Elden Ring Ash of War: Flame of the Redmanes Notes & Tips
- This skill does 10 poise damage against PvE and 100 against PvP players.
- Damage is increased only via upgrading your Weapon and from Strength (but not Strength scaling). Therefor it is best to choose a Weapon that has good Strength Scaling, so that you do lots of damage with both the Weapon and the Skill.

Oh no, people are having fun with a cheesy move in single player! SOMEBODY STOP THEM!
- Anonymous
according to fromsoft - bleed - balanced- one hit commit azur - balanced - most actually good AOW - MUST BE NERFED AT ONCE
- Anonymous
this should have 20 poise dmg NOT10 They nerfed it WAY TOO MUCH
- Anonymous
This used to be the best AoW for stagger builds, now it's just dollar store Flaming Strike.
- Anonymous
May do awful poise but the damage it can still do can be scary
- Anonymous
Look, I get that the poise damage was too freaking high to the point it basically trivialized the game (every boss got stance broken in 2-3 hits) and it needed to be reduced for balancing purposes, but a 75% drop? they didn't nerf it, they nuked it from orbit. The skill is useless now.

"slept on in pvp" lmao noobs. This skill is awful. Crap damage and its slow. Whenever opponent has this ash of war its a free win for me
- Anonymous
What a glorious idea, to take an ash of war whose sole redeeming factor is the stance/poise damage (slow both to cast and to cover any distance, middling range for how long it takes to come out, mediocre damage) and reduce said poise damage by over 50%. Being actually effective and a good tool to fall back on killed this, based on how From likes its 'balance'.
- Anonymous
It is not slept on in pvp. It is easily dodged and has a 1 second telegraphand a long cooldown. It is awful.
- Anonymous
Tried it for the first time and it absolutely slaughters in pvp. 45 str, one handed, heavy great mace and it hits about 400-500 in pvp. Which is absolutely ridiculous lol on my other build, pure faith, one handed flame art Morningstar it hits for 215 in pvp. Good either way.
- Anonymous
slept on in pvp for a medium range harassment tool. the damage can be quite good on a high str build
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Step 1) Not make any bosses immune to stagger
Step 2) Notice players cheese PvE with poise damage
Step 3) Lower poise damage rather than grant some bosses stagger immunity
- Anonymous
It was a matter of time before the crybabies ruin another great ash of war
- Anonymous
Stance damage heavily nerfed, from 40 down to 10. RIP to 99% of the usefulness of this skill.

First time I beat Malenia was with the Redmanes Misericorde. Could not beat the elden beast or Mogh with it though. Glintblade Phalanx works better there.
- Anonymous
I put this thing on the Greatsword, and the two combined is an absolute slaughterhouse. Heavy infusion and every move you make will lead to stagger. It’s absurd.
- Anonymous
This does more damage on a heavy infusion than a fire infusion, just fyi.
- Anonymous
Honestly im on my third run, and ive never found this item, i scoured every nook and cranny, and somehow have missed this beetle every time.
Granted im not going to go get it rn since im doing an arcane scaling run, but this is gonna be great when i try a dagger run, so im glad i finally know where it is.
- Anonymous
Actually does some good damage on a high AR weapon. Used it on a flame infused giant crusher with the flame shrouded tear and two shot a couple peeps in invasions. It makes sense since its slow and easy to space so it should do good damage, at least to players.

lol wouldn't it be funny if Fromsoft put in a game journalist difficulty. What a hilarious and absurd hypothetical feature haha
- Anonymous
This with no doubt is one the if not the most op thing in the game for PVE. Most bosses will stancebroken in 2 or 3 hits and you can spam it. Even though it's somehow pretty underused by players
- Anonymous
Seriously nerf this I'm sick of players bragging they got platinum but they use these things to pretend they can play with the big boy souls players
- Anonymous
people complain about many things, moonveil, rivers of blood, rot breath, etc. but this needs a nerf more than any of those things combined
- Anonymous

