Lesser Wormface Notes & Tips

  • Has a Death Blight-inflicting ranged attack, which can be mitigated with the Prince of Death's Pustule or Prince of Death's Cyst talismans and cured using the Order Healing and Law of Regression incantations or Rejuvenating Boluses consumable.
  • The file names for the Wormfaces are Deracine_Male for the small ones, and Deracine_Female for the large ones. Deracine could come from a French word for uprooting trees, or it could mean “displaced.”
  • It is possible that these are corpses that were buried in Catacombs built around Greattree roots (back when "the roots of the Greattree were" purportedly "linked to those of the Erdtree," see the description for Root Resin), and were in the process of becoming a part of the Erdtree, but then displaced or "uprooted" by Deathroot. This would explain why they inflict Death Blight, and why they drop Sacrificial Twigs, which are rumored to have once been "pruned from the Erdtree."
  • Their stick they wield and the cloak they wear are unobtainable

They are pretty freaky, but relatively docile. You can ride around near them without them reacting to you, and even when they do, they give up the chase pretty quickly.

There is a small but potent list of enemies in this game which are purely upsetting and unpleasant in every way shape and form, and this one is high up on it.

        • Anonymous

The way I see it, Sacrificial Twig is basically the Homeward bone equivalent for getting out of Boss Fights with your runes (before the Crystal tear that does that, but You can't swap if you respawned at a stake of marika) Since it's used for getting out of encounters and not just going back to grace at any point (we can just teleport) I understand that they're rarer than Bones but like cmon you get like 9 twigs in the whole game and you can only start farming them with a 2.5% drop on an annoying enemy at a point really close to when you can get the twig crystal tear.
I'm not sure anyone even uses them for this express purpose because you can always quit out. :^(

Worthless, diseased vermin. Exterminate their kind, leave no survivors. Burn their corpses to make sure they won't spread. Execute all who aid these unholy creatures and keep them out of our reach.

            • Anonymous

Any enemy whose main form of attack involves spewing clouds of deathblight around them repeatedly, forcing you to run away and wait and wait and wait for the clouds to clear is automatically horrible and unfun to engage. I'd rather fight Giant Crows and Runebears. Why are these things even resistant to holy?

              • Anonymous

Honestly the most unsettling enemy I have encountered in over 20 years of gaming, including Cerberus from Dantes Inferno.

                • Anonymous

Why are these deathblight riddled walking corpses filled with maggots RESISTANT to holy? Aren't they totally undead, as they're influenced by Godwyn, the "PRINCE OF DEATH"? Thank you, Miyazaki, very cool.

Task: Kill the steroid-abusing lovechild of Cthulhu and a Basilisk.

                    Reward: Literal ****.

All in all a 10/10 From Soft experience, I'm not even mad.

                    • Anonymous

Definitely have died to these things a couple of times particularly when I was surrounded with them. Their vomit has a very long reach as well.

I remember death blight completely crippling my mimic tear summon on a boss one so I had to kill it by myself for the most part.

Honestly I just hate fighting them plus they are pretty gross.

                      • Anonymous

These things aren't that hard, provided you take care to avoid their death blight vomit, but good god do they scare the **** out of me.

                        • Anonymous

Someone really needs to include absorptions and resistances for "basic" enemies (or at least the ones that won't die in 3-4 hits from a standard weapon.) Often, I have to check the boss versions to get a general idea.

                          • Anonymous

I hate these things, esp in groups . I dye to them more than any other creature in the woods. Rune bears you can make a run for it or scramble to get the upperhand. But these things suck. Instant Deathblight shots all the time. They make a frigging clouds of it. Makes the frog guys seem easy as u can dodge away. But the sounds they make and ability 2 1 shot you, very tanky= my new most hated. Remind if the dragon people in DS3.

                            • Anonymous

Fire decimates these guys. One Giantsflame to the face stuns and almost one shots the ones in farum azula. I wish the wiki pages had resistance breakdown on normal mobs like there are bosses. I didn't see this listed anywhere.

