Seppuku

sepukku gif elden ring wiki guide
A forbidden technique used by swordsmen from the Land of Reeds. Plunge the blade into your stomach to stain it with blood. Increases attack power and improves ability to inflict blood loss.

Seppuku is a Skill in Elden Ring. Seppuku is a regular skill that can be found in Ashes of War. It can be used on Swords as well as polearms capable of thrusting (small and colossal weapons excepted). Updated to Patch 1.07.

How to get Seppuku in Elden Ring

  • The Ash of War: Seppuku grants the Blood affinity and Seppuku skill where you plunge the blade into your stomach to stain it with blood, this will increase your attack power and improve the ability to inflict blood loss.
  • Ash of War: Seppuku - On the frozen lake, east of the "Freezing Lake" site of grace, dropped by an invisible scarab. Scarab can be heard on the edge of the lake. Stand on his trail and wait for it to come back around and greet it with attacks.

Someone messed up. In the “How to get” section instead of telling you how to get it some dunce just wrote about what it does and its benefits in a paragraph before actually explaining how to get it like the header implies.

      • Anonymous

Do the effects still apply when you switch weapon?

I’m running duel Eleonora’s Poleblades, and want an off-hand weapon to do Seppuku before a boss fight.

        • Man, they really gutted this thing. You lose ~200 more health on use at meta levels as well as losing 54 Bleed which even on a dedicated Arcane build will never reach similar values, you'll at best make up half the amount it had before by comparison with 80 Arcane because of how terrible the scaling is. Just completely nerfed into oblivion, which is honestly a damn shame. I am not saying the nerfs were unjustified, what I am saying is that the nerfs where complete overkill and could definitely be redone in a way to make it better to use without it becoming broken.

          • Anonymous

Readers please note that added bleed scales with Arcane, addition to 30. This page doesn't communicate that very well and includes no supporting data. Scaling on arcane weapons for bleed (and poison) is primary influenced on levels 25-45 and substantial scaling gains are seen on each point of arcane added from 25-45.
I am using this on my occult uchi with 40 arc. Really adds an extra kick that the weapon needs and takes it from good to great. Self-damage is a big deterrent. I like to use it with Taker's Cameo in PvE. Hard to pull off in PvP because it's punishable. But, considering occult weapon's are entirely unbuffable, except for poison mist, this skill allows an arcane build to maximize their blood buildup, add damage to their weapon and, if one desires, activate a talisman buff as well.

            • Anonymous

Feel like because of the high self damage and decreased base bleed the duration should have been increased to 90 seconds.

              • Anonymous

Can anyone explain the "30 base bleed build-up that scales with Arcane" part? Like what would the added bleed be with 99 Arcane?

                • Anonymous

This ash is arguably better than it was before after the “nerf”. You have to actually commit to arcane to get the bleed from scaling, instead of just mindlessly pressing a button and getting 90 bleed buildup.

                  • Anonymous

30 blood buildup is the same as a grease, though you can't normally grease blood weapons to take advantage of the arc scaling for more buildup, which is where seppuku shines. flamberge, uchi, and scav swords are also fantastic candidates for this buff

                    • Anonymous

30 physical damage and 30 bleed. Just delete it from the game at this point lmao

                      Typical Fromsoft "balancing".

                      • Anonymous

Does this need some more nerfing? I heard it would still do some buildup on occult affinity naturally scaling bleed weapons. Maybe just add 30 buildup but prevent it from scaling?

                        • Anonymous

Lots of people forget that this also adds a decent chunk of flat damage, which often times can make up for the damage lost by bleed/occult infusing the weapon

                          • Anonymous

Just now started using it,apparently its been nerfed but I've gone 23 games as of writing this and proced bleed in 2 hits sometimes one on my secret bleed build. One guy I hit twice and bled twice pretty insane.

                            • Anonymous

Nerfed to the fiery depths of hell like it deserves. Still a good choise for poison and occult infusions since you cant blood grease those.

                              • Anonymous

Quick question. Does the extra bleed only apply to the weapon the arte is on? I'm trying to find a way of buffing a weapon while using war cry ect.

                                • Anonymous

Jesus Christ, this skill is pathetic now, you're better off using a blood grease and leave it at that, I really don't like the way that from nerfs to the ground everything that's remotely fun, happy for you pvp folks, but for us PVE players is an absolute annoyance

                                  • Anonymous

For bleed builds, is this still worth using if you go for Bleeed Affinity instead of Occult? Or maybe off hand is bleed affinity Seppuku. Main hand is Occult with innate bleed and Bloodflame Blade / Blood Grease?

