Rakshasa is a samurai humanoid boss in Elden Ring who wields a long katana and wears armor, except for his head. This boss can land attacks that cause heavy damage and can follow up with additional slashing attacks. To successfully defeat Rakshasa, you’ll need to time your attacks carefully. Recklessly rushing in can lead to instant death, as he can easily follow up his attacks with more strikes. Fortunately, his attacks are somewhat predictable.
When Rakshasa prepares to slash, he often backs up slightly before executing the attack. This gives you a brief moment to anticipate and dodge. Additionally, when he leaps into the air to perform a jumping slash, you can usually counter this move by attacking him mid-air. This tactic can interrupt his attack and give you an advantage.
During close-range combat, it’s crucial to retreat occasionally and adopt a defensive stance. Rakshasa can almost always counter with his own attacks unless you stagger him first. Keeping a balance between offense and defense is key. Make sure to land your hits when you see an opening, but be ready to dodge and retreat to avoid his counterattacks.
Watch his movements closely, anticipate his attacks, and strike when the moment is right. By maintaining a balance between aggression and defense, you can overcome this boss.

Rakshasa Attacks & Counters
Attack | Description | Counter |
Double Slash | Once you get closer to Rakshasa, he performs a double slash with his katana to damage you. | You can counter this by rolling to the left or right to evade. You can also counter this by rolling back and attacking him just before he slashes the 2nd time. |
Katana Thrust | Once you get closer to Rakshasa, he performs a katana thrust. | Evade this attack by rolling to either left or right. |
Heal | Rakshasa pauses and heals up when her health is low. | Can be disrupted by pressuring him with attacks when he pauses. |
Slash | Rakshasa charges at you and swings his katana. | Evade this attack by rolling to either left or right just before he hits you with the slash. |
Leaping Slash | Rakshasa jumps in the air and slams his katana on you. | This can be countered by attacking Rakshasa mid-air. this causes him to be staggered and cancels the attack. |

He's in fact pretty easy.
Bring parry shield, AND 100% shield (if you are not good at parry).
Guard all his first attack, keep some distance. (rolling and keep fleeing is hard because small room and his big range/fast move)
When he start that double slash and you are barely out of range, quickly swap to parry shield and see if he's gonna spamming second times, if so, easy parry.
It's very easy to parry that move, you have pretty of time to see that.
Even he only use once, he will have long enough post delay for you to swap and run again.

Parried her couple, we also traded some fun blows, used golden wave on her, and we tried ended each other with jump attacks simultaneously. That was a surreal experience. But I emerged victorious, my lightning axe AoW eventually hit her back, but not before she jumped and hit me earlier.
- Anonymous
Destroyed him with night comet on second try. I only lost the first time due to running out of stamina and getting backed into a corner.
- Anonymous
For melee: Parry the normal attacks and back up when the L2 chains come out. Dead 2nd try
- Anonymous
it spammed that double slash thing 5 times in a row on my very first try. im on ng 7 so it does half my health, and fills up half the bleed buildup bar
- Anonymous
id say he has about 18k health on ng 7, and 10k on ng. probably not right but it feels like it on both my playthroughs with different saves
- Anonymous
Fight Spam with Spam, just pop the deflect tear and spam guard counters.
- Anonymous
the only way to beat this a-hole is to parry him. pick any medium shield with parry and misericorde +25, equip all your critical attack buff talismans parry him in the right times and kill him in 3-4 attacks

whats with the line 'and wears armor, except for his head' in the strategy section? rakshasa is a woman according to her armor descriptions, and she is clearly wearing a helmet
- Anonymous
Has hyperarmor -> cannot be staggered like ever and is immune to madness (possibly every status effect?)... Just terrible miniboss
- Anonymous
thats great, i just beat this boss and the armor and weapon was show to have dropped on my screen and it is nowhere to be found in my inventory, doesnt even show in recent items.

Mfer has 4 moves in his arsenal, and all of them are busted beyond belief with hyperarmor and dmg. A fully charged R2 from Beast Claws or a Stone of Gurranq to the face don't even make him flinch. Literally unwinnable with any kind of low poise dmg weapon, he'll just outtrade you on input read and win the war of attrition every time even if he doesn't outright oneshot you.
FTH users, just spam Crucible: Horn. Sends him flying him by poising through HIS attacks, and he's so L2 brainrotten he won't ever try to wake up dodge, so you can stunlock him as long as you have the MP.
- Anonymous
He used that ash of war 6 times in a row. I got bored while waiting for the spam to be over that I decided to start counting.
- Anonymous
I have experienced the brainrot that is elden ring pvp without playing pvp thats crazy. Just stunlock this piece of garbage to oblivion
- Anonymous
got my ass handed to me a handful of times, switched to heavy giant crusher +25 and completely wiped the floor with her. would recommend bonk.
- Anonymous
Palm blast will knock her out of all of her attacks except the weapon art. She won't even try to avoid it.
Just smack her as she comes to you, and when she swings her arm back to begin the swing back step away while she flails about ineffectually. Maybe get some ranged hits in with spells or throwing pots.
- Anonymous
No hit her just now with a flamerge so I'm assuming my strategy should be helpful for anyone that is using a greatsword.
The key is to fight in and out at medium distance to bait one of two moves (jumping attack or the dual sweep move), get close and then punish with a 4 hit r1 combo after which you back of and repeat. Each hit with a greatsword interrupts her just like any other npc so you take no damage in return. One thing to note is when she starts doing the dual sweep move be close enough that she does it three times in a row after which you can safely go close when she's at the end of her animation. From what I see she does the attack at most thrice in a row so you're safe.
For talismans I recommend the twinsblade talisman to increase the damage of the last hit in the chain and a consecutive attack talisman (winged sword, millicent etc).