- Anonymous
I exclusively use this on every Burial Watchdog I come across. Those ganky things do not deserve any respect from me.
- Anonymous
"elden ring needs an easy mode". This on a misericorde. Doesn't get much easier than that.
- Anonymous
I think the damage is fine, but the stagger potential needs to be nerfed. Being able to break stance in 3 hits makes boss encounters so easy that kinda removes the point of the game
- Anonymous
Nerf this please, holy cow. Never seen a Souls game with this of a braindead easy level 1 run. You shouldn't have to self regulate this hard just to not skip fights.
I want to dance, not mash only two buttons over and over again.
- Anonymous
would this be good on colossal weapons for pvp because of the stagger and damage scaling?
- Anonymous
Pvp, just spawned in a cave. There I was infront of two blues, "Ah... a cave gank" I think to myself, with a sorceress prepping a comet azur and some muscle head swing a GS in my face, it would have seemed rotten luck have sealed my fate. However, as a Faith main, with this WA equipped on my knights greatsword, the tables turned drastically in my favor, within seconds of activation, half of their health evaporated, both of them fell as the second wave of flames scorched their insides ablaze.
- Anonymous
This thing kills nearly everything. Small things with big numbers - it's AoE. Flying things - dead. Fast things that dodge around you - manual aim with wide hitbox. Knights, bosses - if they can stagger, 2-3 hits staggers -> crit -> start casting again with a bit of delay while they are getting up, most likely will lead to a stagger loop.
- Anonymous
this needs a serious look at. it turned my RL1 into a cakewalk
- Anonymous
this the new meta? I see invaders using this on me and my hosts but its not very effective... seems good for PVE though!
- Anonymous
Haha now that we got rivers of blood nerfed we can get to work on getting this into acceptable levels. For starters this needs the stagger damage removed this ash is letting people skip the true experience
- Anonymous
Pls nerf this it makes the game way 2 easy this is not how dark souls is meant 2 be played
- Anonymous
Most OP ash of war in PvE. Dont recommend it, it makes the game easy mode. Big AOE, scales with strenght like truck and it stuns every boss with two shots !! This is how you ruin the game, dont use it
- Anonymous
55 poise. All you need to shotgun other builds in the face with this. Flame strike technically better but it forces the match to become a staring contest since a there’s no punish and a skilled player will happily wait ten minutes for you to slip up. This is just “bad” enough that even good players will risk eating it. Free aim it since the curve of the arc will make it roll catch if they’re close enough. Nothing they can do. No don’t use faith. Use strength. Strength bois get better incantations and sorceries than everyone else. Suck it faith/int nerds
- Anonymous
Why does this do around 2000 a cast on my build and stagger everything? This ash of war is criminal.
- Anonymous
I've never seen this used to my knowledge in PVP videos or in game so it's curious seeing all the comments on in this section talking about how overpowered this is or was. Closest thing I've seen like this being used is the Spark aromatic.
- Anonymous
Did it always have this terribly low range, or did it get nerfed?
- Anonymous
Everyone talking about how powerful this is, I'm just using it because throwing flame from your hands looks cool
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Seriously fantastic skill, almost to its own detriment. If you use this you’ll likely just become dependent on it due to its fast cast, crazy damage, and stupidly high poster damage. If you’re looking for a powerful skill that isn’t also OP as all hell, I suggest Ground Slam.
- Anonymous
My first playthrough, a friend recommended this. It's a great powerful ash, but after several hours of using it I decided to put it away before I get too dependent on it, felt too overpowered and boring. Just rely on L2+riposte everything for the entirety of the game while they offer complex and diverse combat system for us to explore... it doesn't sounds fun to me. imo
- Anonymous
Crutch skill that gets spammed on the same level of Moonveil's and RoB's. Maybe not quite as bad, but will inevitably be nerfed all the same.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I can't use heavy on giant crusher with it only on other ashes, is nerfed or do i have bug or something?
- Anonymous
Great tool for any Sunbro to have. Great for poise breaking bosses, giving the host time to heal or land a crit. Good for fending off sweatlord invaders too!
- Anonymous
i am now in the Redmane club, we need to keep this a secret.
- Anonymous
i killed the invisible teardrop scarab but it didn't appear in my inventory, why?

