Scatters bloodflame before caster to set area aflame.
![]() |
Bloodboon is an Incantation in Elden Ring. Bloodboon spell scatters bloodflame pools before caster to set area aflame. Updated to Patch 1.07.
Sacred incantation of Mohg, Lord of Blood.
Thrust arm into the body of the Formless Mother, then scatter the bloodflame to set the area ablaze.
This incantation can be cast while in motion.
The mother of truth craves wounds. When Mohg stood before her, deep underground, his accursed blood erupted with fire, and besotted with the defilement that he was born into.
Where to find Bloodboon
Where to find Bloodboon:
- Trade Remembrance of the Blood Lord with Enia at Roundtable Hold.
Elden Ring Bloodboon Guide
- Blood Incantation
- Stamina Cost: 34
- Deals fire damage
- Can be used to spread blood flames in front of the caster and create Status-inflicting area of denial.
- The trick to using this incantation is not to use target lock-on and free aim above the intended target, which will make the projectiles land ON the target instead of hitting their feet.
- The lingering flames will cause Hemorrhage build-up (30/s) on enemies.
- This build-up stacks with each instance of the blood pool, making this spell highly effective at dealing with crawlers like Magma Wyrms and other larger enemies.
- NOTE: Since Patch 1.07 FP Consumption has been Decreased from 15 to 13, and attack power has been increased.

Pocket blood. The perfect tool to escape situations, and harming others.
My troll build isn't complete without you good old Pocket blood.
- Anonymous
It's a fun spell, but overall a bit mediocre. If the casting animation was faster, or the bloodflame lingered a bit longer, it could easily be a great spell.
That said, it's a great "bleed finisher" in pvp if you can manage to cast it at the right time. The buildup over time makes it difficult to roll the bleeding effect.
- Anonymous
There is no reason to have an arcane requirement for an effect that is based entirely on faith. What was the point, other than charging you a visual tax?
- Anonymous
This spell could be utter trash and I'd still use it because I miss free aiming chaos fire balls at gankers. Yes I am a virgin no-life spell casting invader chad. Still better than all press L2 to win players.

I only recently purchased Elden Ring early March and just picked up Bloodboon yesterday but personally I was very disappointed especially after spending a good time trying to defeat Mohg.
Firstly, while I know free aiming it is a lot better, but the auto targeting cast should be for it to actually hit the target not fall infront or at it’s feet, feels a little clunky.
Secondly, they most definitely missed the mark not adding a charged component to the spell changing it from an Arc in direction to a straight line, you know, how actually Mohg uses it. Would be way more practical in PvE giving us the option to either wide spread it or place it directly infront in a line, doing this would definitely fix my issue in my first point. Also not to mention would be buffed with Godfrey Icon.
Lastly out of all the blood incantations, only swarm of flies can be cast on mount very slow and unreliable on quicker enemies and for others on horseback, personally I feel like Bloodboon should be able too giving us a reliable way to deal damage on horseback.
Cool spell, visually awesome, but most definitely could be way more practical.

great incantation for enemies that have annoying input reading dodge like Nox enemies as its wide arc will guarantee you hit them and ofc you'll bleed them pretty fast.

Im 99% sure the reason why arcane doesnt increase build with dragon communion is because each tick applies bloodflame that does static bleed buildup over time, not direct bleed build up. This is true for anything that applies bloodflame (bloodflame blade, talons, etc), so something like swarm of flies will be effected by arcane
- Anonymous
It is not mentioned, but hitting with the Initial cast will Do more damage than the Pool itself
Also casting this with the left or right Hand will Change the arc of the spell
Very fun spell if u get a hang on it for a while.

As I couldn't find any proven facts, I tested whether bloodboon and bloodflame talons get any bleed scaling from the Dragon Communion Seal. I used the Godslayer's Seal as comparison. Tested on flame peak snow trolls and albinaurics.
Dragon Communion seal +10 with 70 arcane:
-Snow troll and albinaurics both bleed on the last hit of bloodboon, assuming they stand in the full aoe.
-Bloodflame talons takes 3 casts to bleed the snow trolls. 3 additional casts after the first bleed will proc bleed again, if the target doesn't run away.
Godslayer's seal +25 (no arcane scaling):
-exactly the same test results for both spells as with the arcane scaling Dragon Communion Seal.
Conclusion: at 70 arcane and fully upgraded, one would expect faster bleed procs from the Dragon Communion Seal than from a seal that doesn't scale with arcane. Therefore it's safe to assume that all the blood spells share the behaviour of bloodflame blade, where the bleed per second values cannot be increased in any way, other than multiple casts.

