individually :]
- Anonymous
Should've been a separate class seeing how little try hard use and the people who summon them aren't even feel like a tool this just feel like a npc instead of your own army. If only i can summon many diff ashes at once while making them less tanky. Imagine summon wolf and archer lady and she just ride it combination of 2 ashes. Would love to summon every where ashes long as you have fp too.

why is the list jumbled? its still highest to lowest but sometimes stuff is in the wrong order? fix???? this list is dumb anyway soldjars are s+++ becaus little guys :)

When sorted by inventory order ashed 42 and below are grave glovewort ashes and all ashes 43 and above are ghost glovewort.

Wish they all a little weaker in stats in exchange for you to summon 3 diff spirit ashes and 1 legendary ashes at the same time and can resummon the dead one that isn’t legendary as long as you have fb.

It's an ok idea, but I wish they had fine-tuned the mechanics with these spirits. First off, fewer spirits with a more specific role and "personality"; like Latenna is excellent rpds, but is unable to move and pretty much defenceless if the enemy turns their attention to her or like perfumer Tricia is a buffer and nothing else. Second, you'd get upgrade materials for these spirits only if you use these in a boss fight and they survive it. Boss would also buffed and you'd get less runes, like summoning npcs in many previous FS games. Just spitballin' here, what do you think? Are they fine as is, essentially a difficulty slider and pokemon collectible or do you wish there was something more to these?
- Anonymous
Are there any merchants in the game that let you sell spirit ashes? When you get to NG+ and beyond, extra copies of these are worse than worthless since you can't have more than one of the same ash at the same upgrade level, meaning they actively get in the way of upgrading each other. It'd be better if they just didn't reappear (like what Memory Stones do) and gave you a Golden Rune instead (like what Memory Stones SHOULD do), but here we are, so right now it's either find somewhere to sell them or throw them in the trash / actively avoid picking them up again.

Never really used them, but I think this is a genius way to make the game more accessible to solo players.

The bit about the Caelid Colosseum being the only colosseum to allow spirit ashes is misleading. Unlocking the one in Caelid unlocks the use of spirit ashes in all other colosseums.

This page should include the number of times spirit ashes can be upgraded

So many times, I enter the fog, summon my spirit ash, and then have to solo the boss because the ash insists on fighting whatever scrub enemy is on the other side of the fog. Just dumb.

i love spending half an hour in grey skeleton dungeon 9 so i can fight watchdog 5 that drops 3,100 runes and the worst spirit ash you've ever seen
- Anonymous
In all honesty, I think this game would be 10x better if these things just never existed in the first place. I get this was supposed to help newer players to get into the game, but early game is easy enough to where it probably wouldn't be an issue anyway. They would have also had an easier time designing bosses when they don't have to worry about ashes. As compensation, the damage from endgame bosses could be reduced by, like, 20%. I know this wouldn't automatically solve every issue with this game, but I feel like that an Elden Ring without spirits would have been a better game.

Enemies that should have been Spirit Ashes:

Duelists and Rotten Duelists
Alabaster and Onyx Lords

Lone wolf and fanged imps are really cool and really powerful if you know how to use them

Shame there's no renowned Cuckoo Knight summon. Guess I'll have to do it myself
I don't have my game open, there needs to be a table to tell me what's a "special" and a "Regular" ash so I can prepare for upgrades when I'm away from my game.

What does it mean if your summon has a banner with a tree on it?

I feel like we've looped back around to where people get upset at you if you don't use Spirit Ashes because they think you consider yourself superior to them

Land squirts should definitely NOT be ranked as low as D. They are actually really strong in many situations against melee-only enemies. Their poison clouds don't just stack up poison, but also deal damage really fast, and they're pretty darn tanky. Just take cover behind them and keep them buffed and alive with healing incantations and they quickly melt anything that comes near. Ainrun used them to great effect in his "trash summons only run" to get past some of the trickiest roadblocks, including draconic tree sentinel.

Would be a cool QOL Update for the page to list everything with 5 in a row instead of 4, so that it compares to the game's listing of items.
You'd see if you are missing something on first glance.

Kinda sucks that there are so many "Renowned" ashes, but only 6 count as "Legendary" for the achievement. Makes you wonder what even the point of a lot of them is, if there isn't even a reason to collect them for collection's sake. Every time I kill an optional dungeon boss and get another renowned (but not Legendary) ashes, I say "well that's cute, but I'm not going to use it instead of the +10 Engvall I've already got, so..."
- Anonymous
I wish there were basilisk ashes. Unleashing minions to douse enemies with death gas would be satisfying.