                              • Anonymous

im at a point where these guys dont give me too much trouble one on one, but the noises they make cause me to completely avoid them. that chorus of laughter when you're on or near the bridge in altus will never not disturb me

                                • Anonymous

do the wormface sort of talk to themselves? I'm at writheblood ruins, I can hear something talking in a funny voice, I'm facing north east and right on the edge, I'm not making enough of it out to be able to understand what they are saying, its not the only place I've heard this chattering either.

                                  • Anonymous

it says here the "weak enemy" that turns into a wormface at mt gelmir is the lesser wormface, but I walked right into that trap, just like I did with that F**king rune bear or "leeser" rune bear or whatever in limgrave. I'm not 100% sure, but sure enough to put my money where my mouth is. there was nothing lesser about what that putrid corpse at mt gelmir turned into, it was a lot bigger than the lesser wormface you see around woodfolk ruins, it was the same size as the boss variant by the minor erdtree in altus plateau. when the putrid corpse turned, it was looming over me. I think its deathblight killed me faster than the lesser variation as well.

                                    • Anonymous

Most of them in Altus will not attack you unless you invade their personal space. Even the ones hidden along the paths will allow you to walk on by. Farum Azula's are more likely to run you down.

                                      • Anonymous

I think there's some misinformation here as immunizing Cured Meat only raises immunity. Vitality is the stat that increases resistance to deathblight.

                                        • This is the type of enemy that makes me love FromSoftware games. A ghoulish laughing monster laughing its ass off in front of a gravesite of some poor chap he killed. He goes back to the gravesite after buriel, sits down, laughs his ass off while mumbling random nothings.

                                          • Anonymous

Hard to target with spell because the targ point is so low on them. When they're not standing up you have to get right on top of them to target.

                                            • Whoever edits this, I was trying to farm some of the lesser wormfaces to see if they can drop their stick weapon, when they dropped a sacrificial twig. Looking at the drops, it seems no one documented this, but it could be really useful to know.

                                              • Anonymous

For some reason lightning spear can bring their health down from full all the way to ~1 but is unable to land a killing blow? Has anyone else experienced this?

                                                • Anonymous

These things seem to be nearly blind, so equipping the Crepus’ Vial talisman works wonders here. It’s not foolproof, but you can avoid quite a lot of aggro by using it.

                                                  • Anonymous

They need to make the clouds these guys spew a lot more visible than they are. Just lost 200k runes because these obnoxious things shoot clouds of death blight everywhere and it's often pretty hard to see where it even is. Something that kills you that quickly if you're standing in it should be made a lot more visible I think.

                                                    • Anonymous

Anyone else notice that their cloth wraps look like guardian armor? Anyway, wish you could get their weapon as a greatsword.

                                                      • Anonymous

These guys are annoying. I mean, say what you want about Basilisks, but they are squishy, have short ranged and don't deal damage outside of their death clouds.

These horrible things are not only extremely annoying due to them constantly making slurping and coughing sounds, but they are also rather tanky, can hit somewhat hard in melee and cover half the area in death worms.

                                                        • Anonymous

Just got killed by one of these with death blight. Can't get my 220k runes back as they are not at the marked location. PLEASE FIX

                                                          • Anonymous

Not sure about the Altus variant but the azula ones seem to be wrapped in a tarnished gold wrappings and seem to have what look like medallions tucked along the wraps. It makes you curious their origin

                                                            • Anonymous

They might be associated with the Man-snakes from the Volcano Manor, since they have similar body structures apart from the worm tentacles and there is a giant wormface close to the path that leads to Volcano Manor, and the region next to Volcano Manor (Altus Plateau) is the region that has most wormfaces. I wonder how they got to Farum Azula though, maybe through the teleporter traps like the one under Raya Lucaria that takes you to Volcano Manor

"Lesser Wormface may not be as large as Wormface itself but they can be found roaming around in groups around Crumbling Farum Azula."
Where does this quote come from?

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

Turn right after spawning into the Road of Iniquity. He's concealed as a random weak pleb looking at a fire. When you kill the pleb, it literally transforms into the wormface boss lol. I ran away but when I went back afterwards to see if it was still there and it def was.

                                                                            • Anonymous