- Anonymous
Guard Counters also work wonders on him, so if you're patient and have any medium shield laying around he becomes a push over
- Anonymous
Well, now I know how to parry that ash. It's actually quite easy to learn the timing when that's all the AI does.
- Anonymous
I just kept chomping away with Dragon Maw, really trivialized the fight
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
this is literally the first boss of the whole game that made me change my weapon, could beat EVERY other bosses with reduvia only
- Anonymous
For faith casters, if you have Messmer's Orb, you can fight their spam with orb spam. The animation had me zipping around them with target lock and knocking them over with each cast.
- Anonymous
fromsoft is dedicated to ruining their reputation for being known for good boss design in just 1 dlc it seems
- Anonymous
I seriously hate this DLC's over reliance on tarnished boss fights. They all suck so far. Everything else so far has been great at least.
Not interesting, unique, cool, or anything else. Just a dude that is way too powerful.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
you can get him pretty good with parrying and i think the timing is not too difficult while he swings around
Greatsword + Giant Hunt works well, and also on other mausoleum enemies.

Stamp (Upward Cut) on a Zweihander is all you need to turn this fella into a joke
- Anonymous
Apparently his name is Indian for Beast, makes sense considering he's a pain in the ass.
- Anonymous
Collosal weapons basically stunlock this guy. Felt like fighting malenia's first phase again. He tries to do some annoying attack and you just slap him with two swords twice your size.

I tried a whole bunch of cheesy rot, bleed and madness builds but they all failed since this F***ER is immune to everything and have super poise. then I brought out my golems halberd and smashed her into the ground. I guess Str really does beat weebs.

- Anonymous
the ai for this guy is busted, just spams the same attack over and over no delay or recovery. either do a cheese poise break build or be in for one of froms worst coding experiences
- Anonymous
Why does this random nobody with a katana deal 2x as much damage as a huge dragon that fought placi? or Messmer, literal kid of a God, no we have katana weeb guy with infinite poise and stamina 2 shotting u gj fromsoft as always! I dont know how can u go from midir, gael, messmer, bayle to this random garbage with no thought process behind it bug okay!
- Anonymous
dryleaf arts palm blast spam is an easy win. none of their attacks can break the hyperarmor and they're not smart enough to space it like a player would be, so they just walk into it and get knocked on their ass.
- Anonymous
So are we gonna ignore that the lore implies that we just have to rip and tear until it is done?
Just me?
Alright.
- Anonymous
with Faith/Dex build i tried so hard to beat this infinite stamina heavy attack spammer... but found a trick to cheese this.
Just take Sacred Relic Sword, and pam Wave of Gold. He won't try to dodge it, and fell down on every hit. so you can beat him by turning the table and spamming one spell till he dies. he can never reach to you.
- Anonymous
I just put all stamina regen stuff on & spammed upward cut 25 times to get him.
I REALLY enjoyed this beautiful art of a fight
- Anonymous
Has low poise just after the 2nd swing on the flailing attack.
- Anonymous
i just spammed crouch r1 zweihander it legit locks her forever if u keep doing it free win
- Anonymous
you can use spiked palisade with cold infused shield crash, but the chainsaw glitch works better
- Anonymous
Sword of Ruin with the physique tear that enhances poise break destroys him. Your regular attack knock him out of most of his attacks except a few heavies you should dodge, and whenever he does his ash of war from the opposite zip code, he leaves himself wide open for Wave of Destruction to knock him on his ass, and for you to follow up with a heavy into 2 regular swings.
Only concern is sometimes when he's running for a regular swing, he can jump attack instead in which case he'll avoid your swing and hit you. Thankfully, he's not that great at following up if you put distance between him so you should only eat the one hit.
- Anonymous
Just spam Giant Hunt. The loser gets staggered permanently. Make sure to bring enough blue flasks. When From makes **** bosses you have to use **** methods to beat them.
- Anonymous
Spam knights lightning spear and watch this dude melt (get someone to tank for you cause he hits like TRUCK)
- Anonymous
Greatsword of Solitude AoW followup smacks this bastard hard and throws down. Very effective!
- Anonymous
After getting repeatedly destroyed on my blood loss setup, went old school with the Occult Great sword +25 lions claw (not savage as is trash at breaking stance). Turned 50 times of getting nad-smashed into breaking poise on every hit first round KO. Cool armor.
- Anonymous
Bloody Helice makes this easy, just L2 when he attacks and punish into a stagger.
- Anonymous
pro tip(nothing else worked for me): hide behind fingerprint shield and use vikes spear, has madness buildup and does good damage, can hide behind shield, and use ash of war if timing allows
- Anonymous
Lives in a world where poise and stamina don't exist. Hate playing so passively, and I'm by no means a parry god, but pretty easy once I embraced it. Medium shield with golden parry, moonveil. Just hang back and try to bait out running attacks as they're the easiest to time for a parry. Let them go wild on the ash of war, staying plenty far enough back. Just backpedaling to bait the running attack is enough spacing to not have to roll from the jump attacks. If you have to heal, just wait for AoW to start, run back and take a sip or two.
- Anonymous
This guy sucks. I killed him solo with parries but it took some practice. Now I farm rune arcs off him spamming Bolt of Gransax AoW in random summons. Fully charged is a knockdown every hit
- Anonymous
his armor reminds me of alonne knights from ds2 i hope theres a sir alonne boss fight in the dlc would be a wasted opportunity to not make another samurai fight after adding great katanas
- Anonymous
Giants hunt spam her to death. She deserves it. Put her in the fking dirt.
- Anonymous
Guard Counter with Ruins Greatsword and use it's skill when you need to heal or lower bloodloss buildup
Dragoncrest Greatshield, Curved Sword Talisman, Viridian Amber Medallion, Turtle Talisman

