Jar Bairn is an NPC in Elden Ring. Jar Bairn is a small living jar NPC that can be found sitting on top of some stairs at the west end of Jarburg. Their quest is tied to Iron Fist Alexander and Diallos.

Hello coz, what are you doing here?

Jar Bairn Location in Elden Ring

Jar Bairn can be found at Jarburg.

  • This NPC moves.
  • This NPC can be fought.
  • Doesn't drop anything upon defeat.

Jar Bairn Questline: How to complete Jar Bairn's Quest

  • Jar-Bairn can be found in Jarburg and will ask you to become Potentate, but deems your hands too rough.
  • Destroying any of the jars in Jarburg will anger Jar-Bairn and render this questline inaccessible.
  • Note: Jar-Bairn will start sleeping, mumbling about the "Wide World" until you meet/save Alexander at least once.
  • Reload the area and talk to Jar-Bairn multiple times, until their dialogue is exhausted. The stopping point here is where Jar-Bairn talks about poachers. You need to reload by using the site of grace multiple times until you get the dialogue about poachers.
  • (Optional)
    • Progressing Diallos's questline in Volcano Manor until he leaves will cause him to move to Jarburg.
      • Killing Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy before completing the questline and then talking to Diallos will also cause him to move.
    • Reload the area multiple times and talk to Diallos (who appear in one of the houses in the area) and Jar Bairn until Diallos tells you not to pity him and Jar Bairn laments they'd like to have a stronger Potentate.
    • After exhausting Alexander's dialogue in Radahn's Arena after Radahn's defeat, return here to find several of the jars destroyed. The mortally wounded Diallos will be lying in the center of Jarburg, and ask if he successfully defended the jars from the poachers. Jar-Bairn is a little bit south from Diallos's location, behind his legs.
      • If you have defeated Radahn and have already talked to Alexander in his location, but Jarburg has not been attacked, you should go to the Starcourge Radahn Site of Grace, and then back to Jarburg.
    • Reload the area, and speak to Jar-Bairn as he's attempting to inherit some of Diallos's power from his remains.
  • Reload the area once again, and speak to Jar Bairn, who will now be seated where he initially was. He will speak of going on a journey to become a Warrior Jar. Give them Alexander's Innards, which you receive for completing Alexander's questline, and reload the area again.
  • Receive the Companion Jar Talisman from where Jar-Bairn was previously seated. You can also find Diallos's Mask and Hoslow's Petal Whip in the middle of town.
  • Note: Not to confuse with Juno Hoslow, who is Diallos's brother.

Dialogue in Elden Ring: Jar Bairn

Introduction

  • Hallo coz, what are you doing here? I didn't think anyone knew about this place, 'cept us jars. Oh! Are you going to be the new Potentate?

Answering "I'll be your Potentate."

  • Gosh, truly? That's wonderful news! It's not easy being Potentate, though. I know, show me your hands. It's just a little test, coz, to see if you've got the right stuff.
Hmm. Your skin isn't so smooth, is it... You need slick, slidey hands to be Potentate, you know. I'm sorry coz, but I don't think you've got what it takes... What a shame...

Answering "No, I'm not your Potentate."

  • Oh, well, I'm sorry.

Talking again after responding "No, I'm not your Potentate."

  • Coz. You'll be our Potentate after all, then?

When found sleeping (before freeing Alexander the first time and after Jar-Bairn's dialogue about flowers)

  • ...
  • Coz...
  • Tell me a story... About the big, wide world...
  • ...

Visit

  • Don't look so glum, coz. We can still chat, Potentate or not. Come back and visit me, when you can.
  • Oh, hallo again coz. I'm happy you came back. I have good tidings for you, coz. Have you noticed the rare flowers growing in this village? I asked the villagers if you could pick some of them. And they said you'd be very welcome!
  • Go on, coz, you really should pick some of our flowers. Who knows, they might be of some use.
  • Ah, hallo again. Say, coz. Have you met Uncle Alexander? He used to live here with us, but then he left, to be a champion. I asked to go with him, but he said "The path of champions must be trod alone". So heroic, right? I miss him though. If you see him, you should ask him to teach you how to fight, coz. He's big and tough and strong!
  • Uncle Alexander said he won't be back again. "My home is of the past. And the past, as they say, is a different country." I suppose that's part of being a warrior, isn't it. So...please don't tell anyone, coz, but... I'm actually a warrior jar as well! One day, I'll be just like Uncle Alexander. And I'll have to leave the village to become a champion.
  • Ah, hallo again. Do you know what a poacher is, coz? They hunt us, smash us, and then take us away. This village is kept secret, so I think we're safe here. But you should be careful if you ever meet one of them, coz. I hope uncle Alexander beats them all up, first...

