Golden Halberd is a Halberd in Elden Ring. The Golden Halberd scales primarily with Strength, Faith and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for dealing Holy Damage in addition to Physical Damage during combat. It is complemented with the Golden Vow Skill that increases the attack power and defense stats of the user, as well as allies within range.

Weighty halberd forged of gold. Wielded by the Order of Tree Sentinels, heavily equipped knights.
Deals holy damage.

A masterfully crafted weapon that lives up to its heft, but is difficult for one mere human strength to wield.

The Golden Halberd can kill miners when using two handed.

I started as a Samurai on my first playthrough, after 2 hours of trying finally managed to kill the tree sentinel, immediately put the levels to wield it because I was not gonna let it rot in my inventory. Best decision! Carried me for a while, big enemy with shield? Golden Halberd, small enemy no Shield? Uchigatana, kept switching between this two, and when I finally found my first mine, and saw that the Katanas were bouncing and doing no damage to the miners, the Two handed Golden Halberd helped me A LOT, this weapons wrecks miners when two handed, I didn't have a mace or anything like that, but didn't need to, this halberd is amazing!

Weird, see more hate then i thought on this weapon , i decided to give it an early test run, i used to go with uchigatana early game and the usuall bloodhound fangs, but god danm the golden halberd just wrecks dmg wise and stance breaks everything easily, i got no idea why people say it sucks its outdamaging my old uchigatana builds or bloodhounds, the recovery sucks yes but dmg wise it doesnt lose to those, unless there is a some high degree of holy resistance but it still gives good dmg overall just the physical bit, specially since it scales higher with str, but i guess since end game bosses are resistant to holy people say it probably sucks, well this is an early game weapon not to be used in end game, you can but there's better that's for sure, but early game, it's awesome, i'm clearing alteous plateau and i'm lvl 80 and it still destroys everything, the move set it is also ok, specially since the sprint r1 hit has a pierce atack as well, i dunno i think most people say it sucks because since you see holy it sucks imediatly, just because of the last few bosses being immune to holy... kinda silly.

It says "As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed.", but i can't find that change in the patch notes. The patch notes only mention Colossal Sword / Greataxe / Hammer / Flail / Great Hammer / Colossal Weapon

I posted here maybe over a year ago that this weapon makes 99 vigor and 20 strength, blue feather, tree sentinel armor a threat in pvp. Hyper armor changes now make this build busted. I can win trades against collosals and poise through great swords. And nobody expects the guard counter in pvp which hits for 600 even through someone else’s hyper armor. Not to mention, magic fortification + hyper armor is stronger than barrier of gold ever was. And I’ve got holy ground on rickety shield to make my blue feather zone absurd. I could go on indefinitely about how the simplest build in the game with no L2 is the best build despite L2denring… the hatemail is proof.

Hot take: the Troll's Golden Sword or the Treespear go better w/ a Tree Sentinel set-up than this does. Treespear for the ability to shield poke w/ the Erdtree Greatshield, and the Troll's Golden Sword for the ability to use Golden Land plus the moveset is just all-around very good.

The Halberd moveset is sort of a mixed bag (the first R1 slamming the ground has never sat right with me, even in the previous games) and the Golden Vow skill is pretty ass especially since your Faith will likely/should be high enough to just use the spell variant which is better in every way.

I love this weapon, I really do, I just kinda wish it had some horizontality in its moveset. The halberd class was practically made for vertical / poke light attacks, and sweeping heavy attacks. It does great damage, I kinda just wish that R2 wasn't slamming the axe head into the ground like it's a hammer

Highest guard boost of all halberds + golden bow will shrug off most attacks. Been testing the blocking with the runebear next to the siofra river well in caelid and only the strongest attacks could come close to guard-breaking me.

excuse me fextra? "but starting with the Prophet class with get the player to hitting them faster"? vaga literally has no stats wasted when levelling to this weapon's requirements, meanwhile prophet not only wastes 4 levels in faith (when talking about requirements, it also needs to put in 6 more levels in str and dex! why would you put in such a useless bit of info that's not even correct when you could instead mention that this is one of the "chop" halberds.

                        • Anonymous

Pairs nice with the Dragon Halberd which is quite close to Limgrave. Anything resistant to Holy damage probably doesn't resist Frost Lighting damage!

