Curved Greatswords are a type of Weapon in Elden Ring. Curved Greatswords are capable of long-reaching slash attacks, allowing users to deal a large amount of damage against enemies, but sacrifice mobility, making the wielder vulnerable to Enemy and Bosses' attacks.
Curved Greatswords are compatible with a range of different Ashes of War, allowing you to mix and match for whatever your needs may be.
Curved Greatswords all share the same light attacks except for the Zamor Curved Sword. Curved Greatswords all share the same heavy attack except for the Omen Cleaver and Magma Wyrm's Scalesword when two-handed. The Bloodhound's Fang has different Motion Values for its jumping attacks, but is not visually any different in combat.
There is no guaranteed drop for infusible Curved Greatswords in the base game. Instead, they must be farmed from various respawning enemies.
Note: Patch 1.09, speed, range, recovery time and guard counter speed of Curved Greatsword weapons has increased.
Shadow of the Erdtree, the expansion for Elden Ring, added 2 new weapon in this category, the Horned Warrior's Greatsword and Freyja's Greatsword.

Looking at the weight values of these compared to something like great hammers is really funny to me. You’re telling me these long thin blades are heavier than dense chucks of solid steel? Lmao
- Anonymous
someone for the love of god why would you ever use the strength-based curved greatswords when theyre just a direct downgrade from dex and weigh more
- Anonymous
Now that we have great katanas, I don't know why would someone use this weapon type besides the unique somber curved greatswords because right now great katanas outperforms this weapon type by far: more range, more damage, better moveset, poking attacks and more ashes of war that you can use with them.

DS1: A bit good. Starting lag is something that bother a lot, since it gives up a lot of chances to get parried, or to simply be poise broken. But once it starts, you can stunlock almost anyone.
DS2: A very decent weapon class, since there is no Regular attack anymore. This makes them to be very good, since they have a very huge Slash damage while being lighter and a bit faster than UGS.
DS3: Slash? And so? The Base and Bonus damage is so high that it always surpass Great Swords, and be a bit weaker than UGS but swings very faster. In conclusion, damage is still decent for a fast swinging heavy weapon.
ER: Thanks for easier infusions, as well as a very decent move, jump attacks, and versatility, they are still better in a lot of situations. Not so big and poise break capability, but still, the lightest heavy weapons, fastest swinging heavy weapons, and very easy to akimbo. In conclusion, very well worthy and deserves a try.

Not sure if this has been established already, but is chase down better one-handed or two? Might just be imagining it but one—handed running R1 seems to have a bit more range.
- Anonymous
After trying them all, gotta say this class is so well designed that not one on them is bad. They all serve their purpose perfectly. I don't think there's any other wep class as complete as this one.
- Anonymous
They all look fckin gorgeous, From cooked like crazy with these in this game
- Anonymous
no innate bleed infusable CGS... A sad day for occult enjoyers :c
- Anonymous
Ok I just did a full playthrough *no spoilers* through to the dlc but has anyone else noticed this weapon class has a tremendously bad turning radius? Whenever doing a charge attack it seems to lunge you forward a bit but when charging an attack while locked on and facing away it feels like the attack pulls through with the lunge but from your original standpoint thus hindering your range and making a situation where you're practically one step back... It would've really come in handy at pivotal moments to capatilize on this class's length with how agile these bosses are.

I’m at 135. I go with a well-rounded build w/o any definitive specialization such as strength or faith. I dual wield the Beastman Cleavers w/ Lightning affinity on both and two holy buff spells (Gold Vow, Sacred Order/ and during Boss fights I also drink LightShroudCrackTear& Greenburst CrystTear). I can increase my Dexterity w/ Okina mask and Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom (Erdtree’s Fav +2, Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman, and 4th is dependent upon situation, but is usually Millicent’s Prosthesis for the +5 to Dex).
Based on my Stats (V35, M18, E40, S30, D35, I18, F20, A18 before items/GreatRune after V40, M23, E45, S35, D53, I23, F25, A23) this was the best set-up I could find to give me the most damage output, and that’s before standing in water.
I get my blades to a whopping 1078 each for Attack Power.
great on paper. However, when I use the weapons arts/Wondrous physick and/or certain gear like the jump talisman, it cancels out/negates damage from one of the two blades when L1’ing/dual-wielding them. I have looked online see if anyone else has noticed this.

