Hammer Talisman Notes & Tips

  • Sell value: runes currency elden ring wiki guide 18 500
  • Has no effect on general stance-breaking; only works against shield blocks.
  • Note: Patch 1.07 increased the effect from +20% to +40%.
  • The description may be a nested callback to the Ivory Warrior Ring from Dark Souls 2, having the same utility, and then again to the identical-to-that Knight Slayer's Ring in Dark Souls 3. Its carrier, Knight Slayer Tsorig, had an enormous bludgeon-sword that excelled at crushing through shield blocks of the players he invaded.

Actually pretty useful against the sword and shield crucible knights if you're crap at parrying like I am

      • Anonymous

Extremely niche and next to useless. In PvE if an enemy is using a shield just roll behind and backstab them. In PvP most people don't really use shields anyway besides meme fingerprint shield builds though I've encountered a grand total of ONE of those after countless hours of playing invasions/colosseums and I still won that fight without this lol

if I get it right, this thing just rise the amount of stamina that enemy blocking with a shield take, it doesn't affect posture just deplete his stamina which will make him open his arms a back up and you have a chance to attack him while he's not blocking.. considering how many enemies are blocking with shield, I'd say this thing is not worth of farming unless you're stuck in Castle Sol for a long time... right? ok there are knights everywhere but still... doesn't seem like this talisman is useful.. just situational like Price of death pustule?

            For those who need it.
Use the Ashe of war KICK with this to obliterate shields.
You can also unarm your weapons/shields to use kick with L2. Then switch back to your weapon.
This allows you to make almost all blockers a joke.

I have had a few ways of breaking past shield guys
Godfrey axe for the dum ones
Power stance for Those that can doge and incants to mess them up and it’s only now did I think to use this in my power stance set up

              • Anonymous

As of now the only use for this is for extremely circumstantial PVE scenarios and against annoying fingerprint shield abusers in PVP. So... not much. It's been stated but simply making this 15-20% for stance damage and 40% against blockers would make this a phenomenal item for both PVE and PVP. IT'S NOT LIKE YOU CAN STANCEBREAK ENEMY PLAYERS SO WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Beat the invader but they never dropped this on my first play through… now they just never invaded on NG+ at all even though I went straight there…

                  • Anonymous

Kinda wish this just boosted poise damage in general by 10% (or like 5% in pvp) so it could be more useful in PVE, but alas.

After 999:99 hours of playing, I just now found out this was in the game. By accident. (I got invaded when I got near the arena.)

                      • Anonymous

40% geez lol talk about overkill. I wish they simply nerfed shield poking instead of all blocking. Guard countering with weapons is now useless in pvp. Now I just parry instead of blocking, chip damage and chance to one shot or gain initiative with no risk of guard break. Costs only 3fp with golden parry

Managed to get invaded in my world, only boss left for me to do in the starting area is Death Bird and the Fringefolk Hero's Grave. Already defeated both Margit and Godrick.
Very easy to kill him with storm stomp.

I think gaining access to Volcano Manor also stops this guy from invading. Godrick is still alive in my current playthrough yet I'm still not getting invaded.

Can't get him to spawn... On NG+, trying to gain all talismans. I'm really bummed, people seem to really enjoy this talisman.. guess I just have to pray he'll appear for me on NG+2..

Endure with this on a mace means no more finger print. Have a back up weapon to roll catch if they start retreating. I use miscericorde running r2s to roll catch and crit, but there are much better options for when the shield user realizes he has to roll away.

Should have made you ignore a percentage of their guard boost, rather than just boosting the stamina damage afterwards

                                  • Anonymous

does it work against 100 guard boost? if not then, i guess preventing your weapon from bouncing is not bad

I wonder if this could be a secret Crucible Knight killer, shame I won't find out since the invader doesn't seem to spawn consistently anymore. I had an easier time getting the Misbetton/Crucible Knight duo to spawn in Redmane Castle than finding a way to fight this chump.

Good against knights I guess. Do any actual bosses even use shields?

Maybe if shields are ever meta in pvp this will see some use.

When the physick flask is used with a stonebarb cracked tear it is marked by a hammer talisman icon which makes me think that this talisman could secretly be adding additional posture damage to attacks, but equipping this would more than likely be a placebo. Not sure how you could reliably test it

                                          • Anonymous

Nifty talisman but unlike Stone Ring in DS2, it doesn't see as much application. It's effective against guards with shields but most enemies in Elden Ring are giant monsters. In PvP most players are running Magic or Faith because Melee is underpowered unless you are using Bleed and Bleed doesn't need this since no shield stops Bleed buildup. It's not entirely worthless though. You can use this in the early game for the guards with Brass Shields I suppose. That's really about it though.

Guys. Read all the comments on this one. There is zero consistency to the reports of why he does or does not show up. Some people were here early, before Margit (like me) and he doesn’t show, others after Radahn and he shows up just fine. What this IS consistent with is Henricus’ spawn trigger being bugged somehow. As the only reason a character stopped invading for me was by killing the actual character (bye Varre). Every other invasion happens right on air except this one. Look up this guy on any forum and it seems pretty clear something is wrong, as he’s the only one that does this. Compound that with all the glitches that are being found every day and I think it’s safe to say it’s nothing you guys did, From just needs to fix this, like so many other little things in this game.

Still it’s a shame it’s linked to a talisman, so maybe if you go into ng+ and get 2 of these, be generous and help some poor souls out who cannot get it right now.

Question is, does Hammer Talisman stack with Stonebarb Cracked Tear? If so my gosh will 2 handing collosal weapons be even better stagger machines.

                                                • Anonymous

Started new game, the only thing I did, was purchase of all Bernahls weapon arts (located directly south of his invasion area). My guess is that because bernahl is a recusant himself later on, there is some interaction there. Maybe just exhausting Bernahls dialogue while he is in warmasters shack and then coming here is the trigger. Or buying his stuff

                                                  • Anonymous

This is an amazing talisman it adds a ton of poise damage and stagger to even small weapons, think stone ring in dark souls II. I consider this mandatory on anything thats not a big weapon.

                                                    • Anonymous

This talisman is very useful for duel wielding weapons with weak poise damage, like daggers or curved swords. About 2-3 light attacks usually staggers big enemies in PvM and you can just keep swinging after a block in PvP.

                                                      • Anonymous

The talisman icon is the seems the same as the Stonebarb Cracked Tear, which is used to break enemy stances in general (without them blocking), it might be worth looking into if this actually helps break the stances of enemies who don't have shields.

                                                        • Anonymous

I've been using this with my Lordsworn Greatsword and it stamina breaks most normal shield-bearing enemies after 1 hit, allowing me to follow up with a second attack that generally outright kills them.

                                                          • Anonymous

Useless Talisman from a Useless NPC. there is no way you're gonna use this since in PVP also against NPC you will never ever see someone use a shield blocking mofo. and even if they do they will mostly use it to parry or deal damage. It's also useless against Mobs too since their stamina is not their stagger bar for most mobs. and most importantly The NPC invader is inconsistent af. I have 2 account both have the same progression but only 1 has been invaded so far.

                                                            • Anonymous

it works in such a way that your weapon, with the exceptions in the description, ignores the enemy's shield to a large extent if it is covered, your attack, despite the enemy's cover, is strong and passes.
