Mimic Tear Ashes is a Spirit and Summon in Elden Ring. Mimic Tear Ashes summons mimic tear spirit.

Mimic Tear can also be found as a Boss in Elden Ring. For more information, see Mimic Tear.

Legendary ashen remains.
Use to summon the spirit of a mimic tear.
Summoning consumes HP rather than FP.

This spirit takes the form of the summoner to fight alongside
them, but its mimicry does not extend to imitating the
summoner's will.
Mimic tears are the result of an attempt by the Eternal City to
forge a lord.

Elden Ring Mimic Tear Ashes Guide

  • Consumes HP (660), but does not consume FP.
  • Mimic Tear will make use of the following:
    • Currently-equipped Weapons - Prioritizes use of right-hand weapon wielded when summoned
    • Armor and shields (if applicable)
    • Talismans
      • If Shabriri's Woe is duplicated by the mimic and subsequently unequipped by the player, it will become the focus for aggro.
    • Spells/Incantations (if using a staff or seal respectively)
    • Arrows/Bolts - Unlimited supply of those equipped when summoned
      • Swaps between Arrows/Bolt types at random when firing.
    • Consumables - Can use as many as the player had equipped when summoned
      • Mimic Tear will not increase offensive consumable use even if lacking a weapon.
      • Exception: Flask of Crimson Tears appears to be limited and does not need to be equipped by the player when summoned.
    • Visually altered by the Host's Trick-Mirror and the Furled Fingers's Trick-Mirror. Replaces the white aura with the cooperator aura or removes the white aura entirely, making it identical to the player.
  • Mimic Tear will not make use of the following:
    • Great Runes
    • Pouch
  • Mimic Tear will still attempt to use items for which they do not meet the stat requirement . Examples include:
    • Will attempt, and fail, to cast Spells/Incantations for which it doesn't meet the stat requirements, even if there are alternatives for which it does meet the requirements.
    • Will attempt to use weapon skills for which it does not meet the stat requirements.
    • Will 1-Hand a weapon even if it fails to meet the STR requirement of the weapon when not making use of the 2-Hand bonus.
    • Will continue to prioritize use of right-hand weapon given when summoned, even if it fails the stat requirement and another weapon is available to it.
    • Note that the mimic doesn't get stat boosts from Godrick's Great Rune, equipment, or other sources; so if you're using any of those to meet the requirements for spells or weapon skills, it won't be able to use them.
  • You must be near a rebirth monument to summon spirits from ashes.
  • When you are close to a rebirth monument and able to summon, a monument icon will appear on the left side of the screen.
  • Mostly because it mimics the summoner, it is vulnerable to Death Blight and will die instantly when it procs.
  • Since V. 1.03, some players encountered a bug where the Mimic won't vanish after a Boss' death but will instead continue fighting "the air"  as if the boss was still there.

Every time someone says Mimic is bad the response is "your build is bad, Mimic carried me through the game", I dunno about that, maybe the guys who need a powerful summon to hard carry them in every boss fight are the ones that have the bad builds?

      • Anonymous

The most over-rated and underwhelming spirit ash in the game imo, if I'm struggling on a boss because my build isn't optimised against it's weaknesses a brain-damaged copy of that exact build isn't much help at all, I actually regret upgrading it to +10

        • Anonymous

If you beat the final boss with mimic tear your mimic should come behind you and backstab you and become elden lord.

          • Anonymous

If a boss can be cheesed Mimic is the usual suspect, if you're willing to shell out runes to upgrade weapons that aren't suitable for your build the Mimic can and will use them to great effect, don't like applying status but this boss annoyed you one too many times break out the bleed and watch as Mimic allows you to shred them in seconds. Warning: It can't heal unless you have a non-flask heal, fill your hot bar with items and spam them.

            • Anonymous

After the nerfs and the AI changes . If you want it to do more weapon arts more often equip the weapon of choice in the opposite hand not the main hand . This makes it do wa more often. As for spells leave just the wand in the main hand and a shield in the left. It's great

              • Anonymous

I know that mimic tear has a damage modifier to make it do less than the player but does it also affect status buildup from its attacks?

                • Anonymous

To think there was an entire quest line built around the Mimic Ashes, and it got axed. I would love to see how it would affect the game if it were put back.

