Utility:
- One-handed and two-handed R1s are thrust attacks.
- One-handed and two-handed R2s are slash attacks.
- Jumping R1s are thrusts.
- Jumping R2s are small AOE slams.
Strategy:
- R1s are spammable and quick. They have good range as well.
- The jumping R1 attack is very fast, has good range, and a lingering hitbox. It is very useful against bosses!
- Impaling Thrust is a great skill, but an alternative strategy would be to use the War Cry ability (especially on a strength build) because it gives a small attack power buff, and it turns the charged R2 attack into a small charging thrust attack

  Fashionable, noble, low maintenance, fairly versatile, decent stance damage, decent speed, great range on the dashing attacks, simple enough to learn, and access to awesome Ashes of War like Spectral Lance and Giant Hunt. A fantastic weapon that will rarely disappoint you, but at the same time, will never do the fighting for you.

  Even though I had to invest a couple of points to use it, I've been using this for my ooga booga build as a backup to the Large Club. The tassel and strong amount of patina to the staff and blade give this one some measure of ungabungity; thus making it the least out0of-place for a caveman character out of all the spears.

  Used it to solo Maliketh and Godfrey. Found it excellent to use. Ice spear for Maliketh and Impaling thrust for Godfrey. In my NG with it the spectral lance has been great. Very versatile. Also looks cool.

  Unfortunate that being one of the coolest looking weapons in the game, its utility starts and ends with mere shield pokes... R2’s are too slow and don’t have the range to be useful. Wish this thing had the Guardian’s Swordspear moveset or something.
  
  Heartbreakingly lame moveset for such an iconic weapon.

  Not the most powerful by far but oh so fun to use for PvE, I keep one on hand because personally I'm just not a bow/crossbow kinda guy, it has decent range and can break poise after a couple shots but the best part I find is not having to swap melee/ranged in a fight

  i like this two handed with quickstep, it offers a kind of unique spear fighting style. the two handed rolling and backstep attacks are slashes, and it looks cool to use them in conjunction with the slash heavy coupled with all the quick and evasive movement options quickstep provides

  Got two back-to-back while farming the battle between Redmane soldiers and t-rex dogs by the Impassable Greatbridge bonfire. No idea if I was just lucky or if the knight there has a higher drop rate, but seems like a good place to farm.

  In PvP, despite 1h moveset being superior (rolling R1 and backstep R1 being pokes), I consistently do better when using this weapon 2-handed, and I don't really know why. The flow of combat with this weapon feels odd - it's too short to be good at thrusts and R2 is too slow to be good at sweeps.

  Always love it when the moveset gets nerfed for the player. The knights that wield these have an absolute insane moveset with this thing. A fast triple gap closing thrust. A thrust that instantly transitions into a swing. A fast slash with a dodge. What do we get? Slow boring thrusts and an incredibly slow slash. Seriously, if you fight them with your own partizan you just get jealous of how much better they use the weapon.

  This thing keen + lightning strike/spectral spear with the brass shield with carian retaliation on a dex build. Try it. You will not regret. I haven't had as much fun in ER like, ever. You have access to good single target attacks, sweeping heavies that are rather quick, shield pokes to fight annoying things, decent ranged option, parries and 100% physical block. With that set up you can use every single move in the game, are never out of option and can come up with multiple decent strategies to every encounter. Add some throwing jars and 10 faith defense incantations (just 1 faith investment on the Vagabond) and here you go, one of the most versatile builds in the game

  118 Discovery at Gatefront got it after around 20 attempts. Farming at night makes it slightly quicker. Easier to avoid the other little knight getting involved so you can insta-teleport back to grace.

  This is THE physical spear. Fantastic moveset, only outdamaged by the cross Naginata for pure physical damage, and a phenominally reliable moveset. Naginata is the raw dps weapon when you don't need sweeping attacks, and an Occult Spiked Spear will be the best bleed version of this on an arcane build since it shares the moveset and has a minimal drop in damage, but there really isn't a better physical spear in the game just for basic power and reliability.

  Pros : - Relatively good damage and stats required to wield it are not that high.
  - Stuns enemies fairly quickly. I'm able to stun Limgrave giants with 2 charged R2 (two handed) which is on pair with greatsword but this one is faster to use.
  - Decent et reliable starting ash of war. You can play the entire game with that trusty one.
  - Like all spears, the ability to poke and hide behind your shield is still a good asset.
  
  Cons : - Low drop rate and very few enemies to farm from make it somewhat difficult to get.

  I'm trying to decide if I want to switch over to this from my Great Epee, or if the loss of stunning power and damage makes it not worth it. Spectral Lance makes short work of dragons and other flying creatures, but I'm not sure the Partizan can stun them quite as well. Any suggestions?

  "Very low drop rate, but it is a confirmed drop." Actually, it's not very low, it is exactly the same chance as the others (4%). I'm farming all weapons in the game and this one I got like on 3 kill of godrick knight. I must say that any weapon with a 0.5% chance took me 30-60 mins of farming. So 4% is actually huge (especially with discovery buffs).

