Lucerne is a Halberd in Elden Ring. The Lucerne scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity, and is a good Weapon choice for melee characters investing in Dexterity that like to deal mainly Pierce damage, from a safe distance.  

 

This polearm features a hard, sharpened beak-like spike attached to its head, designed to pierce armor.

Though designed mainly as a thrusting weapon, its long handle can be utilized to get around an enemy's guard with a sideward sweeping attack.

 

Where to Find Lucerne in Elden Ring

The Lucerne weapon can be found at the following location:

  • Southeast of Highway Lookout Tower in eastern Liurnia of the Lakes, it's found in the battlefield between phantoms and knights, near where the armored giant spawns. From Liurnia Highway North Site of Grace, ride a short ways north. Break some carts to reveal the treasure. [Map Link]

  • Weapon Skill: Charge Forth
  • This weapon can be infused with Ashes of War and buffed with Magic and Consumables.
  • Lucerne can be upgraded by using Smithing Stones.
  • Sell Value:  er runes 13 100
  • Has a high motion value of 125 for its mounted attacks, and thus will do more damage on horseback than other halberds, proportional to its attack rating.
  • NOTE: Patch 1.06 has fixed a bug which caused players to be unable to pierce the enemy's guard.
  • NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below.
  • This is the 2nd best weapon for Keen affinity, next to the Guardian's Swordspear

      People are sleeping on powerstanced lucernes. That L1 with the sweep and then the poke is very difficult to deal with in PVP, especially with the new 1.10 update

            One notable strength of this weapon is easy access to the Golden Halberd / Nightrider Glaive's slam-down R2 (instead of the usual halberd double-spin-when-charged R2) which I think is a better R2 for poise breaking (pretty sure the full animation length is faster than the double spin so you can squeeze it into more situations). This weapon weighs less and has much lower requirements than the other two weapons with the same R2, and it uses 27/37 stamina per uncharged/charged R2 where the other two use 34/46 stamina, making it easier to have stamina left to roll afterward. Also worth noting its Keen scaling is 1.63 while its Heavy scaling is 1.46, although if you're two-handing then your damage will still grow faster on Heavy.

              This with 80 arcane and poison is insane gets about 159 ish poison at +24 most people in pvp will get poisoned in about two to three hits!

                    I did some light testing of the Lucerne vs the Vulgar Militia Shotel as they are similar.
                    The Lucerne has a similar shield pierce on its sweeping attacks (any attack that looks like it would go around a shield) but not its thrusts, while the Shotel has it on all. I can't say exactly on the % for the Lucerne as it was Pierce vs Standard and I can't find the defenses of a Godrick Soldier, however it is similar. Because the Lucerne doesn't shield pierce on its thrusts, I couldn't directly compare it to the Shotel which does shield pierce on thrusts.
                    The heavy attack on the Lucerne is a heavier version of its light but has hyper armor (I think) and i prefer it to the Shotel's heavy sweep. Their running attacks are the same.
                    The Lucerne takes a little less stamina to swing than the Shotel.
                    The Pierce damage type makes it better for trading but not ideal for elemental infusions.
                    The Shotel afaik is better on an elemental infusion and because it eats through shields better, however the Lucerne is still good enough.
                    I think they both have their places and are similar yet different enough to not outright outclass each other, however enjoyers of either will find them both good to use.
                    The Lucerne is also slightly longer than the Shotel.
                    The Lucerne is more appealing to me than the Shotel now as I like trading attacks.

                      The only halberd whose primary damage attribute is Pierce, meaning most ashes of war that use the weapon for damage will also deal Pierce damage; the middle of the pack on the damage/weight ratio, but also the one with the most range.

                      • I love the Lucerne but I really wish they would let us utilize the hammer. They could make the R1s Strike damage from the hammer and give us thrusting R2s that do Pierce. Not only would that be cool, but it would set the Lucerne apart from the other halberds and make it a little more unique.

                          Historically the Lucerne and it's counterpart Bec De Corbin were both used primarily for piercing armor. While it would be nice to have some strike hits, that was never it's main purpose and I think it makes more sense to do thrust.

                            125 MV for light attack, 156 for heavy attack and 53 + 200 for charged attack.

                            The norm for halberd's is 110, 140 and 50 + 180

                            This weapon has the highest MV for horse attacks please edit that in.

                              Just spent a considerable amount of time bullying soldiers of Godrick in Limgrave to test out the thrusting counter attacks on this weapon.

                              Despite it being changed to only pierce damage as of 1.06, the only attacks that can deal counter-attack damage are the running light, backstep light, and standing heavy. The standing heavies are especially nice since you can adjust the timing to land the counter-attack.

                              These all work both 1H and 2H. However, I recommend 2H to take advantage of this weapon's high poise damage and hyper-armor.

                              Any thrusting AoW (Charge Forth, Impaling Thrust, Repeating Thrust, etc.) can deal counter-attack damage, as well as a few others I found while testing which are: Stormcaller, Storm Assault (2nd hit only), Glinstone Pebble (2nd hit only), and Spectral Lance.

                              There may be others, but these are the only ones I've found so far.

                                Really could’ve been one of the best halberds in the game, even with its lower damage.

                                It could’ve used the hammer-side for some attacks and then either the beak or the spearhead for others.

                                But nope, for whatever reason it’s just a vertical-chop halberd with pierce damage and lower damage.

