Rileigh the Idle Notes & Tips
- Wields Crepus's Black-Key Crossbow and Scorpion's Stinger, which applies Scarlet Rot.
- Wears the Confessor Set, this armor is very light and thus he is weak to strong attacks that break poise.
- Can heal once using a Crimson Flask.
- Considering the use of the Scorpion's Stinger, as well as the fact that the Black-Key Bolts they use inflict Scarlet Rot, it is possible that Rileigh is related to Maleigh Marais, somehow. If so, it is also possible that Rileigh actually is Crepus, and used the moniker to distance themself from their family's negative history. This would explain why all Black-Key Bolts inflict Scarlet Rot, and not just those used by Rileigh, as "Crepus" could have created the Black-Key Bolts themself and distributed them to their subordinates. This would also explain why so few Black-Key Bolts are found in the game, as they would all have been made by one person, instead of manufactured on a large scale (which would require sharing knowledge of the poison's heretical "secret ingredient," known only by Rileigh).

until 1.10 he's never once been an issue even at level 20 but now he poses a threat as he can poise break you with a dagger, i swear his health was improved as well. it's nuts that the weakest of all human npc's has a chance to kill you

Level 75 and Starscourge Greatsword +6 shredded him, I’ve no idea what you people are doing…

whats wrong with the wall recovery camera here?! im miles away from the wall!

Probably the NPC that gives me the most trouble. Not because he's hard, but because of the effing terrain and lighting.

Such an easy boss as a Paladin build. lvl 54 right now and i just brain dead spammed holy blade and dodged some shots
- Anonymous
Night's Comet if you're an Int-based caster. Neither him, Istavan, or Juno can dodge them. You used a Cerulean Flask when they heal, and it's an easy W.

Use a whip with bleed/buff it with frost and he’s ez pz, just did at rl1/+0 weapon upgrades. Give it a shot if you’re struggling
- Anonymous
Turned him into mincemeat with 1h Pizza Cutter r2s. Turns out his poise doesn't matter much when he can't break yours.

The people complaining he's hard clearly don't use the Unga Bunga strat.

If you have Bloodhound's Fang at this point in the game ( everyone should have at this point? ), it trivialises this fight.
Dodge the initial cross attacks.
Get close enough to hit with either/both parts of Bloodhound's Finesse.
Dodge back from dagger attacks.
Don't get far enough away to trigger the crossbow attack.
Keep Bloodhound's Finesse-ing.
Dodge back/stay away to let your stamina recharge.
Don't panic when it heals... let it... you shouldn't get hit once you get this pattern down.

How is this fight hard? I have played this game over seven times now, and never struggled with this NPC fight. I see a lot of dislikes on the comments stating that this is easy, so I'm curious.

Found jumping attacks with the Scavenger's Curved Sword worked well to proc bleed at level 30.

Stormhawk Axe. ATM was level 1 upgrade, higher would be faster...
Killed after 4 AoW "Thunderstorm"
easy mode.

A great strategy for this one and a bunch of other humanoid bosses that refuse to stagger/poise break is to use Vyke's spear. It made quick work of them and if you aim the l2 attack right they will basically get damaged through the part where they're "cheating" and not breaking poise. The usually will not dodge out of it if it hits them.

Agressive combat seems to be favored against this NPC.
Run in with an attack, and Jump attacks when possible to break his poise fairly fast.
Keep close and make sure he doesn't use his Bow as it hits like a truck.

Yeah, this is a test fight to gatekeep the other missions, this guys gets granted hyperarmor multiple times per encounter, usually after landing 2-3 poise affecting attacks. He's wearing confessor armor and no shield and his weapons offer no defense whatsoever. But he will hyperarmor and get a few free actions in. If you are a ranged user this fight is easier, just time his reloads and backpeddle when he two hands his dagger. But for melee, this guy just straight up ignoring an attack chain and poise damage to just slap you with a dagger/WA or a crossbow shot if he reloaded and then went in for the two handed dagger.
Biggest pet peeve with some encounters in Souls games, AI/NPC's need to obey the same general rules as your players. If I geared a character after this guy and tried to invade an actual player and expect to pull some of this guys bullshit I would be sent back to my world in about 2 seconds.

Update: Still fighting this guy to test his bullshit. When he two hands his dagger he is granted enough hyperarmor to not get knocked down out of the air when he is spamming his jump attacks. Seeing him take a full Rock Sling mid air and the only thing that happens is he kinda teleports to the ground in standing position and just slowly walks towards you. This guy can just be crushed with enough stats/upgrades to just down his average health pool, but if you come at him with something like his build and you are around his "level", he will get more than a few bullshit kills in when he is in his "No Rules Mode".

Charged carian piercer and charged transient moonlight, fights over. Boring...yet somehow still satisfying

Despite his light armor and dagger this boss swaps from easily staggered to having infinite stagger. Note: I've tested with the best stagger breaking skills it does not matter, it is programmed to blatantly cheat and grant infinite or virtually unbreabkable poise. He NPC will simply randomly start counter attacking in a combo. Try to trade no more than once if you want to play it safe or stick to jumping attacks. As long as you are careful the NPC is very easy. It is stupid FROM has to rig their game to make it remotely challenging, though.
first attempt, level 70, using a +5 bloodhound fang, shredded him

What level do you recommend for killing him? I'm level 59. He one-hits me with crossbow. Should I respec?
- Anonymous
He literally shot me with his crossbow as I spawned in before I could move just as the spawn ended instantly killing me. That totally sucked.
- Anonymous
Why doesn't the article mention that he is likely a Confessor?

does anyone know if his armor set is available anywhere? I'm specifically interested in the chest piece.

Did part 1, and im at the spot for the sign, but wont show?

As with most NPC invaders, jumping heavy attacks trivialize the fight.
- Anonymous
this character doesn’t have to finish the reload animation to fire again with the crossbow. it’s a problem if ur running a low hp build so be careful

What is best way to kill him? I am stuck, and he is so fast with the dagger.
- Anonymous
Just use golden parry and delete him with a crit or two
