Bloody Slash is a Skill in Elden Ring. Bloody Slash is a regular skill that can be found in Ashes of War and can be applied to swords. Updated to Patch 1.07. Bloody Slash has Blood Affinity and is usable with most swords.
How to get Bloody Slash
- Ash of War: Dropped by a Godrick Knight fought at the top of the ramparts of Fort Haight. [Elden Ring Map Link]
Elden Ring Bloody Slash Guide, Notes & Tips
- This is an Ash of War Skill, associated with the Ash of War: Bloody Slash.
- FP Cost: 6
- HP Cost: Each use costs the user (0.05 × Max HP) + 50 rounded down.
- Stance damage depends of the armament (weapon) used:
- 4 (Throwing Blades)
- 6 (Daggers)
- 8 (Thrusting Swords)
- 10 (Straight Swords, Curved Swords, Katanas, Twinblades)
- 11 (Light Greatswords, Greatswords, Great Katana, Curved Greatswords, Heavy Thrusting Swords)
- This Skill is not Chargeable
- This Skill cannot be Parried
- Can be Parried if performed with no FP.
- If used without enough FP, the bloody slash effect will not be performed, and the player will still take damage.
- The Skill performs a moderately ranged diagonal "bloody slash" projectile that deals Standard Damage and inflicts 60 Hemorrhage build up on hit (scales with Arcane). The damage also scales with the user's Arcane, the Arcane Scaling of the weapon used, and the Weapon's Upgrade Level.
- This attack does not benefit from the damage or the status buildup of Weapon Buffs, but it applies weapon effects on hit (such as Black Flame Blade's DoT, and Bloodflame Blade's gradual bleed buildup).
- General AR boosts (such as Golden Vow and Flame Grant me Strength) will boost the projectile's damage.
- For best results, an Occult Affinity weapon will provide the highest damage performance when using this Skill.
- Reach depends entirely of the weapon used.
- Note that this Skill has no weapon hitbox, meaning it does not deal extra damage when used at point-blank range
- Startup is 7 frames longer when used with medium-sized wepons.
- Ansbach's Set boosts its damage by 14%
NOTE: This Skill was changed with Patch 1.07 as follows:
- Status buildup and attack power have been increased.
- Delay between the end of various actions (like using items or attack animations) and being able to perform the skill has been reduced.

Very reliable if you are using a slash/piercing arcane weapon and you are fighting something resistant to it and bleed. Even a dagger can do massive damage with it. It's so cheap and precise, good to defeat enemies behind walls, birds, hit dragon heads. My savior in my daggers only run.

sorry if this is kind of a n00b question, but this does NOT trigger Lord of Blood's Exultation, right? Because it's a static damage as opposed to blood loss, or does the damage trigger due to it being blood related? I know that one isn't available until a bit into the game, but I'm a bit new and I'm trying to think of how builds an work ahead of time
- Anonymous
This is so good it’s not even funny. With 50 arcane it’s doing 750-850 damage with no buffs. Adding shard of Alexander makes it deal around 900-1k damage on average and timing it well to proc bleed when it hits can make it can deal upwards of 1.4K damage. That’s with only shard of Alexander. Add golden vow, exalted flesh, and other buffs and this thing will 1 shot. I’m honestly convinced this thing is the highest damage dealing ash of war in the game. Thank god the self damage acts as a repellent for low skill spammers.

TL; DR at the end!
Bloody Slash gets a 1.8 multiplier on all affinities except Blood and Poison (where it gets a 1.45 multiplier instead) - this means Bloody Slash will deal the same damage across all other infusions if your arcane is the same, because it scales only on ARC (it's a bullet ash so it doesn't care about your AR). This means that if you were max level, Blood/Poison infusion would always perform worse; and that just having 99 ARC or having 99 on all stats will not make a difference in damage. Because of this, Bloody Slash performs best on Occult; use a weapon with native bleed to get best results.
There are actually two versions of Bloody Slash, a quick one and a slow one. All great weapons (greatswords, curved greatswords and great katanas) use the slow version of the ash; everything else uses the quick one. They have different base bullet damage - the quick version has 322 physical, while the slow has 345 physical. What this means is that Bloody Slash will deal roughly ≈7% more damage if used on a slower weapon. The difference in windup speed is noticeable and the quick version mat be better for punishes.
TL; DR: Bloody Slash only scales with ARC and not AR - so use on Occult for best results (Blood/Poison will always be worse). If used with Greatswords/Curved Greatswords/Great Katanas it will deal roughly ≈7% more damage but with a longer windup.