Playing a necromancer and having a couple of skeletons I can summon that get back up if they don't get hit again when they Regen really completes the vibe.

If I use healing incantations, warming stones, or other sorts of healing items, can I give more health to my summons? I’d love to do a play through where I become Elden Lord by being the best healer in the Lands Between.

Either the damage threshold has changed or the ranking have been changed, but either way the description of what rank means what above the list doesn't match what's in the list at all now.
Either additional columns should be added for both subjective ranks (current) and the ranks based on the test fight, or you should just delete the explanation of the ranks.

Give your mimic a Prayerful Strike weapon and it is legit unkillable.

Would be kinda cool to have a Sprit Summon as an item you can get from a Remembrance boss in the DLC IMO
- Anonymous
Would be really cool if we get a Carian Knight summon that is Tarnished shaped like the summons.
- Anonymous
I think summoning in this game would be more interesting if Spirit Summons were allowed in all areas/dungeons, except in the boss rooms.
I don't understand the reasoning behind not being able to summon everywhere but only in some restricted areas?
If the argument is that it would make the game too easy, I would argue it's the fact that you can summon them in boss rooms that makes the game too easy with summons, not open world areas or dungeons. In the open world, it just makes the game more fun, because you're fighting many ennemies at once anyways.

So let me get this straight, Luthel does the most damage by a considerable margin and has good mobility with a teleport and has attacks to work at any range and is one of, if not the best for drawing attention and you have her at the lower end of S tier and have other summons that in your own descriptions acknowledge to be worse than luthel placed higher than her. What happened on this page?

I just beat the game with my crucible knight build and then grabbed all ten great glovewort and all the glovewort ball bearings. Now I'm going through NG+ trying out a bunch of different spirit ashes.
I never really liked NG+ cause it's just the same as the first time round but now I have all the items I want and all the bosses are incredibly easy. But now that I'm digging in a bit more into the spirit ashes - especially really good spirit ashes you only get late in the game like the Beastmen - I'm still getting to see a lot of items I want to find and use, so it's keeping my attention a lot better.
All in all, they're an interesting thing to add to your build and I'm certainly enjoying playing around with them.

An excellent way of reusing assets. The game has enough padding, might as well add some flavor to it. Word of warning, many spirit ashes are massively overhyped by the community. If anyone is reading this, try different ashes and see what works best for you, don't go wasting upgrade materials because some chump just happened to find the perfect summon for HIS build.

Putrid corpse is decent C+ it attracts enemy aggro which is quite good for early game spellcasters and tanks like a champ at higher levels.

I'd like to see in the future more spirit ashes, a blood soaked albinauric, sprinhares (for emotional support at least I guess), the venom spitting snake (or the Cristal one), a flock of vampires, a single old woman vampire (that sings when she's not agro), all these wouldn't break the game and would be good companions.

I used Deenh for one of my runs. Midgame it's still viable. Then it just becomes a one-time buff and dies quite soon...forgive me, then again, my major comparison point for summons is fighting Malenia. If a summon is good against Malenia then it's one of the best.

Some summons are great.
Some summons are good.
Some summons are decent.
Some summons might seem awful at first glance of use.
But they all have a job for a certain situation and suited build to assist, there's one for everybody, don't sleep on any of these whatsoever people, just use them properly and join the fray alongside instead of leaving them to it.

How do we not have a crucible knight summon yet (with a toned down moveset)

Better if you had a 'recommended summons against a boss' page instead of the relatively useless tier list. Dung man may well be S+ but there are still better options than him for some fights.

Make an easy strategy section for summons in your strategies for boss fights... I'm not insulting anyone who uses them. Just saying if the strategy for say a caster is to use a summons to distract then it's a useless strategy for a caster not trying to get carried.

The absolute disrespect of not giving Soldjars of Fortune an honorary S+ ranking

Did my first run of the game with ash summons on just about every boss and am now near the end of my first run not using any ash summons and gotta say it really makes the boss fights a different challenge but pushed me to get allot better at dodging and actually learning the movesets of bosses more carefully, for anyone looking level up their own playing skill level i strongly recommend doing a no ash summons run

Would have been interesting to me if ash summons had various level of stat requirements to use (ie certain int faith arc ect.) so that specific summons would be part of the strategy of a certain build but just giving something this strong to every character for basically nothing seems like too much imo

why elden ring wiki have no npc summon and spirit stats? ds3 wiki have every summon npc stats.
