Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana is a Great Katana in Elden Ring. It is a brand-new Great Katana in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for fightining dragons and inflicting Blood Loss.
Great katana with spines of gravel stone along its blade, wielded by the Ancient Dragon-Man of the Dragon's Pit. Has an anti-dragon effect. Formerly a Dragon Communion warrior, the Ancient Dragon-Man was once arbiter of those worthy to devour the Dreaded One.

If you hold instead of press while using Dragonwound Slash, the range of skill will increased a little. (Learned that from my Mimic).
- Anonymous
No way this would actually have a scabbard. Really rough choice. Still looks ok with the messmer soldier armor imo.
Great move set though. Seems like every attack combos into the regular attack chain starting with the second R1. Even the WA can combo into the second R1 thrust.
- Anonymous
forget arcane this should scale with faith and int just so I specifically can use it
- Anonymous
Worse than regular Great Katana with a good AoW if you're not fighting dragons. Amazing against dragons though so it's great to have in your pocket for hard swaps if you're running Great Katana.

This weapon absolutely DOMINATED bayle!!
Really recommend it if you're struggling with him.
Lore wise too, this weapon is what you're supposed to use to slay bayle.

Why are people saying this should scale with arcane?
It does purely physical damage and the bleed effect is a given for katanas.
Don't whine and say things need to change just because your build can't use it.
- Anonymous
who knew fromsoft also likes monhun??
the two-hand r1 moveset is exactly the same as the long sword (katana) moveset
in monhun you are literally a dragon hunter so.. this is the monster hunter sword!
- Anonymous
I sure hope they patch out the scabbard. They have to know that thing is ugly as sin and clips horribly right? The very least they could've done is make the sheathe actually match the color scheme of the blade itself.

Why is this a quality weapon? This should scale with Arcane

If you are fighting dragons, consider using running R1 into R1. Both attacks will deal thrust damage instead of slice, which most dragons are strong against. Against Bayle a running R1 literally deals more damage than a two-handed jumping R2.

Anyone knows if the AoW is affected by Arrow's Reach Talisman ?

Don't worry about attack rating for this weapon. The ash of war is good on everything with base stats to wield. Was having trouble with the commander guy on the boar so I put this on and could punish all his attacks. Also attack doesnt matter when it does good stance damage with basic attacks and at range with special attack.

- Anonymous
Wait so does the normal attack do extra damage or just the ash of war?
- Anonymous
If this didn't have the dumbest sheathe in existence it'd be perfect.
- Anonymous
Not the faint of heart that can't handle clipping, because the sheath is too long and will be a CONSTANT reminder.
- Anonymous
It might have been one of the coolest weapons, if only it hadn't had this ugly ass scabbard
- Anonymous
Does anybody know if the Weapon Art's damage is increased by the Death Knight set?
- Anonymous
i have a question the ash of war can be bush by the death knight armor set ? "Each piece enhances skills and incantations of the ancient dragon cult by 2%, totaling at 8%."

Got this weapon and immediately respected to use it. Coolest weapon in the game now
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
does this do extra damage against the dragon heart transformations?
- Anonymous
This does really good damage. It also feels like it does true damage for some reason.
- Anonymous
while it does have a gimmick usefulness against dragon enemies I also just think it's a good weapon in general, rare Quality build W

Thank god for this weapon carrying me through jagged peak,if i had to beat another dragon with hand-to-hand i would have lost my mind

If you’re having trouble with Bayle, I recommend using this weapon. The ash of war absolutely destroys bayle.

Shard of Alexander + Godfrey Icon = aroound 10 charged hits on Bayle's head and he in dragon heaven.

Can you stop making dragonslaying weapons that use slash damage… for 5 minutes?!
- Anonymous
>make two great katanas that are themed around blood and dragons
>neither of them scale with arcane
You had one goddamn job, From.
- Anonymous
This absolutely lives up to it's name. At 50 strength and dex, the AoW hits for about 16k on the jagged peak dragon's head.

This is what I like to call the Bloodhound’s Fang of the DLC. Cool weapon, has bleed, fun ash of war, and everyone has it.
- Anonymous
this things ash hits like a freight train and it's got a pretty good moveset, worth a try i'd say.
- Anonymous
Currently using this at +9 and it's crazy. Though the weapon art eats at my stamina when fully charged I spill l wouldn't mind a follow up attack either.
- Anonymous
Truly changed my mind on quality builds in Elden ring, absolutely decimated bayle with the ash of war and rolling r1s
- Anonymous
this is the better version of dark moon greatsword.
-no issues against enemies with strong magic def
-shorter charge time
-more damage
-doesnt need to be activated before using it
every big boss after i got the sword took me less than 10 trys except the endboss(no summons, godfreys ikone, great alexander shard,ng4)
- Anonymous
I don’t know if it’s been mentioned, but this weapon(and maybe the other great katanas, need to find them) have the special back step charging r2 attack that curved swords and thrusting swords have
- Anonymous
This is really really cool, but as others have said: i wish it scaled with arcane.
There is a misconception going on that 'dragon communion' means 'ally of the dragons' and that this is therefore not a dragon communion weapon. Dragon communion is closer to stealing power from the dragons, and entails no small amount of dragon hunting (the hearts remember?). That, combined with the flame effect being similar to the dragon communion altar flames means this is likely meant to be a dragon communion weapon.
Lore aside, i like this weapon but its definitely not my go to 'best use for most situations' which means i'd want to swap it back and forth with other weapons. Right now im using Eleanora's Poleblade in most instances, and the normal Great Katana with Stormcaller for humanoid bosses (stunlocks them) and horse combat.
Sadly, since this means i have arcane really high and i dont have any quality weapons i WOULD like as my main weapon, that means this one cant get a spot in my setup in most cases. Will keep it around for when i face Bayle though.