I recommend not locking on with this. Try throwing the blood just behind a player and they will likely walk into it, or at the feet of enemies or bosses for fast bleed build, especially when combined with bloodflame talons.
- Anonymous
We are born of the blood, made men by the blood, undone by the blood; Fear the old blood
This is good in low-mid level invasions to throw behind your opponent while you have bloodflame blade on. They will have to walk through it if they are running or try to fight you, either way they will take more bleed buildup from something.
At high levels where people can just ignore it and trade, it's pretty bad. Most weapons can outtrade it if there will even be a trade with the slow speed it has.

Buffed in 1.07 patch, it's good against large enemies, since they step on all the blood pools. Still behaves weirdly against close targets, since the blood will fly past them.

A great spell for pve. Throw it & splash a mob of trash. Its less incredible against bosses unless they are large. Most of the damage comes from the initial & the bleed should come from lingering in the flames. Obviously this is meant to be used with dragon communion seal on a high arcane build, otherwise it's useless. Im sure someone has made it work in duels or something. If so that is impressive because the wind up & recovery for this spell is abysmal. The aoe doesnt last very long & it's easy to avoid the entire spell by strafing or rolling around at close range (even if they are unlocked & freeaiming)
This needs a casting speed buff & an extension for how long the flames linger. Damage & buildup is fine.

This spell is really nice for area denial, If you can learn how to free-aim at their feet really good, you don't really need to pair it up with other sources of bleed. Due to the trajectory of the blood splatters, it's hard for opponents to predict where they're gonna land, so if you can learn to free-aim where they're going to step, and at their feet, you can play mind games with them. That doesn't mean that hitting them with the blood splatters is bad btw, the damage from getting directly hit makes for some pretty nice harassment. Keep in mind, the average amount of bloodboon casts for someone to bleed out is about 2 if they're rolling around. If they're standing in it for about 3 or 5 seconds, that's a guaranteed bleedout, though some armor values might determine how long it takes. Try to take advantage of really long animations too from opponents. Keep in mind that I'm at 40 FAITH and ARCANE. All in all, pretty dope incantation; I'd love to see more people using it.

Awsome Utility-Offensive Spell.... This alone is about decent on its own , but Bloodboon shines best when paired with Swarm of Flies , and to even Mess it up entirely making the Build pretty much broken either have Bloodflame Weapon with the 3 or just use Swarm of Flies , Bloodboon while using Morgott's Cursed Sword. ( You'll feel like your the 3rd Cursed Omen Son and the True Lord of Blood ). Good combo trapping spell when paired with swarm of flies... And with some nasty other Incantation Spell combos the Outcome will be Genuinely fun , in PvE and in PvP.
- Anonymous
I’m the only one who hopes DLC will add the possibility to cast it in a straight line (probably with another version of the spell), like Mogh does? The combo/surprise potential would be nice even in pvp

Awsome underrated Combo Incantation i'd say , Bloodboon on itself alone is not Recommended for how Useless the Slot would be if your Build isn't Conjuction with the School type itself. ( Example , pair Bloodflame with any Weapon of the liking or even just use Morgott's Cursed Sword goes pretty well with it as Overall ). You have to have Swarm of Flies and White Mask to have a good Synergy with Bloodboon aswell... It's also great while having Mogh's Spear when you know how to use it... But as i see fit with my Build Morgott's Cursed Sword goes really well with Bloodboon , Swarm of Flies and another Bloodflamed Weapon for the Build. ( You could also Complete the build up with GV and FGmS along with spare Slots for Frenzy Flame Spells , making the Overall build really insane and tedious for other Players lol ).