"The damage also scales with the user's Arcane, the Arcane Scaling of the weapon used, and the Weapon's Upgrade Level." The part about the weapon's arcane scaling isnt true. Each affinity has its own arcane scaling which is used for calculation, regardless of weapon. Try for yourself, any weapon with blood affinity vs any weapon with occult affinity. Same damage as long as upgrade level is the same. Occult always more damage due to better multiplier (1.45 vs 1.8). This is true for all AOW where youre not hitting with your weapon but spawning something instead.

literally mortal draw from sekiro. meant for crazy high dmg and stagger, down to the very animation used.
Love to see how many hosts spam this and die from the self damage
- Anonymous
this is actually a goated ash tbh. crazy reach, staggers almost every basic enemy, the bleed dont even matter because the swings themselves hit ridiculously hard
- Anonymous
Very janky hitbox on this thing. Will hit enemies very far forward from you but if they're even slightly to the side it'll be a whiff, even if they clearly were visually "hit" by the animation. There are thrusting attacks with better horizontal coverage than this "slash".
- Anonymous
why does the editor think you have to be close? it has good range but maybe it's relative to the weapon size? the reach of bloody slash on a dismounter is absolutely massive.
- Anonymous
Love that the wiki doesn’t mention what it scales with. Come on, boys. Gotta set the tone.

To anyone reading the description on this page, please erase everything you read from your memory. I just tested the skill myself and not only did the weapon AR come into play, but also the effects on my weapon at the time (Black Flame Blade) were applied. By the way, I have 10 Arcane and still 1 or 2 shot most mobs with this skill.
- Anonymous
Descirption is a bit confusing. It says it doesn't scale off of weapon AR, but AR increasing buffs certainly do increase the damage.

Had to come here to find out why I keep falling over dead in boss fights.
But damn, not going to let go of this beauty.
It has a cost that is otherwise unrelated to the opportunity cost of using other skills and has a payoff to justify said cost. It drains your health in exchange for granting you otherwise unreachable power, something you could considered "cursed" more so than something like Rivers of Blood, which claims to be cursed but doesn't do anything to harm the user in any way, unlike other cursed swords from previous games such as the Chaos Blade, Hiltless, Magic Sword "Makoto" and Chikage, you get the picture. This is as close as you are going to get to a classical "cursed" effect on your blade, alongside Blood Blade and Seppuku (although both of those are sort of lacking in the "power" department by comparison...)

Weird you can put sacred blade on a scythe but not bloody slash.

Step 1: Put this on a basic longsword and spam it.
Step 2: outdamage your favorite weapon.
Step 3: lie down.
Step 4: try not to cry.
Step 5: cry a lot.
Step 6: don't profit

Trying to figure out why I played against someone in PvP and they used this skill and my full health bar got deleted to less than 20 percent in one slash
- Anonymous
Occult is better than blood and 80 arcane is way better than 50 arcane. 80 to 99 is only about 200 more on the zombie in rotview balcony however. 80 arcane deals 3145 damage with occult nagakiba and warhawk's talon. there isn't more damage if the blade hits
- Anonymous
The tracking on this is actually insane: if you target lock and the enemy is behind you, your character will do a 180 to hit the target. This basically mean that you can use it immediately after roll/quickstep, and as long as the target is in range and you don't get interrupted, it will hit 100%.

On my RL1 I've beaten half the game with nothing but a club and longsword with this AoW. It's your best option against hostile NPCs at this point

This move causes a sudden, unavoidable burst of dopamine everytime I use it.

