would have been cool to have on staffs for a pure ice caster, idk why they even have the ability to put ashes on staffs if theres only 1 option
- Anonymous
Does the skill still cause frostbite if you infuse it with keen? Im trying keen spiked caestus and bloodflame blade and I'm trying to min max by getting both frostbite and hemorrhage at the same time.

Just a thought: putting this on a misericorde is a nice way to add room clearing ability with small weight add, utility of being able to take advantage of the misericorde crit damage on poise breaks.

Very important , for those thinking this is nerfed, only the COLD build is nerfed dmg wise, if you use the magic variant, it will not apply frost buildup on hit, BUT it will do lots of dmg in AOE like it used to on the skill and still apply frost with the skill
Considering that you realistically only apply frost status 1 time per fight unless it is a boss or you are using fire to remove the status, it is way more efficient to use this on magic infusion . I advise using it on a sacrificial axe main hand with sword of milos off hand and ancestral spirit, and RP a raging frost barbarian/viking/jotun etc. and spam stomp to kill enemies in AOE and single target alike and have unlimited mana. It is great for a fun RP playthrough on NG+

good at fighting people using a maximum invisibility build (assassin gambit + hidden form) that can't be z-targeted

I love this AoW. I use this on my left hand and Bloody Slash on my right hand, with two straight swords and its insane how often frost and bleed procc. I never used many of the AoWs, only some bleed stuff and the AoWs you can't change (like the one on the BB or other somber-stone-weapons). I tried this out on my new Wretch and its really cool. I only play PvE, if this matters. ^^

Since this got nerfed, I can actually use it without feeling too OP.

Good for revealing invisible pathways, if you don't bother using Rainbow Stones.

This is widely considered one of the best ashes of war in the entire game. And frankly, I agree.
There was a nerf, and I never even noticed there was a nerf.
- Anonymous
you know what would be cooler than this? This, but instead of Ice, it would be rocks similar to the ones Godfrey and the Crucible Knights use. It would naturally grant Heavy affinity.
- Anonymous
I don’t have this but when I go to the location there’s no scarab. There’s even the messages saying that say “try here” but there’s no scarab doing it’s usual route. I’m almost certain that I’ve been here before, killed the scarab and got an ash of war but Hoarfrost stomp is nowhere in my inventory
- Anonymous
This Ash still is great even after nerf. If you can't utilize this site in your game play you must just suck and rely on overpowered mistakes. Love it on my great stars hammer.
- Anonymous
Animatiom will disappear with low fps aaaaand no damage. (Slow clapping) Someone say it terrain based. Nope. Just lower your video settings.

The fact that this was nerfed to the floor and no one uses it anymore might make From buff it a little bit now xD

It's still a usable ash of war if you want to easily proc frost...when it works. It seems half the time I stop it uses the fp but doesn't do anything.
- Anonymous
For those who are wondering, while it doesn't trivialize the game anymore, this is still a good weapon art. To those who say that the damage nerf was too much, it's an AoE attack. Most (and I said MOST, there are exceptions) AoE attacks have below-average damage in exchange for the ability to hit multiple targets at once. The nerf just brought it down to the same level as most other AoE attacks.
The reason people are calling it trash is because they are used to being overpowered, and the gap between themselves and most other weapon arts was so large that being average is comparable to trash in their eyes.
- Anonymous
Too many of you come in from the perspective of speed running or min/maxing to render bosses trivial, which leads you to call so many skills & weapons "trash". This skill is still perfectly decent and usable by normal players who simply want to use cool abilities and have fun.

Useless piece of trash now.. reverse all nerfd Fromsoft it's a PvE game nothing should ever be nerfed.

They will nerf all the strong weapon arts because a W.A. shall not substitute the main attacks. Just my estimation.
- Anonymous
This is what you scrubs get for spamming it 3v1 in pvp, or having cooperators carry you with it
- Anonymous
Wow used it on my level 1 run a lot now I need to change my tactic

It might be needed but it’s still a really good move. You just can’t use it like an ice nuke now.
However it still does decent damage and has wide range, and it easilly applies freeze. RIP whatever, you guys just have to use it as it was intended now.
- Anonymous
I feel like they nerfed the damage a bit too much. The higher casting time was definitely needed to stop spamming in PVP but now the thing hits as hard as a wet noodle.

its patched. Less Damage, higher Casting Time. R.I.P
-.-
were all Hoarfrost Bros

Elden Rings 1.03 patch apparently nerfs this AOW.
The official Bandai-Namco announcement states:
"Decreased Ash of War, Hoarfrost Stomp's damage and increase cast time."

