Elden Ring Flame of the Redmanes Guide, Notes & Tips

  • This is an Ash of War Skill, associated with the Ash of War: Flame of the Redmanes.
  • FP Cost: 14 on use.
  • This Skill is not Chargeable
  • Upon activation, the user briefly raises their hands before bursting out a fan of flames in front of them.
    • The flames from this skill will spread out and grow wider as it travels
    • While not a long range attack, the flames can still cover a pretty significant distance
  • This skill deals 40 damage to Stance, capable of stunning many large enemies in 2 hits.
    • With repeated uses, stunning most enemies and bosses in the game becomes trivial.
  • Scales with Strength and weapon level.
  • It's wide spread and high stagger is effective against flying enemies like giant bats and warhawks. Mind the cast time.

This is ass in PVP, which is the only place nerfs should be put in place. Taking away people's ability to smash bosses with intended game mechanics is petty.

      • Anonymous

no requirements, any weapon, obtainable immediately. found this on a second playthrough and just stunned at the strength of this thing. pair with misercorde for the closest thing to an easy mode

        • Anonymous

"It seems to scale only with the weapon AR."

I dont think so: for me it seems to scale with the strength scaling of the weapon, at least strongly modified by it, because (60 str / 60 fth build) I got more dmg out of it with a heavy affinity, than with a flame affinity. Tried several weapons.

          • Anonymous

This trivializes boss fights needs a nerf badly just as much as rivers of blood did do it now before it ruins more experiences

            • Anonymous

I killed the omen king first try with a miséricorde +14 and this ash of war, use margit shackle, then 2 woosh woosh, critical hit, 2 woosh woosh, critical hit, drink when you need, I just got damaged when he phased transition, otherwise yes I didn't see much of the moveset. So op. It would be nice to have something in between having a sh*t weapon that tickle bosses (at level 1) and this lol. When it's your first rl1 you might want to try several weapons but the most important bell bearings are AFTER this boss....

              • Anonymous

Way overdue for a nerf. FotR makes beating some of the toughest enemies and bosses in the game child's play, and definitely makes me feel like the rightful Elden Lord.

                • Anonymous

I threw this on my misericorde and buckler build. anything i'm having a hard time parrying, gets the flamey stagger and then a doink.

                  • Anonymous

Does anyone know if using Flame Grant Me Strength incantation with this Ashes would further improve the Fire damage?

                    • Anonymous

Even if they resist the fire damage you deal with this, if they are a staggerable enemy, it will still break their stance. Tried it on Man serpents that are immune to fire damage and it still broke their stance.

                      • Anonymous

Just so you know, Square Off's heavy version also deals 40 stance damage. What makes this skill infinitely better in my opinion is its range and spammability. A banished knight in Stormveil will be stance broken in two hits from this or square off, but you'll have such an easier time with two of these than two square offs.

                        • Anonymous

This is the most powerful weapon skill in the game in my opinion, and even as a sorcerer I find many enemies, and even many bosses, easiest to fight using this skill instead of sorcery.

But anyway, for those wondering how strength affects it, I did some testing with two characters that both have a +16 misericorde. With a strength of 12, the skill typically did 505 damage. With a strength of 53, it typically did 650 damage. So while strength increases damage a bit, you do NOT need high strength to utilize this ability even if you just want it for AoE fire damage. Also strength had no apparent effect on poise damage, which of course is the raison d'etre of this skill.

                          • Anonymous

As good as this skill is it has to be said it will NOT beat every boss in the game. Additionally to boss resistances it is totally useless against bosses on a horse bc they are way too fast and just jump over it and don't get hit by it at all. So Night Cavalry, Tree Sentinels, Loretta etc. are unbeatable without having a plan B using some other stuff. Just saying.

                            • Anonymous

This thing is just bananas. It may be the most powerful Ash in the game. It's ability to stagger is so good its broken. Most bosses are staggered in 2-4 casts, you can cast it pretty quickly and it doesn't even use much FP. Not to mention the flames themselves do decent damage on their own. Combining this with the Dagger Talisman can absolutely SHRED bosses, if they aren't too quick and agile. It is slow enough that really fast bosses are tough to hit with it. But besides that, this thing is OP. I'm actually going to stop using it unless I'm really stuck on a boss because it's just that powerful.

Either this got changed, deals different stance damage based on weapon, or Bernhal is busted. I hit him with this like ten times, in groups of 3-4 in quick succession, and he didn't stance break once.

                                • Anonymous

The scarab for this Ash must be bugged. No feetsteps are sowing in my area. I tried glintblade, even after reloading the area a few times. Even used the Magma Wyrm Scalesword to coat the area in lava. No dice.

                                    This skill is broken yo
1 hit and it stagges almost all enemies
2-3 Hits and it staggers most big enemies and bosses

Completely destroys any boss fight with the amount of damage it does

                                    • Anonymous

With Carian Filigreed Crest and the talismans that give HP/FP on crit, sticking this on the Misericord will carry you through most of the game while still letting you learn boss mechanics.