When found sleeping, he will sometimes say these lines.

  • ”…
    Uncle Alexander, look!
    It’s me! I’m a warrior jar too!”
  • “…
    Stop, no…
    Please, no, don’t break us…”

When Diallos arrives at Jarburg

  • Oh, hello again, cos! Have you heard, a new Potentate's coming to the village! I think he said his name was Diallos. He seems a little down in the dumps, but his hands! As smooth as silk!
  • I don't know. I'm a little disappointed actually. Even though good sir Diallos has a wonderful suit of armour... He says he isn't a warrior. And since he's a coward he won't be fighting anymore. His smooth and silky hands feel nice when he pats us. But I wish we had a potentate big and strong like you.

After Diallos arrives at Jarburg (while sleeping)

  • ... They're wonderful, Diallos. So smooth, and silky... ...

After Jarburg is attacked

  • O-oh! Coz! I'm glad you came. But we're fine now. Diallos fought the poacher. Though quite a lot of us got broken... I won't cry though... I'm a warrior jar. A warrior. "The tale of House Hoslow is told in blood."  That's the kind of warrior I want to be one day, coz. Even if I'm scared, I'll still fight to protect everyone.

After completing Iron Fist Alexander's questline

  • Thanks for coming back, coz. I've been thinking. It's time for me to set out on a journey. As a warrior jar, upon the path of champions.
  • (If player chooses to 'Give Alexander's Insides') Wow, coz, are these... Insides? From Uncle Alexander? ... Thank you, coz. I'm a warrior jar, so I need to be strong. I can really have them, right? I understand. I'll get strong. Strong enough I deserve to have Uncle's insides.
  • I don't think I'll see you again, when I set out. Warriors are supposed to work alone. Goodbye, coz. And thanks for everything. I'll never forget you, coz.

When attacked

  • Oh? What's the matter, coz? Don't be such a nasty brute.

Upon Death

  • ...So, this is who you are, coz... You've cracked my heart. Please, don't crack the others...
  • So, you were a poacher, too. But the tale of house Hoslow is told in blood. I'll find you, one day, coz...

Elden Ring Jar Bairn Notes & Trivia

  • You do not need to give Jar Bairn Alexander's Innards to activate the attack on Jarburg if attempting to complete Diallos's questline.
  • Jar Bairn will sometimes be found sleeping at times, dreaming about various things, like the poachers, Alexander, and Diallos.

Who exactly are these poachers? I hope we will be able to meet them in the Shadow of the Erdtree so I could take my revenge for killing the peaceful jar people and killing my boy Diallos. Also I hope there's an extra sidequest for this kid all trained and grown up .

Here before this guy becomes the next Great Jar and gets his own Knights and starts hanging out in front of a colosseum

The whole " Reach Consecrated Snowfield and then come back" is straight up misinformation, I didn't reach that zone yet but I did follow Diallos quest until the point he left the volcano manor reloaded Jarburg several times and everything happened until the point where he dies and you get his mask and whip.

You do NOT need to get to the Mountaintops of Giants to trigger the poacher attack on Jarburg. It simply needs to be night time and a map refresh (site of grace, fast travel), in addition to the previous conditions (Diallos in Jarburg, both NPCs dialogue exhausted). None of this multiple rest nonsense either.

I killed both him and the big jar near him but was able to absolve and then he came back. On another save I killed every jar in the village and wasn't able to absolve.

Soo as of right now, you can skip most of his questline if you did Alexanders questline first, just have his inards. Talk to him and reset about 3-4 times and you'll get the option to give him the Inards in one of the conversations completely skipping the Poachers and getting the jar talisman.