Legitimate question, am I supposed to throw the blood right at the enemy for the direct damage, or am I supposed to throw it at their feet so they walk into it?
- Anonymous
The damage may not scale but I think the bleed buildup is increased when using dragon communion seal, because using arcane scaling weapons can increase buildup by leveling. At least from the main blood splashes
- Anonymous
Don't you kind of WANT it to hit their feet? It does full damage in a small AoE on contact with the ground and then does extra bloodflame damage/buildup.
- Anonymous
imagine if they added a bloodflame dragon breath spell in the dlc

Fun to use, but free aim it...
Best thing to use against the invisible scarabs, while it doesn't kill it makes them visible

Good news, this spell bleed buildup can stack for each instance of the pool making larger ennemies bleed fast as well as constantly stunning smaller foes. Bad news is you get this spell near the end of the game, unless you manage to do Varre questline early on and beat an endgame boss for it.
- Anonymous
I actually really like this in PvE; it’s a fun way to take out groups of mobs, as enemies will just stand there while it quickly kills them. It might not be the most powerful or cost effective spell, but cool enough that I will keep using it.
- Anonymous
I like this, It's just hard to handle. with a tanky summon and you get the aiming you can build up bleed at a very fast speed.
- Anonymous
I think it needs a minor buff but more than that, I'm disappointed that you can't do the version that Mohg can do right above himself that rains bloodflame down at his position/in front of him. Would have been a decent 'get away from me' tool.
- Anonymous
Fairly good incantation for PvP.
Getting used to aiming it can be tricky but once you have that down you can even hit people straight on for a fair amount of damage.
It's not damage that it excells in however, rather creating a hazards others have to work around.
With bloodflies chasing someone you can pretty much box people in. Said strategy really excells with Mohg's Spear either for chasing or weapon arting them into oblivion.
Not the most meta strategy but it's really fun, besides what's more bm than tossing blood in people's faces?
Only thing I wish this had is longer duration on the lingering flames.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I still find it terrible. I wish this could act as the blood-spreading trap the sanguine nobles use to slow you down, it would be much more effective.
- Anonymous
Sad that the projectile just disappears in mid-air if you try to lob it over greater distances.
- Anonymous
I think people are playing this incant completely wrong and thus all the hate is coming from that. This isn't lightning spear, of WoG or some sorcery it's a hazard incant. You don't target people with it you cast it off target and get it around you or your opponents area and have them proc bleed then pressure with a good occult or bleed weapon and get the kill. It's great for pvp in tight areas and for creating space. I do agree the proc should be faster considering the current state of bleed status, but it's effective.
- Anonymous
So besides the name being a reference, was Mohg communing with Oedon?
- Anonymous
I wish we could hold cast (not to charge, but as an alternate input method) for a frontal throw like Mohg does.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Why didn't the buff make this good you are wondering? It is because dragon communion seal status build up got nuke nerfed Fromsoft style and now is equal to other seals, making these blood incantations useless.
- Anonymous
This spell is good for showing people you like to start casting a spell so they can slap the **** out of you and jump over the lingering ground effect.

BLOODBOON???? LIKE THE VIDEOGAME OMG IT'S A BLOODBORNE REFRENCE
- Anonymous
Either buff the dmg or AOE. As it is rn, it still takes too long to build up the blood loss, and its still too easy for enemies to get out of it, considering the cast time.

