Seppuku |

A forbidden technique used by swordsmen from the Land of Reeds. Plunge the blade into your stomach to stain it with blood. Increases attack power and improves ability to inflict blood loss.
|
Seppuku is a Skill in Elden Ring. Seppuku is a regular skill that can be found in Ashes of War. It can be used on Swords as well as polearms capable of thrusting (small and colossal weapons excepted). Updated to Patch 1.07.
How to get Seppuku in Elden Ring
- The Ash of War: Seppuku grants the Blood affinity and Seppuku skill where you plunge the blade into your stomach to stain it with blood, this will increase your attack power and improve the ability to inflict blood loss.
- Ash of War: Seppuku - On the frozen lake, east of the "Freezing Lake" site of grace, dropped by an invisible scarab. Scarab can be heard on the edge of the lake. Stand on his trail and wait for it to come back around and greet it with attacks.

30 physical damage and 30 bleed. Just delete it from the game at this point lmao
Typical Fromsoft "balancing".
- Anonymous
Does this need some more nerfing? I heard it would still do some buildup on occult affinity naturally scaling bleed weapons. Maybe just add 30 buildup but prevent it from scaling?
- Anonymous
So how does this work now? 30 physical damage + 30 bleed that scales with arcane? Or just 30 bleed?
- Anonymous

- Anonymous
Lots of people forget that this also adds a decent chunk of flat damage, which often times can make up for the damage lost by bleed/occult infusing the weapon
- Anonymous
Just now started using it,apparently its been nerfed but I've gone 23 games as of writing this and proced bleed in 2 hits sometimes one on my secret bleed build. One guy I hit twice and bled twice pretty insane.
- Anonymous
Nerfed to the fiery depths of hell like it deserves. Still a good choise for poison and occult infusions since you cant blood grease those.
- Anonymous
Quick question. Does the extra bleed only apply to the weapon the arte is on? I'm trying to find a way of buffing a weapon while using war cry ect.
- Anonymous
Jesus Christ, this skill is pathetic now, you're better off using a blood grease and leave it at that, I really don't like the way that from nerfs to the ground everything that's remotely fun, happy for you pvp folks, but for us PVE players is an absolute annoyance

still worth using on a dedicated arcane build, just no longer blood loss 3 times in half a second good
“30 bleed build-up to the user's weapon instead of 84 build-up“ Rip bozo.
- Anonymous
For bleed builds, is this still worth using if you go for Bleeed Affinity instead of Occult? Or maybe off hand is bleed affinity Seppuku. Main hand is Occult with innate bleed and Bloodflame Blade / Blood Grease?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
With the nerfs, Seppuku is still really good in arcane builds, but absolutely useless in everything else. Before you could get some use out of it in some builds, particularly in PvE. Now you are better off just using blood grease since it adds the same buildup without HP or FP cost.
- Anonymous
Came here to give my condolences. RIP seppuku. You were, if nothing else, a pain in the gut
- Anonymous
Now wondering by how much seppuku got nerfed in 1.07. Less bleed added and more damage taken by the user.
- Anonymous
bleed aint the issue, this is the issue. to make a stupid good blood build you really need to dump arcane.... unless you use this ash and then you can just gather insane amounts of bleed for free. its dumb, from pls fix

"Adds 30 flat Attack Power and 84 Bleed Buildup" so you mean to tell me someone could use this with an uchi at level one and get a bleed build up of 129 x2 if powerstancing, so 258 bleed build up. Which is just really insanely balanced.
Now, dual scavengers curved swords, which hit 4 times on a running attack would be 516. - about 40% (I think, probably wrong) from the motion value debuff which is 309%. Whatever it is, it's enough to bleed low robustness: IE, low level, in one running attack.
Now imagine, my little video gamers, if you will. You are invading at level 50. You have your cute little halberd and offrot, you're off to do a bit of shenanigans. Because you're so low level you can't afford to wear heavy armour and still have a vigor of 40, so you sacrifice endurance. You're probably wearing a hybrid poise-fashion set.
You spawn into castle sol (how did they get here at such low level) you run out through the gates and then you see them. Three absolute, total video gamers. All of them wearing raptors black feathers with the white mask. At once, each Gamer shoves their first scavangers curved sword into their stomach. Your own stomach drops. You feel terror, you are frozen in place. Then, their next scavangers curved sword. You are looking at three running attacks that deal 300 bleed each, and you have a robustness of 150.
In a panic you swap to your bloodhound step rapier and try to get away, maybe hide behind the lion's at the gate, maybe you can wait out the buff, but it's no use. They cut through all the enemies with a chain of jump attacks. You run, try to go up the stars, but you missclick. You make a single mistake, and pivot slightly to the left, which puts you in jump attack range.
the first one hits you with only two swings of his right scavenger. It doesn't bleed you, but it stuns you. The second one jump attacks as well, this one fully connects, bleeding you twice in one jump attack. The stun from the bleed leaves you helpless as the final video gamer jump attacks, and bleeds you twice more. You die, your carefully calculated 1650 vigor reduced to zero in one stunlocking attack chain.
As your body falls, you are teabagged by all three.

