Mimic Tear Ashes is a Spirit and Summon in Elden Ring. Mimic Tear Ashes summons mimic tear spirit.

Mimic Tear can also be found as a Boss in Elden Ring. For more information, see Mimic Tear.

Legendary ashen remains.
Use to summon the spirit of a mimic tear.
Summoning consumes HP rather than FP.

This spirit takes the form of the summoner to fight alongside
them, but its mimicry does not extend to imitating the
summoner's will.
Mimic tears are the result of an attempt by the Eternal City to
forge a lord.

Elden Ring Mimic Tear Ashes Guide

  • Consumes HP (660), but does not consume FP.
  • Mimic Tear will make use of the following:
    • Currently-equipped Weapons - Prioritizes use of right-hand weapon wielded when summoned, can also powerstance dual wielded weapons.
    • Armor and shields (if applicable)
    • Talismans
      • If Shabriri's Woe is duplicated by the mimic and subsequently unequipped by the player, it will become the focus for aggro.
    • Spells/Incantations (if using a staff or seal respectively)
    • Arrows/Bolts - Unlimited supply of those equipped when summoned
      • Swaps between Arrows/Bolt types at random when firing.
    • Consumables - Can use as many as the player had equipped when summoned
      • Mimic Tear will not increase offensive consumable use even if lacking a weapon.
      • Exception: Flask of Crimson Tears appears to be limited and does not need to be equipped by the player when summoned.
    • Visually altered by the Host's Trick-Mirror and the Furled Fingers's Trick-Mirror. Replaces the white aura with the cooperator aura or removes the white aura entirely, making it identical to the player.
  • Mimic Tear will not make use of the following:
    • Great Runes
    • Pouch
  • Mimic Tear will still attempt to use items for which they do not meet the stat requirement . Examples include:
    • Will attempt, and fail, to cast Spells/Incantations for which it doesn't meet the stat requirements, even if there are alternatives for which it does meet the requirements.
    • Will attempt to use weapon skills for which it does not meet the stat requirements.
    • Will 1-Hand a weapon even if it fails to meet the STR requirement of the weapon when not making use of the 2-Hand bonus.
    • Will continue to prioritize use of right-hand weapon given when summoned, even if it fails the stat requirement and another weapon is available to it.
    • Note that the mimic doesn't get stat boosts from Godrick's Great Rune, equipment, or other sources; so if you're using any of those to meet the requirements for spells or weapon skills, it won't be able to use them.
  • You must be near a rebirth monument to summon spirits from ashes.
  • When you are close to a rebirth monument and able to summon, a monument icon will appear on the left side of the screen.
  • Mostly because it mimics the summoner, it is vulnerable to Death Blight and will die instantly when it procs.
  • Since V. 1.03, some players encountered a bug where the Mimic won't vanish after a Boss' death but will instead continue fighting "the air"  as if the boss was still there.

I easily beat the mimic and that made me think...if you punch yourself and it hurts, are you weak? Or are you strong?

      • Anonymous

There is a clear difference between my mimic tear and myself, at least in terms of domage resistance. Against Malenia, while I get destroyed by the waterfall dance, my mimic tera can take it head on without even losing 25% of its hp. I'm curious to know how and why this works.

        • Anonymous

Does your level improve Damage/Defense of Mimic?
For Example: If I level up Intelligence does Mimic Sorceries deal more damage?

          • Anonymous

Good but ai is random, can easily be killed if deathblighted, and like the player can be garbed by any attacks that do it.

            • Anonymous

I kinda hate how after you get this summon it's just the best and you'll pretty much never use any other summon again. Balance is hard. I have no idea how you balance a summon that's supposed to be good and versatile and not have it be too good, aside from maybe nerfing the FP costs of other summons. RIP Stormhawk Deenh. You were a nice bird.

