Caestus is a Fist in Elden Ring. The Caestus scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and for melee characters looking for an extra bonus to damage protection, as Caestus's Endure ability reduces damage taken while in use.

 

A weapon built for striking with the fists, made of tough leather inlaid with iron rivets.

Fist weapons come in pairs, and two-handing this weapon will equip it to both hands.

  • The Caestus is modeled after the real-life weapon of the same name: A caestus, also spelled cestus (pronounced "SESS-tuss") is a type of leather glove from Ancient Rome used in gladiatorial fistfighting, a predecessor to modern-day boxing. Its name comes from the Latin kestós, meaning "stitched" or "embroidered".

        The r2 is massively overturned, winning trades against hammers and GS even without hyperarmor… and true combos if poise broken. This means getting interrupted actually plays into your favor because the caestus r2 is so fast and hit stun is so short you can just mindless spam r2. I really wish we could go back to before 1.10 ruined everything :((((

          Guys, did you know this thing can become a healing item?

          If you take off the "Ca" from the name, it becomes a healing bottle that heals you 60% for each gulp you do.

            I just punched the Fire Giant's kidneys to oblivion with a pair of these while being half naked. 10/10 weapon do recommend.

                PvE wise you ll see people talking about how bad their range is. But you'll probably think: Well, fist weapons, duh. I can deal with that.
                Then you realize that it's not only erdtree avatars and gargoyles you miss 50% of the times.
                You can even stand inside Hoarah Loux pounding his crotch and your attacks somehow miss.

                  Except, it’s really far less oppressive than dual lances, even with something as busted as RKR in PvP. Outspace and punish. You can’t stand and expect to win a trade war with the most close range weapon class in the game. Fists finally excel at what they’re supposed to, despite they’re pretty significant drawbacks.

                    Caestus with royal knight resolve is an instakill true combo against my 30% physical absorb 1,9k health guy... we were complayining how dual lance is the most broken thing in the game, so fromsoftware decided to change it... by making caestus the most broken thing -.-

                      I just want people to know the recent buff was so over kill, that me and the guy below thought it was some kind of glitch. Fist weapons now have more damage than collosals. Literally. It takes 4-5 hits for a collosal to kill me. 2 running attacks and one r2 for caestus to kill me.

                        What glitch or exploit are people using to make this do crazy damage an uncharged r2? I’m talking 600 damage on uncharged r2. My only two losses of the sesh were two different dudes doing mediocre damage and suddenly vigor checking on uncharged r2 trades. I know it’s a glitch/exploit/oversight because caestus couldn’t do jack on an r2 last week.

                          Reminder that the dual-wielded/2handed strong attack deals 133 poise damage, so it goes through all passive poise. Not sure whether it's the same for the one-handed strong attack but it's more than likely the case

                            idk whether all its attacks got range and speed buffs or not but I’m messing with these and: running strong attack combos nicely into charged or uncharged standing strong attack, and charged strong attacks are pretty quick for how good they are at poise breaking, and an uncharged strong does a surprising amount of damage for being a single straight punch.

                            I like the animations and I like a strong attack focused playstyle with this. Other option is of course to get bleed and throw out lots of quick attacks, but I prefer the strong straight punches and elbow strikes and stuff.

                            Still whiffs badly vs Erdtree Avatar and presumably some other bosses, so you have to go out of your way to aim at their legs/side since you’ll whiff from the front.

                              The spiked Caestus is only better by 2 AR at most and some minimal bleed. If you aren't building for bleed, it's unlikely you'll proc it on most enemies before killing them outright so the 0.5 less weight arguably makes this better on non-arcane builds.

                                The hitbox is really small. Jumping attacks whiff a lot and even point-blank ones miss on some enemies with this weapon.

                                  Like any Ash of War that doesn't directly strike with your weapon, such as stomps, shouts etc? Slot on this and put in right hand slot 2. You now have a second hot swap AoW at your disposal. Works with any build that doesn't rely on RH weapon buffs. I like horah loux's earthshaker or beast's roar.

                                    Doing a "Warrior" run where I'm purely using Caestus, been messing around with it in PvE and PvP. PvE, the short range is very much a detriment, but you can land a great many hits in short time. I've had a lot of luck using Quickstep as the attack after Quickstep is a two hit combo with decent range. 'Course Spiked Caestus is just...better, but it's extremely enjoyable to just pummel things with the closest you can get to bare hands.

                                    In PvP it can provide a healthy amount of pressure but mind the low poise damage with the R1s. Interestingly, I sometimes perform a leaping double axe handle attack after a Quickstep instead of the usual running attack. It's a very useful attack, but I have no idea how I'm doing it? I can't replicate it in PvE. If anyone has an idea about this please let me know.

                                        Gaston now reopens his store even while stomping on Godrick's face. (Not sure if there's a specific trigger, as I found this while collecting equipment I'd missed before starting NG+)

                                          It is 100% worth running Caestus/Spiked Caestus over Iron Ball/Star Fist simply because the R2's are super cool looking, even if they do less damage. Gives me some awesome Kung Fu lookin' vibes.

                                              Been ****ing around in duels with a pair of +25 Heavy Caestus at the start of NG+ with about 64 str, these things do pretty fair combo damage but only if you can actually hit. Hit a couple jump attacks for around 830 but idk if they were using talismans or not. The range is abysmal and poise damage is very low, meaning any heavy armor or shield build will absolutely end you. Basically needs bloodhound step to make it work at all. Moveset is pretty fun otherwise though. I think spiked caestus is literally just a better version of this weapon but whatever.

                                                So many enemies early on are weak to strike damage, so it's nice to have something to stagger them with while doing normal attacks. For when you don't feel like using Reduvia.

                                                  This is still an S tier. Instead of using this as a parry/regen tool like in ds3, you use it as an ash of war tool. Still fits on every build. I suggest Lightning Ram on this is the meta lol

                                                    Any reason to use this regular Caestus over Spiked one? Looks like scaling the same, but you have neat blood loss effect on spiked, so maybe this one have more poise damage or something like this?

                                                          I've been playing through the game soley with this weapon, its pretty solid damage, good speed and the weapon art gives you super armor and something like 50 percent dmg reduction at a low mana cost. Def fun if you are going for a martial artist build.
