Bewitching Branch is a Consumable Item and optional Keepsake in Elden Ring. Most Consumables grant various effects such as restorative properties for recovering HP, removing certain negative status effects or applying temporary buffs and debuffs, while others can be thrown at enemies to deal damage.

Tree branch blessed with an incantation of unalloyed gold.
Craftable item.

Pierce a foe, using FP to turn them into a temporary ally.

The Empyrean Miquella is loved by many people. Indeed, he has learned very well how to compel such affection.

  • You can store up to 600 Bewitching Branches.
  • Sell Value: item value icon elden ring wiki guide 18px 100 Runes
  • You can select Bewitching Branch as Keepsake during Character Creation.
  • Can be used to charm the spectral Banished Knights Commander Niall summons. Sprint up to one of them (dual wielding Knight, preferably) while they're being summoned and use the item to charm them relatively risk-free. Charm the second Knight to make the first phase of the fight quite short.

Elden ring has a really nasty habit of making things that were infinite use spells in the previous games into consumables that you can basically never craft because of how rare the resources are

      • Anonymous

Be careful if you use this on omens. If you hit them with 1 dmg stab they can start swinging and you can't target them

+ Work on Ballista opperater (Work against invader, Make sure bewitch it while no other enemies nearby or else they would leave the ballista and engage in melee combat).

"all invaders do is hide behind enemies" my brother in marika you have the power to weaponize the enemies

            • Probably my favorite consumable. Lot's of good info in comments. I can add that enemies can be charmed over and over again. Even if the effect already wore off. There doesn't seem to be diminishing returns if used repeatedly on the same enemy.

However! If you want to refresh the charmed effect on an already charmed target, THEY HAVE TO BE STABBED BY THE BRANCH!! The charm status effect doesn't refresh if the enemy is only hit by the cloud. The cloud only charms hostile enemies. The refresh will last a full 3 minutes.

Lastly, it's a lot easier to list what ISN'T affected by this because it does effect most enemies. I forget offhand what it doesn't work on but basically if it's a huge ass enemy, it ain't gonna work. It does affect Fire Prelates but not the huge ass prawns as someone else already stated.

Another interesting thing about this item is that if the charmed enemy isn't aggroed, they will return to the same spot or patrol path. Charmed enemies can also attack invaders.

Best use I have seen is the summoned knights for Commander Niall.

I usually just Swarm of Flies him after that whilst the other 2 beat on him.

                • Anonymous

Enemies remain charmed for 3 minutes. Some enemies cannot be charmed. Charmed enemies have a pink cloud emanating from their heads. Law of Regression will dispel charm effect. Charmed enemies can be buffed and healed. Charmed enemies will not attack the player and cannot be locked onto. However their attacks can still hit you, likewise your attacks can still hit them. Attacking a charmed enemy will NOT aggro them. It is not necessary to hit an enemy with the stab animation. The enemy only needs to touch the pink cloud for a moment. The pink cloud is an AOE, enabling it to charm multiple enemies in a single use. The stab animation has no hyper armor and can be interrupted easily.

Some strategies to use the item effectively are-

                  1. Using the Ash of War: Endure to give yourself hyper armor so you can cast without being interrupted by most attacks. (Note: Heavier attacks such as the ones made by giant enemies/weapons can still stagger you).

                  2. Using the spell Darkness so you can momentarily de-aggro most enemies that enter the black fog, allowing you to use the item without being attacked. (Note: the de_aggroing effect of Darkness has a VERY short duration lasting roughly 10 seconds on an enemy looking away from you and 2 seconds on an enemy looking right at you, be quick).

                  3. Using Sleep Pots from afar to put an enemy to sleep before using the item. (Note: enemies resistant to sleep but not immune will only be stunned for a second so plan accordingly. However, enemies susceptible to sleep will not be awoken from being charmed unless you actually hit them with the stab animation).

If one has ample FP they can combine strategies 2 and 3 in order to charm a large group of enemies. This can be done by aggroing several enemies then spamming Darkness, causing them to harmlessly group up around you, whereupon use Sleep Pots to put them all to sleep, enabling you to charm them all in one go. Using Darkness again will wake them up. (Note: the grouping up is inconsistent so it’ll likely take more then one Bewitching Branch unless you use the Ash of War: Gravitas to pull them in close).

tried using it on the haligtree knights next to the putrid avatar near the elphael inner wall grace and it doesn't seem to work

It would be nice to know how they work before wasting a couple in the Niall fight. Like, does it automatically "hit" or not. Does it take several "hits" on an enemy or not. I noticed in mid chaos that it was some sort of mist. Threw two of these mists into the fray of banished knights, Niall and my summons, have no idea how good the mist seemed to cover anything. Well, after the branches were done and wasted, the two banished knights attacked me.