              • Anonymous

i think that the AI is dumb and the vulnerability you have after using this summon is crazy
you basically cant get hit after summoning this thing if you havent had an opportunity to heal yet

                • Anonymous

In my experience, this dude is kind of useless if you have a huge range of spells/incantations equipped. Tried him against a few bosses and he'll just cast **** at random and get killed before even landing a hit

                  • Anonymous

They nerfed the ever living hell out of it and it's still the best summon in the game in 99.9% of use cases, insane

                    • Anonymous

This is my plan C, nuclear option for bosses. First few tries, solo. Next, summon player online. Mimic tear as last resort if I'm really frustrated. Absolutely rips with my dual great stars build. Better than a coop player because the boss doesn't get a health boost

                      • Anonymous

I find no shame in using this or any other strat to play the game. It's suppose to be fun. Not everyone finds getting killed by certain bosses repeatedly fun. If it helps you win and have fun, then who cares if you use it? If they didn't want people to use it, it wouldn't be in the game. So have fun, play how you want to play, and don't let other's tell you otherwise.

Still really great, imo. Put warming stones, the perfume that gives you a shield, and gravity stone fans on your items bar, then summon mimic and provding your build is decent, it will still solo almost anything in the game. I went to Selia on NG+ and just stood there blocking, whilst Mimic was wrecking everything and tossing out healing stones like crazy!

people seem to try any alternative to Mimic Tears out of boredom, main one being Tiche, usually followed by Azula Beastmen, Greatshield Soldiers, and a major part of "big group" and "tanky big guy" ashes. But their main flaw is always the same: there's ALWAYS someone claiming that [insert 20x more useless spirit] is "better than Mimic Tear", which always leads back to the same perspective as, for example, cleaning company ALWAYS using toilets as comparison for [insert place that humans always puts their hands on] - if something is ALWAYS used as the example, its probably the best one at that, therefore there is no escaping the versatility and potential from Mimic Ashes, not even with Tiche, she is good at dodging yes, but depending on your build, you can have Mimic Tear: proc bleed, proc frostbite, proc scarlet rot, proc all of the 3 at once, use INFINITE Kukris and then even infinite ammunition Pulley Crossbow with Burred Bolt, can have him regenerate himself and proc bleed at the same time by using Blood Tax as well as Prayerful Strike on Great Stars, proc rot and regenerate himself by using that on a Rotten Greataxe and Rotten Battle Hammer, rendering him virtually able to solo some of the hardest bosses with you just sitting in the corner and watching as he constantly deals enormous damage and regenerates himself, let alone when you decide to step in and help. and those are just SOME of the creative examples, the possibilities are endless really, considering the guy can also probably spam spells (and yes, even healing ones) if you summon him only wielding a Sacred Seal or a Glintstone Staff. that's just the tip of the iceberg really, trying to deny that Mimic Ashes are the strongest just for the sake of "not rendering everything else unviable in comparison on the long run" is different from just supporting another spirit ash cuz you have fun playing with it, and this pretending circus is so futile its practically bound to stop happening when people start realising there is just no replacing the Mimic Tears, either that or Fromsoft decides to heavily nerf Mimic Tear's massive health and nerf its damage even more than it already is, then we can talk about other ashes being "literally stronger"

What exactly does leveling up the mimic do? I thought it “mimiced” your abilities. Is there a nerf to lower levels?

                              • Anonymous

This Ash, despite it's nerfs, is still extremely effective in almost any situation, as long as you account for it's habits.

I do highly recommend making sure you remove consumables and any extra weapons before summoning: The AI is not very good at mimicing how you like to play and will waste time (and health) using buffs, consumables, and other things you probably don't want it to use.

This thing desperately needs work on its aoe, I'm so ****ing sick of using it while powerstancing weapons, or 2handing, and watching this brain dead sack of crap try to only spam main hand light attacks, or trying to cast spells at point blank range when given a catalyst to use. It's honestly painful to watch an imitation do so poorly at actually following my example, or even doing blatant common sense **** like NEVER using main hand r1s while power stancing, because why the **** would you. At the very least force them to 2h the weapon if u spawn it while 2handing your weapon, so many strength builds are hard handicapped by 1handing the weapon, it's such a bad call to leave it like that

Does the mimic get some HP back if it kills an enemy with the blasphemous blade? I use different summons at blood-filled lake for a little variety and to speed up the rune farm. I noticed yesterday the mimic had nearly a full HP bar after all the red albinaurics in and around the lake were dead. It says here it can use flasks to heal and I don't see the mimic get the same effect I do when I kill with that sword. So is it using a flask to heal or getting HP back from killing an enemy with that sword?