Re: "Needs a buff badly".
Seems like I called it. Now the only issue is range on slanted surfaces; like people before me said, a good way to fix this would be to make it throw in a vertical line in outer ranges; that way it would still be powerful at longer ranges without being too OP or in it's current state; useless. Otherwise, this thing is great. Having a lot of fun using it. Seemingly popping Bloodloss very easily with +10 Dragon Seal and 99 Arcane.
- Anonymous
The damage and bleed build up is completely fine, just buff the duration it stays on the ground and it would be a great cc spell.
- Anonymous
Hot take but I feel like if it lasted longer then it would be an extremely good cc spell. Idk im not a game dev, could be too op if they did this, especially in pvp. Let me know your thoughts.
- Anonymous
It should receive a buff, but not damage or buildup, but rather duration. With buffs to damage and cast speed, it will just become a competitor to fireball-like spells, which means either they will put this one to shadow, or if it's buffed (I doubt) it will put the other ones to shadow.
Instead - keep the damage, buildup, even cast time, but increase the length of flame lingering on the ground. It should be a tool to control zones, while supporting the buildup of your main weapon.
- Anonymous
People who think this is bad, especially after 1.04, need to give this is a whirl against larger enemies that stay in the lingering fire hitboxes. This thing ramps damage and bleed very fast. I think this, and bloodflame talons, are in a good place. Heck, I think SoF is too.....let's be real, it was TOO strong.
- Anonymous
Even it it cast as fast as bloodflame talons the skill would still suck
- Anonymous
even after the patch, it's still lacking compared to bloodflame talons
- Anonymous
still bad. You need to be close distance to let the pool of blood do its job, and at that point you're better off using the Talons
- Anonymous
Even with the damage and speed buff, it's still pretty lackluster. Better, but severely lacking for an endgame boss spell.
- Anonymous
Just got buffed in 1.04. Haven't tried it yet though
- Bloodboon - Increased damage. Increased cast speed and decreased effect start-up time, decreased recovery time.
- Anonymous
Needs a buff badly. Make it scale to absurd degrees like Bloodflies. 99 Arcane, +10 Dragon Seal; takes ages to proc blood on even simple mobs. At those stats I should be proccing it immediately.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I honestly think this spell could be a lot better by just simply increasing the length of time that the fire remains.
- Anonymous
This spell is great for dealing with alot of flowers/slugs/poison butt plugs all at once.
- Anonymous
Could honestly use a rework and buff, its really cool but for what it is it should really be stronger.
- Anonymous
This has Arcane requirements, so should scale bleed with Arc?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
This should be a legendary incantation if you count it's lore importance. I mean, it's literally *the* spell of a Blood Lord, who in turn got it from an outer god. It's strange there's only like 3 incantations and 4 spells that are said to be legendary, although I guess it's par for the course when your Outer God spell is as mediocre as Bloodboon is.
- Anonymous
Does anyone know how the scaling works? If the fire damage scales with faith and bleed with arcane, or if only the spell buff that counts for both.
- Anonymous
If you're fighting a ton of enemies all grouped together, this is does pretty decent damage and throwing an interdimensional pocketful of flaming blood at people is honestly pretty funny. That said, the cast delay means you need to keep your distance, the cast pattern is an arc that starts at your left side and ends slightly to the right of your front so it's kinda hard to position the puddles, and it's very possible that enemies won't stay in the puddles long enough to receive a blood proc or the puddles will expire before a proc can occur if the enemy wasn't in it for the full duration. The low FP cost means it's pretty spammable, so you can keep an area covered fairly easily, but it almost sorta needs to be spammed to yield good damage. The fact that you get Swarm of Flies leading up to Mohg probably adds to the underwhelming nature of this, tbh

It's such a baller looking spell but it takes ages to come out it's often not worth it, both in pve and pvp.

The Formless Mother is a sadomasochist.
Mohg got himself a fun one!