                                    • Anonymous

With the nerfs, Seppuku is still really good in arcane builds, but absolutely useless in everything else. Before you could get some use out of it in some builds, particularly in PvE. Now you are better off just using blood grease since it adds the same buildup without HP or FP cost.

                                      • Anonymous

Now wondering by how much seppuku got nerfed in 1.07. Less bleed added and more damage taken by the user.

                                        • Anonymous

bleed aint the issue, this is the issue. to make a stupid good blood build you really need to dump arcane.... unless you use this ash and then you can just gather insane amounts of bleed for free. its dumb, from pls fix

                                          • Anonymous

"Adds 30 flat Attack Power and 84 Bleed Buildup" so you mean to tell me someone could use this with an uchi at level one and get a bleed build up of 129 x2 if powerstancing, so 258 bleed build up. Which is just really insanely balanced.

Now, dual scavengers curved swords, which hit 4 times on a running attack would be 516. - about 40% (I think, probably wrong) from the motion value debuff which is 309%. Whatever it is, it's enough to bleed low robustness: IE, low level, in one running attack.

Now imagine, my little video gamers, if you will. You are invading at level 50. You have your cute little halberd and offrot, you're off to do a bit of shenanigans. Because you're so low level you can't afford to wear heavy armour and still have a vigor of 40, so you sacrifice endurance. You're probably wearing a hybrid poise-fashion set.

You spawn into castle sol (how did they get here at such low level) you run out through the gates and then you see them. Three absolute, total video gamers. All of them wearing raptors black feathers with the white mask. At once, each Gamer shoves their first scavangers curved sword into their stomach. Your own stomach drops. You feel terror, you are frozen in place. Then, their next scavangers curved sword. You are looking at three running attacks that deal 300 bleed each, and you have a robustness of 150.

In a panic you swap to your bloodhound step rapier and try to get away, maybe hide behind the lion's at the gate, maybe you can wait out the buff, but it's no use. They cut through all the enemies with a chain of jump attacks. You run, try to go up the stars, but you missclick. You make a single mistake, and pivot slightly to the left, which puts you in jump attack range.

the first one hits you with only two swings of his right scavenger. It doesn't bleed you, but it stuns you. The second one jump attacks as well, this one fully connects, bleeding you twice in one jump attack. The stun from the bleed leaves you helpless as the final video gamer jump attacks, and bleeds you twice more. You die, your carefully calculated 1650 vigor reduced to zero in one stunlocking attack chain.

As your body falls, you are teabagged by all three.

                                            Elden Ring.

So the tips say that Seppuku gives 118 Bleed Buildup with 80 Arcane using a Blood weapon. How much does it increase with an Occult weapon that has better Arcane scaling?

                                              • Anonymous

Why isn't there a unique death animation for killing yourself with this? Currently, it awkwardly cuts to the standard standing death animation, which looks choppy and is otherwise just super disappointing. Not nearly as cool as Sir Alonne's alternative death animation.

                                                • Anonymous

the amount of bleed buildup added should depend on weapon class, just like how bleed infusion works. right now its way too good on light weapons and ok on bigger weapons

                                                  • Anonymous

I think this COULD be fun to play around in PvP if it wasn't so prevalently used with powerstancing. By itself, I'd say its very well balanced. With two bleed weapons that use multihit attacks is where it feels overtuned. I enjoy seeing status effects in Elden be something that you can actually build around for once outside of super gimmicky builds, I don't want to see any of them become useless or too niche because they are fun to use finally. Hopefully they find a nice balance that keeps it strong, but not instant bleed levels

me watching the first step ganker run across the entire map just so they can safely reapply sepoopoo on their double antspurs

                                                      • Anonymous

Brutally overpowered. This skill singlehandly makes ANY thrusting weapon viable and weapons that do not have the seppuku option are less viable, namely almost all large weapons. They have no equivalent to this AoW. And Cragblade? Don't make me laugh! A flat 10% to damage and stagger only, while Seppuku enables bleeding proc on a single strike.

Buff Cragblade out the ass or nervous this to high heaven

Invader shows up in a tomb, me and the host in a hallway I used this on my powerstanced iron greatswords, invader starts to cast a rot breath, I charge them, the moment before it goes off I smack them and one shot them with an instant bleed proc + 1000 ar. Call me scuzzy if you want but I still enjoy the fact that some invader likely spiked their controller.