An charged Attack like Stormruler or Snake Hunter. Hits the Head if Dragons very easy and make good damage against them.

i test it ,its not that i thought , first great katana close to dragon work better to me. sound like some attacks miss the target and not hit to enemy + slower than first one.
- Anonymous
Ash of war ain't bad for 3000 damage without buffs (Only tested this out on Bayle and a few invaders.)
- Anonymous
Fighting Bayle with this weapon (+9) and level 9 shadow blessing has to be the most thrilling dragon fight for me. Though imo this weapon only feels good when fighting against Bayle
- Anonymous
This weapon makes Bayle much less difficult IMO. The jump from the ash of war gets you to the same level as his head
- Anonymous
Ok fine From Software, you win, I'll make a quality build character. Happy now?

They really need to remove the sheathes from the great katanas. They look horrible.

Dragon communion weapon but no ARC scaling. Ty Michael Zaki.
- Anonymous
Siluria's tree aow is just better imo. Better range, poise dmg and dmg in general (despite this blade's aow dmg buff against dragons) + you can buff it with sacred scoprion charm and holy tear. Shard of alexander and godfrey icon work with that blade too as with spear, but you just shouldn't forget about it

siluria's tree is just better against bayle, has better range, poise dmg and somehow charged dmg in general

Ugliest scabbard I've ever seen and it's buried 2 feet in the ground
I can't use this anime bs
- Anonymous
Most fun of the weapons with innate anti dragon effects. Mostly because it feels great leaping up against a huge opponent and actually puts the weaker head damage zone in range.
- Anonymous
No arcane scaling and not infusable so no actual synergy with the dragon incantations.
- Anonymous
The light attack moveset is almost a carbon copy of the longsword from Monster Hunter World.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
This is like Serpent-Hunter but for Dragons.
FYI. Only the Ash of War is anti-dragons. Normal attacks damage is just like any other great weapon. Be sure to span AOW against dragons.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
does this work against the wyrm at that cave i have not beaten a single dragon at this dlc they are way too beefy
- Anonymous
Using this weapon + doing Igon quest + ascending Jagged Peak and having the final showdown with Bayle was one of the most memorable parts of the DLC for me.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I love this thing but the scabbard is so long that is constantly clips through the floor and looks terrible. I wish we could remove scabbards or that it just didn’t have one,
- Anonymous
lvl 150 STR 53 DEX 40 at +9 the AR is 670 (838 with 5 stacks of the shadow buff). I'm running this with Carian Filigreed Crest, Godfrey Icon, Shard of Alexander and Dragoncrest Greatshield talismans. The fully charged ash deals around 2k damage to Messmer Soldiers. If you want a fun AOW stick, this is pretty good. Really unfotunate that this doesn't scale with arcane.

Its ash is buffed by godfrey icon, tested on stormveil troll
- Anonymous
One of the most broken weapons out there, that is not that hard to get
- Anonymous
Only good against bayle and the slogfest dragon thats before bayle

Maybe the anti dragon effect was the friend's we made along the way

Honestly, in my opinion, it's not very flashy, it's move set is kinda wonky but it feels super consistent. With a weapon art that can chunk through lines of enemies and does banger damage against bosses, it's maybe not as strong as some of the other war crime weapons they added in the DLC, but it's just a solid weapon.
Does anybody know if the Weapon Art's damage is increased by the Death Knight set?
- Anonymous
The fact they hand you this right before heading into an area entirely filled with dragons feels so good. Basically just said "Now go, KILL EM"
- Anonymous
did some light testing and doesn't seem to scale with Faith
- Anonymous
>"Let's make an anti-dragon great katana!"
>Gives all great katanas less range and speed than the ****ing Nagakiba
>The Ash of War doesn't even have the range to hit your opponent unless you're eating them out
>Almost no benefit against dragons
>"Alright, good work today folks!"
- Anonymous
Killed the Ancient Dragon Man at the same time he killed me - he stayed dead and I didn't get his drop. I'm gutted.
- Anonymous
The fact it's C/C str/dex at +10 really sells that it should have B in arcane.
- Anonymous
weapon art is so cool but the basic R1 are so weird. Why is the 2nd R1 an unbalanced poke? Feels weird to use it.
also not even a 10% damage buff to dragons or sm. Missed opportunity given how many dragons they decided to pester the DLC with
- Anonymous
-get Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana
-look inside
-no damage buff against dragons
- Anonymous
probably does extra damage to dragons and ancient dragons even when not using the skill, similar to other dragon-based weapons, but guessing don't have the numbers yet.