They finally nerfed this cheat code :D [I killed several bosses with this one easily]
"Decreased Ash of War, Hoarfrost Stomp's damage and increase cast time"

Well, some people got their wish. This got nerfed in 1.03, damage somewhere around 40%, time to cast about double ...

This reminds me of the night and flame blade, and when I learned you could actually pick up Comet Azur for a spell and saw what it could do I crit my pants! Where's the sorcery for this spell?! I've seen the boss in Sainted Hero's Grave use it... but where do we find it?!

pretty op, less op than magic. lot of things need fixing in elden ring tbh this should be pretty far down the list compared to everything else, does kinda make the game ez mode tho. I use it to cheese half the enemies/bosses to get all the items for my low level pvp builds where I barley upgrade my weapons, at lvl 1 zero upgrades, I have 10 int, it still does 400-500 damage easy. I cant imagine actually using this casually if your trying to have fun in this game, definitely makes this game lame if your just L2 spamming everything, especially if your using it in pvp

I love to put this on Flamberge to melt everything. And I don't even use the WA, just the Ice build up.

This should’ve stayed a unique Ash of War for the Icerind Axe. An Ash of War this powerful being put on so many weapons is ridiculous.
- Anonymous
Can't believe people are whining about it being OP. Thats why its fun. Go play with an unupgraded ladle you masochist.

Yeah of course you're not allowed to have anything strong but bosses having low-telegraph insta-kill grab attacks even at 40+ vigor that's reasonable. Except sorceries, right? They're not allowed to touch those absolutely busted sorceries.
No, screw you if you're an easily triggered nerf-fanatic.
OMG! Using Moonveil item is like cheating! I just killed General Radahn boss with only using this and it was like an easy easy level 1 enemy! I'm sure they will nerf it.

Getting really tired of the comment section.

pretty sure the FP cost is bugged or not meant to be 10 because using the carian filigreed crest makes this actually cost 12 FP instead of 10 when it should decrease it
- Anonymous
Question, does this game still negate frost buildup if you get hit by fire?
- Anonymous
I'm not proud to admit this became my fall back plan for stuff like Ornstein & Smough: Godskin edition
- Anonymous
ive noticed that for example with keen affinity this skill does more dmg than with heavy, despite i have more total dmg with heavy affinity. didnt test it much and i was using a zweihander
- Anonymous
-Boos killing AOE damage
-low FP cost
-fast casting time
-useable on all weapons
-build doesnt matter the main damage comes from weapon level
-stun, frost potntial
summary: way too strong and should be nervt hard

This ash of war DOES NOT scale with int. After a LOT of testing I can conclude that ashes of war scale off weapon AR/level ONLY. Confirmed by speedrunner user:
Distortion2.

- Anonymous
- Anonymous
In my testing I found that the damage scales with:
1) The weapon upgrade level. A +24 longsword does the same damage as a +24 greatsword. Only daggers seem to be doing less damage, but I have not tested every weapon class.
2) The infusion. Cold infusion does the most damage.
3) Intelligence. The damage scales pretty well with int, even when the weapon does not have int scaling.
4) Dexterity. The damage scales worse than with int, but still does good damage with high dex, low int.
The AR of the weapon or strenght does not seem to increase the damage, a huge collossal sword with heavy infusion and high strength will do way less damage than a rapier with cold infusion and high int.