So the tips say that Seppuku gives 118 Bleed Buildup with 80 Arcane using a Blood weapon. How much does it increase with an Occult weapon that has better Arcane scaling?
- Anonymous
Why isn't there a unique death animation for killing yourself with this? Currently, it awkwardly cuts to the standard standing death animation, which looks choppy and is otherwise just super disappointing. Not nearly as cool as Sir Alonne's alternative death animation.
- Anonymous
I want this to be optional on daggers so I can seppuku with my wakizashi when my host dies.
- Anonymous
the amount of bleed buildup added should depend on weapon class, just like how bleed infusion works. right now its way too good on light weapons and ok on bigger weapons
- Anonymous
I think this COULD be fun to play around in PvP if it wasn't so prevalently used with powerstancing. By itself, I'd say its very well balanced. With two bleed weapons that use multihit attacks is where it feels overtuned. I enjoy seeing status effects in Elden be something that you can actually build around for once outside of super gimmicky builds, I don't want to see any of them become useless or too niche because they are fun to use finally. Hopefully they find a nice balance that keeps it strong, but not instant bleed levels
- Anonymous
make it 30% of your max hp on usage, then i'll be cool with it being as stupid as it is
Is Seppuku considered a weapon buff? If not, can I stack Bloodflame blade incantation on top of it?
- Anonymous
me watching the first step ganker run across the entire map just so they can safely reapply sepoopoo on their double antspurs
- Anonymous
Brutally overpowered. This skill singlehandly makes ANY thrusting weapon viable and weapons that do not have the seppuku option are less viable, namely almost all large weapons. They have no equivalent to this AoW. And Cragblade? Don't make me laugh! A flat 10% to damage and stagger only, while Seppuku enables bleeding proc on a single strike.
Buff Cragblade out the ass or nervous this to high heaven
- Anonymous
Invader shows up in a tomb, me and the host in a hallway I used this on my powerstanced iron greatswords, invader starts to cast a rot breath, I charge them, the moment before it goes off I smack them and one shot them with an instant bleed proc + 1000 ar. Call me scuzzy if you want but I still enjoy the fact that some invader likely spiked their controller.

seppuku mfs when i employ the high iq tactic of walking away
- Anonymous
They need to buff Cragblade by a lot because this just blows it out of the water. If built correctly, this will basically double your blood loss buildup for a minute and give you 32% more damage for 20 seconds. The fact that this exists and hasn’t been nerfed yet is a testament to how ridiculously underpowered Cragblade is.
Been on a quest to find the most ridiculous weapons to put this on just so I can comically impale myself with something that should break all my ribs and spine. Lance, night's cavalry glaive, and forked Greatsword are the strongest contenders so far.

Dont heal after using this in a Duel. Seen to many people doing this. Except incantation heal, incantation heal is okay.
- Anonymous
So I was wondering how good would this be on a frost katana? And the answer is: Basically rob but somewhat balanced(?)
occult bleed is bugged you get a lot more bleed with occult than blood affinity for some reason when you use the skill
- Anonymous
If staining something with blood is all it takes to make it inflict bleed, then shouldn't you be able to just bash someone's head with a club and then make things bleed with it?

Asof patch 1.05, no weapon buffs can be applied to the pulley crossbow anymore.
- Anonymous
Should've been Katana only with Wakizashi as a janky option.
I crutch on this so hard on a damn Halberd and it's a total meme popping instant 1k hits.
Sure it's more balanced than RoB and INT builds but even then it feels mega disgusting.

