A great way to farm souls if you have the Great Relic Sword and have access to the Mohgwyn Palace: Use the Wave of Gold skill of the Great Relic Sword on the group a short distance from the Palace Approach site of grace to wipe out the entire group and gain over 30k runes per use on NG with the golden scarab talisman. May be possible with other skills, but I haven't seen another skill with such good damage, range, and breadth.