                  • Anonymous

It seems to use consumables more when I equip it with 2 talismans and only heal spells. Until it runs out of consumables, then it will occasionally cast some heals.

Tested with urgent heal and heal, posion knives and fire bombs

Mimic tear OP? It was literally vanquished by Malenia in less than minute. I guess i'll just summon my friends for help.

                      • Anonymous

Is it just me or is the AI for this ridiculously passive with a shield? I had to take a break from spanking Niall to save my +10 Mimic from one of his mobs it was losing to.

                        • I regret summoning this thing for Morgott. It could basically solo him; the fight was over in about two minutes and I felt like I wanted a do-over, but alas, it was too late. His foolish ambitions were put to rest, and it felt cheap as hell. Didn't even get to learn his moveset before it was over. I urge anyone reading this to avoid using the Mimic Tear for anything but Malenia (I hear she's tough), and even then only if you've tried and tried again and have grown too frustrated to give it another shot.

                          • Anonymous

Equip sanctuary stones in your inventory before summoning and the Mimic will use them occasionally when you're low.

Can mimic use radiant baldachins blessing? I have never seen the mimic use it while testing it in outposts, outside of fort gael and before castle redmane bridge.

Was it part of the behaviour tweak to mimic in 1.0.3?

The best way for Mimic Tear to heal himself (after the patch removed ability to use Flasks) is 3 (max) Raw Meat Dumplings and Blasphemous Blade weapon art which heals the Mimic per use AND the player. Mimic should have heavy armour + Dragoncrest Shield Talisman equiped to maximize damage negation. Also equip Boiled Crab for Mimic to use, along with 2 cursed-blodd pots, which can help Mimic AI.

                                • Anonymous

If you want a powerful and long lasting mimic tear, give it a weapon with prayerful strike. My mimic was able to last through the entirety of the final fight.

                                  • Anonymous

If you brew perfumes your mimic will have an infinite supply of them, extremely useful with the 90% shield and the damage down one.

I defeated the mimic tear in the boss battle but it isn’t listed on my summons anywhere? Anyone know why this might’ve happened? In th boss fight we killed each other on the last blow but it said I completed it and gave it to me but it’s nowhere to be found.

                                      • Anonymous

So my process for late game bosses has basically been
                                        1. Get real excited and learn their first phase. Have a grand old time.
                                        2. Keep dying on the second phase while learning their attacks
                                        3. Get frustrated and summon mimic tear to power through the first phase; wind up killing the second phase so fast I don't learn any of their attacks.

Any suggestions for summons that are helpful but don't carry you this hard? I'm currently using an 80 STR build with the Greatsword.

My strength build with giant crusher really maies the mimic shine. For most bosses and big enemies that can be staggered, both me and mimic two handing giant crushers can pretty much insta stagger them all with a full 3 hit combo from each of us. Follow up with a heavy misericorde riposte, then rinse and repeat

                                          • Anonymous

I don’t get it. Everyone here says Mimic Tear is OP, but on all three character I have tried Mimic Tear it just stands around and dies. Doesn’t dodge, doesn’t cast, doesn’t use items. It just two hands whatever weapon is on hand and walks towards the enemy and dies. But everyone insists it can solo the game unless this is one of those ironic community wide jokes that are poking fun at how worthless it is, in which case touché.

                                            • Anonymous

I don't see why people complain about summons. They are intended to replace human assistance, which is far more overpowered than any summon. The game gets easier as you go either way. You'll just run in and spank most bosses eventually, summon or not.

                                              • Anonymous

Mimic tear is extremely prone to bugging out. It’s not worth using most of the time. It’s strange they nerfed it’s Ali so hard when alot of the other high tier ashes can very consistently solo bosses (oracle envoy ashes being my favourite.)

Mimic used to have the advantage of costing hp but the patch 1.4 buffed the FP of players meaning even with no points in mind you can summon most of the spirits.

                                                • Anonymous

If equipped with a katana with seppuku it loves to spam the weapon art and stab itself over and over instead of actually fighting hahaha

                                                  • Anonymous

As others have said equipping a cursed blood pot seems to revert the AI nerf.

Equip cursed blood pot, summon mimic, mimic will use pot which triggers berserk mode, berserk mode seems to reset the AI back to its OG godlike status.

