Axe of Godfrey is a Colossal Weapon in Elden Ring. The Axe of Godfrey scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for strong melee attacks.
Weapon of Godfrey, Elden Lord. It was broken in a battle fought as leader of the Tarnished during the Long March. This weapon is symbolic of Godfrey's vow to conduct himself as a lord, later becoming an emblem of the golden lineage. In the days of the past, a crown was warranted with strength.

The buffed R2 should always be the standard R2. Instead buff duration by 30 sex and make the buffed R2 a WarCry version
- Anonymous
It's cheeks, I'm not a boss with hyperarmor and 12k HP I don't have have time stand idle and yell for 3 seconds
- Anonymous
42 Strength requirement and C scaling. Ruins Greatsword has a slightly higher Strength requirement and S scaling.
- Anonymous
It takes so long to buff this, and people can just jump the AoE and jump attack you, that buff duration needs to be at least twice as long to be worth it
- Anonymous
An interesting thing i noticed: when in its' broken form it almost perfectly resembles Stormhawk Axe used by Nepheli Loux, just with a longer handle and the "beak" looking in a different direction.
I cannot tell if this is an accident or some sort of clever visual.
- Anonymous
Was testing this weapon. the two handed talisman does not seem to work when buffed with regal roar. However, the other talisman the shattered stone talisman was booting the R2 with the stomp and follow up swing. It was nasty.

How did Godfrey managed to break a weapon without any durability???
Did he went to DS2 and used it just to kill all the Belfry Gargoiles without any rings that makes durability last longer???
- Anonymous
It seems like From forgot to make different codes for one-handed and two-handed heavy attacks replaced by the AOW. Thats why the two handed talisman doesn't enhance the replaced heavys even when you two hand it, unlike the other roar type AOWs.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
the R2s should just always be like that, and the skill should be replaced with something actually cool and useful instead
- Anonymous
Not much of a good weapon, but it's certainly one of the most fun ones to use
- Anonymous
I think the intern who created the scaling for this weapon is the same one who created the scaling for the Hand of Malenia.
The axe of the strongest tarnished of its time = C scaling in STR instead of an A
The weapon of the most powerful demigod of its time = B scaling in dex instead of an A
- Anonymous
This is a quality weapon, a quality build in a souls game relies on the player levelling both dexterity and strength. Because Godfrey was as skilled as he was strong, this weapon requires A powerful, dextrous warrior for it's full potential. Despite Godfrey seeming like an unga bunga strong man, he is just violent. He clearly knows what he is doing in combat and doesn't just flail randomly for most of his attacks. So please don't complain, when you are doing pure strength, seeing C/C and then saying that the weapon sucks. That is like a full int build looking at knights lightning spear and going "This spell sucks because I have the bare minimum requirements." And anyways, quality builds are fun, try one.
- Anonymous
Do not fear the mid scaling - in the right times, this weapon absolutely DESTROYS aggressive teams in invasions. Just wait for the right time and bam, you feel like a miniboss with the AOE's.

so much fun to use i love this weapon along side the dryleaf hand arts with hoarah loux's earthshaker
Seems pretty clear from the symbology of the Golden Lineage and the design of Godfrey's Golden Shade (and all his in-game statuary) that this axe used to be double-headed but has suffered significant battle damage since its heyday. I'll go ahead and add that to the tips and notes, seems like a fun tid-bit :)
- Anonymous
Don't care if it's not busted or mediocre its badass as **** and looks way cooler than punching people with ugly spiked fists like a gremlin
- Anonymous
Having a CD scaling isn't that bad, still.
It sure could be B Str, or A Str, but the base damage is already good, and if you us e the Skill, this weapon deals with a crowd of enemies and still stunlock them while the effect is on.
Feels like this one is more of a utility Colossal Weapon, instead of a hard hitter like Giant Crusher or the Anvil Hammer.
- Anonymous
There is some weirdness going on with the way this interacts with several talismans and buffs. Here's what I found in my testing:
Highlander's Axe and Roar Medallion increase the damage of both the initial stomp and the replacement heavy and charged heavy attacks. Shard of Alexander increases the damage of the initial stomp but not the attacks. Axe Talisman and Spiked Cracked Tear increase the damage of the replacement charged heavy attacks.
As for the DLC talismans, Two-Handed Sword Talisman does not increase the damage of the replacement heavy and charged heavy attacks while two-handing the weapon. Shattered Stone Talisman increases the damage of the stomp and attack portion of the replacement heavy and charged heavy attacks but does not buff the damage of the initial stomp.