                                      • Anonymous

Poise damage is independent from stance/posture damage, and the corresponding enemy health for each (poise health, stance health) are also independent. Malenia has low enough poise to get stunned by a curved sword (so long as she doesn't have hyperarmor), but she has the stance/posture of a large enemy so two hits from this skill would put her in a brake/riposte state, while it would take many more hits from a curved sword to do the same.

                                        • Anonymous

The strongest PvE ash of war in the game. It consistently staggers every single boss in 2-3 hits of it, and it’s got great range, quick use time and low FP cost. This thing trivializes most bosses in the game. Low risk extremely high reward.

                                          • Anonymous

Very powerful on S scaling Str heavy weapons with high AR. I found it to be most useful on the Giant-Crusher and Watchdog's Greatsword. You get high damage with the weapon art, weapon's R1/R2, and the crit after stance break. Colossal weapons in general just got a huge buff to 2hand damage and blocking, so you literally have a massively damaging, high blocking, stagger machine with great AoE and hyper armor heavies.

                                            • Anonymous

Been using this on my second playthrough right now. Literally puts the entire game on easy mode. Just stunlock every boss as soon as you run through the fog gate.

The only ash of war to really help me against those god awful tree worms. (Ulcerated tree spirit?)
Stuns them so they'll stop f**king yeeting across the arena as I fight the camera.

                                                • Anonymous

In singleplayer this is an S tier boss stunlock machine. In multiplayer this is one of the most disappointing useless hot garbage u can ever bring to the party. Singleplayer Godrick breaks in 3 hits. Multiplayer Godrick breaks in more than 8 hits. You are much more useful with a high damage, or status AoW than with this useless garbage(in multiplayer).

                                                  • Anonymous

Why son Always here that this scales with strength. I’m at 22 strength and 63 dex running twin Noble Slender words and I usually hit for 1400+ On Farum Azula Beastmen running a keen infusion. What are you guys getting for damage? I know most use it for stagger ability but was interested in what everyone else is getting damage wise and stats invested.

                                                    • Anonymous

Lol stop saying this will be needed or you’ll curse it to happen. It seems unlikely to me since the damage is lower then hoarfrost ever was, you cast it slower then most other Ashe’s of war, and you have to be in the perfect distance to get it to work. It’s not as spammable nor is the range nearly as large as the area affected by hoarfrost. The poise damage is absolutely amazing, but it seems to be perfectly balanced imo. Not everyone can properly use this like the hoarfrost being easy mode impossible to miss, this one is very possible to mess up on casting.

                                                      • Anonymous

The linked video says it benefits from Bloodflame Blade, but does it also benefits from innate bleed/rot/poison? And does it benefit from scholar's armament? And if yes for that last one, does it benefit even more from Clayman's Harpoon + Scholar's Armament?

                                                        • Anonymous

Enjoy it while you can, this is 100% getting nerfed. And once it does it'll become useless because From can't balance for ****.

                                                          • Anonymous

Extremely good stance damage, and nice damage in general. Using dual scimitars as a secondary weapon to my mist raptor claw jump/crit build, and I randomly decided to slap this on the scimitars. The decent damage of this paired with the high crit damage from my misericorde afterwards has this doing some of pretty nutty damage, and overall it has been a pretty fun experience. Not as fun as the jump claws, but definitely one of my favorites. Also a pretty decent art in pvp, nice damage to players and pretty wide/long range that can help a bit fighting against ganks. Overall I'd recommend it.

                                                            • Anonymous

If they really plan to nerf it, instead of directly into trash tier I wish they could just double the fp cost so that it's not spammable but still powerful.

                                                              • Does the poise damage from this AoW scale off STR and FAI too? (Does it take longer to stagger if your strength or faith is too low?) Or does it only scale for the HP damage you inflict on enemies?

                                                                • Anonymous

love how this is the only way i have ever stunned a rune bear, killed the one in dragonbarrow cave with just 2 l2s to stun and crits until it died

                                                                  • Anonymous

mine vanished with the 1.03 update. Any way to get more of this?
nd no I did not sell it I never sell any items, ever. Its also not in my chest. :-(

                                                                    • While everyone else was simping for Hoarfrost Stomp, this AoW carried me throughout my entire first playthrough. That poise damage is simply too amazing against all manner of bosses, especially against the likes of Malenia. And outside of boss battles, the large arc and flame damage make it a great skill for use against mobs.

                                                                      • Anonymous

The slow startup, medium damage and range makes this AoW not really that strong. Yes, the poise damage is good, but when I use this AoW I always get hit before I can even use this.

                                                                        • Anonymous

Basically everything I wished Scouring Black Flame did, minus the damage over time anyway.
Better startup, almost half the cost, an actually reliable spread, way more damage up front, it poise breaks like a mf, and to top it all off i can use it with my weapon out.
when they inevitably nerf this I really hope our new black flame combustion gets some heavy loving to compensate

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

Costs 14 FP, is almost as fast as moonveil, and has a wide frontal arc AOE.
I don't generally comment on skills regarding balance, but wtf is the reasoning behind such a random skill being so OP lol.

                                                                              • Anonymous

I just open with this to stagger them, then hit them with a critical followed by a full charged heavy and thall do like 4k ish dmg and then another 2 of these will stun the boss again, its insane

                                                                                • Anonymous
