Wave of Gold

wave of gold
Imbue the sword with bygone golden glory, then fire it at foes.
A wide, golden wave fans out forwards, sweeping through all enemies caught in its path.

Wave of Gold is a Skill in Elden Ring. Wave of Gold is a special skill that is only available for the Sacred Relic Sword, and it cannot be applied on other weapons via Ashes of War.

For those seeking an alternative to the Sacred Relic Sword, consider using Starcaller Cry, the default skill of the Starscourge Greatsword. It proves to be an excellent substitute, especially for individuals with high intelligence (INT), as Starcaller Cry scales with both strength (STR) and intelligence (INT)."

      • Anonymous

does anyone have a good alternative for this while farming in the albinauric spot? id like to speed up my farming but id rather not have to beat the final boss just for a good farming tool

        • Anonymous

For those who say it boosts the acquired runes, it doesn't.
It's a mechanic for wich if you kill a non boss enemy in one it that deals more damage than the enemy hp(150%) you get 20% more runes.

          • Anonymous

Hoping the next patch nukes this skill from orbit in PvP. ~800 damage + FULL knockdown + Massive area coverage = no fun allowed.

            • Anonymous

Where to even begin? A 3 slot spell tied to a dex leaning weapons L2? Same for bolt of granseax. Meanwhile, actual multi-slot spells like elden stars or scarlet aeonia... well... they suck. And why do these L2s even have hyper armor???? And even if it were a spell, it would be too laggy to be fair... dex builds are the most annoying mages.

              • Anonymous

Nobody is really going to talk about how killing an enemy with wave of gold grants more runes than with killing them with the weapon itself?

                • Anonymous

Guys I swear it isn’t broken it just does half your health and covers the largest area of any weapon in the game and costs very little to use repeatedly so it isn’t broken guys trust me

                  • Anonymous

So, I have 200 FP, and I’m able to use this skill 5 times. After using it a 4th time my math checks out, and my status shows I only have 32FP remaining, yet I’m able to use Wave of Gold a 5th time. I wonder why this is?

                    • Anonymous

Despite looking very menacing, it only has a ground hitbox so avoiding it in PvP is extremely easy once you realize you can just sprint-jump over it without worrying about misusing a roll due to desync.

                      • Anonymous

Now that we have separate damage scaling for pvp can we please just nuke it into the ground specifically for pvp?

                        • Anonymous

How does this not cost like 100 fp to use? You literally cover the whole map in front of you in massive damage piss lasers.

Advice for those of you who are seeking to gain HIGH levels with this at the famous farming spot (Palace Approach grace). I've dumped many hours into grinding runes here and am now at level 505. At this point it IS slow going to level, so be patient. I average about 10 Million Runes every 30 mins and I plan on going all the way to the max level but I want to share what has worked the best for me thus far and the MOST time efficient. Also I'm on a ps5. Often I'll listen to a podcast on YouTube and put a few hours in here and there so it's not mind-numbing grinding.

At this point I have Sacred Relic Sword at +10, Faith is at 60, I've equipped Shard of Alexander - Ritual Sword Talisman - Sacred Scorpion Charm and Gold Scarab. Also, I'm at NG +2. From this set-up I'm gaining the kill bonus of dealing damage of over 150% of the enemies threshold for 20% extra runes as well.

At this point the "cycle" of shooting this wave to kill enemies is only 1 shot. From the site of grace you will run to the left side along the cliff edge and don't fall into the crack (it's right in front of the grace). Run just slightly to the right and you won't fall in. Stay to the left cliff edge and stop about 8 feet in front of the first Albinauric (slightly past the raised rock to your right). This is the sweet spot. Use Wave Of Gold (WOG) and aim your character slightly to the right as you're pressing the button for WOG. The goal here is for the beam to barely clip the Albinauric on your right (the one across the way) while the bulk of the beam/wave gets sent down the left cliffside and through the middle. You averagely kill the most this way. You'll also learn that you can slightly change the trajectory of your shot as you are firing, by adjusting your camera angle.

This wave (if you're at my stats or close to, have the weapon at +10, etc) should be not only be killing them, but giving you extra Runes. As the wave travels down the hill, stay where you are. We're not killing every Albinauric, that's not time efficient. You'll on average miss about 1-3. Running down the hill to kill 1 or 2 is a WASTE of time... such a waste of time. As the wave travels down the hill you'll obviously see the healthbars light up. Try to time just before the last kill healthbar shows up by going into the map menu and then directing your cursor on to the grace to warp back.