                    • Anonymous

Resetting at the grace, quitting then reloading and fast travelling away from then back to Jarburg maybe a dozen times in total immediately after exhausting Jar-bairn and Diallos's dialogue didn't work for me. I only progressed Jar-Bairn's quest to the aftermath of the poacher attack by passing real world time before fast travelling back to Jarburg.
Also, does anyone else feel kind of bad killing the little living jars when they are enemies and hostile? If I can avoid killing them I will, I don't like killing jellyfish either.

I never found Alexander and I just assumed every pot in jarburg was an enemy and slaughtered them all. oopsie

                        • Anonymous

The trigger for the poacher dialogue is talking to Diallos in Roundtable Hold after talking to him next to Lanyas corpse.

                          • Did you possibly fall and land on him when you were first entering the village? I almost did that once by dropping off the house above where he is sitting. Otherwise, it’s probably a bug?

I finsihed alexander quest before even visiting Jarburg once, upon arrival i didn't saw Bairn but only heard a vocie line when nearing a house, he said "So, this is who you are, coz... You've cracked my heart."
And since i couldn't find him i went on the wiki and saw this is his DEATH line ??? what happenned ?? Does killing alexander before meeting bairn means he kills himself or something??

                              • Anonymous

I got startled when I saw Alexander’s big ass stuck in a cave and killed him, not knowing he was an NPC. You cannot atone for it, meaning that Jar Bairn’s quest won’t go beyond him saying he’ll begin his journey as a warrior jar. You have no Alexander’s innards to send him off, so he never leaves the village.

If you're stuck getting to the point where Jarburg has been attached, try quitting the game and reloading.

Small warrior jar! How do these cute little jars grow up into big ones like Alexander? Hmmmm...Hmmmm.... (Siegmeyer noise)

Alexander as a child, in the past. This isn’t the only time this sort of paradoxical scenario happens in Elden Ring.

Like me, if you've finished the game and are running around collecting everything, there'll be an option to give "Alexanders Innards" after he says we should ask for lessons. This'll skip the whole poacher part and none of the pots will be broken. He'll leave after reloading at a site of grace and in his place where he sits will be the "Companion Jar" taliman, but will lose out on getting "Diallos's Mask" and "Hoslow's Tail Whip".

I have lit the flame at forge of giants and the quest will not progress. Any way to trigger the town attack? I have alexandar's innards at this point, not sure why diallos won't just DIE.

Is it possible to do this quest and alexanders even after beating elden beast? Somehow never found alexander but found this guy and noe dialogue wont go past the picking flowers section and telling him a story about the big wide world

Interestingly, I never interacted with Diallos and Jar-Bairn's quest will finish without the poacher episode. Diallos might be bad luck for the jars :/

                                              • Anonymous

I was stuck at the point where Diallos was mending the little jar, telling me not to pity him, and Jar-Bairn was questioning how good Diallos would be as potentate. I had already been to Mountaintops of the Giants before this. I reloaded the are several times but it wouldn't progress. Then I found a Ritual Pot on the roof of one of the houses I had missed earlier. Once I picked it up and reset the area I found Diallos wounded on the ground. Not sure if that pot was really what was holding me up, but it certainly seemed to un-stick the quest for me.

                                                • Anonymous

The part about the Mountain Top of the Giants is incorrect, unless NG+ saves that info somewhere. I entered the village again after the 2nd manor assassination and he was helping a jar. Then I passed time until noon, and the pots were broke and he was dying. The Mountain Top of the Giants part is also not stated in the guide for Diallos which seems to be correct.

                                                  • Anonymous

Seriously? If you destroy even a single one of the monster jars it won't speak to you for the rest of the game, also screwing Diallos' quest? Who the hell doesn't mess up without knowing beforehand?

                                                    • Anonymous

Midgame Npc, but you need to get to end game to really progress their quest beyond the opening dialogue. Oh yeah and no absolution for pissing off the Npc. Why this sloppiness from.

                                                      • Anonymous

After Jarburg gets attacked and you talk to everyone, reloading the area causes Jar-bairne to move to Diallos' corpse and begins eating him, no new dialogue, just the horror of the kid eating him

                                                        • Anonymous

if you already defeat alexander but never start the quest you can just reload the area each end dialogue to progress the quest and when bairn want stronger Potentate and you cannot progress even you warp to mountaintops giants, try warp to grandlift then go to mountaintops giants using grandlift and rest at grace near zamor ruins without warp.