From my testing this does not seem to scale with weapon AR or affinity.
(Damage values against the stormveil troll at 19 Str, 80 Dex, 14 Arcane)
Blood Bloodstained Dagger +18: 1167
Occult Bloodstained Dagger +18: 1198
Occult Bloodstained Dagger +18 with Silver Tear Mask: 1204
Bloodstained Dagger +18 (physical infusions): 1198
Keen Dismounter +0: 335
Keen Dismounter +18: 1284
Keen Dismounter +19: 1335
It DID benefit from Golden Vow (1337 vs 1198).
Blood infusion damage is slightly lower, probably to balance blood infliction.
It applies the burns from blackflame and bloodflame blade, but NOT their additional damage.
In conclusion, your weapon affinity and stat investment barely matter. It is good as long as you can upgrade your weapon, but probably not much beyond.

This skill does less damage when Blood infused compared to physical infusions, so if you want more bleed buildup just use a physical infusion and buff with Bloodflame Blade
- Anonymous
I’m trying out a new build and was wondering: if I used Bloody Slash on a weapon, would I still be able to use Bloodflame Blade on it, or does the infusion cancel out the incantation?
- Anonymous
Unlikely to land in PvP, but if you do you have a good chance of one shotting people.
Absolutely amazing skill in PvE. The raw power is a nice option for bleed immune enemies and just a general purpose but cheap nuke. I recommend pairing it with healing magic and/gear that heals you to offset the life loss.

Fast: Daggers, Straight Swords, Curved Swords, Katanas,Thrusting Swords
Slow: Greatswords, Curved Greatswords, Twinblades, Heavy Thrusting Swords
I'm calling them fast and slow but I'm not sure they have a different speed but I think the slow ones cost 1.5 more stamina and deal more damage...

For how odd the hitbox on this is as well as the super telegraphed wind up, it’s virtually unusable in pvp unless someone is braindead enough to stand still. You will very rarely if ever roll catch a player with this. The actual skill needed to line up a hit safely doesn’t warrant losing a big chunk of hp from self damage either

You can perfectly refund the HP loss by putting this on the Serpent God Curved Sword (or holding it in the offhand) and equipping the taker's cameo

"The attack itself does not cause any bleed build-up."
This is incorrect, at least as of version 1.07.1. I just tested this specifically by equipping Bloody Slash on a poison dagger +0 since I was curious to see if the ash of war would apply the same status as the weapon. Testing against Adan Thief of Fire (who is weak to both poison and bleed), I was able to cause poison with a few R1s but Bloody Slash would not actually proc poison. Instead, it proc'd bleed after 5 or so hits, despite the weapon itself having no bleed effect of any sort.
- Anonymous
The hp loss is not like a cost but rather similar to damage as a side effect. So while enjoying performing this beautiful and powerful skill, if you don't have enough hp to feed the blade, the game won't stop you from activating it (unlike summoning the mimic tear); instead, you'll die just at the moment when your other hand gently grips and caresses the sharp blade as you once again drawing your own blood for limitless power!

I'm doing a daggers only run with the Great Knife from the Bandit class and the Reduvia. I put this thing on the Great Knife and it works out fairly well for me and actually makes power-stancing daggers more palatable. This skill is strong, and it reminds me of old school arcade brawlers where using the special skill uses your health bar.
- Anonymous
"Damage increases with the Arcane stat, regardless of Affinity chosen."
It might, but your Affinity still factors into the final damage.
"The attack itself does not cause any bleed build-up."
But it will carry weapon buffs, allowing it to apply Bleed via Bloodflame Blade.

Because throwing your own blood onto somebody else makes them bleed

Put it on a serpent curved sword, use takers cameo or Rykard's great rune, add in ancestral spirit horn and you essentially one-shot every pve enemy for free.
Super good for coop when you are low on flasks.

I think I know how I'll be able to play through faith arcane build early on now.

