This Ash of War grants an armament the Magic affinity and the following skill:
"Spinning Weapon: Defensive skill employed by Carian princesses. Lifts armament into mid-air, then makes it spin violently. Those it touches will suffer successive attacks."

Great defensively- if someone is constantly trying to rush you this stops ‘em quick. Pretty bad offensively, basically no range so you’d have to be right in their face for it to work.

Fun fact: You can put this on a Pike! Probably not in any way meta but fun as hell to be the Tarnish-copter.

needs moar poise damage. people can just smack you in the face and roll away
Throw on a weapon of your choice, add an insignia + prosthesis, and insta generate damage stacks for whatever you're doing to kill. It's high maintenance and overkill, but it's free 10% > 20% > 30% damage buffs and you can even use it to apply status effects - try infusing it with cold, and pairing it with a fire weapon.
I mean yeah it'd be great if it did good damage, poise damage, staggered anything, did damage, maybe had a big AoE cone that pushes enemies away - hell if it were some sort of crowd control, that could be cool! Remember in the old games when you Bleed was a huge debuff instead of a nuke? It was really immersive getting cut a bunch of times and then being like "oh **** I'm out of blood and tired af" instead of your blood violently exploding out of your body. Did anyone ever look into the lore of arcane and the blood explosions?
Woo, remember Arcane in Bloodborne? It was a stat that was well integrated into the setting, story, and gamplay! You could explode stuff with bombs and and the unfathomable effect the great ones had on the fabric of reality, mixed with the now crystalizing blood and alien / ancient / extinct objects of power to maybe shoot a holy beam, summon some tentacles, whatever. Those were the days. I wonder why it makes blood explode nowadays... clearly getting stabbed and cut by any old weapon just doesn't cause bleeding, you NEED THAT ARCANE TO MAKE THE BLOOD EXPLODE, because... *shuffles papers* ... It has something to do with dragons? And blood magic? But only SOME blood magic, and only if you're holding
Hooooooooofta. Anyways I wonder if they'll ever give any of the other stats / status effects the Arcane / Bleed treatment and make it stack multiplicatively with itself? Imagine if you could stack multiple poisons? Hmm, still nowhere near as good as bleed. Imagine if Spinning Weapon cost NO FP!? Hmm... still not great. But at least they could make it a bit more fun.

Has this been changed? I can only infuse standard or magic with it on a reaper.

