I didn't get Storm Stomp from opening the chest in the ruins. Am I missing something?

does anyone know if storm stomp applies things like bleed, frost, poison, etc?

One of the best, most versatile Ashes of War. No wonder it's the first one they give you.
- Anonymous
very good at catching squirrely light rolling player, same with the first part of flaming strike.
- Anonymous
Don't know if anyone mentioned it yet but even colossal weapon R1s true combo off this now
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I know Claymore uncharged R2 combos with that, but any other weapon can do same with R2?
- Anonymous
I tested it with Dismounter (Curved GS), and it seems that uncharged R2 does true combo off the stomp.

You can spam this to crack a crystalian, even on a plus zero weapon. It only takes five or six stomps. Made the sellia hideaway boss much easier.

Why does stuff with a tiny punish window get tons of hyperarmor but stuff like gelmirs fury gets none? i dont get it
- Anonymous
Very good for invasions where you're getting constantly pressured by multiple people
indirectly nerfed by increasing the poise of basically every armour, wearing medium-heavy armour with the bull-goat talisman, its now alot easier to get to 101 poise, which is the amount needed to tank through this. had a duel where we both used this and could poise through it, felt very weird.

We need a list of all the weapons that get combos out of this, even though it's basically every weapon.
ahhh the poise I'm gonna.... I'm.. I'M GONNA STOOOOOOOOMP!!!

the true combos are lore accurate. the banished knights do it all the time

10/10 people complaining about this ash of war have no idea how to counter it. The main thing unbalanced about it is the low fp cost, aside from that once you learn the timing on it you can both punish or dodge it very consistently. Trading into it fast enough with a fairly high pose damage weapon (like a greatsword or halberd) will stun them long enough to avoid a true combo. The stomp on the player models leg telegraphs the attack very well and the damage output(when not paired with actual broken builds that need to be nerfed, not storm stomp) is fairly mild when compared to most other ashes of war that are borderline one shotting you. This is coming from someone who barely ever uses the ash of war.

to all who complain about this aow, I hope you know that you have only cemented my using this in my build

it would be nice if this had the little wind magic symbol show up before it comes out like how storm blade does. that would make it much easier to react to

i only use this on my 490 ar estoc on my high page pvp cosplay build. it lets me do... something with a single, non-status effect light thrusting sword in my main hand. the stomp itself deals about 200 or so damage and a light-medium armoured target and less on anyone using heavier stuff. still most of its utility comes from being able to interrupt just about anything. dragon breath, sure. giant hunt? yup. its just a really really good ash of war.

this is the reason i use the pike. i want to be as far away from players that use this as physically possible.

Wow is that a (dual bleed curved sword/claymore) you got there? I wonder what ash you have on it. Oh, it is storm stomp. Oh, that looks like it missed me, but I took a little damage. That's fine. Oh wait, now I'm (instantly bled/hit by an R2 poke). Oh wow, you are using storm stomp again, and you followed up with (instantly bled/hit by an R2 poke). Oh wow, you are using storm stomp again, and you followed up with (instantly bled/hit by an R2 poke) and now I'm dead. That sure was a fun and engaging duel, with no crutches in sight.
Why learn to play the game when it provides kill confirms for free. Sure do love true combos in a true comboless game. It would be one thing if something existed in DS3, where all weapons minus a couple got 2-3 hits guaranteed, but the pvp is this game is made so that it isn't supposed to happen anymore. Hopefully we see changes to the last few problem attacks in this game, and at least pve players won't complain about this one since it sucks in pve already.

Why fight like a man if you can use aoe that cannot be interrupted, stays forever, stuns everything and lets you land free shots?
- Anonymous
@ all Claymore users thinking of rocking this:
Don't. It's a crutch, it'll breed bad habits in your technique. Claymore is a beautiful and skillful weapon. Train yourself, don't rely on an ash.

10/10: All I need to say is go to the dueling arena at the Main academy gate at 125 and try to find one tryhard Who doesn’t use this ash of war.
Go ahead, I’ll wait.

This is basically a Focus Attack from SF4, and it's amazing; the fact you can combo with it is kinda crazy.
- Anonymous
So this thing true comboes, has a hitbox that lingers longer than a dodge, covers my roll distance, gets a ton of poise and requires over 100 poise to poise through it?
- Anonymous
A skill that basically lets you reaction trade. For more damage most of the time. As much as I love it, I think the hyperarmor is a bit too ridiculous and shouldn't tank through ultras and such. But not before passive poise is nerfed.
- Anonymous
Hyperarmour needs a tone down it was overtuned you can't stagger them with a colossal sword light attack.

Very, very strong tool in low level invasions and probably invasions in general. Reliable way to get three man gank squads off your back, and forces them to use tactics other than spam
- Anonymous
The first few dungeons I cleared through with friends I literally spammed this while they cast their sorceries. The bosses couldn't do anything until they got stance broken and killed. I'd give this a wimbdy out of 10
- Anonymous
New fotm, I'm guessing some twitch streamers use it or youtubers making "meta" builds with it and follow NPC unoriginality...
- Anonymous
One of the most obnoxious AoW's in the game. Unbelievably unfun to fight angainst.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
This does not stagger when opponent has 100+ poise, so if to see a bullgoat guy this weapon art becomes pointless. kinda stupid.
- Anonymous
Oh you thought it was your turn to attack? Nope, heres a ****ing R2
- Anonymous
This skill lets you pretend you have poise without having to wear the heavy-ass armor for it. If two people have it, whoever stomps last will win the trade.

I have the Whetstone Knife but not the Storm Stomp ash of war. Didn't spawn for me. Wtf?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Anyone knows what is the poise dmg for this? Can you stun bull-goat monsters with this?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
This thing rocks for PvP, its a long lasting, lingering AoE that can even Anti-Air and true combos into at least a light attack for basically every weapon.
- Anonymous
insanely good when taking on groups of enemies in PvE, low cost lets you spam it to keep enemies staggered while you take them out one at a time. use this if you hate dogs/rats
- Anonymous
In PvP, I think this is the best ash of war for spear/thrust halberd period. Thrusting weapons are all about good spacing, and normally have a rough time against aggressive players running/rolling/out-trading in your face. The stomp stops all of that with 2 quick lingering hitboxes that staggers hard and allows a follow-up into a counter-neutral attack. This also gives a lot of hyper armor to trade, so you can actually roll into your opponents and use this, forcing them to roll away from you, then you start spamming running R1 poke for roll-catching.

The chest only had the whetstone knife in my 2nd playthrough, no Storm Stomp. 1st playthrough was fine. Is the spawn bugged somehow?
Can anybody name the spot with this Ash ? I didn't have it in the chest with Whetstone. And cant understand that flawless explanation about Castle.
- Anonymous
How is this any good ? It has low range. If i want stagger I can just use thrust of my Greatsword. This seems trash.
- Anonymous
I like it as a fast, powerful stagger option in the early game
- Anonymous
So is there any reason to use this besides the quality scaling? I might be missing something but this ash just seems trash
It's fun weaving this into attack combos in PvE since it helps build up poise damage fast and can knock most normal enemies out of their attack pattern. The range is pretty small though, you'll probably find something you like better eventually. Until then, can't go wrong with this.
