Elden Ring Glintstone Cometshard Guide

  • Glintstone Sorcery
  • Stamina Cost: 28
  • Deals magic damage
  • Can be charged for up to approximately 20-25% increased damage.
  • Can be chain casted.
  • Damage can be boosted by 10% by wearing Azur's Glintstone Crown.  This comes at the cost of a 15% increase in ALL sorcery costs
  • The projectile of this sorcery includes a comet tail (the outer dust of the projectile), dealing damage itself and thus adding a little bit of AoE-damage to the spell. Fired in a group of enemies, it will often hurt also the nearest bystanders of the target.
  • Note: In Patch 1.07, FP cost was reduced from 19 to 17 and damage was increased slightly, as well as stamina damage against guarding enemies. In addition, while not mentioned in the patch notes, the stamina cost was reduced from 30 to 28.
  • Compared to Glintstone Pebble, Glintstone Cometshard costs about 135% more FP, travels 15-20% farther and deals about 70-80% more damage.
  • Compared to Great Glintstone Shard, Glintstone Cometshard costs about 45% more FP, and deals 20-25% more damage.

one of the best punish tools for mages. healing? cometshard. fp flast? cometshard. rebuffing in the middle of the fight? cometshard. its comes out decently fast and does really good damage.

      • Anonymous

should be noted this spell can pierce through several targets, great for corridor fights where enemies are lined up

        • A good strategy with this (or any of the Comet-like spells) is to fully charge one shot as a warning shot, then follow up with an uncharged shot if your opponent tries to roll in and punish. Very good at catching opponents who roll in, but if they just keep running sideways, cast a Carian piercer.

          • Anonymous

Smaller ones have their place, but charging makes this one a go-to for much of the game, balancing efficiency and power with a side of piercing

            • Anonymous

Worth the extra FP for that damage boost
Choosing Glintstone Pebble over this is like saying you want to have to risk longer fights and more dodging

QUESTION; anyone know if, when casting at someone in PVP, the TRAILING portion of the spell will catch someone who rolls into it? As in, if they roll towards me being missed by the main projectile, but land in the comet's trail zone, will they be caught by that damage?

                  Pros:
Can be obtained in the first 30 minutes of the game if you do dragon farm cheese

It punches through all enemies for the same amount of damage. You can take down two or more with one shot if you line them up

it will decimate all early to mid game bosses

Third try: I play with Versiuon 1.03 but the spellcost is 19 still. Is the patch working only with a New Game?

                      • Anonymous

My game is 1.03 BUT the spellcost is 25 instead of the new 19. What am i doing wrong? Is the patch working only with a new game?

                        • Anonymous

Still costs 23fp on my end even with the new patch updated same thing with all the other sorceries. Please help , so I need to start a brand new character to get the FP reduction buff? 100% running new version because hoarfrost is nerfed and there is NPC names on the map. The shield guard boost is also not working :(

Mmmh, the ingame FP costs haven't changed for my ongoing game. Still 25 is shown. Does the patch only take effect on a New Game?

                            • Anonymous

How much did this get buffed by? The patch notes say that both the damage was increased and the FP consumption was decreased. I tried the spell out a little bit originally but it felt ineffective- I want to give it a second try, and having math behind what's changed would be nice on that front.

After much testing, I've found this spell has high efficiency. When charged, it's damage slightly higher then Rock Sling, for 1 more FP after the last patch. And if you can get the Godfrey Icon, it's efficiency jumps way ahead of Rock Sling, almost closing in on Ice Crage when using a certain hat. However, it beats Ice Crage hands down in utility, because Ice Crage has 2/3s the range. But Ice Crage casts faster. Good balance between the two now. Rock Sling meta is over! I still think Rock Sling still has some use as a beginner spell with the Meteor Staff, but when you out grow that thing ditch Rock Sling along with it.

Thanks to the buff it's now the superior sorcery, maybe still not as good as Pebble and Swift but it is now viable to use in PvP

Just did some testing. This is the new best one for dps vs cost. Pebble will always be most efficient, and you should keep it on your build as well, but if you have the mana this is your boss killer

                                    • Anonymous

The FP cost buff feels good now. The damage/fp feels in line with Great Glintstone shard and pebble now so rather than being a waste of FP, if you have a good amount of mind this is a great spell.

                                      • Anonymous

Use Glintstone Icerag instead. It deals roughly the same damage per cast at half the cost and also procs frost. The proc will deal damage and causes all further casts to deal even more damage.
Yes, Cometshard has a little aoe trail, but when you need aoe you will use other spells that are vastly superior at doing that.
This spell is just objectively a bad choice.

                                        • Anonymous

This spell has unlimited penetration. If you get lots of enemies in a line it is vastly superior to pebble.
If you have to fight a boss battle with multiple bosses you can hit 2 or more at once if you can line them up.
I suggest targeting the furthest enemy in a group and moving slightly to make sure the closest enemies also get hit.

Kinda garbage NGL. Only half as FP efficient as Glintstone Pebble with worse DPS. If you want a decent bread and butter spell go for Magic Glintblade instead. And for high burst damage spells there are also far better options that are also available long before you get this like Rock Sling and Great Oracular Bubble. Save yourself the 10k runes.

                                            • Anonymous

Actually good spell , range is far , damage is decent and you can charge it.
I tried it on the giants and they die in 2 full mana bars ( got 108 mana )