                                                          • Anonymous

Just FYI: You *cannot* get absolution for killing the jars and restart the questline. I'm gonna have to wait until my next playthrough to meet Jar-Bairn.

They need to give us a DLC where we only kill these poachers. I swear to god, I will repec just to wield dual giant hammers with claw talishman and jump attack smash their skulls in. Let us avenge them FS!

My question is, did he move, where did he go, and if not how the hell/where the hell do I find him now?

                                                                  • Anonymous

                                                                    • Anonymous

You can get a good ending for Jar-Bairn and Jarburg - it involves starting Diallos's quest but not progressing it beyond that. You won't get Diallos's mask, but the good part is the village doesn't get raided and everyone lives happily ever after while you hit that Eldenbong.

                                                                      1. Talk to Diallos once at RTH and never again at any of the other locations.
                                                                      2. Complete Volcano Manor and assassinate Juno Hoslow.
                                                                      3. Go to Jarburg and exhaust Jar-Bairn's dialogue until he talks about poachers.
At this point, the village will not get raided as Diallos has not found the village to trigger it.
                                                                      4. Complete Alexander's quest in Farum Azula.
                                                                      5. Give Alexander's innards to Jar-Bairn.

(I walked from the Forbidden Lands Grace to the lift and took it. That fixed it for me!)

                                                                          • Anonymous

                                                                            • Anonymous

At the time I got this dialogue I had already gotten the one about them wanting a potentate with stronger hands and diallos speech to not pity him, idk if that has any relevance.

                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Got the Diallos' set (kickass mask) and haven't completed Alexander's quest. Just in case someone's in the same point of the story and wants to get the Diallos' set quickly.
BTW: Poor Diallos; I'd say if he saved at least one jar, it was worth the fight!

                                                                                                        • there is a secret iteraction with him during the night, (it happens randomply after exausting all his dialogs, resetting the area resting at the grace, sometimes happend after 2-3 try, other times after 5-6) where you can find him sleeping and dreaming when you interact with him, pre-diallos appearence he is dreaming about alexander, after diallos death he is dreaming about diallos.

                                                                                                          • there is a random secret iteration with him during night, (i have only reproduced resetting the area resting at the grace, sometime it triggers after 2-3 reset other times after 5-6) where he go to sleep and start to dream and you interact with him, if you are pre diallos appear he will dreams about alexander, while after diallos start to dream about him.

                                                                                                            • I got to the Mountains of Giants before completing the second Manor Letter. I was able to defeat Alexander and give the innards to Jar Brain and get the talisman. Jarberg was never attacked so I guess Diallos was the reason the poachers found their secret spot.

Jar Bairn says "Stop, no, please, no, don't break us." Bruh, I'm sad, I don't know why he's scared of me :( maybe it's because I killed Alexander to get the warrior jar shard? I don't know. I'm sorry, Jar Bairn :(

He is crying and talking quietly to himself, he repeats the "The tale of Hoslow is told in blood" with long pauses "..." and crying. Wish I had recorded it, but he continues the same dialogue after giving the Alexander innards.

I killed jars at Jarburg before talking to Jar Bairn. He disappeared. I also cannot find Alexander anywhere (not gael tunnel, liurnia, or mt gelmer). I tried absolution at church of vows but it says I do not need absolution (yes I do have Celestial Dews).

Can anyone assist? I'd like to do Jar Bairn, Alexander, and Diallos questlines but absolution isn't available. Thoughts?

Just exhaust Jar Bairn dialogue with a few rests in Jarburg, kill Alexander for his innards in Farum Azula, then return to Jar Bairn with the innards and tell him Alexander is dead. Then rest at grace, Jar Bairn disappears from the wall he sat on, and leaves behind the Companion Jar. Very happy, thought I'd need to do another play through

But him and Diallos have such a tragic quest. I felt sad yet happy when he was taking Diallos.

Resetting doesn't help and I'm at the endgame. Anyone know what to do?