Just beat the game with this weapon. Absurd damage with 55 strength and 40 faith. Paired with icon shield and dew talisman pluse Erdtree blessing you will out last most in a fight. Such a satisfying weapon.

When did this become the go-to weapon for speed runners and why?
Heavy, slow attacks, slow recovery, scales on faith(the worst stat in the game),requires fighting a skippable boss. Surely the uchi that the samurai starts with is infinitely better? faster attacks, less stamina use, wield requirements met from spawn, innate bleed, just as fast if not faster to stagger, regular stones to upgrade and you change ash of war if you have a skill/scaling or damage type that would suit your needs at that particular moment better.

PS I know that the serpent hunter was the common choice for a long time, due to not having any wield requirements,I was talking about uchi since samurai is by a very wide margin the most commonly used start class. But the serpent hunters existence makes golden halbed choice even wierder, one is a slow heavy weapon you can wield for free and can get without fighting the other is a slow heavy weapon whose damage output is crippled by trading physical for holy damage. So, what changed?

                              • Anonymous

I beat nearly every major boss in the game with this weapon. Even for bosses with high holy damage negation, I'd usually try other weapons first, then fall back to this one which always got the job done. It's much faster than most other weapons of the same size/damage output. Main drawback is lack of choice of Ash of War, but the fixed ash does give a very noticeable boost. Very easy to land strikes on most enemies because it has lots of big horizontal arc swings, which are great for fast enemies and groups, especially when you go at them with a jumping r2 attack. The r1 attack is also good at stopping flying/jumping attacks dead. I try lots of other weapons but this one is my one true love.

Use this against anything not resistant to Holy.

Use Magma Scalesword against anything that is.

Two Somber Str/Fth weapons for any situation.

It’s literally the perfect weapon for this ash of war. The entire move set with its massive damage makes up for the lack of offense L2. I use GH on a tanky team healer with a few bestial incantations. Base 30 str with 45 fth and I can still do 550+ damage against mage types and 370+ against meta pvp builds. The L2 is meh in pvp but it hides the effects of barrier of gold in invasions. To be clear it doesn’t overwrite BoG but it masks it. Spamming L2 for a buff every 30 seconds is also really stylish and has saved hosts in boss fights a few times. Any time I end a duel at 30 or so hp, the ash saved me.

Running poke phantom range makes this feel like the longest halberd in game. Also catches jumps unlike any other.

Aside from short range and inability to use custom AoW, it has RIDICULOUS DAMAGE. Like, at 50 Str and 30 Fth, it has ~870 AR which is about 10 AR less than Maliketh's Black Blade which is a colossal sword, lol. On top of that you have Golden Vow that buffs you up even more and you will absolutely shred nearly any PvE enemy aside from bosses resistant to holy, but even then the damage is high enough, because it has around 600 physical AR which is pretty decent on it's own.

Oh, and it looks sexy af. Fits well with Crucible knight armor.

Basically the Black Knight Halberd of this game. It has higher damage than it's counterparts and can be obtained from a very strong knight-enemy right at the beginning of the game. Plus the first R1 is an overhead slash.

                                            • Anonymous

It's a powerful weapon, but the two handed move set is deceptively short. Coming from the Claymore's poke heavy fighting style to this has left me swinging at the air more times than I'm comfortable with. The running light attack does have a decent poke that I can work with, but man, I do miss having range in my attacks.

                                              • Although it's a pretty good weapon on account of pure AR (despite holy damage usually sucking in PvE, the physical damage alone makes it viable), I do feel like the golden vow it uses should be a bit stronger than typical since anyone can slap golden vow on an un-upgraded dagger and buff with it.

                                                • Anonymous

The Ash of war on this weapons seems kinda useless once you reach the requirements to use the golden vow spell.

                                                  • Anonymous

The Holy damage is just a cherry on top. Its phy damage alone beats out most of the other Halberds. If the ash could be changed, every1 would run around with this weapon.

                                                    • Anonymous

Simply the best STR+FAI weapon. Has so much damage, more than almost all other weapons (I also tested the greatest hammers, even better than them) at +10, plus high Holy damage + Golden Vow = even more damage + more defense It's fast to use, faster than you would expect for such an giant weapon. Even enemies, which deal Holy damage themself, eats so much damage with this weapon. And the good thing is, there's another Holy halberd for your 2nd hand, the golden/black halberd from this one gargoyle outside the beast dude. ^^ Imagine two holy halberds with high damage. :D But the Golden Halberd has slightly more damage.