Bewitching branches work on the dogs in caelid but not the birds. Tried using 4 branches on a bird without success. Dogs bewitch in one successful cast.

To my present understanding, Bewitching Branches work on non-boss foes. I used some to make runebears fight, but also learned Grafted Scion (boss) was immune.

Kind of funny how Miquella’s needle helps to ward off outer influence while the bewitching branch works to grant you influence over others, and through a very similar method of embedding it into the skin.

Almost like Miquella reverse engineered the branch when they were making their needle(s). It also seems heavily implied that Miquella came up with the branches in the first place, and that’s why they were always so fond of Miquella’s Lily. Then there’s the whole mystery connection between Miquella and St. Trina with the lily’s and statues.

Does not work on the Undead, constructs (golems, abductor virgins, etc.), bosses or sub-bosses (obviously), or any of the non-respawning enemies in the world (i.e the Lions in Castle Sol).

Hey guys. Im working on a personal speedrun route through Eldenring, My speedrun in short is no glitches, no quit out and kill all Demigods + Endboss. Im thinking about using Bewitching Branch as a way to farm quickly as many runes as possible. So my question to you is if you can think of a place/ Enemy Pack where it would have the greatest effect. So im looking for an Enemy Pack that gives an unusual high amout of runes. The idea is to abuse the branch to beat this pack early on by bewitching a strong enemy and killing him while he is killing the other enemys. Any suggestion is appreceated. Ty ❤️

Enemies that this is very useful on are:
Banished Knights. Super useful at Castle Sol including BOTH of Niall's summons not just one.
                                  Cleanrot Knights
Battle Mages. Just before Loretta, sneak up on one and watch them battle it out. Super fun.
Also, if use it at just the right distance so they are hit with the very end of the mist, and not the actual pierce, you can use it on the little guys manning the ballistas throughout the game, and they will destroy anyone who is in front of them.

A good rule of thumb is if you cannot put them to sleep, they can't be bewitched (humanoids, like the leader knights).

Considerign that this item barely works on anything, it's really a sign that Miquela was hilariously inept.

This items is worse than useless. Every enemy I've had enough trouble with to be worth trying it out on (lesser runebears, crystallians, giant crayfish, etc) is immune to it, and any enemy that isn't immune to it is either not a problem to begin with or isn't really able to be reliably charmed.

I think this hints that Miquella not only has a natural carisma, but he also developed some sort of technique to control other people if needed.

Curiously, if you charm an enemy while they are winding up for an attack, they will continue to remain locked onto you for the duration.
This is most noticeable when its a REALLY long attack chain, such as the blistered dogs in Moghwyn Palace.

If you farm runes from co-oping Niall, that's probably the place to use it. Maybe I should have made more staunching thingies...

does this work on enemy players? say i invade someone, can i bewitch the host or his phantoms?
more than half the comments here say the same bloody thing about it being useful on commander Niall or whatever his name is and i am not gonna go through all that clutter. please read some of the comments before you brainlessly post something that has already been said a hundred times. thanks, that is all.

Maybe I'm suffering from an insight overdose but I just realized these look exactly like the little branches piercing the 4- and 5-legged eye spiders in Nightmare of Mensis. Again, they may also just both be sticks

I used this item to charm one of the small gargoyle ghosts in order to make them kill each other, to solve the puzzle for Albinauric Rise (in the concecrated snowfield area). And it worked perfectly.

I honestly don't know how else to solve that puzzle, it helped that I read the item's description when I found them and kept it in the back of my mind lol

Why is this a consumable? You can't even risk EXPERIMENTING to see what it works on, for heaven's sake. And as far as I can tell, it's ONLY useful against Niall. Should have given us a permanent version of this and let us make a ranged bewitching pot with the Miquella's Lilies smh

Doesn't work on Lesser Ulcerated Tree Spirit. I tried it on one during the trio Lesser Ulcerated Tree Spirit fight just for testing.

                                                                • Anonymous

300 hours into the game and I had no idea this item even existed until I saw Ongbal charmed Commander Nial's summons against him...

