Cipher Pata is a Fist in Elden Ring. The Cipher Pata scales with Faith and deals holy attack.
One of the weapons originating from the Two Fingers. A formless sequence of ciphers comprise its blade, and as such no shield can repel it. Deals holy damage.
The furtive inscription appears to hang in the air; the language of light spoken by the Two Fingers.
Where to Find Cipher Pata in Elden Ring
- Found in the side room to the left in the same area Mad Tongue Alberich invades at the Roundtable Hold.
- To get there, go up the big stairs at Roundtable Hold and jump off the balcony, then, enter the door to the left and advance along the left side. At the end of the final room, turn right and loot it off the burnt corpse lying on the bed at the end.

Used it for an early co-op build to help newbies, and it works well! Good damage (if upgraded),speed, and skill.
- Anonymous
I’d love it if these things had reduced scaling and allowed for the AoW to be changed. The drip factor is there, but as far as PvE goes I’d rather run erdtree dagger. It can accomplish the same goal and have an AoW.

Lads the thing at the bottom still has claws instead of fists
I’m just a puny anon can someone fix? Much thank

Amazing weapon for PvE and PvP.
I finally tried a pure faith build, started as prophet, at level 150 i had:
60 vigor
30 mind
21 endurance
80 faith
Using banish knight set and cipher pata, erdtree seal + one seal to boost the incantation type i eas using and swapping it if needed (godslayer seal, graven stone seal, etc)
Cipher pata it's amazing for regular enemies and the ash of war is really fast compared to the coded sword, 2 or 3 stagger most enemies, but of course its a secondary weapon, for most bosses incantations are the way to go, and late game dont even bother to use it for bosses (starting with morgott i would say) as most of the end game bosses have high holy damage resistance, your main source of damage are incantations, the main ones i used were:
Black flame
Catch flame
Lightning spear
Honed bolt
Frenzied burst
Pest threads
Golden vow
Flame grant me strength
And also:
Howl of shabriri to buff other damage types besides fire as long as i felt safe with the 30% damage taken debuff(most overworld bosses like the avatars i used torrent to keep my distance with frenzied burst range to kill them )
Running 1 handed heavy --> heavy combo: I sleep
Running 1 handed heavy --> Wrath of Gold combo: I slumber
Running 1 handed heavy --> catch flame (x2?)--> Flame of frenzy --> honed bolt --> lightning strike combo: I wake
Running 1 handed heavy --> catch flame --> Gurranq boulder --> Placidusax: I... AM... ALIVE!

"This upgrade can be enchanted with Magic" - like hell it can, I just wasted my time farming the armament incantations and they can't even be used. Someone needs to edit this to fix it.
- Anonymous
Zero weight, so no harm in using 2 of these instead of a single one being 2 handed and for good reason.
Currently in patch 1.08.1, you will get less damaging R2's and different running attacks with 2 of them. However the main reason to use 2 of them is to keep access to the 1H R2's. Especially the standing R2.
PvP:
1H R2 (uncharged) = 135 poise damage (staggers anyone)
2H R2 (uncharged) = 101.25 poise damage (I don't get why it's less but it is)
1H running R2 = 135 poise damage (staggers faster than 2H)
2H running R2 = 81+81 (162 poise damage)
PvE:
1H R2 (charged) = 30 poise damage
2H R2 (charged) = 7.5+7.5 (15 poise damage)

