Set free the remnants of Destined Death, plunging the greatsword into the ground to summon a myriad of blades. In addition to dealing immediate damage, this attack reduces the enemy's maximum HP and continues to wear down HP for a short time.

Destined Death is a Skill in Elden Ring. Destined Death allows the user to create a myriad of blades, to deal damage. Updated to Patch 1.07.

How to get Destined Death in Elden Ring

Elden Ring Destined Death Guide

  • This is a Unique Skill
  • FP Cost: 40
  • This Skill is not Chargeable
  • This Skill cannot be Parried
    • This Skill can be Parried if performed with no Focus
  • When triggered, the weapon art causes the user to do a right-to-left horizontal slash (hitbox 1), after which the blade is stabbed into the ground (hitbox 2), which then releases the blade vortex after a brief delay (hitbox 3).
  • Reduces enemy max HP by 10% for 45 seconds.
  • Deals 17 stance damage.
  • Saps enemy HP by 0.1000000015% + 1 HP per tick with a 0.1000000015 tick rate for 2 seconds. This equals out to 2% + 20 HP being taken from the enemy.
  • Damage scales with weapon AR and deals split physical and holy damage. The amount of physical and holy damage depends on stat investment, with Faith increasing Holy damage and Strength and Dexterity increasing physical damage.
  • Debuff stacks with either Black Blade incantation OR Blade of Death but NOT both. See Buffs and Debuffs for more information on stacking debuffs.
  • Destined Death does trigger Winged Sword Insignia, Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, Millicent's Prosthesis and Thorny Cracked Tear.

Note: This Skill was changed with Patch 1.07 as follows:

  • Motion speed has been increased.
  • Duration of the effect that reduces maximum HP has been extended.

need a destined death katana in the dlc with an ash that mimics sekiro's one mind combat art. please miyazaki-san, do it for all the weebs and vergil chuds we need this

      • Anonymous

One of the best counters to ash of war meta weapon spammers. Like that dumb spinning slash stunlock ash of war where people try to kill you with the bleed status. Making it the next 1.0 rivers of blood spamming meta weapon in pvp.

        • Anonymous

what is the max hp reduction even for? the first two hits usually do enough to take 10% away, and most bosses aren't likely to heal.

          • Anonymous

the ash of war does a LOT of damage but its really slow to do. and the boss/enemy will have a lot of time to attack you.

            • Anonymous

The debuffs don't really outside of PvE. Like why is this damage considered "badass" when any form of damage would still reduce your health regardless?

              • Anonymous

Question. why does the destined death weapon art/ash of war of this, not grand after it's aoe, also a temporary buff on it's weapon. That would work simular as the black flame blade incantation buff. (Except instead of it being black flame it is destined death on the weapon for like 30 seconds) seriously?

I mean maliketh does the destined death status effect on every hit, aswel as the baleful shadow, when you help ranni. Yet after you obtaining this weapon can't do the same unless it's the weapon art/ash of war aeo.

                • Anonymous

This + black flame pillars +fire Scorpion talisman+ shard of Alexander =6k damage to bosses and enemies that get stunlocked in the flames and your sword.

(Also despite the weapon dealing holy damage, to increase the damage you use fire instead of holy i have tested it. Even on the black knife it does more damge if you use fire Scorpion. )

                  • Anonymous

Tiche, Maliketh(his soul gives 2 ways of inflicting it) and Black knife are all sources of destined death. Black knife and tiche can be gotten far earlier tho.

I kind of wish this was a two part weapon art like square off and night-and-flame stance. You press L2 to prep the next input, R2 for the vortex that’s the current WA, R1 for the wave of light that’s the incantation. That would probably be way too OP, but I just thought it would be cool.

Say "resistant to holy" again! Say, "resistant to holy", again! I dare you, i double dare you mothafcka, say that one more goddamn time!

Despite what the wiki says Destined Death's debuff does NOT appear to stack with the Black Knives' Blade of Death, just tested this. It does stack with the Black Blade spell, however.

                          • Anonymous

After doing 360 slash with sword, player should have an option to either roll away or do a followup by thrusting sword into ground and causing AoE. Just the way Marais Exec Sword WA works. This would instantly improve this weapon's WA.

                            • Finally made Strfth build... does this **** stop projectiles? The whirly thing, third part of Ash of War. I used it while fighting Black Blade in front of Gurranq, and when it did the backstep + vertical slice wave, the projectile got destroyed by it. I'm still not sure whether it was just terrain issue, and it stopped on some small random rock in front of me, or did it actually eat the projectile.

of course, like all remembrance weapons, execpt for the sacred relic sword, this weapons does pitiful damage when you wield, it but when maliketh wields it you get annihilated.

Love this WA. Surprisingly effective again gank squads in PVP. Usually kills summons and sometimes even hosts if they're twinking. Just be sure you're nice and close so they'll get caught by at least one of the hits.

                                  • Anonymous

Has anyone found out if this WA can be parried with Blasphemous Claw? (i probably won't need the information for anything since i don't play PVP, but it'd be fun to know)

                                    • Anonymous

This weapon skill, despite dealing holy damage, is surprisingly effective vs Elden Beast. That sap HP mechanic really helps when it's HP is overinflated due to 2 summons and conservative pure physical weapons just tickle him.

"Destined Death does NOT trigger Winged Sword Insignia, Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, Millicent's Prosthesis or Thorny Cracked Tear." Is wrong. I tested it with rotten winged and used the weapon art, and got an AR increase. I dunno about the other Talimsnas or the cracked tear, but it´s probably the same, but needs further testing

                                        • Anonymous

Using this in NG+ on 1.07 and for some reason the ash of war is not active. My character now does a front flip slam. Not sure what is causing this

                                          • Anonymous

This should be a 20 FP/15 FP double cast with the horizontal/vertical attack being the first part and the multi-slice being the second. As it is, if you whiff this at all in PvP it's incredibly punishable by any spell in the game due to how much time you're locked in the animation.

                                            • Anonymous

Damage on this WA is quite low until you get Maliketh's upgraded to max, and have enough invested into faith. Caught three players in it as a RL70 +5 during an invasion, and including the max % HP reduction it maybe did 1/3rd to 1/4th of their HP at most.

                                              • Anonymous

With 50 str, 32 faith, and a +6 Upgrade Level in PvP, this of course reduced the max HP of enemies somewhat decently, but that's essentially all it did really. Otherwise the damage was really low. Would not consider it for lower level PvP.

                                                • Anonymous

Since Destined Death, according to the lore, is supposed to end the rebirth cycle of anyone in the Lands Between, I think it would be a pretty cool option to be able to make Destined Death permanently remove any enemies killed in the overworld with it during any playthrough of NG+ and onward. (But just a toggle option). That would be really cool/helpful and accurate to the lore.

                                                  • Anonymous

I beat Maliketh a day or two ago but I'm not sure what to do with the remembrance. His black blade is a nice looking sword and the incantation looks pretty sweet as well. If they were anything other than holy damage I'd get one of Enia. The point is can remebrances be traded?

                                                    • Anonymous

"Destined Death does NOT trigger Winged Sword Insignia, Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, Millicent's Prosthesis or Thorny Cracked Tear."
Sure? Yesterday I did some tests and had different numbers with and without it.

                                                      • Anonymous

I just tried (dunno if its a bug a bugfix or a nerf) to stack Blade of Death and Destined Death and they DIDN'T STACK the max hp debuff. I still didn't try Black Blade and Destined Death but i guess those too work since you did the build around it

                                                        • Anonymous

What is the point of the debuff if any kind of damage reduces a health bar anyways? Not every boss can heal

                                                          • Anonymous

Whoever wrote that it doesn't stack with the Black Blade Incantation was incorrect. All three "black blade" debuffs can stack with each other, but 2 stacks per enemy is the max amount.

Can anyone confirm if the weapon art scales only with faith or if it scales with both faith and strength?