                                                      • Anonymous

Use with base stats. 20 str is enough to dominate pvp. Even more so invasions where vigor is neglected. Malenia/Elden beast were the only boss fights where 20 str +9 golden halberd felt weak and I still pulled through. 99 vigor tree sentinel cosplay is viable at RL 125. You can also level fth instead for heavy regen which is arguably better. Oh and the guard boost on this basically makes it a great shield because of the two handed guard boost bonus. Guard counter will shut down crouch poke spam in duels and they lose the duel when theyve lost initiative.

                                                        • Anonymous

I’m convinced charging the two handed heavy will give hyper armor and even more if you charge a second followup. 60 poise and I’ve poised through other halberds and bosses.

                                                          • Anonymous

When you fight a really difficult boss as a challenge early game but you can’t use the weapon until like 20 lvls later.

                                                            • Anonymous

This was my go to weapon for all game, jumping swipe attack that can be followed up with another swipe that can easily break stance on most things. Since i was a heavy armor with tower shield didnt affect me it wasnt customizable since i had the art that allowed me to block without stamina loss. A beast of a weapon, glad that most people went with cookie cutter builds or they would have put this beauty under the nerf hammer. And since it has low stat cost you can pump on weight loss and then "moves like jagger" using tower shield and heavy armor :D.
The counter easily allows you execute most trash mobs when using a tower shield.

                                                              • Pleasantly surprised with the damage output of this weapon. Basically just made an almost pure tank character and this weapon still does some decent damage on the minimum requirements.

                                                                • Anonymous

When I first got this halberd, for some reason I immediately assumed it would be mediocre at best. This thing is an absolute beast, for one simple reason: it hits HARD. Sure it's split damage, but by RL 150 it can reach an unbuffed AR of over 900 with the right build, which is absolutely insane for an halberd. Its ash of war is not customizable, but it will bump the AR even higher, while also granting some damage absorbtion. Also, this thing seems to deal higher poise damage than most other halberd, while being just as fast. If you're running a STR/FAI build, I definitely recommend checking this out.

                                                                  • Anonymous

For some reason, when I first got this weapon i automatically assumed it would be mediocre at best. This thing is a monster, especially in early game it hits incredibly hard. Only downside is the fact that the ash of war cannot be customized, but golden vow is quite a good buff anyways.

                                                                    • Anonymous

I absolutely adore this halberd. I initially made a memey cosplay build of the Tree Sentinel, primarily using it. I didn't expect much, but as time went on I found that it was rather powerful.

                                                                      Here's why:

                                                                      PROS

                                                                      - One-handed running attack into one-handed L1 is (potentially) a true combo if the enemy panic rolls out of stagger.

                                                                      - Take this with a grain of salt, as I'm not knowledgeable on the proper workings of the poise system, but the Golden Halberd seems to deal immense poise damage, especially at higher upgrade levels. In testing with a friend that had a poise of 73 I was able to consistently stagger him with every move in its set. Again, take this with a grain of salt, this is just some empirical evidence I've gathered.

                                                                      - One and two-handed running attacks EXCEL at rollcatching, as the hit box on the head of the halberd lingers for a significant amount of time after the initial thrust. Excellent for players that prefer to rush down and pressure their enemies.

                                                                      - Its moves are, at least on a relatively scale to other weapons of its size and/or class, very fast to come out and very quick to recover from. With the exception of heavy attacks, you can safely throw out moves with thing weapon and often still have time to evade a counterattack.

                                                                      - Somewhat minor, but since its Ash of War is Golden Vow, it saves me a slot when equipping other buff incants for fights, slightly saving time on having to scroll through all of them.

                                                                      - If building for Strength and Faith, this weapon is for you, and has the added bonus of working in a bestial incant build, since the clawmark seal scales well with both stats as well.

                                                                      CONS

                                                                      - Does not work well with low poise. While its moves are fast and non-committal, that speed it relative to halberds and larger weapons. Smaller weapons such as straight-swords, katanas, thrusting swords, etc. will still be able to punish your attacks. Thus, having high poise to compensate is recommended.