its reach is equal to that of your nose irl and it knocks enemies away from 80% of the hit combo. Fromsoftware balance things in their game to be usable and viable challange: Impossible. It really is ****.
Why would I ever use this instead of moonveil, blasphemous or RoB? Because I want to be niche and different and quirky and unique. That's the only thing driving me through this game for a second time while I play a build I came up with for a couple of hours, **** like this AoW and then I get bored. Onto my next venture looking through the wiki for weapons and brainstorming possibilities and fashionsouls for the feel good factor and when you go that far, that deep into things you realize how shallow and garbage the games balancing and viable build possibilities are. It really is surface level. You're limited to one ash of war if you don't go through the tedious input of two handing which I refuse to do because it disrupts the flow of combat, there are like 150+ weapons in the game but like 6 total movesets. The cool movesets are tied to weapons that can't change ash of war, and I can't change a weapons moveset, I refuse to dual wield anything that is carried on your shoulder because my left hand holds it like a dagger and it looks stupid and dumb and coding is really hard I guess ds2 is honestly the better game idc man. Why aren't there any weapons that can cast spells?!?! Or a shield?!?! It would be really fun to have access to an ash of war, spells, guard counters and a weapon moveset at the same time without having to fiddle in your inventory honestly but I get it coding is really hard. Atleast you can jump and ride dog WOOOHOO GAMEPLAY PROGRESS IT HAS BEEN 10+ YEARS SINCE DS1 CAME OUT. Crossbows are still ****, bows don't have a place in the builds tierlist not even in the E tier, you can't use ash of wars if you have a crossbow in your left I love build variety past: staff weapon, shield weapon, weapon weapon or just weapon. I love the way backsteps are useless and are never being used outside of looking and feeling cool ds2 is the better game btw. I love how it's incredibly hard to make any individual armor pieces look good together because the hue is slightly off or the colour doesn't match ds2 is the better game btw have I said that ds2 is better yet you ****ing sheep how the **** was that game hated so badly I have never been able to understand that honestly and it annoys me to this day, it's like a social embarrassment to like that game because you can never say that you just like it. It's always ''I like it because it was my first souls game'' or something like that. I played ds1 and almost ****ing snoozed from how ****ing easy that game was, the combat is literally a courtesy minigame, they attack then I attack with massive punish windows wow what a great game. It also had DRAGON AND NON HUMAN BOSSES WOOOW AND DOG AND PLINGPLINGPLONG and the game was a walking simulator with SHORTCUTS WOW NOW THAT MAKES IT ACCEPTABLE AND REALLY COOL Imagine if people weren't unfairly hivemind biased against ds2, walking into the game with reviewers and youtubers copy pasted negative critique and expectations from playing Boring1, they'd complain like I do now I swear. If ds2 would have came out before ds1 the game would have been praised to hell and back they'd say that it was a fantastic game, and maybe then we'd retain really good qualities like actual good dual wielding or backstep Iframes or ADP or a usable left hand it's ****ing insane to me how people can suck elden rings balls dry because it's an open world dark souls wow great bosses lol epic scenery pepega and then never point out how shallow the thing carrying you through the game is, the smooth variety to match the world is simply not there man i don't want to buff for 20 seconds and fumble through equipped items in the middle of a bossfight that ****ing sucks and it's not FUN. WHY WOULD ANYONE EVER USE SHIELDBASH?!?!?! I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE EVER USE SHIELDBASH AOW EVEN ****ING ONCE!!! DID YOU KNOW THAT ATTACK BASED SHIELD AOW EXISTED?! BUT WHY WOULD YOU USE THEM THEY TAKE UP YOUR ONE AND ONLY ASH OF WAR!!!!! IT'S PATHETIC!!! CODING IS REALLY HARD FOR SMALL INDIE GAME COMPANY FROMSOFTWARE!!! MIYAZAKI!!!!! on that note why did no one complain that when you try to normal attack with your weapon in the left hand in ds3 you'd hold it up retardedly like a shield, coding is really hard. and ultra greatswords still got held like a dagger in ds3 and nobody complained I guess it's just me that cares this much about being immersed in a videogame. Feeling like I'm not a restricted nerfed sack of meat because I have pattern recognition and learning in my brain compared to Radahn who can use two ashes of war at the same time and gravity magic to boot without a stupid catalyst (remove catalysts from the game just add them to weapons and make it balanced) but it's a beatable AI.
To summarize my rant I don't like the combat in these games. It's repetative and it's boring. More possibilities, less restrictions Spinning weapon is not broken and therefore is should be abled to be placed on greatswords. Infact remove the whole limitation entirely, just code and balance give the players who care a better experience. max two ashes of war because you have two hands or let us swap between selected ashes of war with a dedicated key for that sought after combat variety so that I do not fall asleep. Don't scream unbalanced because mimic tear is still in the game and letting an AI play the game for you is a real SNOOZEFEST.
Secondly, the fashion souls is dogshit, the colours and hues should be more universal so that you can combo to your liking to really roleplay. The way the banished knight helmets scarf gets tucked and turned into a hijaab when paired with armours. Not a fan at all, makes me puke even. And this has already been done well in the previous games (except ds1 ofc) so what's the issue? small indie company moment.
Final thoughts: Elden ring is not a masterpiece it's far from it. The world get a 4.5 out of 5 because mountaintops and haligtree is a haven of reusable assets that was put there without thought and the dungeons are repetative and boring. While the combat gets a whopping 2 out of 5, because you can't go deeper, it's not a pond it's a puddle. Horse combat is boring and jumping adds alot but it's not enough, ashes of wars are great but they're to restricted and unbalanced. My total score for elden ring is 6.5/10. Look past the glamour and the hivemind hype and you'll see it too.
Anyways, yeah buff spinning weapon it's really bad.

Guys how do I get it I’m on the last boss and all the yt vids ain’t working when I do what they say

everyone talking about bleed and frost procs but this aow is wicked with black flame blade incantation too

Long Bleed Weapon (scythe prob best) with Frost. Spin at the feet of giant enemies. Instant win. Outside that? Almost anything is better.

Why can’t I spin the large club I will forever be disappointed

It is deceptively powerful for casters. If you're running a pure Carian Regal Scepter build, just cast, and when they come close, AoW them in the face. They will die.
If you prefer the weapon variant, you can apply a buff to the wep first before spinning. It requires close range, but it does shred.