- Anonymous
Make this usable on colossal swords, but it does a ridiculous amount of damage to you when you use it, like half your health. Total glass cannon.
- Anonymous
I found something odd. When you do this skill when you don't have FP, you take twice the damage than you usually would. You don't get the buff though.
- Anonymous
Don't have a weapon equiped with Seppuku and then summon Mimic Tear. He will just spam the L2 animation the entire fight and not attack.
- Anonymous
This thing's self damage needs to scale with the weapon you use. Sure, if you shank yourself with a dagger I don't expect much, a hundredish damage is reasonable. But if you shove a sword, let alone a SPEAR, through your entire body, and especially if you do it twice, you should be on the verge of death.
- Anonymous
They can keep the offensive boosts. Just reduce all damage negation and max hp of the caster for balance purpose.
- Anonymous
Question--- It says it boosts bleed buildup to 118 on a Blood weapon with 80 Arcane. Does this mean that it scales off the weapon's arcane stat? Since Occult weapons gain anywhere from a B to an A scaling, compared to Blood's regular D scaling, would you see far more than 118 added based on scaling? Some weapons come with inherent bleed and can gain Occult infusions to see considerably boosts to the weapons bleed buildup at 80 Arcane, just never more than Blood. But if Seppuku scales off the weapon's scaling, then I could see more AR AND bleed buildup from Occult than Blood, since Occ gets considerably more AR out of Arc and the added bleed scaling on Seppuku would match or surpass the naturally high bleed on Blood.

Of all the things that need a nerf this is the biggest culprit
- Anonymous
Wish there was some way for me to utilize this with my spiked cestus
- Anonymous
Dose anyone know how many lost ashes of war you need to duplicate seppuku?
- Anonymous
Weird they didn't make it to where Seppuku makes you take full bleed damage (like Bloodlust in DS3) doing that would actually make Seppuku somewhat balanced. Classic FromSoftware balance.

80 arcane on 2 +25 Bloody Godskin Peelers with Seppuku on both can basically inflict 518 build up with a single jump powerstance attack. prime example that makes you wonder if they playtested Arcane buffs and didn't realize the oversight on how bloodloss objectively became better than any thing else by comparison
- Anonymous
the amount of bloodloss this can add is what makes powerstancing the Godskin Peelers so terrifying. They start with 141 and this adds up to 118, so that would be 2 weapons with 259 bloodloss build up, one single jump attack increases a funny 518 blood loss simultaneously, instant blood loss and at times probably gonna kill you instantly. I've run into it so many times and used it myself. With the Lord's blood and the White mask and the power of golden vow, all it takes is that single jump powerstance to kill
- Anonymous
This needs to be made usable in Colossal Swords, too. Mainly because Str/Arc builds could use the boost (they’re far behind Dex/Arc) but also because stabbing yourself with the Guts Greatsword is an hilarious sight to behold.
- Anonymous
They should also show the char sh!t themselves when stabbed. It would be a nice visualization of their actual PVP Skills.
- Anonymous
Okay, so if you are wielding another bleed weapon in your other hand, is it buffed as well?
For those fearful, I am no Rivers of Blood build, just a casual friendly Reduvia build
- Anonymous
How much arcane do you need for 100 Blood loss? isn't 118 overkill at 80?
- Anonymous
Neat way to fix this imo is if they use the white mask with this, it will do 100% of their hp upon stabbing themselves.
- Anonymous
weird interaction with deathbed dress and this is that you get 2 damage per tick after you seppuku and don't when you take it off
- Anonymous
If someone uses this in a duel, I'm gonna attack them mid animation
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
This REALLY shouldn't be usable on Bleed infused weapons. Bleed/Frost stun duration nerf was a step in the right direction but this still needs to be addressed, you shouldn't be instagibbed because that guy with Scavenger Curved Swords landed a running attack or jumping attack on you. At the very least, a nerf to the duration of the buff is in order to help curb the issue with people applying the buff to 2 weapons at the same time.

This thing triggers Lord of Blood Exultation, giving you free 20% damage buff.

Rough numbers here. But me and a random on LFG did a few tests. At a B scaling on an Occult Cross-Naginata +25, it seems this Ash added about 77 Bleed. Which is actuallly quite low. With such a high base scaling one would expect this to add more but from our estimates, it did about 80% of 226 Robustness. That's around 180 bleed per hit, which is quite a lot, it's still no where near what people are stating it does.
- Anonymous
People ask for realistic graphics, but imagine how weird would be to make this animation ina realistic way
- Anonymous
People don't actually believe this is balanced, right? If you're using this, you're 100% being carried by it. Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong, but I know you'll just hit the thumbs down and put it out of your mind. You know who you are.
- Anonymous
when used, it seems to increase the damage of whatever you use in your right hand. I think someone can confirm it?.
I think uar this and when you cast an enchantment you receive 20% of the buff I think with the weapon arts (weapons like vyke's spear or blasphemous sword) it works very well

How I calculate how much bleed seppuku adds
Scaling for Arcane:
No arc scaling on weapon = 1x bleed increase
E = 50%-60% / 1.5x-1.6x bleed increase
D = 60%-70% / 1.6x-1.7x bleed increase
C = 70%-80% / 1.7x-1.8x bleed increase
B = 80%-90% / 1.8x-1.9x bleed increase
A = 90%-100% / 1.9x-2x bleed increase
Then add 90 bleed to what you already have.
(x*scaling) + 90 = total bleed
x = the bleed on the weapon (works even if you don’t have any arc scaling and bleed to start with)
Example: i have 45 bleed and no arcane scaling
(45*1) + 90 = 135 total bleed.
I have 80 bleed and B arcane scaling
(80*1.85) + 90 = 238 total bleed (I chose 1.85 since its in the middle of 1.8 and 1.9).
I have no bleed and no arcane scaling
(0*1) + 90 = 90 total bleed
I have no bleed but I have D arcane scaling
(0*1.65) + 90 = 90 total bleed
Hope this helps and correct me if I’m wrong!