                                                    • Anonymous

i fought the fire giant with the mimic tear and went through the half health cutscene and when it was done the giant was dead instantly i was really confused..

                                                      • Anonymous

Don't use this if you have Night Maiden's Mist slotted. It won't kill you, but it will kill itself very quickly.

                                                        • Anonymous

Mimic Tear got a lot dumber for me. Before it would swap and use incantations and such, but not anymore. It doesn't really change from the items you spawn it with.

                                                          • Anonymous

Mimics health needs a Hella Buff.

But more over all the Ashes need a Massive AI Buff. All these ashes be Dumb Af.
Can't agro, Can't hit the side of a barn, can't dodge worth a damn.

By the way, mimic tear get copy of all your talismans, you know what that mean, you can quip Shabriri's Woe aggression talisman, summon it, then reequip an another talisman, it is quite stupid but if you are playing a mage, its pretty overpowered.

                                                              • Anonymous

i had this at +10 before i went to the altus plateau, from doing ranni's quest- im at mt gelmir rn and this wrecks face

                                                                • Anonymous

I can't even imagine this thing pre nerf, it's still so good XD, beaten so many bosses on the first try with it that otherwise probably would have wrecked me. (Running heavy armor with power stanced colossal weapons)

                                                                  • Anonymous

I’m guessing I can’t use this on my RL 1 run unless I can manage to get above 660 hp? I’m at 522 now without using Godricks rune, I don’t wanna waste time grinding this area if it’s gonna be a waste of my time

                                                                    • Anonymous

Anyone that thinks this Is not the best ashe should read this. Unlike any other ashes it is customizable, and this Is a huge asset. Yes, the IA Is stupid, and i find myself in a nj+++++ when the huge damage scales more than i do and the melee mimic could use some consumables or items to heal but for some fights like goldskin duo or malenia It Is just not enough. What do i do? I summon It with bow in left hand (with both normal and fletched Bloodborne Arrow) and catalyst on right hand. I try to take the aggro from the boss, while mimic will still do good damage and help with bleed procs. Also i remember in my first run I ended up using most of my mana with healing incantations on the mimic so it could last until the end of the elden beast fight. You can find in this comment section some disgusting builds which I am going to try soon that will make the tear massively heal itself making the melee/tank mimic solo bosses again. You can nerf this even more and It will still be the best just because the adaptability. So instead of complaining, maybe consider building your mimic and summoning It with different armament than the one you intend to use

                                                                      • Anonymous

Give this thing giant crusher with bloodhounds step and holy heck it goes off. It just about soloed loretta in the haligtree.

                                                                        • Anonymous

I kind of like the current state of the mimic. It's really strong-- but only if your build is one that it can make use of. I'm playing through Elden Ring with two friends; one is doing a full-caster INT/FTH build, the other is doing a more STR/FTH build with dragon incantations. I'm the only one eschewing magic to focus on a tanky quality build, and as a result, I'm the only one who has a Mimic Tear that really delivers. My friends don't NEED a second of them doing the same stuff as them, they prefer to use like, Banished Knight Engval as for them, that gives them a more tanky, melee-focused companion to take hits and distract enemies for them. Sure, they could maybe work out a way for the mimic to be tankier, put on heavy armor and change their gear, summon it, change their gear back... But that's unnecessary and not really worth the effort, they have other options that can fulfil that same role. Mimic Tear Ash isn't automatically the best spirit ash in the game and I've seen it be a liability-- like against the Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast, where for a player who isn't already a tanky melee build, a copy of themselves (even with boosted defenses to account for NPC stupidity) will just go die without accomplishing anything.

                                                                          • Anonymous

Mimic may have been nerfed; I haven't noticed a difference with it though. Give it a healing weapon like Blasphemous blade or Butcher knife, Cameo talisman/heal on hit talisman and def. talismans and thing is a tank. Zug Zug builds seems to get the best benefit from Mimic, Casters should probably try GS soldiers, Tiche to pull aggro.

