This weapon looks like AI art, literally if you look at the details of it, it's very strange it looks exactly like what early Midjourney would have put out. The quality isn't inline with other stuff from the game, it almost looks like it has some AI jpg texture thrown onto it.

I've literally been using this weapon the whole dlc but the scabbard is so ugly 4 years ago I saw a woman get dragged away by 6 masked men and did nothing the scabbard seriously has got to go soon, it otherwise looks so cool and the aow is a beast I just need the scabbard to go away I can't take it ruining my fashion anymore

This weapon is great for those who fight dragons by hitting the legs, since it basically turns on the easy mode, removing the need to learn how to fight a dragon.

Seeing people using this weapon's skill to hit the legs of a dragon seriously hurt my sanity.
People, please, use it to hit the head.
The skill puts you on a good height, it launches a projectile (even if the weapon doesn't hit, the projectile will), it is highly spammable. Just aim at the head, thats it.

Because of the loophole of dragonwound damage not being an actual type of damage, by process of elimination, this weapon has one of the strongest pure physical damage projectiles in the game, completely ignoring resistances, basically an arial, chargeable version of vacuum slice, suitably buffable, but not to the point where it takes up every talisman slot. It's a good, well-rounded weapon, it's practically a quality of life feature when dealing with dragons, but it can actually carry you through most of the dlc.

Fun fact, contrary to popular belief, this isn't a dragon communion weapon, this is a dragon hunting weapon. Meaning it's built for gathering their hearts, not feasting on them.

If you're complaining that this doesn't have Arc scaling, this weapon is more closely related to the Gravel Stone Seal, as both are made of, you guessed it!, gravel stones. Gravel Stones are pieces of the dragon's skin, not pieces of their hearts. So it scales according to their skin, not according to their hearts and blood.
If you wanna continue complaining, start using Dragonwood grease on a bleed infused weapon instead. Or just duel-scale.

Don't have much to say about it. It just looks frickin epic, despite the scabbard, its red and gray scales, amazing skill and dragon-slayer vibe. One of my favorite weapons. It performs so well with a quality infusion. And most of all it makes me look forward to any dragon fight now, something I used to hate. 10/10

comparing the AR to moonveil it feels like the scaling is slightly undertuned, it only gets 800 ar with 65 split, while moonveil gets like 734, consideing moonveils speed of ash of war and the utility of having effectivly 2 ashes of ward in one and the addittional boosts to rellans cameo, i keep switching back to a moonveil build, despite absolutly loving this weapons ash of war for its hyper armour, and great katana jump attacks, i know seems futile comparing a dex int weapon to a str dex weapon but i was surprised that theis great sword didnt hit nearly 900 AR for some reason

though my ichigo cosplay characher is very much a happy bunny, now he can cosplay as a str dex build with sword of solitude and dragonhunter great katana for two phase invader encounters. currently using faith int black blade incantation and bucthering blade with vacuum slice and moonveil, but its not very optimised.

I don't really know why people complain about this not scaling with Arc, Gravel Stone/drakescale weapons have never actually been involved with Dragon Communion (i.e. Bolt of Gransax, Dragonscale Blade, Dragon Greatclaw, Icerind Hatchet) and I think that makes sense. The reason this thing is effective against dragons is solely because of the scales in the blade and the nature of those wielding it, which feels much more sensible and also interesting to me.

I wouldn't mind this not being Arc that much if the stat's distribution among DLC weapons wasn't so weird overall, flavor wise. We got an Arc gravity weapon, an Arc ghostflame weapon, an Arc scarlet rot weapon, an Arc finger sorcery staff, an Arc omen transformation, an Arc dragon CULT weapon... But this and Igon's Greatbow, the only dedicated Dragon Communion weapons in the entire game, don't get Arc.

Just here to say this weapon is amazing! If you ever thought dragons are so cool but the way their fights are made makes them a chore to kill, this weapon solves every problem about them. Maxed this weapon on my quality build, and tried with the first jagged peak dragon after dragon's pit. Man what a fight! Finally I don't have to be stuck seeing dragon feet instead I can see everything while shooting dragonslaying beams. F***ing epic weapon

used this to beat the ancient dragon sanseaxx or w/e, literally just went back and forth on torrent hitting it twice each time (if i was lucky) and ended the fight with a flashy blood beam from its AOW. took me hours at level 60, but its finally over.