                                • The Lucerne's main advantage is giving low-strength builds access to the Halberd's excellent moveset, specifically this weapon's heavy downward slam R2's/sweep R1's. In addition, these R2's also pierce allowing for some deceptively strong hits on mid-animation enemies.

                                  To take advantage of the piercing R2's (and the Lucerne's lower base damage for a halberd) sticking to physical damage is a good option. A high dexterity build is an excellent choice to maximize this halberd's damage, as it allows you to use Keen as well as Cold infusions due to both of their strong scaling.

                                  I struggled to find a good Ash for this until I tried Ice Spear, ironically located right next to where you grab the Lucerne. The speed of halberd's moveset compared to how much frost it applies means frostbite procs extremely quickly, and the physical damage stays very strong. I haven't played the older souls titles, so I don't know what former glory people are describing. For me, the frosty Lucerne has about every tool I've needed for a variety of enemies in one light package.

                                      This deserves a unique charged heavy attack that is a 2-hit combo; First hit a backswing using the hammer that causes strike damage, transitioning into a thrust attack afterwards.

                                        Guys I know the weapon isn't the best but it's not as bad as you guys are saying. this is the lightest and shortest halberd in the game and its even lighter than some spears. It's AR I think is not far off from the cross naginata (basically a halberd in the spear class due to its moveset). It does need a buff like making all its attacks deal pierce damage, and increasing the damage more akin to the halberd or banished knight halberd (as it's only 1 unit lighter). it would be a balanced trade off with those weapons because it has way less range.

                                        I feel like this weapon was designed to be a spear class weapon in this game but the devs realized last minute that it's supposed to be in the halberd class, they then just change the animations, along with using standard halberd data and did nothing else. idk it's just my theory on why only the running R1 does pierce and why it took them so long to add the guard pierce ability

                                            With the Lucerne+0 I did 13 damage (light attack), when the shield was up. With a strong attack it was 49. So ~3x the damage.
                                            With the halberd it was 54 and 127 -> so ~2,5x damage.

                                                    Absolutely depressing damage values aside, this is the only halberd besides the golden halberd to get the overhead heavy rather than the sweep, which could be useful.

                                                    • Ran some tests in a calculator to see if I could make it work and there's ALWAYS a better option than this. It has crap damage, only beating out the Pest's Glaive (except on a high level quality build) and always coming short to other halberds. Plus it has lower reach than normal for halberds.

                                                      From, please make it all piercing damage again so it at least does something useful. I miss Lucy...

                                                        I honestly don't see why people are saying this weapon is bad compared to its ds3 version. Sure, it doesn't have a true combo like it used to but apart from a few weapon skills and obscure techniques (like jumping attack into regular attack for heavy thrusting swords) no weapon in this game does. It has the very versatile moveset of halberd classes with the decent variation of the charged attack - the double spin one being pretty useless both in PVE and PVP. Indeed, the regular attack chains doesn't have pierce damage BUT the charged attack definitely does so with good timing you can pull out some hefty damage numbers with it !
                                                        Of course there are some better alternatives like the nightrider glaive but don't underestimate this weapon, for its low weight and low requirements it's still a solid choice. I use it with Giant Hunt and for maximum satisfaction.

                                                          This weapon seems to stun enemies when used 2H like the brick hammer, and if it is also acting like a shotel and doing damage through armor that makes this an incredible weapon regardless of its "low damage".                                                                     Oh how mighty have fallen, though it is one of the lightest halberds with it loss of dealing only pierce damage, damage wise it losses to most other halberds, in some cases even to militia halberds and pest glaive which have unique properties and are heavier by 1 unit... Mind you its not the longest halberd or has even that good moveset now making it obsolete practically for all builds, sure you can find it just lying about, but by farming any enemy that drops halberds, or even buying regular one would be more worth of your time... it needs buffs...

                                                                            Moveset is still fun, even without the combo attack. I’ve found putting endure on it allows you to be unstaggerable while fully charging a heavy attack. Good for stunning, and heavies on horseback make enemies fly

                                                                                    The strengths of this weapon have shifted considerably, and it's no longer the same beast it usd to be.

                                                                                    The "old" lucerne is kill. ER Lucerne no longer has thrust damage on most hits, and the 2 and 3 hit combos from DS3 are gone as well, meaning you won't be stunlocking anyone for 1k damage in a single combo anymore.

                                                                                    The new benefits of Lucerne are low requirements, guaranteed "drop" and low weight. If you're a pure faith build and enjoy glaive moveset, you don't have to invest 26 points into strength to use Night Cavalry Glaive or Gargoyle Halberd, both of which weigh 12 units; instead you can get to 15/12 7.0 weight Lucerne and pump remaining points into more Vigor or endurance to wear better fashion/higher poise. This, obviously, becomes less of an advantage as you level up.

                                                                                    The alternatives to Lucerne for low stat investment are Pests Glaive (13/13, also 7.0 weight, slightly longer visually, not sure about actual hitbox), Glaive (18/15, 10.0, longer) and Vulgar Militia's Saw (15/13, 8.0, bleed). If you don't care about the looks, Pests Glaive is likely better, as it requires even less stats and seems longer, but you'll have to farm it out. If you prefer the looks of lucerne, it has the same requirements as partisan, keep it in mind if you like the movesets of both and find yourself switching between weapons.

                                                                                          They killed Lucy. She deals standard damage with her attacks instead of Piercing like in ALL of the other games. She's identical to the halberd now except for the fact that she has *slightly* better dex scaling. RIP Lucerne + Spear Talisman(Leo Ring) combo, I wanted to use you in this game as well. :(