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

So to answer some questions. These obviously aren't official, but just what I've found. Keep Noted that everything listed is based off of the +10 Mimic Tear.
-At 660 HP, you cannot summon the Mimic Tear. It just won't let you.
-It's a bit difficult to tell, but if you want a rough estimate the Mimic Tear appears to have about 3.5x your base HP.
-As for damage, from what I can tell the Mimic does 62% of your damage using melee armaments. While for spells, they deal about 70% of your damage.
-The AI is hyper aggressive, and is absolutely terrible at dodging as far as I can tell.
-I have no idea if consumables eaten beforehand have any effect on the Mimic, but what I do know is that the Wondrous Physick doesn't have any effect.
-Personal Opinion: The worst build for the Mimic Tear is likely a Casting Build, while the best build would be a Tank Build. Level Vigor, give your Mimic the Great Stars weapon, and then with the Prayerful Strike Ashes of War. Since it's based off of their HP and it's percentage based, the payoff is huge. With 60 Vigor, every strike they do heals themselves for 67 HP, and Prayerful Strike heals them for nearly 2000 HP. They'll never die.

                                                                                • Anonymous

Mine suddenly decided to start preferring off hand bow to main hand katana to the point that I had to start unequipping the bow prior to summoning if I want the Mimic to actually do meaningful damage during a fight. (This despite me two handing said katana.)

                                                                                  • Anonymous

After a lot of testing, one point I haven't seen stated yet is that Mimic's weight/endurance capacity is not enhanced by the either the Godrick's Great Rune buff as I have to bring my weight down to before the Buff for Mimic to not Fat Roll (even when I am Medium Encumbered with the buffs).

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                      • Anonymous

I genuinely dont get why people are crying about the nerfs. I've only used it on malenia and maliketh (both post patch) and it absolutely anihalated them. Malenia barely got an attack of in her second phase. This thing is still stupid broken with the right build.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

Kind of wondering: Since instead of FP, the Mimic Ash uses 660 health, what would happen if you were to use it at exactly 660 health? Does it require you to have at least one extra point of health before you can use it? Or do you just die on the spot?

                                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                                            • Hey guys, this is just an opinion about Mimic for new Elden Ring players.

If you are new to soulsbourne style games, this Ash is really strong even with nerfs, and will help you out a lot.

If you are NOT NEW to souls games, I would avoid this Ash entirly, even more so with bleed builds. It is utterly disgustng how much damage it can take, and stuns it can prock. It will reduce the challenge and FUN of hard bosses almost entirly. I am by no means a good soulsbourne gamer, but I have played them all and this particular Ash is not a great 1st play through/experience Ash. I'm saying this because I already greatly regret using it on a number of hard endgame bosses and losing the very SOUL of the challenge I came for. The literal reason I love these games. :(

Again, just an opinion...but at least give it a couple good attempts without Mimic at the very least.
                                                                                              Praise the Sun lmao

                                                                                              • Anonymous

This is an over rated ash. Dung Eater is a tanking madman with a debuffing ability. Mimic is only good if you have a ton of HP and Defense.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

I feel like it is not stressed enough that the Mimic uses the same stance you do when you summon it. Use any weapon twohanded and it will too, equip a casting device before summoning and it will only cast. It doesnt change its stance. Allows you to specify its role in a fight, like a ranged dps or a support (when you have the incantations).

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Less is better with summons...give the ai more choices and it locks up. Remove the spells you don't use as ready spells and put them in situationally. Put in throwables and other items for it to use. Summon it then change out what you are wielding quickly to have a different build running. Sometimes the KISS principal is the best thing.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

If it copies your armor and weapons, what about talismans? Will it mimic my +3hp/sec from my icon greatshield, or the +2/sec from the blessed dew talisman? Does the butcher knife restore its health per hit? I want an invinci-mimic

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

Did some testing with it and here is some stuff I found out:

                                                                                                        - If you give it a bow with no arrows, it will prefer using consumables

                                                                                                        - If it has only a weapon in its left hand, it will also attack with its right fist. But if it has only a weapon in its right hand, it won`t use the left fist.

                                                                                                        - It can't use Glowstones or Rainbow Stones

                                                                                                        - It can't use Bewitching Branches

                                                                                                        - It doesn't seem able to use Grease (not sure tho)

                                                                                                        - It doesn't seem able to use healing/regeneration incantations (it can however use Damage/Resistance buffs like Golden Vow or Barrier of Gold)

                                                                                                        - Temporary buffs you have when summoning, don't apply to the tear (however it can use buffs itself if possible)

                                                                                                        • Anonymous