My favorite weapon class in each souls game. Glad to see their also getting the love they deserve in this one
- Anonymous
Bloodhound’s finesse could be used to do damage while keeping distance making it good against black knife assassins
- Anonymous
Don't count out Monk's Flameblade. It's the most stamina-efficient CGS in the game. It might not be by much, but in a high-stress scenario like invasions, I'm certain you'll be thankful for every tiny stamina point you can reserve for rolling/jumping and more.
Of course, it's also possible that every point of damage to your enemies is much more preferable in such a scenario.
- Anonymous
I just realised if you use the special of bloodhound's fang, and then quickly use heavy attack, you litteraly teleport towards enemy and deal more damage.
I still wonder if during teleportation will have immunity frame, didn't check.
- Anonymous
I was surprised to see greatswords actually do more damage than curved greatswords, i thought it was the other way around.
- Anonymous
Can someone please explain to me what the advantage of this weapon type is? I'm not being sarcastic, I've never tried these before and I genuinely want to know why people pick them.
Compared to other 2-H Poise Weapons, they're slower than Greatswords, have less damage type flexibility and miss out on Impaling Thrust. They're shorter than Halberds while being tied in speed. What advantage am I missing here?
- Anonymous
Sadly there's no reason to use anything other than BHF and Magma Wyrm, in this weapon class. Zamor CGS got cucked so hard...
- Anonymous
Pro gamer tip: If anybody is using this and they attack you with a normal attack it is hard coded into their brain to heavy attack after it, so delay those dodges or parry if you trust the connection enough.

They broke curved greatswords and it does not feel good at all. The phantom range roll catches force you to have light load or people in PvP can just spam roll catch you and then point down afterwards. The only way around this is light load, enhanced dodge rolls, or the poise to tank their r1s and trade through it. They basically turned curved greatswords into the best blender weapons in the game, because with 2-3 people with greatswords, you can be combo staggered by their r1 spam. Revert changes lol.

Speed of a hammer
Range of a scythe
Damage of colossal
Recovery of a katana
Who ever buffed these just said fk it and went all in.
- Anonymous
The additional range these things got with the 1.09 patch is just silly. It's very difficult to space these weapons now because the hitbox is notably longer than the weapon model. I'm hoping in a future patch they scale this back some, it's pretty ridiculous as it stands right now. This weapon class would still be better than most even if they brought the hitboxes back to how they were before.
- Anonymous
Just say some mothereffer with these in left hand and dagger and right fully poise stacked. Kept spamming L1 R1 with his Brian shutoff. Needless it say it was cancer to deal with.
- Anonymous
Do these have hyperarmor? Or is it just that I've only fought max poise metaslaves in the arenas?
- Anonymous
They went super overboard with the ghost hitbox. Feels like a good 50-60 cm longer than it should be.
- Anonymous
Despite how you feel about the great weapons speed in pvp things could be a whole lot worse.... *goose-stepping noises as pkcs/ccs flashbacks ensue*
- Anonymous
great, another weapon category with no recovery added to the list. everybody just mashes because they know they can't be punished on higher than average latency.

Bloodhounds fang is dang good, I did a Speedrun and killed Malenia and Godfrey with a plus 4 version

Should be able to powerstance with regular greatswords since it seems like it's the exact same dual wield moveset if I'm not mistaken.

Curved greatsworda being quicker than almost any other weapon except for daggers and shamshir xD great job fromsoftware xD Whats next patch? CGS nerf and buff to bleed, frost and madness? Quickstep buff up to 50 iframes?

12 out of last 20 duelists I went up against had Dismounter.
Not complaining. It take it over halberd+offstoc any time of a day
- Anonymous
The buff was actually a nerf at higher skill brackets and against meta set ups. The power of these weapons came from their range and mix up potential. Now they’re too fast to have useful timing mix ups. The r2 is not really a roll catch if rolling it has almost the same timing as an r1. The speed buff is only a gimmick : bad players now think it’s improved since they have collosal damage with a straight swords speed that suffocates off-meta set ups… but a meta set up with lance, epee or even claymore will easily win on range/thrust and never get roll caught even on panic rolls. And lance/epee are still the true kings of roll catch chains. Long story short, they made off meta set ups worse and meta thrust set ups are still so far ahead of everything else.