Makes sense that it's quality. It was given to him so he could appear more noble as elden lord. Instead of being a savage brute, relying on strength only,, he's more refined.

2024 and people still whining about this thing's scaling, talk to your family and build a meaningful relationship with them instead

This should have been a true strength weapon considering the huge requirement for strength. Instead it's a quality weapon. Terrible scaling
- Anonymous
This weapon is now significantly better with DLC items. Shattered stone talisman + two-handed sword talisman boost the special R2 damage and you can also throw in some Rakshasa pieces for good measure. Most important new talisman however is the blessed blue dew which allows you to keep the alternate moveset permanently.
Weapon isn’t that terrible honestly I did a ng+5 play through with it and it did reasonably well for me. It should get at least A strength scaling though it’s ridiculous that it doesn’t since it belonged to such an important character in the game.
- Anonymous
Extremely underrated weapon and was better than I thought it would be. if you want something unique and fun to use try it out.It should get at least A strength scaling since it belonged to the first elden lord….he seems kind of important you’d think his weapon would be a little bit better.
- Anonymous
The special R2s destroy turtles. The stomp breaks guard and the swing followup hits for nasty damage.
- Anonymous
I know this weapon gets a bad rep, but I just had so much fun with this weapon (PVE) and in the right circumstances it absolutely destroys and you feel like a beast. Better suited for an NG+ run and a higher level.
Talismans:
Shard of Alexander = + 15 % AoW Damage
Two handed Sword = + 15 % Damage (Also works with the altered Heavy Attacks)
Roar Medallion = + 15 % Damage for Roar Attacks
Axe Talisman = + 10 % Damage Charged Heavys
Highlandaxe in your offhand (you still can two hand Godfreys Axe) = + 10 % additional damage for roar attacks
AoW Regal Roar: you gain another 7.5 % Physical Damage for 40 Sec
Buff with:
Golden Vow = + 15 % Damage + 10 % Damage Negation
Flame grant me strength = + 20 % Damage
Flask:
Spiked Cracktear = for another 15 % Damage for your charged heavys for 3 Minutes
Oplanine Hardtear = 15 % Damage negation for 3 Minutes
Playstyle:
For smaller enemies and bosses it means complete destruction. You will send them flying in every direction with no chance to retaliate. You will dish out 6500k damage alone with the ash of war and another 11000k damage with the complete heavy sequence which you can get off together everytime. This was with 13 Scadutree Fragments in the DLC
I always found openings with bigger bosses with high poise to get of the AoW. You can trade with the charged heavys and use some guard counters at the end of the bosses attack sequences to break their poise even faster.
The only bosses i had to resort to jumping heavys, uncharged R2s and R1 were Bayle and the Final Boss of the DLC
You can also switch the axe talisman with the dragoncrest greatshield talisman to get another 20% damage negation to be even tankier in boss fights for trades.
If you want to try something different I can really recomand this build. For me it was an absolute blast.
Greetings

Heavy attack (not jumping or running, only the normal or charged heavy) from this weapon can be buffed by Shattered Stone Talisman WHILE the Regal Roar is active.
Two-handed Sword Talisman DOES NOT buff the heavy attack WHILE Regal Roar is active. Hopefully a bug that Fromsoftware will fix *copium*
- Anonymous
It looks like the weapon skill charged heavy attacks do not get buffed by the Two-Handed Sword Talisman and I can't tell if it is a bug or not. The other Roar AOW's do benefit from Two-Handed Sword Talisman so it doesn't make sense that Regal Roar should be any different.