Is this the wrong location? I'm pretty sure its behind redmane castle rather than Fort gale?
- Anonymous
This deals obscene stagger damage. Heavily recommend this Ash of War.
- Anonymous
I'm a little disappointed the Redmane Knights don't use this skill. It would be badass and it's named after their faction
- Anonymous
Seems to also benefit from most weapon buffs. For example, when using Order's Blade on my weapon, Flame of the Redmanes did significantly more damage to undead AND prevented them from resurrecting.

Disgustingly strong on enemies with really long stagger animations like Trolls, or Deathbirds.
Currently using it on my Fire Build. Using it twice will stagger most enemies and while they are on the floor you can use "Catch Flame!" 3-5 times and then still go for the riposte.
- Anonymous
Very powerful on S scaling Str heavy weapons with high AR. I found it to be most useful on the Giant-Crusher and Watchdog's Greatsword. You get high damage with the weapon art, weapon's R1/R2, and the crit after stance break. Colossal weapons in general just got a huge buff to 2hand damage and blocking, so you literally have a massively damaging, high blocking, stagger machine with great AoE and hyper armor heavies.
- Anonymous
How can ash scales with STR?
Does this means if I put this on a weapon with dex scaling and I have 50 dex, it will be dealing less dmg, than if I had 50 str?
- Anonymous
Looks similar to Flaming Strike start-up and you can trick people by swapping between these two. I know this but it got me a couple times...
- Anonymous
Fun fact: This ash of war will proc black flame blade's DOT when apply it to your weapon
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
This should have absolutely been nerfed in 1.04, as it trivializes most builds. Even lowering the poise break from 40 to 33 (on par with other "great" poise breakers) would keep it at S-tier with its stupid fast cast time, range, and spammability.
- Anonymous
I thought everyone in the comment was execrating the stun effect on PVE with this. Never been more wrong.
- Anonymous
Why use rivers of blood if you can be more unoriginal and tryhard with this.
- Anonymous
Used this to beat the game, it's absolutely busted. Works on anything you can break poise on, including Elden Beast. Seems very under-the-radar still, I'd be shocked if it doesn't get nerfed eventually.
- Anonymous
Just did a full playthrough with a fire build. This was intended to be something I got early for fire damage as I got higher tier spells...ended up being my main skill for the entire playthrough. Even with high faith and later game spells this thing absolutely wrecked. Ran this on a misericorde and ran fire scorpion's charms + dagger talisman and then swapped my other talismans out depending on what I needed. There's probably better ways to optimize this ash of war and the misericorde, but it worked very well for me.
- Anonymous
Scales better in the higher str tiers with heavy infusion over Fire. Was using +24 Curved swords when testing and saw a difference of 100 damage with only 55 STR. The Difference will get a lot biogger on the way up to 80 as Fire doesn't scale well at all past 50 and Heavy does. Reminds me a lot of its thunderbolt brother.
- Anonymous
This is going to be nerfed for sure, it's broken af.
You can easily break stance on any boss without any effort.
- Anonymous
What does this scale with? It does not do anything in my faith build even with flame art weapon scaling
- Anonymous
for any non-boss, you can use this once or twice and theyre instantly open for a riposte. pair it with flame, grant me strength and youll melt through the world.

The skill itself scales with strength intrinsically, even with a weapon that has been given the Flame Art (faith scaling) infusion via the Red-hot Whetblade. Tested it myself, by swapping between several talismans. Str Talisman + Radagon Soreseal the skill did 191 on Godrick soldiers with a flame art erdsteel dagger. Swapped out for Faith Talisman + Marika Soreseal and the skill did 181.
I tried this on Malenia and it isn't working like the videos I saw. Maybe it goes with weapon scaling and weapon level? I think I used it on a mage character who mainly has non-Ash of War Wing of Astel, so I used like a +16 Magic Estoc. Summoned a +10 Mimic summons, just get blasted.
- Anonymous
Why cant i use magic infusion with this ash or war? I have all the whetblades.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Does anybody understand the scaling on the damage of this art? Doing some rudimentary experiments, it scales with STR, but I’ve heard it scales off faith also.
- Anonymous
Don’t tell anyone about this one guys. If you know you know.
- Anonymous
If I put this weapon art on with a keen affinity what does the damage scale with? Thanks
- Anonymous
Is there a magic scaling comparable art that does as good posture damage.