Add Sombrero smithing stone to them and they are beasts of a sword. I am use the bloodhound with +6 giving me 287 damage +153

all of these except for the beastman sword suffer from painfully mediocre scaling, making them very lackluster at 100-150 range

Is the alabaster lord sword just the same as onyx lord sword?
- Anonymous
morgotts cursed sword straight up stops most enemies from attacking just from that initial charge animation, nevermind the combined bleed and fire damage that can shred enemies like omens, banished knights, etc. that being said its the only curved greatsword ive used with any dedication. onyx sword, or as i call the STEP OFF sword, has potential and ive enjoyed the experiments ive done using it, but the weapon art is very slow to activate at first, meaning timing is of the essence in using it
- Anonymous
A lot of the time the damage isn't the greatest on these things. Damaging greases and ashes of war that apply coatings like lightning slash and flaming strike can help though.
On paper, these appear mid but they're actually underrated. First off, they're a lot longer than you think. The beastman cleaver's hitbox is just barely shorter than the kgs, which is nuts when you realize we're comparing the shortest cgs to the longest infusable gs. Second, they have insane coverage on their jump attacks, comparable to a halberd jr2. Third, while the initial hit is comparable to colossals, the follow up hits are not—which is to say they're actually useful for mixups. Lastly and most importantly, they have something so few weapons can claim... an r2 that's useful in pvp. The r2 will roll catch people if you toss it out after landing the initial r1. So put it all together and what do you get? A weapon class with insane range/coverage, with useful followups to the r1's that can be mixed up with the r2. My personal favorite chain is reverse jr1->r1->r2 roll catch->rr1 or jr1 again.
- Anonymous
They feel slower to use than other weapons because of their animations, but they're also actually pretty slow. They get high AR but it's slash damage. They also don't have much moveset variety, just the Zamor R1 which no one uses and the Butchering Knife R2.
- Anonymous
Currently this weapon class has some problems:
1. They hit slower then colossal swords.
2. On some of them damage is average at best.
3. They have almost no hyper armor.
4. They have no answer to jump attacks, flying enemies and anything in the air.

Kinda wished there was one with a thrusting heavy like the Gravelord's Greatsword. The omen cleaver would've been a good canidate for this too.

This weapon class is great for spellblade builds. CGSs onehanded moveset is fantastic, poise damage is great and it has wide swings and good reach.
- Anonymous
Is it still the case like in DS3 where one-handing CGS has better reach than two-handing it?
- Anonymous
Yall that are saying that Curved Greatswords don't hit hard need to try Bloodhound Fang.
- Anonymous
This might not be the most powerful weapon class,(albeit still quite strong) but these weapons are so satisfying to use. They have really slick attack animations when used, and I find their attack sound to accompany that slickness perfectly.

the AoW got hyper armor. tested on the rotten axe gladiator in the snow fields
- Anonymous
CGS got super nerfed.. In Ds3 they had the same dmg output as ultra greatswords, now they do as much as regular greatswords. Phantom limb pain
- Anonymous
Since we seem to be thinking about what swords we want in the game, I want another Arced Sword. oversized pirate sword which would fit nicely with a ship to explore.
- Anonymous
this weapon class would be even better if rolling attacks (and now crouching attacks) with an R2 did the second R2 input. why did From have to remove that from ds3? the second charged R2 in elden ring would have been amazing if rolling R2s were still a thing
- Anonymous
you are all complaining about the lack of murakumo while im here not getting that sweet stab r2 CGS since darksouls 1, why micheal zaki i beg you please to add gravelord sword or smth similar in dlc