Imagine getting Hand of Malenia and its dex scaling is as low as its str scaling
- Anonymous
The DLC dropped and the double blade restored axe of godfrey from before the long march would have been a perfect colossal, maybe even having been throwable due to it being a replica from the smiths or sth with higher weight and more strength scaling, just unfortunate
- Anonymous
I would have easily forgiven the scaling if it just had unique r2s instead of having generic r2s that get overridden by an ash of war
- Anonymous
We unfortunately really didn't get the restored full axe of godfrey, such a shame. Could have easily been a A or even S scaling strength weapon with altering combos and significantly more weight (due to the second axe part being restored)
- Anonymous
Once invaded a dude at radahn's tp that tried to turtle with fingerprint shield. Imagine his face when i showed him that godfrey's earthshakers bypasses blocking. The best shield in the game, completely useless against stomps.

DLC droped and this weapon still suck ass. still gonna use it tho since it my fav.

Godfrey is a latent quality user, the reason he says crown is warranted with strength only is because he's too ashamed to admit his dex investment.

Trash weapon. In a 80/80 quality build bloodhound fang has 939 AR with bloodloss, faster attacks, better move set, jump attack boost, MUCH better WA, lower weight, requires no effort to get and is has the drip. While this has 947 AR with the same level and the only other advantage it has is higher hyperarmore and poise damage. Bloodhound fang also has much higher AR than duelist great axe(s) and Godrick axe so there is absolutely no reason to use them over the BHF. Hopefully they get proper scaling buffs(I expect this to have an S in strength or 1200 AR on a 80/80 build)
I would give this thing A Str scaling and restore its stance damage to the standard for Colossal Weapons.
- Anonymous
Let's all be honest here, this weapon sucks. It needs to be a greataxe, and not a colossal weapon, and the weapon skill needs a major overhaul.
Not only is this thing bad for PVE, it is abysmal for PVP. Slow, heavy, and the skill is pretty much worthless.
It needs to be able to release massive shockwaves way faster, and not follow up with a lousy, easy to dodge combo. What an absolute crap weapon.
- Anonymous
With 60 STR, a Heavy Giant-Crusher has 911 AR
With 60 STR, Axe of Godfrey has 761 AR
Yeah **** it, I installed a mod that makes this S in STR
- Anonymous
Truly extraordinary weapon, one of the strongest in the game. With a right build (talismans, tears) at 55 Str/55 dex, you can erase most of the bosses with 1 or 2 full "L2 > hold R2 > hold R2" combo on NG+
- Anonymous
The engravings are similar to those on the beastman cleaver, making this a secret beast weapon. And like all beast weapons, its a quality weapon as well, reflecting both the beasts' and Godfrey's focus on the purely physical. From Soft on point with the theming as always
- Anonymous
They should’ve made the AOE/roar part of the normal charged R2, no buff, and then made the ash quickstep. The true Godfrey experience
- Anonymous
I love this weapon, but the +10 scaling is literally what the +0 scaling should be.
- Anonymous
I think this weapon is underestimated, its definitely not top 5 remembrance weapons, but at 57 strength and 45 makes me think its more towards a quality weapon rather than strength, ofc strength builds aint gonna get much on it cause they most likely have low dex and strength gets fodder at high levels,w those numbers in dex and strength i got 780 AR,not shocking but its nowhere near bad there are others who deal under 600 at full level and adequate stats, depending ofc, overall this weapons beeing slept on for the most part
A very good weapon for my 80 INT build, a fully charged r2 is dealing a whopping 43 damage to haligtree misbegotten, only the wa seems to be broken and has no effect
I hope the DLC adds weapon crafting, and we find the part where the Long March took place that Godfrey broke off and can craft "The True Axe of Godfrey" where it gets the S STR scaling this chad weapon deserves.
- Anonymous
The best colossal weapon for invasions imo. The shockwave does very good damage when it lands and the buffed R2s are the bread and butter of this weapon since the first R2 always combos. Best to have something fast and unreactable in the offhand like a dagger or estoc for the finisher because you are gonna end up with only a very few good moves and a slow and wasted colossal moveset (thanks Fromsoftware).

Haligtree knights ganking on you? Here’s the only thing you need

I decided to use this in duels and then got put against three paired great spear users in a row, they all let me use the WA as a buff and then regretted it.
10/10 would use again.