Also, hate to be that guy, but this is a fist weapon, not a claw weapon, Fextra.
- Anonymous
I think it makes a really good off hand weapon for faith builds.
- Anonymous
Honestly, as some one who is a fan of these, I like your take, guy below me. A coded greatsword would have been bad@ss.
- Anonymous
They really dropped the ball with not making a 3rd holy scripture weapon like a Coded Greatsword or Cipher Glaive with 40 fai requirement. Only having the Coded Sword at 20 fai and Cipher Pata at 30 fai just seems, idk, unfinished and not enough. They're the only pure elemental weapons in the whole game, and they are so cool, but they just don't feel fleshed-out enough by themselves.
- Anonymous
These are cracked now, along with the other fists. Sure, katar and spiked caestus are just better but this thing weighs zero, the WA rollcatches panich rolls after your running R1 or your Running heavy into heavy combo, and you can just ignore shield poke. I use to use coded swords, now i use this. as of 1.08, this thing is up theres in terms of actually being good and being wild cool.
- Anonymous
Anyone notice it’s just a claw version of coded sword. Both do 85 holy damage, both scale purely in faith, and both have unblockable blade as thier skill. Cipher pata is just less heavy and has less reach just like any other claw weapon compared to a straight sword.
- Anonymous
Good fro str/faith builds, as it is really fast and can be used to finish of other players when your big bonk weapon is too slow.
- Anonymous
As the weight is 0.0, it's an excellent offhand weapon for a Faith build, mostly for the skill, as Unblockable Blade will easily stagger most enemies with shields, like Knights.
Just make sure to be in front of the enemy before using the skill as it has no tracking, but the damage is very good if you land a hit.
If FS were to add tracking to it and improve damage, weapon would easily become B or A- grade.
- Anonymous
A really good secondary weapon for if an enemy is low and you need a quick attack, also it being weightless makes it really good for if you want light rolling.

NO S SCALING! I literally use this weapon, along coded sword, as my Faith/frenzy build in pve and these 2 faith-only scaling weapons do not have S SCALING!! From is trolling right?!
- Anonymous
Either holy damage is glitched or From lied about its intended use. How is it that thing that is a creation of the 2 fingers, comprised of holy scripture and deals 100% holy damage still not kill undead permanently. Same with sacred relic sword AOW, no reason these things, and really anything with holy damage, shouldnt keep undead down, Theres really only a few weapons/AOW that do and the category would be so much more effective if it worked properly.

Perfect weapon and tool for pure holy casters, It´s just the make the game much easier without breaking it like the Azur beam. This is a list of pros and cons
Pros:
1.- No weight, that means with only 8 or more endurance you can prioritize really good armor more than any other build if you want
2.- Good damage overall, it goes between 463 - 493 AR with 60/80 Faith
3.- The powerstance just double the damage
4.- Really good reach for the run atack for punishing people in pvp
5.- Counter any enemy with shields in pvp and pve with the ash of war
6.- The ash of war when you invade or you get invaded in lower levels can oneshot ithe enemy if they have normal to low vigor
7.- The ash also has really good damage and poise damage vs booses
8.- Like I said earlier, really good tool, even if you don´t have FP, the ash still does good poise damage without FP
9.- With this in your build, if you use incantations you will have physical, fire, lighting and holy damage, so the argument of "it´s really bad late game" isn´t a real problem
10.- Easy access early game, defeat some random boss or go take the teleport in the quest of D and there you go, talk to Melina and she will take you to the round table
11.- Giga chad weapon, crush your enemies with your holy hands and pure faith. 11/10
Cons:
1.- Short reach, so pick your fights well, don´t expect an easy fight if you only use this vs spears or colossal swords in pvp
2.- With shorter range you really gonna notice than some bosses have more body box than hurt box (tip:
with the tree sentinels just use fire incantations)
3.- really bad if you don´t power stance like... any other fist or low weight weapon, idk why would you not do this when you have free access to a second one without grinding, trading or NG+ but it´s a con I guess
4.- Awful when you block, you negate 6% physical damage and you lose too much stamina because of the boost rating so 99% of the time you really don´t have a block button except for the niche situation of holy attacks (61% negation)
5.- Bad in late game if you rely ONLY on this weapon, but hey it gives you 99 in cool factor
Also the bonuses of seals stack if you have the same one in your left and right hand. I throw this tip bc not many people know that even today.
Go my fellow tarnished and spread the word of God

Wait did they change its original location?? I'm pretty sure i got them near a nomad merchant in Liurna.
Might be wrong. I'm kinda dumb.