Absurdly broken in pve, even with no stats investment. I don't usually recommend nerfing, but this just makes most other spells and ashes look really weak and that cheapens a lot of the game.
- Anonymous
My heavy +20 UGS (pure STR) deals 1400 per stomp (no frost bite proc). Respected to 99 INT & COLD affinities and it still deal similar ammount of damage.
Tested on Greyroll
- Anonymous
This thing can wipe out most lesser enemies in 1 stomp, use a little FP and spamable
Very useful for every build, especially Frost infuse with Katana or dex weapon.
- Anonymous
are the people complaining about this not working on PC or console? I'm on PC and i've literally never had an issue with it going off. Sometimes it will go up high in the air if you do it against a wall or something, but I've never had it just disappear or not properly explode after the initial wave.
Cool to use, deals insane damage, low cost and no skill required. Have fun with that Ash of War but if you can only spam this button please dont summon me for a bossfight.
- Anonymous
Gets hard countered by barrier of gold, still deals frost though...
- Anonymous
Question, if you put this on a weapon but then make the weapon scaling keen or heavy it says the weapon looses ice build up. So my question is does the stomp still cause ice build up with the scaling changed ?
Take your shoes off when using this and become friede. Assert your dominance with your icy foot fetish of death
- Anonymous
I don't see it the scarab. I tried looking in the day and night
- Anonymous
I think its damage is based by the weapons damage, no matter the split? In this case with frost infusion it would deal physical and magical split. Am sitting on slightly higher quality stats than int and on standard infusion it deals higher damage for me.
- Anonymous
Either insanely strong or insanely useless. Half the time it perma stunlocks most common enemies and even many mini bosses while doing crazy damage and frostbite, the other half of the time the followup wave after the stomp just doesn't appear, pretty sure this has to do with minor curves in the ground.
- Anonymous
It's extremely powerful when it works, but for some reason half the time the ice waves just disappears. Some people suggested that it has to do with the terrain, and it seems to be the case because if you use it against a door, the wave will get sent to space.
- Anonymous
probably the most unpolished mechanic in the game. Not because of it's supposed OP-ness (it really is not op imo), but because in some terrain, it just wont work 50% of the time. They should've really made this with odd topography in mind.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
this ash is hella buggy. Sometimes just nothing happens, even with full FP. I feel like the icicles don't always know on which height level they should appear
Can anyone confirm that this procs bleed as well?
I've been testing with different weapons and i only see frost procs from weapon art.
I am asking because i see a lot of "guides" that tell you it procs bleed but i so far from my own tests it does not
- Anonymous
This thing is by far one of the best ashes of war. Not sure how it only scales off of INT when I chose to have it scale for keen on my scythe and seems to increase the damage of it when I increase my dex level.
- Anonymous
this carried me through the 2nd half of the game. It's great
- Anonymous
Just got killed by someone using this. Equipped it and invaded them and literally killed them back with it in 1 stomp, needs a nerf
- Anonymous
Having a good time using this with sacrificial axe. Don't even need a mana flask.
- Anonymous
Does the difficulty sometimes feel cheap or cheesey? Be cheap back! R2 R2 R2 R2 git gud, AI.
- Anonymous
How do you duplicate this Ash for other weapons? It doesn't show on my list at all. (Yes I have multiple Lost Ashes of War, and the weapon itself)
- Anonymous
This thing is just broken af. I'm a faith build with 9 intelligence and this thing is still good. I encountered this during the great jar's challenge against 3 red phantoms. Every time i faced a phantom that used this skill they just spammed this 4 times and there was nothing i could do to avoid the damage or block it. Had to try it myself and it uses less mana than an average spell and hits like a truck on a huge aoe. Perfect combination for any int build that uses a melee weapon.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
amazing crowd cleaner. can go down slopes and can cheese stuff easily. can even go around corners if you feel like it. its pretty broken for pve and makes most spells kinda useless with the FP cost and damage.
- Anonymous
Anyone else having this skill and it won't work sometimes? Like the icicles just plain ass won't show up at all?
- Anonymous
Not sure if it scales with int or if its just that OP right now but im doing over 2k per stomp with 42int. Pretty insane.
- Anonymous
Dont forget you can reset frostbite with fire damage, if you want to trigger the frostbite dmg multiple times in a row.
- Anonymous
I wouldnt even mind a nerf, feels kinda pointless to do anything besides spamming this. Its bad versus flying foes at least
- Anonymous
I will enjoy while it has massive damage, I know they will nerf it and leaving only with the frost build up lol
- Anonymous
does the frost buildup apply even if im keeping my original scaling? (im str oriented)
I placed it on my +25 miséricord and now deals 105 frostbite buildup but my inteligence is only at 38 and my strength is at 45. I'm making a vagabond frostbite build with the dark moon greatsword should I maybe put less strength and more inteligence?