I just want to highlight the fact the Dragon Hunter's Great Katana has the 9th highest BASE physical damage of all Somber weapons.

This IS the reason that big weapons (generally) have worse letters than small weapons. You're scaling up that base damage.

That's not too shabby. At +10 around 50/50 STR/DEX, its AR even compares well to most infusable colossal weapons.

Great Katanas also have a solid 2H moveset, allowing you to do its thrusting R1 off the back of most other attacks.

At 80/80 [damage stats], it may look piddly compared to Occult Giant Crusher, but, doesn't everything in life?

(btw Rakshasa's Great Katana is also a good DEX weapon. Superior AR at 20 STR / 80 DEX)

Awesome design, fun moveset, dragonwound slash works great even against non-dragon enemies. Useable on pure str and dex builds without going full quality. This weapon is one of my favs

This is my favorite weapon in the game. However, I cannot use it due to the huge sheathe clipping through the floor and my characters feet at all times.
Seriously, how did this make it through quality control. when standing the sheath clips 3 feet into the floor. did they not even test the weapon? for the love of god fromsoft, angle the sheath or just remove it.

the ash of war perfectly puts you at head height with the ancient dragons on flat ground so if youre close enough you can hit the head with both the projectile and the swing for a absurd amount of damage

Used this +10 against Bayle and beat him after 5 attempts, honestly was not a fan tbh. I didn't have Shard of Alexander because I did the DLC before Faruam Azula but did use Godfrey's Icon. The fight basically became Rykard, Yhorm, Storm King fight where I had to properly use the Ash of War to kill it because actually using the regular moveset during the boss fight is almost impossible. It's moveset is just too slow unfortunately to get more than 2 hits (if your lucky) I really wanted to like this weapon since I max upgraded it.

Really disappointed that the WA's projectile doesn't knock down human-sized enemies, I mean it's an energy wave from a giant-ass curved sword made to hunt gigantic dragons yet the most it does to humans is make them flinch as if someone threw a small rock at them.

If the Blade Of Culling, a f*cking DAGGER, can knock down enemies with its WA then there's no reason this shouldn't.

The skill does not seem to count as a jumping attack for Claw Talisman or Raptor's Black Feathers/Gravebird's Blackquill Armor. Checked both connecting with just the projectile and connecting with the projectile+sword.

I agree quality needs more love and this weapon is a total win for that.. but.. this is a Dragon Communion weapon that looks GOOD with the Drake Knight set, like.. AWESOME with it.. and yet.. you build for it, you can't get the most out of Dragon Communion in general.. its.. kinda disappointing for me as a Drake Warrior Fan who wants to wield this weapon while wielding Bayle's Flame Lightning. FANTASTIC weapon, just.. wish Dragon Communion Themed Weapons got something that actually SYNCED well with it. Even the new Hammer seems like its meant to be used with Dragon Cult more than Dragon Communion.

The only con about this weapon is the sheath clips through the floor. Fully upgraded and at 80STR/80DEX, it does the most damage of any great katana.
WA slaps, even on non-dragons. You can avoid ground attacks and some horizontal attacks in the air. Seems to do lots of poise damage. It lifts you in the air enough to headshot a lot of enemies, not just dragons. Highly recommend two-handing with the talisman.

ash of war does great damage, 50 dex 40 strength, shard of alexander, godfrey icon, and two-handed sword talisman bring it to 1.5k damage (3k with a few shadow blessings) on the projectile alone, while also ignoring staggers from most attcks. also feels sick af to headshot a dragon with it.

This thing desperately needs to scale off Arcane. A maxed Dragon Communion build (30 Faith, 60 Arcane) struggles to put enough points into DEX to make this viable. Currently my build is as follows (RL 150):

20 FOC
22 END
16 STR
30 DEX
11 INT
30 FAI
50 ARC

I had to pull 10 points from ARC and put them into DEX to see if the Katana would be usable but nope. Still better to run the base Great Katana with Occult. Sucks honestly, the DHGK fits my roleplay 120% but for some reason, a weapon wielded by an ancient partaker of dragon communion, doesn't scale with Arc...

For people that complain about it not having faith/arc scaling. It's not dragon-powered weapon. It's a dragon hunting weapon. Other weapons crafted from dragon, like dragonscale blade and dragon tooth, also have str/dex scaling.