  Admittedly I kinda liked the version DS2 had most (S on dex with no upgrades, crazy high damage). Still a pretty good weapon even though spinning slash doesn't stunlock on spears anymore (which is what DS3 had on it and made it great in PvP).

  Middle of the road for spears in terms of damage and length. The R2 is meh... it's cool that it has an AoE attack. But Ashes of War generally give better damage AoE's that also reset/boost poise.
  
  The only reason I really give for using this is that it looks cool, and it's the same model for the Spectral Lance Ash of War, so it doesn't look janky when you throw your spear.

  Are spears finally good in this game? i remember in dark souls 3 they were quite bad. there was just no reason to use them because they were outclassed by a lot of other weapons and possessed no special abilities that would make them worthwhile. it's sad becuase i love spears.

  Can be farmed from Altus Highway Junction site of grace, just mount up and ride to the southwest and there's a Leyndell Knight on horseback carrying one. If it doesn't drop, just port back to grace and try again. It took about 20 minutes of farming with silver scarab talisman but I was able to get one to drop from him.

  Blood infused, this has the same bleed as a Spiked Spear but higher base damage and slightly better str scaling (worse dex though). So blood infused this is mostly better, as well as maintaining higher damage vs opponents that aren't vulnerable to bleed with physical infusions, but in any other scenario (occult infusion, cold infusion, etc) Spiked Spear's innate bleed will provide an advantage over the Partisan. This also does ever so slightly more stamina damage vs guarding opponents, but that's not super important for a spear.

  The Spiked Spear seems like it is nearly strictly better than this weapon - same moveset, length, reduced weight and bleed addition, with only a tiny difference of AR at max. Any ideas of why to use this over Spiked Spear? FROM, why did you have to do my Partisan dirty like this....

  For PvE, it's servicable and does the job just fine. Sweeps, just like in ds3, make it more fun to use and break monotony from the infinite poke playstyle. Guard counters sometimes fly over short enemies' heads.
  
  For PvP though... it no longer delivers. It was a phenomenal weapon in ds3 due to two factors, combos and pvp dynamic. Combos are gone in ER, so you wont be able to get off a poke + spin or some crazy chain of rollcatches and double-hits anymore; spinning slash now hits harder but has a delay and frankly feels clunky to use with such a short weapon. Meanwhile the way pvp is done has changed, people rarely roll around you anymore the way they used to in ds1/2/3 (its a spell / ability meta now) so catching people with R2 sweeps simply doesn't happen almost at all.
  
  On top of that, backstep attacks are now short sweeps instead of pokes, and it also has ~100 less AR than a comparable banished halberd at higherst upgrades and scaling, and you can feel it.
  
  I've been a staunch partisan man for a decade, but in ER, it falls short of poky halberds (which also sweep on R2) and the only thing it's got going for it is being able to shield-poke, something you're probably better off doing with some sort of a greatspear, which have additional unique advantages such as multihit running R2, or heavy poise/posture damage.
  
  It looks sweet though.

  Having a blast dual weilding these. Both at +8. I also have the Brass Shield equipped when needed. Jump attacks with L2 are amazing!! Especially using the talisman that buffs jump attacks

  God i miss the old Partizan look, sucks this is the only old weapons the totally changed the appearance of, and why not more spears with this moveset with a slash

  best farming spot for mid/late game: at west capital rampart SoG there's one really close.

  you also get it from horse-riding knights in deeproot depths... i didnt have anything except silver scarab talisman and i got it from the knight around the waterfall... tl dr... it drops from knights on horses in deeproot depths

  I was lucky enough to get a Partisan during my first blind playthrough while farming the early Godrick Knight camp for armor for my Wretch. You know, the camp before Melina gives you Torrent, with that one single heavy knight patrolling up and down the road with Spear & Shield. It has decent reach, and like all spears, can poke while blocking, with decent damage and a very nice, simple and effective weapon art for poise-breaking and poking. I wouldn't make an entire build around this weapon, but if you get one early enough, it is a nice early/mid-game weapon.

  The Partisan also drops from the Haligtree Knight on the left, through the gate from Elphael Inner Wall grace point.

  I have it at +8 and it seems okay. The R2 feels slower than in DS3, sdo I'm guessing poise is needed to reliably use it, as most enemies will just stagger you mid animation.

  I got 2 of this. Lvl them up to +24 and infuse them with cold affinity. Now each of them has 104 frozen build up.
  
  Duel wield this weapon and my powerstance trigger frozen ailments onto enemy verrryyy quick.
  
  Oh i also use hoarfrost stomp on this weapon (right hand). Now imagine the frost build up lol.

  Dont kill yourself farming this.
  
  Guardian swordspear is easier to farm and scales great with just about anything.
  
  Vykes swordspear is a guaranteed drop early-ish game and has the identical moveset for faith builds (hybrid damage with flame).