                                                                  • Anonymous

Ah yes, the item that makes it clear that Mohg likes little boys : He likes Miquella's "lily", aka his "bewitching branch", or rather, his "sacramental bud" *wink wink*. The latter's description mentioning something about "cultivated with youthful [...]"

                                                                    • Anonymous

Doesn't work on Haligtree Knights. There are two of them and an Erdtree Avatar guarding the Elphael Inner Wall grace. That fight is complete BS ganking with overpowered enemies and it was the only instance where I actually used the Bewitching Branch, hoping to even the odds, only to realize that it's useless garbage.

                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                        Clip: https://imgur.com/a/2SAmGiq

Can this be used of online phantoms to at least make friendly fire possible? I don't think it should, but you never know

                                                                          • Anonymous

If these work in PvP they might be extremely powerful for host and his ally phantoms, especially in tight quarter dungeons or when involving unusually powerful mobs they actually work on. Actually knowing what mobs, however, is a problem that will require this page to be updated over time.

                                                                            • Anonymous

the blurb that Miquella compels affection for himself, and getting this after finding Mohg seems to imply that he's been enthralled. The line "Miquella is mine and mine alone." certainly feels like something someone charmed to the point of obsession would say. I'm really interested in seeing more of Miquella to see how this theory floats.

                                                                              • Anonymous

This worked on the 2 summoned knights in the fight against Commander Niall in Castle Sol. Charmed one of them, and Niall went and pounded him into dirt. I was co-op'd while doing this, not sure how it will work while using an ash summon.

                                                                                • Anonymous

sooooo it's the shaman's blade from bloodborne but even less useful since the shaman blade atleast let you charm the giant shark-ogres.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

Utterly useless against any strong enemy. Tried using it to charm either the knight or the avatar outside the Elphael Inner Wall grace and all that happens is I die when they all look at me. Most worthless item in the entire game, even more so than glass shards which have literally no use

                                                                                    • Anonymous

The charm effect lasts for 3 minutes and will remain even if you run far away from the charmed enemy, until you go far enough that they despawn, of course. Enemies do not have to be physically struck or damaged by the bewitching branch's thrusting animation to be charmed. The actual charming attack seems to be the poof of pink smoke after thrusting, which emits a brief area-of-effect in front of you, because multiple enemies can be charmed with one use if they are bunched up in front of you.
Charmed enemies using turrets like ballistas will use them against visible enemies. Charmed enemies do not follow you, and if no hostile enemies are close by, they either stand still or seem to return to their spawn point or where they are scripted to stand or do an animation. For example, those packs of flying bats, if you aggro one single bat away from its pack then charm it, if will fly straight back to its pack. And be killed by its fellow batmen. Another example is the patrolling banished knight by the Rampart Tower elevator. If charmed he will resume his scripted patrol back and forth.
Charmed enemies will not attack other charmed enemies, they only attack enemies that are close to them and actively hostile to you, for example I charmed a miner and he did not attack the other miner right next to him, when I punched the uncharmed miner and he started chasing me, the charmed miner attacked him.
Charmed enemies cannot be locked on, but you can still attack and backstab/critical them. Charmed enemies will never retaliate if you attack them, and attacking them does not reduce the duration of the charm effect.
Be warned, you can still be harmed by a charmed enemy's attacks, stay out of their way if they are dangerous.
                                                                                      Confirmed uncharmable enemies:
Giant trolls, grafted scions, lesser runebears, godrick/radahn/ect. knights, kaiden mercenaries, giant and lesser spider hands, direwolves, and flame chariots cannot be charmed, and it is safe to assume bosses and such cannot be charmed.
                                                                                      Noteworthy confirmed charmable enemies:
Ogres, living pots, the caster atop the Highway Lookout Tower, and that flame-dust-spewing ***** at the Village of the Albinaurics can be charmed. While the last two sound useful, their actual practicality is limited. Charmed enemies do not follow you or search for enemies. Their lines-of-sight and hearing radiuses remain unchanged so in other words, they are almost blind and deaf. For example, the caster atop the tower will not snipe at everyone that spawns at the road below, because he is not looking in that direction and there is no way to make him look down there.
Basically, you must lead enemies to your charmed enemy, not the other way around.

TL;DR This is a ridiculously rare and niche item and I struggle to think of a good use for it beside some kind of hypothetical speedrun strat where you charm a powerful enemy so you can kill it effortlessly and take its drops or something.

                                                                                      • Anonymous
