Elden Ring Barrage Guide, Notes & Tips
- This is an Ash of War Skill, associated with the Ash of War: Barrage.
- This Skill is not Chargeable
- FP Cost: 0 on activation (stance), 2 per shot.
- On activation, the user assumes a stance, preparing the bow. When inputting light or heavy attacks, the user quickly shoots the respective arrow from their slots, consuming FP (and stamina while in combat).
- When the stance is being held, stamina regen is reduced by approximately 80%.
- When the stance is held, the user can still move at a slower pace.
- Provides a 33% damage penalty per shot, compared to normal shots (at same range), in exchange for a higher fire rate (approximately 150% faster shooting speed compared to normal shots).
- The falloff distance from arrows remains mostly the same, unless very large distances are taken into account.
- Stamina consumption is the same as normal shots.
- The status buildup from arrows also receive a slight penalty per shot when using this skill.
- However, the faster shooting speed renders this penalty mostly irrelevant.
- If used without FP:
- The damage penalty is higher (75% less damage compared to a normal shot).

its a shame that renallas cameo (talisman that increases dmg when in stance for a while) is not triggered by this stance..

I do not even bother proccing status ailments with this skill. It should not take around 20 shots or more to trigger, versus just firing with R1 (especially while jumping or rolling). That being said, I found using Stormwing Bone Arrows or Lightningbone Arrows to be surprisingly decent DPS, and it is even better with Rancor Shot from the Bone Bow whwee I can 90% land my shots (bonus for headshots on lockable big boi heads).

Successive/consecutive attack buffs wouldn't be triggered by this skill, right?

I don't know how much this reduces status application by, but the damage reduction means you're doing the same DPS with or without using this Ash, but using it drastically increases ammo consumption, stamina consumption, drains FP and makes it harder to dodge.
I know people typically use this for status application. But without knowing the exact numbers, it's easy to assume it's just as bad for that. I haven't tried extensively testing it, but it feels like a pretty heavy reduction in practice.

Much, much worse for purposes of processing poison than just an R1 with a shortbow.
R1 usually procs in less than five shots while Barrage uses almost half of my Serpent arrows to proc once.

I seem to have an issue with this ash of war. Whenever I try to fire of the barrages shots, my character does the "Can't use this item" animation and no shots are fired. How should I fix this?

Barrage is a gem and truly one of the meanest skills in the game if you know how to use it efficiently. It’s almost painfully slow to fire a bow at normal speed after barraging mounted or perched enemies down in quick succession time after time. If only you could use it mounted

This is remarkably bad. You get to fire quickly in exchange for… slowing your movement, consuming FP on every shot and doing half as much damage or status buildup. This basically just wastes all your resources

Black bow has this as well. This bow also has a shortbow moveset, so you can fire right after dodging