This boi is your best friend if your having a really hard time with a certain boss and you just want to get it over with asap, it doesn't need mind investment despite being a legendary summon since it takes health instead of fp to summon, it of course is a clone of you that copies your whole build and armor set that you have equipped upon summoning it, and it is just ungodly tanky to the point that it can facetank a ton of damage from even the mightiest of foes for a good while.

                                      • I thought my build was bs but this absolute unit proved me wrong. My build is amazing. We work great together. But Bosses should have more health, sometimes, it feels like im cheating or cheesing the bosses... anyways, very fun Spirit Summon.

The mimic tear used my consumables like the jar pots I prepared and the aromatics vials without the expense of the materials since I didn't use them. He also swaps weapons and two hands at his leisure, he will even buff me with golden vow. As long as I have it all equipped and ready when he pops in, he does all the work for me. I am the Elden Lord he thinks I am.

                                          • Anonymous

Summon this with Prayerful Strike on great mace & decent set of armour & big shield, this mimic is the most tanky thing out there. Yes, it will whiff ability use often, but those times when it lands is enough to heal it back. It also heals you if you are nearby.

                                            • Anonymous

Does the part about mimic using weapons one handed include colossal weapons? I thought I saw it use the godslayer's greatsword two handed for the duo boss fight in Auriza hero's grave, now I'm not so sure. If it only uses weapons one handed regardless I'd be better off summoning it holding Rykard's sword or Milos then yes?

                                              • Anonymous

Just for clarification, when it says the mimic will try to use something it doesn't meet the requirements for does that mean the mimic has its own attributes that might not match those of a high level build doing NG+3 or does it mean the mimic can choose items that the player has in their inventory but doesn't meet the requirements for? I thought it could only use what the player has equipped when it's summoned.

I understand why people are complaining about rivers of blood but mimic tear ash can only be used in PvE. So why complain?

                                                  • Anonymous

So where is it exactly? just saying it's behind an imp statue door in night's sacred grounds isn't good enough. Looking at the map and its location from the ancestral woods grace it looks like its right down on the same level and to the south east of the giant sitting on a throne like the boss area for the dragonkin soldier. Some info on how the f**k to get down to it would be nice especially as I couldn't give a rats arse about Ranni's quest I'm only here for the ghost glovewart bell bearing and the mimic tear spirit ash.

All these ppl hating on my guy Mimic Tear. Yes he makes certaint fights easier. So does Magic. Can we please stop gatekeeping Soulslike games? Like i get it you wanna feel better about your no-hit [Broken Sword equivalent here] speedrun but cant you do that without hating on other ppl for playing the game how they like it. geez

Should be renamed: Free Win Tear, i actively refuse to use this thing unless i am facing a boss who i absolutely hate and/or a recycled enemy who i am sick of dealing with.

                                                        • Anonymous

Completely trivializes the game. This IS the Easy Mode - incredibly disappointing that FromSoftware abandoned their overarching vision and philosophy. Portends their fall from grace into becoming the next Bethesda - once you give into the temptation of adding something like this, you can never turn away from it… those 14 million sales just smell too damn sweet…

                                                          • Anonymous

The mimic can definitely helps those of use who don't want to spend hours trying to beat a single boss. But, just like any of the spirit summons, it depends on the boss, fight space, etc. Huge fight spaces like the ones with the two Astel's, the mimic gets lost and won't engage unless the boss comes close enough. The twin gargoyles to get to deeproot simply ate the mimic, and it will also YOLO in and take huge damage. I beat Malenia with it just yesterday, but tested different summons before any serious try. It wasn't that the mimic was so smart or good against her, I used it because it could support the "burst her down" approach that I took. When I tried to take a different approach, it was just a healing puppet for her. So definitely pros and cons to the mimic just like any of the other summons, it's not an automatic easy mode.

