Ahem...
NO I'M NOT INFUSING MY GREAT HAMMER WITH BLEED STOP TELLING ME TO

What is the bleed buildup for it? Is it higher than base Uchigatana?
- Anonymous
I honestly despise that bleed is pretty much the only good dex affinity. Like, okay you can go quality and spec into two stats that gives you better AR technically, but does that even come close to being able to proc bleeds ? Not to mention with bloodlord's exultation you get 20% damage buff after every bleed proc. Lightning is kinda meh, and poison, quite frankly, sucks. You'd only go for poison to have double DoT usually.

For anyone unaware, occult affinity + arcane characters are absolutely broken. With high arcane and base stat physicals, you deal far more physical damage than you ever could by sinking a high investment into heavy strength or keen dex builds. On top of that, which is already enough, it boosts bleed and other status's except rot the same as if you'd infused with that ailment, so you get more damage than you would from raw focus, you get the same status buildup as status focused, and you get all the little synergies like arcane magic and item drop rate to boot.
Occult = META

Probably just the PVP side of me complaining, but I really wish status infusions didn't give greater buildup than weapons that already have innate buildup of said status. I just don't think the bleed infused bastard sword should do more buildup than the flamberge, but I guess with how much it chunks your scaling it's ok... Maybe if it was more toned down with less scaling penalty it'd be more balanced!

You can give any dagger+25 the blood affinity and it instantly gets about 83 points of blood loss build up, without any investment in arcane. Makes you wonder why invest in arcane.

Invest 60-80 points in Arcane and get this for the privilege of a B scaling in most cases and making your weapon un-buffable.
Makes sense, right?
Weapons without inherent bleed should either be buffable, or get Dark damage, or smt. Pure Arcane have bad damage and no cake on 98% of weapons (and few spells).

It’s worth noting that once you get high enough points into strength, dexterity, and arcane, the Blood affinity will surpass the Occult affinity in both damage and blood loss buildup
I initially thought it was strange that occult weapons couldn't be buffed where in DS3 hollow-infused weapons could. But now that the game's been out a while, I gotta say that Arcane builds really DON'T need any more bleed/frostbite than they already have.

Occult is a great choice for anyone already pumping Arcane for the Dragon Communion Seal. Very pleased with my +25 Occult Nightrider Flail.

This does awesome arcane scaling, definitely the best for bleed builds

Very disappointed with occult, at 50 Dex/60 Arc I consistently find my AR lower with occult, even with the bleed buff it gets when compared to Keen + Buff excluding Dragon Communion seal which is doing wonky things to buffs, perhaps I'm just stupid but until R.o.B. and/or Eleonora gets nerfed I'll stick to it before respec.

I feel like I’m missing out on how to effectively use this item. I’m a pure STR build, but when I add a phys ash (determination), I can add it as a blood affinity, but it still drops my STR scaling back to non-phys ash levels. So, no change there from pre-black whetblade.
Conversely, if I add bloody slash, I can now add it as a Heavy affinity, which maintains STR scaling and gives me the bloody slash L2 attack…but no bleed attacks with R2/R2.
Is this how it works?

Occult weapons can't be buffed, even if they are pure physical. At first I thought this was an issue with arcane scaling weapons not being buffable, but varre's bouquet scales with arc, has bleed, AND is buffable. Why is it like this? I feel like Occult is just worse than keen + bloodflame unless you use Seppuku. This kills arcane build variety.
I was a bit disappointed that my arcane build wouldn't get Occult until Radahn and then remembered I could obliterate him with Rotten Breath. Dunno if it's too cheaty or not to do though

none of these affinities are available for any ash of war for me, is this a bug?
So what does Occult do exactly? I think bloody is better than occult?
- Anonymous
I have this but in the normal ashes of war, it's not applying poison affinity, I also have red hot whet blade and so fire affinity is available but poison isn't for some reason. Is this a bug or just me ?

There's also a Red Hot Whetblade in Redmane Castle. Gives Fire/Flame Art affinity.

It's a shame that Occult weapons that only get physical arcane scaling and nothing else cannot be buffed with sorceries/incantations.

This is a game changing item for anyone going for status builds. I stumbled upon it by chance after spending many hours searching for poison/blood whips and claws. With this whetstone you can apply a basic physical ashes of war that works for almost any weapon type (like war stomp, determination etc) including whips and claws and apply poison or bleed to them! Bleed/poison power stancing whips hoh baby.

Map link seems to be wrong. Btw can you get this without beating any bosses?

there's also a red-hot whetblade down in caelid, in redmane castle if you go past the iron maiden guy and up the ladder
It's a dagger type weapon. I found it and it let me equips. It deals slash and magic.
