Black Flame Tornado is a Skill in Elden Ring. Black Flame Tornado is a regular skill that can be used by equipping the Godskin Peeler twinblade weapon. It can also be applied to weapons using the Ash of War: Black Flame Tornado.
How to get Black Flame Tornado
- The default skill on the Godskin Peeler twinblade.
- Ash of War: Crumbling Farum Azula: Dropped by the Godskin Duo Boss inside the Dragon Temple area. Elden Ring Map Link.
Elden Ring Black Flame Tornado Guide, Notes & Tips
- This is an Ash of War Skill, associated with the Ash of War: Black Flame Tornado.
- FP Cost: 30
- This Skill is Chargeable, but does not get a damage increase by the Godfrey Icon, charging also does not increase FP cost.
- This skill deals multiple hits in a row but does not add stacks towards the effects of the Winged Sword Insignia, Rotten Winged Sword Insignia, Millicent's Prosthesis, or Thorny Cracked Tear.
- Weapon status build ups and elemental damage will be ignored by this skill. Meaning it will not cause e.g. Bloodloss Buildup or deal lightning and fire damage on a weapons set to the Blood or Lightning Affinity.
- Removes any applied weapon buffs upon use, even Black Flame Blade.
- The fire damage always scales with Faith, regardless of set affinity.

This works with the godfrey icon even though it seems like it’s only 11% instead of 15%
Test it yourself on something you can’t one shot with it.

This is a pretty overrated aow. The charged version takes like 4 seconds to cast and it has no hyperarmor. Only does like 2k damage, which a few aow equal; Giant Hunt, Sword Dance and Stormcaller (which is basically a better version of this.

Has any one done any damage calcs as to how much of a percentage this weapon art done? I know that since it's black flame it does percentage based damage, but how much are we talking about? 2.5%? 5%? And how much is it when charged vs uncharged?

Melts Melania, Black Knife Alecto, Dragonlord Placidusax, etc. Easily among the very best skills in the game, it's the fastest way I know of to melt Melania's healthbar in under a minute without having some OP build or having mastered buffs and menu swapping. The attack stunlocks her and the ending slam knocks her flying into the air. She will often cancel animation through the ending slam into one of her many one hit kill attacks, thereby ending the fight, but with good enough rng you can chain a few of these together and melt her first phase in seconds. Works on second phase two, but you need a lot of luck getting that kind rng in back to back phases.

fire scorpion charm, shard of alexander, red feather talisman, fire shrouding tear, flame grant me strength, golden vow

> The fire damage always scales with Faith, regardless of set affinity.
that implies that regardless of affinity it would do the same damage provided the same faith level.
this needs to be tested, i'll try and reply to this once i've done it. as that almost implies you can use full dex but have 80 faith as well, gaining full damage scaling from dex and from faith despite your weapon not having faith scaling.

I'm surprised how little I hear about this. Especially against larger bosses, this just very well might be the most powerful ash of war in the entire game. Though that's probably because of it being near the very end of the game, but this thing shreds Placidusax and Elden Beast.
- Anonymous
It can be difficult to pull off against faster bosses but if you can it hits like a truck. I just beat Astel in like, 5-6 uses. And my faith is only level 30 (At least, I think it scales with faith).

friendly reminder to not immediately buffer 50 rolls once you get hit by the first swirl, you're just going to get rollcaught by the slam and die

I love this ash so much. It's damage is already decent even without the blackflame DoT. but if you stack it with flame grant me strength and the flame shrouding cracked tear, it's damage is just stupid at that point.

Sucks all the fun out of building around this art... None of this is explained in game, very counter-intuitive, and frankly a very feelsbad way of balancing - respecced into a godslayer build only to find it doesn't work the way one would expect. Idk why they don't just nerf the art if it's too strong for building around, and hiding the non-interaction is never gonna feel good for anyone

It has a set minimum stamina cost for which you can use it in full, but the charging animation will drain stamina on every individual spin, so it's pretty likely to drain all of your stamina, meaning you won't be able to use it again in quick succession.

Well, they DID say the black flame could slay gods...
Well, good news ladies, gentlemen, and non-binary finery, you sick of the Elden Beast? Do I have the weapon art for YOU!

This is the best thing for new game +7 since the percentage based damage can destroy bosses' huge hp bars.
- Anonymous
does anyone know if this is classified as "fire damage"? wanna know if Fire Scorpion Charm works with this.

One detail that the game doesn't tell you is that each tick of this skill applies the Blackflame DOT. And, it can stack with itself. So if you're fighting a boss and they are left open for a long time.. using this will melt a chunk of their healtbar.
Very strong agaisnt larger and slower bosses wth massive amounts of HP.
Also, whether you charge this skill or not, it always consumes the same amount of FP - so it's more FP efficient to fully charge this skill (although you might not always get the chance to do so).

Only with this skill I could finish my no heal run against Elden Beast. Well, with it and with a lot of luck, I guess.
It's actually amazing how utterly broken the damage is after the buff. It's literally an order of magnitude more damage than most other options. Black Flame Ritual is a joke in comparison.

I just randomly threw this on in pvp and it seems like once you're caught in it you take the full combo. Not sure how it interacts with different poise, but so far once they get caught in it it does nearly 1.5-2k dmg. 75 fth, cross-naginata flame art ash. I'm guessing this skill is bugged because it seems inescapable.