                                                                      - No Ash of War customization, nor buffs/infusiions. While Golden Vow is an amazing buff to have constant access to, regardless of build provided the faith req is met, not being able to flesh out the weapon with other moves, is a definite dissapointment. That, and not being able to infuse it to adapt it into other builds.

-Take this with a grain of salt, but at least in the case of my rushdown-focused playstyle, this weapon utterly devours stamina. Pack a turtleneck or watch your stamina management more carefully when using this. It really could just be me, but if you do decide to use this weapon, be sure to feel it our for yourself, and act accordingly.

                                                                      • Really overrated weapon, at +9 with 48 str and 25 faith it barely does damage in early/midgame areas. It looks cool at least tho...

                                                                        • Really overrated weapon, at +9 with 48 str and 25 faith it barely does damage in early/midgame areas. It looks cool at least tho...

I bully collosal users with this weapon. I believe charged r2s get hyper armor or at least reset poise. Super high base damage but terrible scaling: use with base stats and invest in fth/end instead of str

                                                                            • Anonymous

Once you get the hang of it, you can unearth them with fully charged heavy attack safely, follow up with another while they recover and then just finish off with critical. My best run was full clear on 2 health pots.

                                                                              • Anonymous

Don't worry too much about maxing out your stats to wield it, because this thing has such high base damage you almost wonder if it was an oversight; the thing hits harder than some Colossal weapons of the same kind, but with the better reach and speed of the halberd class. Arguably the new "Black Knight's Halberd" from DS1 used to do low-level playthroughs. The only downsides might be the lack of a high-damage weapon art (Golden Vow is good, but redundant with most Faith builds), and that it uses the halberd 'chop' moveset instead of the better 'thrust' moveset.

                                                                                • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

The ash of war ****ing sucks. You can almost get the same AR by buffing with incants + choose your AOW + choose your affinity.

                                                                                    • Anonymous

                                                                                        • Anonymous

I never thought about switching to another weapon because all of them paled in comparison to this beauty. This thing hits as hard as colossal weapons (if not more as i have found it to be still better than many colossal weapons with the exception of Giant Crusher) but weigh much less and has a built-in golden vow incantation, literally busted.

                                                                                            • If you are liike me and care more about Elden Bling, this weapon looks dope af with alot of armor sets. Been using the GH with the golden greatshield the starting grafted scion drops, tree sentiel head and chest Then to stay med roll dragon knight gauntlets (only the right hand shows), and leyendell knight greaves. Around 32 end, great pot arsenal, and erdtree favor keeps me going at night.

Crazy damage(which will probably be nerfed) and a good but not broken move set. Love roll catching noobs. A good R1 delayed running R1 followed by jumping R1 gets them every time.

                                                                                                • Anonymous

On a 55 str 30 faith build this is pretty much the highest damage big weapon I could find. I have a staff of the avatar at +8, and idk if it is the upgrade discrepancy, or simply being outclassed, but the halberd hits so much harder. My only two gripes with the halberd are the weapon art being boring and unmodifiable, and that it uses the choppy halberd moveset instead of the pokey halberd moveset, which i vastly prefer the latter. Overall solid weapon though.

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

I invested those points in Faith anyway so I could still use this for CO-OP.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

With the golden vow WA, howl of Shabriri and Spear talisman, I can easily kill most players in 2 hit. Had an idiot who used rivers of blood near me, backstepped and pressed R1 for a running thrust. Immediately deleted most of his health, and then roll catch him when he tried to roll away with the running R1. It's not a mindless weapon and requires skill and timing, but damn if it doesn't feel rewarding to use.

The notes and tips section says it can't be buffed with magic or consumables, as is per usual on weapons with some sort of damage scaling besides physical, except it then contradicts this by saying you can under the upgrade section. Weighs a ton, the damage is fine but for the stats you can get other high damage options, moveset is pretty ass, locked weapon art is slow and doesn't last long - since you're on a FTH build, just use the spell version. Or you could use commander nial's which has a better buff that can transfer to other weapons. What am I missing?

I'm level 80, rocking this at 40 STR/ 15 Faith, base Dex. It's +8. The moveset is great, backstep to R1 is a great poke, R1 Overhead chop, Jump R2 is a huge sweep. Roll R1 is a short low chop. It's just a good weapon.