Why does the only dex CGS have to be so ugly, with all str CGS requiring a ton of dex
- Anonymous
The Cgs animation might seem slow but it is the exact same speed as the normal great sword with higher stagger damage. Why does no one talk about these?
- Anonymous
It's a shame they need and scale so much with strength. Strength already has a bunch of weapons and curved swords should logically be the dexterity analogue. Ugh.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
anyone else feel like curved gs are kinda mid? like, outside of like two they don't offer enough. they have the speed of ugs with the poise damage of a gs, and largely only a single damage type and mostly middling damage. feel like they should've been given a wider niche. them being so slow is especially bad since it makes fights drag on as you can't hit unstaggerable enemies more than once usually.
- Anonymous
patch 1.05 farmed this for 60 kills on the Stormveil Liftside Chamber Omen with no drop. Likely the drop rate from this omen is <4% or it doesn't drop

There is not a single Pure Dex Curved Greatsword in Elden Ring. What a big letdown, considering how badass Murakumo was in Dark Souls trilogy. Hope they will at least add one in future DLCs.
- Anonymous
For an early game power stance curved greatsword build you can easily obtain Bloodhounds Fang and Dismounter from Limgrave. To meet requirements early use Radagons Scarseal and Starscourge Emblem. Jump L1's are great early boss quick kills.

not sure where to put it, but - in the little bottom menu box on each individual curved greatsword, the forked greatsword and helphen's steeple, both greatswords, are included.
- Anonymous
I'm surprised that they don't have the flip feint that the regular curved swords have :(
- Anonymous
Very deceiving hitbox on most of these which makes them quite good in pvp.
- Anonymous
No Murakumo? All the infusible ones seem to be much better in Str builds
These have the same poise damage as Greatswords. In my opinion, curved greatswords should do greataxe-tier poise damage.
Hell, in ds3 they did the same poise damage as ultra greatswords.
- Anonymous
So boring and ugly. Same moveset on all these weapons except the Zamor.

Curved greatsword guide:
Dismounter: light, great scaling with most infusions
Omen: slightly better ar, and unlabeled "punch" makes it not bounce off shields and rock people.
Beastmans cleaver: remember Exiled from ds3? That but JUST heavy scaling. Makes it great for str/ any...
All the others work in related builds, bloodhounds is easy early bleed, but one min to reach the bloody slice makes it a Mute point. Cool weapon art.
I'm assuming the others pull their weight (pun intended onyx) wyrm is hot.
Haven't used zamor or monks fireblade... now that I look I have used margits either. Hmm.
- Anonymous
Just need monk and beastman then I will have them all foooooor curved greatswords. hahaha whyyyyyyyyyy
- Anonymous
Each individual Curved GS page lists "Forked Greatsword" as "Elden Ring Curved Greatswords" which is false.
- Anonymous
I wish some of these had A scaling for DEX with Keen affinity.
I don't think it would be OP becouse they all have high STR reiquirement, so you can't just pump DEX and forget about other stats.
- Anonymous
It's a shame that From never had any forward-curving blades outside of the shotel and Server from Dark Souls. With the new horseback combatants, I'd hoped we'd get some hook weapons for dismounting foes.
- Anonymous
The ones of these I tried are very effective, almost any of them seem like they could easily carry you through the game, great stagger and stun damage. Only problem for me is, their moveset is super boring. R2 is barely any different from their r1, jumping r1 is literally the same as their r1, same for backstep r1. Jumping r2 and rolling r1 are good tthough the rolling r1 is a bit slow. Idk, every move feels like a wide slash, super effective but not the most interesting imo.
- Anonymous
Surprisingly nimble and versatile, along with good damage and reach.
- Anonymous
I've only checked this visually, but I believe the order of longest to shortest reach is (don't have beastmans)...
Morgotts
bloodhounds
dismounter
onyx lord
omen cleaver
magma wyrm
monks
zamor

There's no curved greatsword with a guaranteed location/drop that can be infused with ashes of war? Kept expecting to find one and finally had to look it up.

If looking for running a dualweild curved greatsword build, go for Bloodhound + Magma wyrm. I'm using it the whole game, and deal about 1800 damage per swing.
I run lvl 150 at 50 vigor, 60 dex, 50 strength, 28 Endurance and 28 Faith. (starting levels included so i put 10 less poitns into each of those and wear the soreseal for another +5 in vigor strength and dex).