For those wondering, yes this triggers rotten winged sword's insignia and millicent's prosthesis
- Anonymous
Use this interchangeably with Ice Spear on the a Cold Twinned Knight Sword. Procs frostbite super quickly and does good damage. Would 100% recommend this for applying status on stunned enemies.

GENERAL KENOBI...I HAVE BEEN TRAINED IN YOUR JEDI ARTS BY COUNT DOOKU!

actually decent for applying things like bleed or frostbite quickly.
- Anonymous
Only ash that works on staffs, and is totally useless. Zero damage. Only useful for melee weapons :(
- Anonymous
The only niche use for this that i've heard of is using it in conjunction with Scholar's Armament, which applies its INT-based damage per hit. It can deal a decent punch, but takes some setup and is easily outclassed by the Slicer.

There's a weird little glitch when you use this while crouching while moving. Crouch and start moving, then use Spinning Weapon without stopping. Once the attack is done, you'll be doing this weird walk where your legs are bent to crouch but you keep your upper body straight up
- Anonymous
Why is this literally the only Ash of war we can use on a staff? It's useless when we can just use a Carian piercer, or dodge. Much rather be able to Equip Bloodhound's Step
- Anonymous
I don't know how to use this. Is it just not great to use early in the game with a +7 straightsword? It feels insanely weak, it doesn't have any poise in pve or pvp, and the status build up (using grease) is more likely to kill the target before the status is applied
- Anonymous
Pretty underrated ash of war. If you put it into the right weapon, and use it at the right timing, this skill can melt boss's poise and hp effectively. Its only weakness is the attack range, as you have to be very close to the enemy every time you use it.

This ash of war on something long like a pike or a twinblade can destroy that multihit illusory wall in the volcano manor in one single use. You don't even need to meet the stat requirements for the weapon and that makes the weapon art not cost fp. Probably good for mass checking walls for the sturdy versions of illusory walls if there are more out there.

Does anyone know how this works with weapon buffs like electric armament? I assume each hit would apply the full damage of the buff, but I just wanted to be sure.

seriously underrated aow. put this on godskin peeler with cold infusion and watch it wreck everything. come out fast, recover fast, only downside is you gotta be in a melee range but you're meleeing anyway. sometimes simple is best.
- Anonymous
I use this on a cold pike and it's quite effective in pve and pvp :)
Winged sword talisman is a good match.

Very good against mounted enemies. It’s hits both horse and rider, and stuns the horse for much of the duration.

Good choice to put on a flail if you want to change the affinity

cannot be used in off hand with a staff when main hand has no skill(golden order seal) kinda not fair but hope they can give the dual wielding mechanics a look over

Ok after struggling with crystalians as a spellsword type build most of the game, just used this and it absolutely WRECKED the raya Lucaria cave twin crystalians. Broke poise in one use.

Best use I have gotten from this is putting it on a heavy banished knight halberd, standing under a dragon's legs and shredding their underside. Should theoretically work on anything large enough to get underneath.
- Anonymous
Use this and Bloodflame on a Twinblade to stack insane bleed numbers on bosses
- Anonymous
I used it because on a scythe with bloodflame blade it looks like a light show, but I've caught people with it using swarm of flies as a stagger button, and it usually bleeds them twice, but not really consistent to pull off, for me at least. Also works well on big and slow enemies.
- Anonymous
Pretty good at guard breaking enemies with shields.
A niche use — but a use nonetheless.
- Anonymous
Are "small swords" daggers and "medium swords" straight swords? If not I can't use it on greatswords like the claymore.
- Anonymous
Great burst damage on flail+bloodflame buff, even proc bleed dmg
- Anonymous
What's the point of this?
What does it actually do? It's no good as an attack becuase i t has no range and the start-up is too long. You'll get knocked out of it.
Does it function as a shield? It doesn't seem to.
At the moment i'm using this just to get Magic Scaling on one of my swords, but the actual weapon art seems completely useless.

would be better if you didn't have to be humping the mob to hit them with it

Description is wrong, its "polearms and twinblades, greatspears excepted" and most staves count as polearms for the purpose of spinning

Chainlink flail (presumably morning star too) is a truly excellent candidate for this, thanks to bleed and high posture damage. Makes mincemeat of Mohg if you mash L2 during staggers and the phase transition.