                                                          • Anonymous

They need to buff Cragblade by a lot because this just blows it out of the water. If built correctly, this will basically double your blood loss buildup for a minute and give you 32% more damage for 20 seconds. The fact that this exists and hasn’t been nerfed yet is a testament to how ridiculously underpowered Cragblade is.

                                                            • Been on a quest to find the most ridiculous weapons to put this on just so I can comically impale myself with something that should break all my ribs and spine. Lance, night's cavalry glaive, and forked Greatsword are the strongest contenders so far.

                                                              • Anonymous

So I was wondering how good would this be on a frost katana? And the answer is: Basically rob but somewhat balanced(?)

                                                                • If staining something with blood is all it takes to make it inflict bleed, then shouldn't you be able to just bash someone's head with a club and then make things bleed with it?

                                                                  • Anonymous

Should've been Katana only with Wakizashi as a janky option.

I crutch on this so hard on a damn Halberd and it's a total meme popping instant 1k hits.

Sure it's more balanced than RoB and INT builds but even then it feels mega disgusting.

                                                                    • Anonymous

Make this usable on colossal swords, but it does a ridiculous amount of damage to you when you use it, like half your health. Total glass cannon.

                                                                      • Anonymous

I found something odd. When you do this skill when you don't have FP, you take twice the damage than you usually would. You don't get the buff though.

                                                                        • Anonymous

This thing's self damage needs to scale with the weapon you use. Sure, if you shank yourself with a dagger I don't expect much, a hundredish damage is reasonable. But if you shove a sword, let alone a SPEAR, through your entire body, and especially if you do it twice, you should be on the verge of death.

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

Question--- It says it boosts bleed buildup to 118 on a Blood weapon with 80 Arcane. Does this mean that it scales off the weapon's arcane stat? Since Occult weapons gain anywhere from a B to an A scaling, compared to Blood's regular D scaling, would you see far more than 118 added based on scaling? Some weapons come with inherent bleed and can gain Occult infusions to see considerably boosts to the weapons bleed buildup at 80 Arcane, just never more than Blood. But if Seppuku scales off the weapon's scaling, then I could see more AR AND bleed buildup from Occult than Blood, since Occ gets considerably more AR out of Arc and the added bleed scaling on Seppuku would match or surpass the naturally high bleed on Blood.

                                                                              • Anonymous

Weird they didn't make it to where Seppuku makes you take full bleed damage (like Bloodlust in DS3) doing that would actually make Seppuku somewhat balanced. Classic FromSoftware balance.

                                                                                • Anonymous

80 arcane on 2 +25 Bloody Godskin Peelers with Seppuku on both can basically inflict 518 build up with a single jump powerstance attack. prime example that makes you wonder if they playtested Arcane buffs and didn't realize the oversight on how bloodloss objectively became better than any thing else by comparison

                                                                                  • Anonymous

the amount of bloodloss this can add is what makes powerstancing the Godskin Peelers so terrifying. They start with 141 and this adds up to 118, so that would be 2 weapons with 259 bloodloss build up, one single jump attack increases a funny 518 blood loss simultaneously, instant blood loss and at times probably gonna kill you instantly. I've run into it so many times and used it myself. With the Lord's blood and the White mask and the power of golden vow, all it takes is that single jump powerstance to kill

                                                                                    • Anonymous

Mainly because Str/Arc builds could use the boost (they’re far behind Dex/Arc) but also because stabbing yourself with the Guts Greatsword is an hilarious sight to behold.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

They should also show the char sh!t themselves when stabbed. It would be a nice visualization of their actual PVP Skills.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

For those fearful, I am no Rivers of Blood build, just a casual friendly Reduvia build

                                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                                              • Anonymous

This REALLY shouldn't be usable on Bleed infused weapons. Bleed/Frost stun duration nerf was a step in the right direction but this still needs to be addressed, you shouldn't be instagibbed because that guy with Scavenger Curved Swords landed a running attack or jumping attack on you. At the very least, a nerf to the duration of the buff is in order to help curb the issue with people applying the buff to 2 weapons at the same time.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

It's time for you to let'er rip

Rough numbers here. But me and a random on LFG did a few tests. At a B scaling on an Occult Cross-Naginata +25, it seems this Ash added about 77 Bleed. Which is actuallly quite low. With such a high base scaling one would expect this to add more but from our estimates, it did about 80% of 226 Robustness. That's around 180 bleed per hit, which is quite a lot, it's still no where near what people are stating it does.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous
