How to get Thunderbolt in Elden Ring
- The Ash of War is dropped by a Teardrop Scarab in Leyndell, Royal Capital. From the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace, head down the stairs and pass through the gate, follow the railings on the left side up to the sleeping Commoner, from which the Teardrop Scarab should be visible down below.
- Cannot be obtained after defeating Maliketh, the Black Blade.
Elden Ring Thunderbolt Guide, Notes & Tips
- This is an Ash of War Skill, associated with the Ash of War: Thunderbolt.
- Like all Lightning Ashes or War, this attack scales with ONLY the dex scaling of your weapon, meaning that in some cases, you can get higher damage out of this ability by infusing it onto a Keen weapon with A-S dex scaling, than with the relatively low dex scaling of Lightning infusion weapons.
- FP Cost: 10
- Deals 5 stance damage
- This Skill cannot be Parried

Great ash of war, except for the fact that if literally anything (boxes, enemies, the ****ing camera panning thru something, or even the ridgeline of stairs) get in the line of sight, then the goddamn thing will not target correctly. Instead, it will just hit right in front of you. ****ing trash interaction FS, but otherwise I like it.

Does anyone know if the AoW buffs the weapon with lightning damage

I love when I’m beating guys in pvp, they just run away and start spamming this. Usually only happens when they are losing too.

Always remember- you're the only one who's justified for using it. It's okay that you did 600 damage per shot! Your opponent only took that much damage because they weren't skilled, or something. But it's still not fair when someone else uses it.

Apparently this scales with weapon AR also.
Try keen banished knights GS

Wish Lightning scaled with Fath or dex instead of either.
Makes Lightning themed builds much more limited.
Fire has a workaround, with the Fire infusion and Flame Art Infusion.
Holy is decidedly not Lightning.

Nothing more satisfying than killing a sweet lord on low HP scurrying his inventory to find a Blue-Feathered Branchsword or some regen items in duels with this. Get pikachued MF.

I would fix it by removing its scaling. It does a solid 250 dmg on a medium weapon with heavy or sacred infusion etc... There is no reason for this to do 400 to 600 dmg on keen.

for the life of me I cannot explain why this is in the game. literally just honed bolt but no stat requirement

When you want to be a age but forgot to level faith or intelligence.

An excellent tool to keep in your back pocket on a dagger.
It doesn't make the Chiming Sound that Honed Bolt does so it great for picking of Passive Players in Duels when they're low health and or trying to bait to Poke.

and this is faster than honed bolt on max cast speed because why?

Annoying that ashes of War like this and ice spear are faster, stronger, cheaper and more spammable than the majority of spells or incantations with next to no investment

A solid case for why hard switching should be restricted durring battle (when music plays)
On its own, it’s a spammable ranged harass that has its weak points, if you fight close. However I see people hard switching to a weapon with this when an opponent is low health and it’s speed when coupled with the instant switch is more obnoxious than even Moonveil.
I wouldn’t call for nerfs, but having hard switching in this context makes it way better than it is.

This needs a nerf ASAP. Not just for damage, but because of phantom range. In Pvp this thing is invisible half the time and if the ping is off just a little bit it roll catches itself. Good Pve broken Pvp

Ive been thinking about throwing this on a keen dagger and using it for ranged damage instead of my pulley crossbow. It has better tracking despite its limited range, weighs less and might do more damage. Unfortunately my use of a parry shield in the offhand would make this harder to use in a pinch because id have to 2 hand or cycle it away.
I use the crossbow for shutting down mages and colossal users, pinning people with sleep bolts to set up waterfowl dance, sniping people before they chug, punishing whiffs. Its just too good to put down. This ash of war is very good but not versatile enough for my playstyle. God help you if you invade and find a gank spamming it though.

Scales off of weapon level like other ashes of war, it can do se nasty damage if you use it right

Works great for the dragonflies