                                                            • Anonymous

Everyone disliking the comments fairly calling this **** overpowered are the same people who used the dupe glitch to be able to beat demons' souls. Post-nerf it is still only barely rivaled by Black Knife Tiche and Greatshield Soldiers leagues better than most other ashes. If only Flame of The Fell God got the Fromsoft legendary treatment.

                                                              • Anonymous

Anyone here from dark souls, who is also kinda disappointed that we can't have a mimic chest summon walking around with you, and spin kicking things to death on your adventure? Or am i alone in this one?

Don't get me wrong a summon that transforms into your build is awesome! Some people would even go and make persona refrences to it.

But I realy miss the mimic chests! They where unique, hilarious, and for invaders the greates friend on the battle field. T_T rip you amazing chests, you shall never be forgotten in my heart.

                                                                • My mimic tear experience (post-nerf) has been positive It definitely feels like an easy-mode for a lot bosses. I'm a str-int build and if I have time, I usually summon the mimic tear in with the royal greatsword and then switch to the fallingstar beast jaw myself.

I do find it's pretty OP in most places, even when under-equipped. I was playing "fashion souls" and dressed it in cloth armor with a cross naginata+ stormcaller - and it made very good use of that setup. It was here that I realized that the mimic tear can be a decent "trainer". If you want to see how to use a weapon/ash optimally, equip a mimic with it and keep an eye on them. It's AI, and it's not perfect, but you can still learn a thing or two by watching it.

RE: Malenia - using your mimic is a double-edged blade for this fight. I had the Royal Greatsword equipped and maybe got lucky. When I spammed the weapon art, my mimic followed suit and Malenia had no response. However - if your mimic tear isn't aggressive enough, it will just be a source of healing for Malenia, so keep that in mind.

                                                                  • Anonymous

Every time someone says Mimic is bad the response is "your build is bad, Mimic carried me through the game", I dunno about that, maybe the guys who need a powerful summon to hard carry them in every boss fight are the ones that have the bad builds?

                                                                    • Anonymous

The most over-rated and underwhelming spirit ash in the game imo, if I'm struggling on a boss because my build isn't optimised against it's weaknesses a brain-damaged copy of that exact build isn't much help at all, I actually regret upgrading it to +10

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

If a boss can be cheesed Mimic is the usual suspect, if you're willing to shell out runes to upgrade weapons that aren't suitable for your build the Mimic can and will use them to great effect, don't like applying status but this boss annoyed you one too many times break out the bleed and watch as Mimic allows you to shred them in seconds. Warning: It can't heal unless you have a non-flask heal, fill your hot bar with items and spam them.

                                                                          • Anonymous

If you want it to do more weapon arts more often equip the weapon of choice in the opposite hand not the main hand . This makes it do wa more often. As for spells leave just the wand in the main hand and a shield in the left. It's great

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                    • Anonymous

Is it just me or is the AI for this ridiculously passive with a shield? I had to take a break from spanking Niall to save my +10 Mimic from one of his mobs it was losing to.

                                                                                      • I regret summoning this thing for Morgott. It could basically solo him; the fight was over in about two minutes and I felt like I wanted a do-over, but alas, it was too late. His foolish ambitions were put to rest, and it felt cheap as hell. Didn't even get to learn his moveset before it was over. I urge anyone reading this to avoid using the Mimic Tear for anything but Malenia (I hear she's tough), and even then only if you've tried and tried again and have grown too frustrated to give it another shot.

Mimic should have heavy armour + Dragoncrest Shield Talisman equiped to maximize damage negation. Also equip Boiled Crab for Mimic to use, along with 2 cursed-blodd pots, which can help Mimic AI.