Sacred Relic Sword: Golden Wave, 5 or more upgraded cerulean flasks. Constant knockdown, never get damaged.
- Anonymous
Either is AI is broken, or they based him off of L2 spammers.
- Anonymous
Used the Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword's ash of war. I didn't get to see her do an attack once.
- Anonymous
All of this guy's attacks, including the R1, regular and charged R2 and L2 are parryable. Use a buckler shield with the Carian Retaliation AOW and its manageable. Better if you crit hit with the misericorde dagger. Don't try to parry his jump attacks
- Anonymous
I just managed to beat her and the fight was weird.
The attacks of the great katana's Overhead Stance barely flinched her. On the other hand, the light attacks regularly made her flinch when she wasn't doing and attack. I could get the complete combo in without her fighting back in 9 out of 10 times.

FS broke the code. High poise + inf stamina = hard boss. This isn't even fun suckers. Nearly all DLC bosses has same thing
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
they bring back poise just to make their npc's ignore the mechanic completely, so dumb.
- Anonymous
Spam the Ash of War "Giant Hunt". Basically Stun locks him. Just use a strong weapon. I used Quility Godskin Stitcher +24 with a Dex build.
- Anonymous
You can't interrupt his "weapon art" move where he stamps and then starts swinging side to side. But every other attack can be interrupted (I was using a great hammer) with a simple r1. General strat I used was rush (sprint or jump) attack r1 and then spam r1 until I had enough stamina for two backrolls away, let stamina recover and repeat. If you mess up timing he might get the initial stamp off... but otherwise it's pretty easy with this approach.
- Anonymous
Godslayer GS was enough to maker her flinch, from there it was figuring out her timings and when I could hit her. Weapon art was too slow, so stuck to normal attacks. Even at 60 Vigor, kept getting two- and three-shot.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Easily beaten with Moonveil Katana. Once he gets to about 30%health he starts to drink potion and Moonveil R2 knocks him down and he gets back up to drink potion. Rinse and repeat until he dies.

71 poise, 48% slash def, Rellana's Twin Blade fire combo does not stagger after 4 combos in a row. I'm not sure what this guy wants to be staggered since he almost never gets interrupted or I've never poise broken him
- Anonymous
Get the biggest shield you can, boost stamina, backstap the f*cker
- Anonymous
60 vit, high mitigation, still 2 shot, basically feels like he has endless stam, and infinite poise. Only NPC so far I haven't been able to poise break using Rellana's Twin Blades flame combo

Backhand blade works really well once you get the timing.
You want to stay just inside of charged r2 range, left foot on his center line and bait his swing
Roll at a 45º angle back right and charge the r2, follow up with L2, rinse and repeat.
You can time the charged r2 against her l2 and hit cleanly if you gauge the distance and charge in a window between the first and 2nd attacks.
If you hit L2 in the star t up frames of her l2 you're probably safe provided you go the right direction, from the right distance. it will interrupt.
There's definitely a higher skill floor for this method, you're gonna need to be proficient at reading frames, but the strategy is very simple
