Colossal Weapon Strike
Golden Land FP 16 ( - 5)
Wgt. 17.0 passive effects elden ring wiki guide 18Passive -

Great Club is a Colossal Weapon in Elden Ring. The Great Club scales primarily with Strength and is a good Weapon for dealing Physical Damage. The skill attached to this weapon also has a unique ability that unleashes a blast of energy and releases them as golden darts.

An enormous club of hardwood. Wildly hammering foes with this
striking weapon requires no dexterity; only brute force.

While it may seem sacrilegious, this weapon is said to be a withered branch of the Erdtree.
Imbued with holy power, this weapon will never snap.

17 endurance (12 + radagoons) is the minimum required to perform the full charged heavy -> charged heavy combo and then roll out of the recovery animation.

      • Anonymous

The R2 animation is so fitting for a weapon like this. All the effort goes into lifting it up, then at that point just drop it, and let the weight of the weapon do the rest.

        • Anonymous

Nice to see the Great Club finally graduated to Colossal weapon type after all the years as a Great Hammer, now he's bonking with the big dogs

          • Anonymous

Currently running a strange build with this using 54 strength and 62 faith (67 with heirloom seal or godrick's rune) on a wretch. Combining Order's Blade with this weapon and a high faith stat gives you what amounts to an incredibly strong split str/fai weapon. With my current setup the AR gets up to 1160 (790 physical, 370 holy). Of course the damage won't be 100% reflective of that because of the split damage, but for some reason it seems to send the Ash of War's damage into maximum overdrive. I don't know what interaction is doing that, but it kicks ass.

            • Anonymous

Most people are mad that it has faith scaling, and a holy aow, but me personally I'm happy because it absolutely SLAPS on a str/fai buld

              • Anonymous

not as sad as dragon greatclaw, but it's still a crime that you can't change the skill

upgrades to +25, can be buffed, and the skill ISN'T unique. its only gimmick is having elemental damage, but the clayman's harpoon has magic damage and int scaling, so that isn't an excuse. please let me put prayerful strike on this thing

                • Anonymous

I guess it really shines in NG+? Something like Str 54/Faith 80 and then adding a weapon buff. That would put the AR around 1200.

                  • Anonymous

Ok nevermind then.. I was upgrading this for my pure strength character when I noticed that it has faith scaling. It doesn't show that on the wiki image, though it does say so in the notes. I got upset because I thought I just screwed up, but I opened the EIP elden ring character planner and it's showing that if you have 99 strength and just 8 faith, the AR 1 handed is 319. If you have 99 strength and 99 faith, it is just 327. The numbers could be wrong but it's totally practical to use this without any investment into faith whatsoever. I am power stance with the giant crusher so I never planned to use the club's skill anyway. I'm just holding this till I get another giant crusher lol

                    • Anonymous

I wish the wiki had shown the faith scaling before I built an entire character around specifically this weapon, only to see it has faith scaling 8 hours into the game when I acquired it

Ahhh! Grug… in awe! Of stik! But… stik shoot out the great brightness… and it hurt grug friend. Big stik danger, brothers.

                        • Anonymous

it's a club, don't overthink it guys. you hit people with it. some stuff may be better, some stuff may be worse. numbers can only give you so much info, i main it and it works fine.

                          • Anonymous

Hits like a pool noodle in pvp. Any number of L2s are faster than a great club R1 and hit harder. You can put stormblade on anything and suddenly have all the perks of a collosal weapon with no down sides. And then the Faith scaling on this weapon is terrible so the great clubs own L2 is worse than golden land on any other weapon. The range also leaves much to be desired, you’re too slow to really pressure and if you correctly time yourself to roll catch an opponent, you’ll find you came up too short. The R2 also has negative range from what the model appears. Until a G9 enthusiast can be two shot by great hammer r1s, the class will be useless.

                            • Anonymous

Now that I noticed, it has holy damage cause intead of being from a normal tree like in the other games, it's from the erdtree lol

                              • Anonymous

If I use this with 35 strength and 80 faith, obviously actual melee damage will be very low but will golden land hit like a truck? Or is that not how ash of war scaling works?

                                • Anonymous

It’s viable and a lot of fun in pvp. But it’s very demoralizing to lose trades against great swords and any hyper armor L2. I decided to try orders blade glass cannon but I’m just a glass pistol. Worse, buffs got nerfed so there’s no longer golden land/barrier of gold synergy. For all the trouble, tree spear does more damage, more range, lighter weight, better spell synergy and allows me to wear armor… oh and max casting speed. Not like golden land is great tho it can be useful

                                  • Anonymous

Finally, I've found it, a great weapon that goes really well with the Tree Sentinel set and you can get them at around the same time. Necessary for the Tree Havel look.

"Giant tree branch serves as a wooden club. Smashes enemies from upside the head."
"The leaping attack is a trademark of clubs, and this giant club is no exception."