Currently on NG+9 and just found out there is a whole second floor to the roundtable hold with this weapon. How I am still discovering things in this game after 300+ hours is beyond me.

This is a very good option to help building a faith char faster. Faith is a very flexible status on this game, as besides holy dmg, elemental dmg (thunder, fire) and status effects (bleed, poison), you can use bestial incantations to use faith to deal physical and magical dmg. Cipher pata is a very early weapon that deals pure holy dmg, scales purely with faith and weights nothing. Just keep upgrading it as much as you can, summon your spirit ashes and mash the weapon art to dispatch tibia mariner and cemetery shades to get deathroots.

Super confused. Beat Mad Tongue Alberich and thought, "surely there's something cool back here. Rooms were all empty. Came here confused because I thought surely there's something back here. Apparently my game glitched and there just isn't a corpse in the bed. At all.
Who wrote this article mentioning that the weapon is "elvish" and "looks cool"?
Very useful information.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words hurt me more
Its guard boost goes down as you upgrade it. Goes from 20 to 19 for me from +9 to +10.

I run a flame art sword n board build at 80 faith. I have this weapon on switch to diversify my damage types. Honestly even at +10 with 80 faith the damage is nothing crazy. It's a handy shield buster sidearm but that's about it. It weighs nothing so there's no harm in slapping it on an empty equip slot for a high faith build, but don't expect it to carry you as a main weapon.
- Anonymous
Really wanted to use this weapon but a certain unskippable boss reduces holy damage by 80%. Technically doable but still doesn't sound like a good time haha
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
pros: Looks cool, only one stat requirement, no carry weight, only fromsoft game with good Faith options
cons: More of a katar than a pata, fist weapon moveset, just sorta poking a guy with some elvish.

I first found these weapons on my 6th playthrough (FTH) and i ****ing laughed for like 5 minutes on just how adorable these things sound, i love it, really good for trutles in PVE and PVP

Let me just put all the theories to rest:
A "pata" is a weapon from India that looks like a gauntlet with a long blade sticking out from the fist.
"Cipher" refers to the fact that it's made out of text.
- Anonymous
From a lore perspective, the fact that the symbols on this pure holy weapon resemble those on the incantations sold by Brother Corhyn, he may be infact the 'Cipher Pata'. Translating the symbols also reveals text linking to Corhyn and his allegiance to 'Pata'. This should help us to determine who is wearing the Elden Ring. Someone should tell Vaati

I love to do critical attacks with this and go "AAAAAAAMMMEEEEEENNNN!!!"

Since this does pure faith damage, why doesn't it stop undead from regenerating?
- Anonymous
cipher pata is a very powerful weapon against mobs, and not bad in PVP - i fought off several invaders by using these with high aggression. they should ALWAYS be used 2 handed. mediocre for bosses, but if you're running pure faith, then you should have a few spells (rot breath) that can do most of the work on them. suggest keeping a good strike weapon for backup - nox flowing hammer is a good fit. cipher's use is limited in the late game due to enemies and bosses with lots of faith resistance. if you hit a wall with faith damage, consider switching to Spiked Fists, as they are cheap, similar feeling, and cause blood loss. in general cipher pata seems to perform better than a coded sword at equivalent level.
- Anonymous
okay guys, i think the joke here is, the miyazaki guy was being laughed at and people were apparently saying he had a foot fetish, so, this weapon is attached to your hand, "Cipher Pata", "a system of writing that prevents most people from understanding the message." "foot"
so its a big joke nobody will get unless they put the pieces together, and also haha now miyazaki is making everyone touch feet.
- Anonymous
This is particularly effective against shieldpokers in PVP, along with Yura's sword with the default ash of war2
- Anonymous
For the uninitiated, Cipher means, according to the Cambridge Dictionary: a system of writing that prevents most people from understanding the message.
Pata means foot in Spanish.
From this data we can conclude, therefore, that the Elden Ring is just a codeword for Feet, and our true misison as Tarnished in the Lands Between is to reach Marika and her Elden Feet to sniff and achieve true ascension into Lordship. Truly Miyazaki's Magnum Opus