Still my main go to ash 130 hrs in my first playthrough. With a health regen incant on (plus the critical health and mana restore talismans on) I can pretty much spam it as much as I want. It shreds through most types of enemies and it looks so damn cool to boot.
- Anonymous
lol this needs to be nerfed hard. a lot of you dont invade or have never been in a 1v4 and it shows. killing scrubs that main rivers of blood, body piler or moonveil has been especially a treat for me since it is the only way they know how to play the game. turn your brain on, stop being sheep and make your own build.

A common staple of low level pvp. Range is inconsistent and wonky, damage is alright, usually like a jump attack. It is of course incredibly telegraphed and easy to punish with a crossbow or anything ranged. Or you can jump attack and break them out of it.
The self damage means it can be high risk high reward. To new folks often risk. Ive seen hosts invaders and phantoms off themselves with it all to often.
Truly bloody slash has a special place in my heart. Its what i used to kill margit, godrick and rennala on my first playthrough. This was before the nerf of course. Now id use it vs margit and thats it really. A shame but understandable.
The fact it throws your Maidenless Blood upon foes pleases me.

this thing is actually destroying everything the whole game on my uchi

On the bastard sword and 55 arcane this shreds .I swear it didn’t take any hp all this week until now though

Honestly feels like they should just remove the FP cost entirely, I don't see a reason why it should also cost FP on top of HP.

Am I the only one who thinks the basic idea behind this is kinda gross?

best ashe of war in the game so far - running around underlevelled in Leyndell (at lvl 50).

Addendum on 1.03: Yeah it got nerfed, bu it's still really good.
The health damage is more noticeable but still reasonable, the wind-up is slower but it's still usable in the same situations in terms of speed, and the damage is still great. Don't drop this because of the surface-level "this got nerfed" line of thought, it's still more than worth taking and shreds much of the early to mid-game.

I've tested it and it looks like the damage is not a fixed 130 HP, but about 0.05×HP + 50 rounded down. So the person who did this test probably had 1600-1619 HP.
- Anonymous
For those wondering how powerful this ash of war is now, it deals 2.5×Damage of 1H R1 (One-handed R1). So if you deal 520 damage with an 1H R1, it will deal 1300 damage.

50hours of gametime and my build is completely ruined… i guess dual katana or magic build is only “allowed” build to play according to devs…

Finally a nerf for this. It’s stupid that 7/10 pvpers use 1-hit bleedproc because ”i must be op”. Next up bleedproc and moonveil and we can finally enjoy pvp.

Does at least 20% less damage now for me post-nerf. Disappointing.

I've been using this on twin great daggers. For 40 hours I've not been invaded and been thankful because I've seen how wild peoples builds are. In the last 30 mins I've been invaded twice and both times made short work with this Ash

Great weapon art, even if you not doing a bleed build the damage is still really good. Enjoy it while it last, FS will probably nerf it.

damn this one is really op on my +24 uchi it deals 1100 damage to bosses (40 arcane, 45 dex)
- Anonymous
For me at 41 Vigor, using the skill does only 60 damage which is 4% of my max HP (1520), i don't know where people got the 10% figure from

Most OP weapon art, hits for 500 against basic mobs on my +0 Noble's Estoc, if it scales with Arc and builds bleed I'm abandoning my plans for a dual estoc build and going bleed lol

610 damage when hitting ancestor spirit's head on a +5 uchigatana at 18 dex. This is gonna be huge later on

For all the people who complain that Souls games need an easy mode, this is for you. Hits like a friggin freight train against almost every enemy type and I'm not even specced for it (I have 8 Arcane). If you want to melt bosses without wasting time learning their patterns or developing mastery with combat, this bad boy is for you. You just gotta pay for this power with a little blood.

If Fromsoft does nerf this then they would have to remove the health or focus cost or it's useless with high risk.
- Anonymous
Put this on the Serpent God's Sword, and the swords HP on kill effect will *nearly*, not completely, counteract the health cost. Beastial Vitality can also help to mitigate the health loss with a little bit of Faith investment. With it's low FP cost, this can be a very powerful skill in if you can mitigate the health loss.
- Anonymous
It does very little damage and the massive health and FP it costs is not worth it. (Pls don't nerf)
Also to the others asking yeah it scales with arcane.