Despite having a 42 STR requirement, its a quality weapon(str/dex). Scales great with both str and dex investment. Can be used on a pure strentgh character but you get more damage with added dex
- Anonymous
Axe of Godfrey should be buff-able by Godfrey Icon, since not only because of the name, but more so about how roar attacks feel like charged specials, kinda like Dark Moon greatsword which is buffed by Godfrey icon.

Reaches only C in Strength scaling? isn't this somewhat weak for a strength based end-game weapon?

Third highest str requirement and it's only half of the axe

Strongly suggest using this with offhand weapon. If i remember correctly, your R2s deal same damage regardless if you 1h or 2h the weapon while buffed. Plus if you land R2 it true comboes into offhand weapon hit like Hand Axe or dagger of any kind, maybe fist also.
- Anonymous
Dissapointed max weapon and it has only C scaling at best thats just terrible....
How can his axe break when there is no durability in this game?!
- Anonymous
Should have been held liek halberds are so it looked mroe accurate to his boss
- Anonymous
for how long the buffing animation is, it really should last longer. whatever boss or pvp guy you're fighting probably won't be dead by the time the duration is up, and they definitely won't let you buff up again without you taking a hit or backstab
- Anonymous
have to wonder who on the dev team hates godfrey so much it bled into his armor set not only having the 3rd lowest poise of all the boss armors you can buy but it also somehow having worse defenses than the duelist set on top of his axe for some reason being a mediocre quality weapon instead of having an easy s in str along with being outclassed by most if not all other colossals with no hope for buffs on either side
For comments that it should have better scaling, well, that was probably the case before Godfrey shattered nearly half of it. A mere Tarnished would’ve never had the opportunity to wield the thing because it would’ve been impossible to survive his S scaling blows.
- Anonymous
roar medallion + axe talisman (overpower talisman combo) probably will do more damage, maybe braggart ash in a highland axe offhand with a charge r2 will be viable; roar builds ate really peculiar and insane, even offhand ash casting. Feeling saudades of LIMIT BREAKERS test vids in this game... one of the best soulslike content overall
btw, it's crab time

Unfortunately, as it currently stands, there is no reason to ever use this weapon. PvE bleed or pure faith beats it's scaling, and in PvP you can't hit anyone with it, unless they panic roll. It's just far too slow, man. Even against bosses you are going to get punished after landing a hit thanks to a slow recovery. I used it for the Elden Lord cosplay and memes, but I can say that it did not do Godfrey proud. Buff it to S scaling or just make it's recovery time faster please. It doesn't even hit that hard, and I've seen hammers with faster recovery times.
- Anonymous
This thing's Regal Roar R2's are a frame trap. I can just roar, press R2 when someone gets close and it's effectively a guaranteed hit. Only people I can't seem to cheese with this are light rollers. Might need some adjusting.