Perhaps Im dumb but... If this weapon deals pure faith damage, then why does it deal slash/pierce damage? Does it matter at all, if damage isnt physical? Sorry if my question is dumb
- Anonymous
If you already have high faith, then there's really no reason not to have this as your right handed sidearm. It weighs actually nothing and when two-handed the DPS is actually pretty good. WA of course punishes shields, but it also seems to do pretty damn good stagger damage as well. Seems great to just have around for PVP.

Wish these didn't look like two rulers tapped to your hands.

You know, instead of the baraka look.. if these were coded and "formed" around our fore arm or wrist like the snake coils for the duelist that would've been sick.

I've been trying to use this on a new character for a while. So far, my impressions are:
+ Decent damage, decent weapon art, works on rock enemies
- Terrible poise damage - good luck trying to use the regular attacks, because you won't stun anybody
- Terrible reach - it's a fist weapon, of course
- Weapon art does good damage and stun, but the reach is a lot shorter than I like
I'm also working on a dual status rapier build, but that build at least has 4 statuses to apply and a much longer reach than this thing. The incredibly short reach and awful poise damage make this weapon a real pain to use. Get ready to use a lot of spells.
- Anonymous
Love how this just shows up in your inventory if you kill him.
- Anonymous
I use fist weapons, as they are extremely light. Recently started raising my faith, and noticed this one. I just have 11 endurance - every gram matters, and this weapon has 0 weight which is a match made in heaven. Very good as an alternative damage source at 0 weight.
- Anonymous
Has this been moved in the recent patch? Burnt corpse on the bed is empty on my current NG.
- Anonymous
Have been using this for some time after 1.03 and sometime notice to get buffs after WA killing NPC. Can't find out on my own what triggers it since it is not a common occurance , but buff looks to increase damage and stamina regen. Would be nice to hear if someone else noticed such thing to occur.
- Anonymous
This is a super fun weapon to use but suffers because of some hitbox issues against larger enemies and a few bosses. For example you cannot hit the erdtree avatars at all with this weapon if you are facing them from the front, you have to swipe at their sides to hit their legs because the weapon does not reach far enough, Godrick suffers the same issue and I'm sure there are probably more out there.
Still fun to use though, very fast and quite high damage, the weapon art is what really shines too.
- Anonymous
I wish a future patch will make them look thicker, they'd go up on the coolness scale
- Anonymous
I’m 28 faith at level 50 and kinda struggling to use this. I can do some damage but vs more than one enemy, I have to get so close I just get hurt or killed easily. It’s the short range I find difficult to handle.
- Anonymous
This weapon is Awesom for a Faith-Caster build. High scaling, no weight and the weapon art murders Shields (the biggest weakness of every PVE Caster build in my opinion). No Reason not to have this as Backup at least.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Increadible weapon on a pure faith build. No weight, high damage, fast attacks. And you can get it very early. If you're planning on using this weapon though, I hate to dissapoint you but it will not entirely be possible. The reason is that one of the later bosses is nigh immune to holy damage (80% absorption). Your +10 Cipher Pata with Holy boosting Physick and Holy scorpion talisman will deal less than 90 damage to this boss. Absolutely horrible. This means that you HAVE to have a backup plan that does not involve holy damage (at least not ONLY holy damage). I chose a Flame Art Spiked Caestus coupled with some fire incantations. Completely zero overlapp with the build I wanted to do but it is quite literally impossible to defeat the boss in question otherwise.
- Anonymous
Is it better to use somber stones to upgrade this or save them for codes sword?
- Anonymous
I've had success using the WA of this weapon against great shield rapier pokers in PVP. It ignores all shields and does 600-1000 damage each time. Usually, you can spam it and they will just continue cluelessly holding up their shields until they die. It's pretty satisfying.
- Anonymous
Awesome faith weapon. Power stance for dual wield, unblockable lunge with heavy damage and poise break, fairly easy to upgrade early to 9, weightless so you can go for med or light roll with a bit of endurance invest (I got light roll with lighter armors at about 30)... definitely recommended
- Anonymous
I've had some success using this to kill great shield rapier pokers in PVP. The WA does full damage through any shield regardless of guard break reduction or resistances, usually for 600-1000 damage each time. This usually catches them off guard and forces them to change their strategy, which shield players usually are not good at. Typically, you can spam the WA and they will just hold up their shield until they are dead.