Im leaving this as a general suggestion to any elden ring dev who may read this.
Ashes of War are super cool, some of them are even super powerful but some scale off stats a weapon dosnt have yet you can still put it on that weapon, so I thought of a compromise: instead of making an ash of war scale off of its own internal stats and typing, just have them scale off of the strongest form of scaling on the weapon it can be applied to and if it would be absurdly overpowered than just dont allow it to be applied to that weapon. This way, non faith builds can still get use out of faith scaling ashes of war and in other cases any type of build user can enjoy more kinds of ashes of war instead of needing to conform to a specific playstyle just to get decent use out of it.

After the latest update this weapons Ash of war got buffed. It now applies the Blackflame DOT on a target and hits everytime the weapon makes physical contact. Though since the Faith scaling on this weapon is only at C you won't get the best damage out of the Ash of War. Try finding a weapon that can scale at B or A and pump up your Faith to 99 since the Ash of War has a damage multiplier based upon your Faith stat meaning the soft caps do not affect it's scaled damage and at 99 Faith with a B or A scaling weapon the Ash of War will absolutely melt everything including end game bosses and is viable in PvP.

Seems this scales with faith even if it's not set to flame art. I tested on the stormveil troll with an un-upgraded Godskin Peeler without any infusions or ash of war equipped(just using the default skill on it). In both tests I had 31 dexterity. The first test with 25 faith did 729 damage, and the second with 30 faith did 735 damage.

By the time this Ash finishes I could have gone out for cigarettes and came back. The stagger potential is also non existent. I can stagger a Revenant with Eleonora's AND jump back but the baton spinning does absolutely nothing and there's no hyper armor that will protect you until you do the final big hit
- Anonymous
genuine question, if im hoping to get higher dps out of this would it be better to spec into dex and have it on keen or to spec into dex and faith and have it on flame art? has anyone tested it? im assuming flame art with higher faith would buff the ash more but im not sure how drastic the change in dmg would be, or if its more worth to just go into dex instead.

Does black flame tornado damage scale in damage when you upgrade godskin peeler?
- Anonymous
The talismans that “Increase damage with consecutive hits” don’t work with this sadly, just tested it.
- Anonymous
Currently, just after patch 1.04, the effect of Black Flame over the blade remains for a split second if you roll cancel it. However, this does not actually count as Black Flame nor does it add damage or a DOT.
This is with the Godskin Peeler at least, I don't have the Ash of War so I can't test it on other weapons but I don't know why it would be different.

Your weapon Now has a hitbox while swinging and is roll cancellable before the final slam

Despite the wiki stating this skill is "chargeable" the damage isn't boosted by Godfrey icon. Might be a glitch.

If you're having trouble with the fire giant, always summon dudes dual wielding Eleonora's PB and GS Peeler. Even as a host, do them a favor and always aggro the giant on second phase and they'll lead you to victory. This ash of war is absolutely broken, literally melts fire giant's sponge hp, scoring 8-11k damage even with the crappiest of builds.

Rivers of blood skill plus mimic tear, no spells except for "giantsflame take thee" for during her 2nd phase when she comes crash to the ground. Just let the Mimic agro her from the start and then go in and keep up the pressure, only letting up to regain stamina and top up HP. Maybe another spell might work better for her second phase crash landing, but giantsflame does good damage to her and if charged will knock her off her feet. Maybe a cheesy way to when, but you do what you gotta' do to beet a boss that cheeses half of her attacks.

There is a wind up but if you time it right and you catch somebody with this the fight is over.

Absolute beast against big slow high hp enemies. Hitting a certain end game dragon for 5k each fully charged art. Black flame is weak against low hp opponents though.
- Anonymous
This plus Blackflame Monk Amon are incredibly powerful against Radagon and Elden Beast, I managed to accidentally melt Elden Beast while I was trying to test the beast repellant torch on him, on that subject I had the beast repellant torch equipped and elden beast's grab attack didnt damage me, if anyone else can test that feel free.

Ok but situational. Actually great at cheesing through NPC invasions. Most of the time They seem to read it as an opening and try to dash right in. Anastasia, bless her heart, does not know what to do. Dungeater was the most inconsistent, he would simply ignore it and hit you anyways.
Otherwise good on mobs and some bosses if you have the right read but sort of high risk high reward.

You whirl your weapon around repeatedly, creating a whirlwind of black fire that seems to hit for 30-40 damage a hit at minimum stats, and follow up with slamming into the ground for about 350 damage.
Cool for cosplay reasons but most mobs can penetrate the whirlwind and the wind-up for the AOE slam is too long to make it practical in most situations

i replaced this ash of war with another one, now how do I equip this one again?
For anyone who may be curious as to how much damage it can do, I was looking at Bushy's No Stat Run video (timestamps: 54:28 and 56:36) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pr6aKOLdSfo. I chose that because he used the Black Flame tornado on Elden Beast and had no Faith/Fire increasing boosts from Talismans, Armor, Physick Tears, etc. The only boost to faith he got was from Godrick's Great Rune, so he only would have had 5 points in Faith at most. He was also using an unupgraded Spear with the cold infusion. Because of these factors, I considered this situation a worst case scenario.
Even with all of these factors in mind, with a fully charged attack with the ash of war, 2,982 points of damage was dealt against the Elden Beast in a first playthrough with a health pool of 22,127. 2982/22127 = 0.13477674786459981, meaning it did around 13.5% of the Elden Beast's health in damage. So, that's pretty good. Imagine what you could do with a high-level Faith build, alongside buffs like Golden Vow, Flame, Grant me Strength, Physick with Flame Shrouding Cracked Tear, and a good weapon like the Nightrider's Glaive fully upgraded with the Flame Art Affinity. I imagine that you could do even more damage.