So I've been running this on my powerstanced twinblades, and I just did a test comparing Bleed affinity to Occult affinity on them at +18 (testing both affinities on both Godskin Stitcher and Twinned Knight Swords) with 50 Arcane. On the knight at the top of the stairs on the main avenue of Leyndell (straight out the Fortified Manor front doors), the Bleed affinity proc'd blood loss off the first hit of the 2nd R1 attack (3rd hit overall) on both weapons, and off the second hit of the 2nd R1 attack (4th hit overall) with Occult affinity. With 50 Arcane and Bleed affinity these weapons at +18 have D scaling in Arcane and 121 innate bleed, and with Occult affinity have B scaling and 0 innate.
So at least at this point, Occult doesn't seem to improve the Seppuku bleed buff enough to provide more than the 121 innate, if it does improve the buff at all.

I dont get if its intended or a bug, but when I used this skill near a minor erdtree in the Consecrated Snowfields, I got hit by 1 damage every second until it ran out, shaking my screen and controller. Funny enough, when my mimic tear used it as well, I started getting hit by 1 damage while just standing next to him.
- Anonymous
If you use this in duels, don't heal after. Even with the damage it's still broken
- Anonymous
The numbers, man! Give me the numbers!
How much is the attack increase? How much does the blood build up increase? I shouldn’t need to scour through the comments to figure this out!
- Anonymous
Try using this, and then the Holy Ground art of war for shields. The results are quite funny.
Which makes sense thinking about it since if you seppuku, you have died, but you're still walking, so that has to mean you're undead.
- Anonymous
I switch between two bleed builds
1. 2x Grave Scythe (+25 , +24) w/ Blood - Don't allow seppuku, so it's bloodhounde step, and Royal knight resolve
2. 2x Nagakibas (+25 , +25) w/ Blood - ash of war seppuku on both
I get 170 bleed buildup on each Grave Scythe, so each attack is 340 bleeds with each L1 attack.
Now with the Naga's (115 bleed buildup on each) I can invoke Seppuku on both, which correct me if I'm wrong is +90 bleed per naga - so a total of 230 + 180 = 410 blood buildup per L1 with naga's.
The nagas do less normal damage but are faster while the GS's are high damage but slow and can't use seppuku.
Which build is better? The naga's?

After doing a better test, Seppuku adds "90 bleed" to the weapon, which is then modified by it's arcane scaling.
I tested seppuku with 9 arcane, 50 arcane, and 80 arcane. I used 3 weapons, and counted the number of hits to bleed the dragon (around 700 resistance).
Cleanrot Sword +0 (occult scaling C, blood scaling D)
Rogier's Rapier +18 (occult scaling B, blood scaling D)
Banished Knight Halberd +25 (occult scaling A, blood scaling D)
- With standard infusions, they all did 90 buildup at all 3 arcane levels (8 hits to bleed)
- With blood infusions, they did slightly more buildup with more arcane
- With occult infusions, the bleed buildup skyrocketed with higher arcane, based on the scaling (half the number of hits at 50/80 for Rogier's and the halberd)
Seppuku is not affected by your arcane stat alone, the weapon level, the weapon type, or the weapon damage.
With high arcane, an occult infused weapon with innate bleed has an absurd amount of buildup. At 80 arcane with a B scaling, it seems to nearly double the innate bleed. On an Occult Flamberge +25 with seppuku applied, this would be (55+90)*2 which is around 290 buildup per swing.
- Anonymous
Does anyone know if the blood loss from this activates the damage buff of the phantom great rune on enemies when invading with Mohg's Great Rune active?
- Anonymous
So this ash just adds bleed value to a weapon ? How about an occult ushigatana with 80 bleed, does it gain 90 more for a 170 total or its value just becomes 90 instead of 80 ?
30 blood buildup is the same as a grease, though you can't normally grease blood weapons to take advantage of the arc scaling for more buildup, which is where seppuku shines. flamberge, uchi, and scav swords are also fantastic candidates for this buff