                                      -iykyk

                                      • Anonymous

The projectiles on the ash don’t lock in until the club hits the ground. So you have ~1sec to switch targets. It’s also great at killing dogs since you poise through their attacks and the explosion annihilates the whole pack. I mean unga bunga

                                        • This might just be me, but I think this weapon is a combination of two different yet similar recurring weapons from previous games. It's both the "Absurdly Large Primitive Bonking Stick" of the Great Club line, but it's also the "Religious Great Hammer" like Grant and Morne's Great Hammer (which also have explosive special attacks) and also potentially Bramd and the Sacred Chime Hammer which are all great hammers used by paladins or paladin-like figures from previous Souls games. That's actually something I noticed regarding the NPCs of Elden Ring, there's isn't a "religious knight" character like Garl Vinland, Leeroy, or Morne despite there being other character archetypes that made a return like the "soft spoken damsel" that is Roderika, or the "cherry yet also depressive warrior" Alexander. This is all just speculation on my part, but I thought it interesting enough to share as I hadn't seen anyone mention something similar yet.

this thing got buffed with the updates, now is just by far the best colossal weapon hammer type, i used it before patch and it was already good but now HOLY S**T it's a monster and poise break anything in 2-3 fully charged R2, due to that, most bosses are a joke with this weapon.

                                            • Anonymous

Easiest play through ever, don’t even need wonky infusions or L2, just two hand and jump attack all the way to Elden lord.

                                              • Anonymous

Hilarious that the iconic Great Club, which has been a byword for "mindless, crude brute force weapon" throughout the Souls games, is now a unique, sacred weapon with a powerful special ability, just because of the type of wood it was made from.

                                                • Anonymous

after a bit of testing, i see no evidence whatsoever that the projectiles are affected by buffing the weapon. still a wonderful weapon though.

                                                  • Anonymous

with the exception of ff seal and serpent hunter, this seems to be the only weapon with an innate (no aow equipped) scaling that it has no requirement for. obviously this is due to the post-launch addition of the faith scaling.

                                                    • Anonymous

It’s funny I tried making this thing work with Orders Blade even before this update. Always fantasized it should’ve been like Treespear :) It still loses trades to epee on the ~54/45 build this is optimal for… but this weapon with clawmark seal is the king of mixups and spell combos. Guranqs stone combos into r1 and catch flame often catches people off guard into wrath of gold or r1 roll catch. On prophet armor, the one handed r2 can poise great swords fully charged and it charges up fast. And you can chug/buff/erdtree heal under the protection of the L2. Strong synergy with holy ground in duels.

                                                      • Anonymous

Started using this after 1.09 and it’s incredible. Let me just note first of all, the charged 2h heavy combo is one of the quickest amongst larger weapons because of its unique animation, which lets you poise break rather easily, and the weapon art is absolutely fantastic. Great all around weapon, deadly close range with the capability to shoot tracking star missiles from afar that do good damage. Weapon art has three stages, you can get a hit slamming the weapon down, it does a burst of holy damage around your character, AND you can combo into a unique heavy slash, AND THEN THE STARS COMR OUT dayuuuum

                                                        • Great Club + Order's Blade = Good. Like, REALLY good. My Great Club at level 137 can reach 1127 AR and can even go as high as 1555 AR with Golden Vow, Exalted Flesh, and the Holy Cracked Tear. Patch 1.09 made this one of the best Colossal Weapons in the game.

                                                          • Anonymous

Alright I’m confused. If you can’t change the ash of war, how can you change the affinity? Am I missing something in the game? Every other smithing weapon like this is locked to standard. No? Lol. This was asked a few comments ago. Any wisdom?

                                                            • Anonymous

This weapon cannot be infused, therefore you should just have the standard version of the weapon listed. It is not possible to have a Cold infusion - for instance - when you cannot change the ash of war. The upgrade table is quite misleading as it is.

Hope this helps anyone who might have been confused.

what really sucks about this weapon now is that any infusion other than flame art or sacred completely takes away its faith scaling, making standard the only really good option for a str/fth build

                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                          • As of 1.09, now deals Holy damage in addition to Physical. As a consequence, it now scales slightly with Faith (E/D) Starts at E, switches to D at upgrade level 7. However, the Faith scaling component is a joke -- youll still want to give overwhelming priority to Strength.

To provide an example, a +25 Great Club as of Patch 1.09 deals 789 Physical and 116 Holy (combined total: 905) at 80 Str / 8 Faith. Raising Faith to 80, the holy damage goes up to 149, raising total AP to 939. That's a +34 attack power gain for the sake of a 72-point investment in Faith, or more relatively speaking, a 3.75% damage increase, before defense or negation.

Now, the quesiton is, does the Weapon Skill, Golden Land, now scale with Faith? It didn't before the patch, and the patch notes don't mention it doing so. If the answer is no, then the Faith investment in this weapon is a joke and should only be considered if you're trying to min-max every ounce of extra AP out of it.

                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                              • Anonymous

1.13 patch made this so much better. It was already uninfusable so the Faith scaling and holy damage is just a bonus and makes it feel much more cohesive of a weapon. And despite the added holy damage, you can still buff. Loving this patch. Overleveled 80 str/fth hits 991 AR two handed no buffs.