unbuffed at +10 at 80 strength and 80 Dex gets a good bit over 900 ar and shoots up to 1000 while buffed keep in mind to use roar and highland
- Anonymous
It hurts me to say this, but From f&$*$* this baby up. This should be a A scaling in Str at LEAST, and 100 plus AR. Im not even joking. This is Daddyfrey's weapon and it should be way more powerful
- Anonymous
This weapon is my baby and I will never not defend it, but dear lord, please change this scaling.
This is a thought out review of this weapon for PvE use. This is one of my favourite weapons and its definetelly not bad. With that said, it has a few noticeable negatives.
I ll start with the positives: 1. Buffed R2 is such good burst and it comes out really fast, just make sure you only tap R2 once and you dont hold it or do the follow up attack as its slow and has long recovery time 2. Similar to other roar buffs, damage of your altered R2 can be buffed with Roar medallion and Highland axe on your off hand ( you only need to have it equiped, you dont have to hold it) 3. Can do a good amount of burst AoE with the Ash of War and will throw small enemies in the air while offering really good hyper armor during the animation. 4. Really respectable damage scaling while maintaining the buff from this weapon 5. Absolutely one of the best looking weapons in the game
Now the negatives: 1. Damage falls down a cliff without the buff and altered moveset 2. The AoW takes wayyy too long to give you the buff and you will most likely lose the buff in the middle of the fight making your damage actually pathetic. 3. You literally get it from the 2nd to last boss in the game and its really not that great of a weapon vs the last fight 4. Small range for a collosal weapon, you will need to be up close with the boss to actually hit them with both the stomp and the weapon otherwise you are going to miss a good portion of your damage 5. All the inherent weakenesses of Collosal weapons apply to this weapon for every attack except the altered R2s
I think this weapon could be really good if they made it so holding the AoW caused the AoE attack ( ideally with increased radius) and tapping it applied the buff quickly. Making the follow up altered R2 better or something different could be awesome as well. I disagree that this weapon needs better scaling or more flat damage, the weapon hits really well with the buff applied to it.
- Anonymous
After using this in some arena duels as an experienced colossal weapon user, I have to say this weapon is kind of a missed opportunity and needs buffs in multiple categories. Despite that, it's honestly fun to use and the first R2 when buffed is great for catching people and has free aim potential, on top of great hyper armor.
Firstly, this weapon is really short. It is the third shortest in the colossal weapon category, which limits the effectiveness of its buffed R2s. Honestly they could literally just increase the weapon size by like 15% and at least make it mid range.
Secondly, the scaling. This really should just be a strength weapon, it makes sense practically and thematically for this to be strength. The scaling should be at least a B but honestly should be an S or A.
Third, the AoW. The main issue is the initial roar, it is really slow and easy to punish. When I see someone using it (which is rare since no one uses this weapon) I can pretty reliably punish with a jumping attack. Likewise when I've used it I get easily punished even by slow charging projectiles. The speed of that initial buff should be like 30% faster at a minimum, either that or increase the effect duration.
These changes are very unlikely to ever get made but if they did, this would be a much better weapon.

Since 1.09, the buff this weapon gives is glitched. 1-handing the weapon retains the buff, but removes the added physical damage values, basically making it a waste of FP unless you just use this weapon purely, without anything else in the offhand.
Just what this weapon needed... you can't even equip a parry shield without taking the bonus damage away.
- Anonymous
Just FYI - this thing has just 20 more AR than Crescent Moon Axe. All the while having slow AF Colossal moveset. It's only saving grace is poise on R2s. If you wanna make it more viable - use offhand Hand Axe. It true comboes with a lot of moves - R2s, R1s. I with Strength scaling was a bit higher. Also, it's a bit weird, but when compared to GreatAxes, Axe of Godfrey is just the same size. Makes me wonder why is it considered a colossal then.
- Anonymous
Looking at the Badaxe who owns this weapon, it really should be an S in Strength. Doesnt even need anything else. How is a Nightrider Glaive better than this?

It says this weapon can be buffed by magic. However when I try to use electrify armorment or any other weapon buff it didn't work. What am I missing?

I found a bug witb the Godfrey axe that should be look on
I have been testing the roar medallion and the highland axe but I believe that is it bugged on Godfrey’s Axe
Everyone knows that the roar medallion and having a highland axe increase the damage of roar attacks like Godfrey’s Axe and Starscourge Sword.
The issue is, the roar medallion works on Godfrey’s Axe ash of War AND his upgraded heavy attacks. The Highland axe only buffs the Ash of war. BUT not the upgrade heavy attacks.
I did some testing after using the AoW buff. Just using 1 upgraded in charged heavy attack after throwing a dagger so he would notice me
With the roar medallion and the highland axe, I did around 1600k dmg on a omen
With the roar medallion but without the highland axe, I did the exact same damage .
Without the roar medallion and without the highlander axe, I lost around 200 damage.
Without the roar medallion and with the high lander axe, I still lost around 200 damage.
The bug is that either the roar medallion isn’t supposed to buff Godfrey’s upgrade heavy attacks or the highlander axe is bugged and doesn’t upgrade this heavy attacks.
- Anonymous
There is a bug with the highland axe not buffing the heavy attacks of the Godfrey axe after the roar buff. It only buffs the initial AOW ash of war but not the heavy attacks like the Roar Medallion does