stun potential on the WA is underrated, really good for bringing down giants

This weapon doesn't get enough credit. With 8 endurance I can wear heavy armor with it because it weighs nothing. It works best with dual wielding which is the same as 2 handing for this weapon. The 2H attack hits twice each time so whatever stat is listed it's pretty much twice that. It pretty much ignores shields and walls so you do not have to worry about narrow paths. Since it's for a pure faith build whatever it cannot do incantations can. You can get it at the very start of the game. Due to the fast attacks it does more damage than a basic greatsword over the same amount of time. I just beat Rennala with it with ease. Also it is pure faith so you need no other stats to use it. I have heard people say the coded sword is better but I cannot figure out why. The only way the sword would be better is if it had a dual wield option as well. I rarely use the weapon arts when I have a whole arsenal of incantations to draw from anyways.
- Anonymous
Having the jump boost and faith boost amulets make this weapon one shot most infantry mobs. The skill is insane for breaking poise and bosses. A good close up weapon when other faith spells aren’t working from distance
- Anonymous
Decent early game for dealing with the miner mobs due to speed and the fact it goes right through their phys defense. This is a good backup weapon for ledges/areas where a scythe might bounce off walls. It weighs nothing, so if a slot isn't getting used for something else, might as well throw it in there if you're going heavy faith.

Actually terrible in pve. Really small hitboxes means that half the time your attacks just do not land on large bosses or even large monsters like gargoyles.
- Anonymous
Decent in pvp as a backup shield breaker. People don't expect it and its AOW damage is often enough to kill a half health player.
- Anonymous
It says it deals holy damage but does affect skeletons for some reason.
- Anonymous
Not very useful in late game even for pure faith builds, having a weapon that you can apply buff is way more important than A scaling, or just get the halo scythe. Not worthy to get +10
- Anonymous
I thought that this would be like a glowing tattoo that would appear over your forearms. Instead it turns out to be a blade, which might be more practical but looks positively silly
- Anonymous
Because of how damage is calculated (lower amounts are disproportionately mitigated) these benefit a *lot* from the first few upgrades

this **** is so short that most of the attacks in Godrick's back are not connecting

the running attack is pretty good too. very quick & good damage since both blades hit.

One shotting most people in PVP at +5 RL58 with the skill for this. Unreal faith build weapon
- Anonymous
Good early but falls off hard. Still does well as a supplement, but it can't be your main dps.
- Anonymous
man if only these could Parry... they wouldve been a mainstay on my Faith build as an offhand...
- Anonymous
I rolled a new toon just to use this weapon properly. All its attacks go through shields, not just the special attack, so you can swipe through knights, and even walls, with no trouble. As a faith caster, the special is essentially a short range lightning spear and the most FP efficient thing in your spell book. Because it's so fast when you duel wield them, the DPS is much higher than the base damage would imply.
- Anonymous
Been using this most of my playthrough now, only real issue is with tall bosses they tend to miss a lot because of the short range. Made Renalla way harder than she should have been
Are really wish these had a handle or a gauntlet that went with them. Having little squigly lines coming out of your fists looks a bit silly.