The hardest part is angling the shot to slightly include the 1st Albinauric on the right (across the way) and not quitting out back to the Grace too early after your shot is fired. Remember that the game keeps running when you're in map mode, so you can "prepare" the map to warp back sooner than you might think and enemies are still being killed (off screen) and you're getting their runes. Just don't miss out on runes by warping too quickly either.

Also... don't use chicken feet, Torrent, or run back to the grace. Warping cancels chicken feet buffs and running back to the grace is slower than warping (UNLESS you're on a ps4 with slow load times). IF you're on ps4 then maybe running back is best (and even if you are, farming chicken feet is a waste of time, ps4 people).

Thanks for reading and good luck!

**ALSO, don't mess with that stupid bird and arrows and all that. It's a Waste of time.

Does anyone have any tips or tricks to make this hit the Albinaurics in the farming spot more consistently? Especially that one in the far back right at the bottom of the hill... THAT guy evades it just by sitting there 50% of the time. I've even stood almost right in front of him before, shot Wave of Gold and it STILL missed/ignored him lol

The ash of war skill is *significantly* boosted by upgrading the weapon. With 80 faith, I tried to farm albinaurics but the wave was short and only took down about 1/4th of their health. Went and upgraded it to +9, came back and suddenly I am Death, Devourer of Worlds.

Did they remove the rune boost from this? I'm getting the same amount from albies with every other weapon, and the skill doesn't seem to increase it.

the reason why you get hit by this is because it only has to hit on your opponents screen just like parries.

                                      • Anonymous

This first time I fired off this sword just happened to be at the Albinauric farming spot. My jaw hit the floor! I can kill all of them here in 3 hits, including the 4 red ones down the hill to the left! The first wave almost kills all of them on the first part of the hill. Wow!

I get hit by this a fair distance before it visually actually touches me. Does the wave move faster on the users end?

Did some testing to compare running with Fowl Foot (to preserve buff) versus fast-traveling to Site, in terms of speed:

Running method is only 30secs faster than fast-travel method. On NG+3, took 2.5mins to get to 1m; took 3mins to get to 1m. There’s a bit of a margin for error there, coz i couldn’t bother resetting my runes to zero with each test (maybe someone could do that).

Not worth the effort to run back to Site and fix cameras every run imo (I’m mostly lazy lol).

Pretty sure this weapon art is bugged because I've dodged this thing several times and still get phantom hit by it. I've even bloodhound stepped thru it and it still phantom hits.

I believe there is a hidden 20% buff to rune gain if this either kills or hits an enemy. If I go to one albinauric and kill it (even with this sword equipped) I get 2044 runes (no scarab). If I kill just a single one with wave of gold, I get 2453 runes (20% more).

                                                • Anonymous

So the axe talisman also stacks it only added 30 damage but it took my 2130 to 2160 and that is with out any incantations. lvls at 22 faith 25 dex 40 strength

                                                  • Anonymous

If someone is making a farming build, don't forget the Black Dumpling head + Howl of Shabriri that stacks with Golden vow.

                                                    • Anonymous

Using the damage buff from the Rallying Standard skill of the Commander's Standard increases damage by 20%, which persists after switching, though it's the same buff slot as Golden Vow (12% for ash, 15% for spell), it's a higher damage multiplier than Golden Vow. Further damage bonus can be gained from using Howl of Shabriri, adding another 25% multiplicative damage modifier.

                                                      • Anonymous

Jellyfish Shield gimmick: casting Wave of Gold first, then the AoW of the Jellyfish Shield, it'll still buff the wave with a 20% multiplicative damage buff, for targets it has yet to hit.

However, keeping shield shield in the left or right hand, and the sword in the other, the skill button is of the shield. Two-handing the Jellyfish Shield removes the buff, so quickly swapping or two-handing the shield, before casting the AoW is the only way I managed to get the buff up

I don't think the damage from this is holy damage. It seems like when I tried this on undead/skeleton mobs, they didn't stay dead like they do when I hit them with the inseparable sword.

                                                          • Anonymous

Anyone else notice that wave of gold with this sword gets your more runes per kill at farming spot? Standard attack is c2.5k wave attack is 2,943 (both with scarab talisman and on first play through)

                                                            • Wave of Gold on Sacred Relic Sword is exceptional for farming runes off of the Albinaurics on the downward slope from Palace Approach Ledge-Road grace. A single use of this ability can easily wipe out 10-13 all at once for incredibly efficient farming.

Just putting it out there, because I was wondering whether stats scale this skill's damage so I tested it.

Faith DOES increase this skill's damage. It is a relatively small boost, especially if you're not running a faith build; equipping a talisman like jar shard is way better.
Dex and Strength do NOT increase the damage.