Anyone having trouble with this spell for starters you need to use a casting seal that scales with Arcane not just faith, so basically just Dragon Seal. I think there are two I know one is in Fringefolk Cavern.
Dexterity also seems to make a big difference, I tested casting this on two different characters.
One was a Faith strength and the other was a dexterity arcane.
The dexterity build cast this spell about .5 seconds faster id guess. I’m not checking frames or timing anything.
The damage is alright, with a +18 dragon seal and minimum Faith and 50 arcane hits around 240.
For PVP I’m finding it best used as a punishment and zoning tool.
If they chug an flask in front of you can usually hit them with a good spray.
If you interpret them ahead of time it will usually be enough to finish them.
You can also look downwards and cast it in a giant puddle which does around 600 for me plus bleed if that blows up.
Using it for zoning basically just gives you some free bleed before you go for that first trade.
Also can mess with peoples timing if they try to around them real quick you might be able to score a few hits with a weapon.
I’m not using a full blown caster, so as a kill spell definitely it isn’t going to be blowing people up in 1-2 shots but it does have some good mechanical use for any arcane hybrid casters.
For PVE I’m finding it pretty useless against most bosses just move around too much but it’s handy for clearing weaker mobs.
- Anonymous
Very good for catching invisible scarabs if you don't have something similar available.
- Anonymous
Really wish there were a way to throw this straight instead of sideways, by holding the button or something, like Mohg does in the fight, or just collect it all in one ball of blood to have the option to choose AoE or single target.
- Anonymous
There is a hidden reference in the spell name!! If you take each letter and rearrange them in backwards order, it spells out "NOOBDOOLB"
- Anonymous
Desperately wants a buff. Cast time is long which would imply it does some hefty damage, but it doesn't. The flames it leaves behind disappear way too quickly, and the initial hit is just too paltry. Would be very fun if you could chain cast it, or if the lingering flames got a big buff. As it is I can't justify slotting it, sadly.
- Anonymous
Long cast time is biggest drawback. It’s a great zoning tool though and very handy for proccing lord of blood’s exultation in large groups if you don’t have time to seppuku. Gets buffed by Flame Grant Me Strength and I really like using in in a build with flock canvas, fire scorpion, and Godfrey’s using it with the giantsflame incants. Easy 3k+ fireballs
- Anonymous
The arc is incredibly wide, this is probably the most fp efficient thing for large mobs, besides night maidens mist. Unless they have a dog. Or bow. Or blow a spit ball at you, the thing is the casting time is long. Real long. At least you can move while casting... slowly.
In pvp it is nice when people see you cast a spell, glinstone spam ptsd kicks, and they start circle running towards you. This catches that a lot.
All in all C+ spell that would be A+ if you could chain cast.
My opinion with 42 arc and s scaling seal: Bad direct damage, does not stack bleed enough to proc it in most cases, stays on the ground so shortly that you cant even use it to defend a chokepoint. Using this while locked on is mostly pointless since it damages once and the the flames often end up behind the target you aimed at. In freeaim could be used for area denial IF it wasnt so goddamned short-lived. Yes, if you get it just right, hit all procs and get a bleed off it can be good, but in like 90% of the time you would be better off doing literally anything else from your arsenal.
- Anonymous
I don't know, it comes out fast for me but I have Azur's staff equipped. The damage on initial impact also doesn't hit terribly and the flames stagger weaker enemies which is where it really shines at keeping hordes at bay.
- Anonymous

This would be one of my favorite spells of the cast time was just a little shorter.

Tested on dragon at dragonbarrow. The animation is so slow, doesn't seem to proc bleed very fast. Swarm of flies is better, this spell is good for zoning though

I honestly thought “formless mother” was miquella. Like Radagon and Marika, miquella shared a conscious or being with Malenia or something else. Like the body in the egg was a failed and blasphemous attempt at conjuring him as he was formless. I thought that’s why Gideon told you to kill him as a mercy. But I guess I was wrong. I wish there was more on mohg and miquella in general but I’m sure there’s npc dialogue or items I haven’t found yet that give more insight
- Anonymous
Anyone know if arcance increases the bleed build-up of this or other bleed incantations?
- Anonymous
Someone should investigate what this scales off of. Bloodflame blade scales soley on faith instead of the seal's adjust and I'm worried they did the same with the other blood incantations.
- Anonymous
This spell is actually pretty decent. Sure, it's damage isn't spectacular, but it helps build bleed and can be casted whilst walking. being able to cast whilst moving is actually really handy, lets you attack whilst disengaging. I also find some mobs get stuck in it's DOT effect, it stun locks them somewhat.
I'm a little disappointed in this spell so far. Cast time is really long and the power is a little underwhelming. AOE is nice though.
- Anonymous
I feel like this spell's duration is way to short, by the time it hits the ground it only sits there for less than a second before disappearing...
- Anonymous
For blood builds, this is your AoE incantation. Use this to clear groups of mobs before they quickly overwhelm you.
- Anonymous
Very good spell, does pretty good damage and great area denial. A must have for any bleed focus builds
- Anonymous
This spell can be manually aimed higher to get more distance, like all the other spells that are affected by gravity. The max range while locked on is fairly short, while manually aiming can let this spell reach out much further.
- Anonymous
This spell kinda sucks. It doesn’t work unless it hits the ground, but it has both too short a lifetime and too little gravity for that to happen reliably.
You pretty much have to aim it yourself without locking on, but the jacked up trajectory makes it extremely hard to aim manually as well.
The cast time is also unjustifiably long.
So after playing around with a hex editor, and this spell, I can safely say that if this spell could be thrown in a straight line, it's general viability would sky rocket.
