Elden Ring Carian Retaliation Guide, Notes & Tips

  • This is an Ash of War Skill, associated with the Ash of War: Carian Retaliation.
  • FP Cost: 8
    • Only costs FP when successfully parrying a spell (not a physical attack).
  • Carian Retaliation has 4 start-up frames and 6 parry frames at 30 FPS. Double the values for data at 60 FPS.
  • Creates a blue field in front of your shield. If a magical projectile enters this field, it's absorbed and converted into a glintblade arch above your head. Parrying a regular attack costs no FP, while parrying a magical projectile costs 8 FP.
  • Works on your own projectiles as well, such as the ones from Glintstone Scrap or Wraith-Calling Bell.
  • The glintblades' damage is affected by the affinity and upgrade level of the shield.
  • See Parrying for detailed information on the mechanic and a comparison of different parry skills.

Click below for Carian Retaliation recovery frame data. Note that left-hand attacks are only possible after parrying with a shield if you're holding that shield in your right hand.

"The glintblades' damage is affected by the affinity and upgrade level of the shield." - this is no longer true. Since patch 1.04, they do fixed damage (of around 150 per glintblade, so 450 for all three, I believe). Neither shield upgrade level, affinity, or the player's specs (such as INT level) affect their damage now.

ds2/3- have shields that can spell parry ingrained in them from the get-go

elden ring- lmao find it buy it and dupe it

You are able to parry godskins blackflame with it so you can kill them with it if you bait them to throw it

          • So...how horrible of a person am I for wanting to play through the game with two bucklers in my off hand, and put this on one then Golden Parry on the other?

'The glintblades' damage is affected by the affinity and upgrade level of the shield.'
The affinity part does not seem to be true from my testing, unless they all just happen to be scaling to exactly the same amount of damage on my particular shield. Probably best to just stick to standard affinity for the stability, unless you really hate mages of the blue and holy variety like me then go for magic affinity.

I have been on the recieving end of this invading. I am not complaining, use whatever you want since I am invading you. Not supposed to be fair anyway. But then I am also gonna use it to Parry spell spam and kill the summons. I can't deal with spell spam so this is my go to glitch or not. I will never self proc.

to avoid the exploit, play past 9pm on a weekday. the kids have school so they'll be in bed and you won't have to worry about this

Is it fair play if I pull this out against gankers and parry their spell instead of bugging it out with mine?

                    • Anonymous

I found a Bug with Carian Retaliation. If you are under the effect of Rallying Standard from Commander's Standard's weapon art. Carian Retaliation will deal no damage. I don't really know how to report bug but if anyone interested enough can you guys report it?

absurdly broken, at 70 int with a +20 magic carian knight shield, i could easily chunk malenia for whole quarters of her health in ng off of a self-proc

"In the western part of Liurnia is the Temple Quarter Grace Site. Directly to the northwest of it is a small island surrounded by flying beetles upon which is a beetle that drops this particular Ash of War. One can get to this location with little to no fighting of enemies, particularly if they skip past Stormveil Castle."

No, it just dropped a somber smithing stone.

Fun fact : this scales off your shield damage. On a shield with good scaling for your class, this can literally one shot any other player. Stupid broken for PvP idk why I don't see anyone use it

Is there any reason to use a regular parry over this once you get it? Other than the slightly annoying particle and sound effects, anyway.
