Magma Wyrm Makar is a Great Enemy Boss in Elden Ring. Makar was once human, but was transformed into a lesser dragon for the sin of Dragon Communion and now guards the Ruin-Strewn Precipice in Liurnia of the Lakes. This is an optional boss as players don't have to defeat it to advance in Elden Ring.
See also Magma Wyrm and Great Wyrm Theodorix.
It's said these land-bound dragons were once humans heroes who partook in dragon communion, a grave transgression for which they were cursed to crawl the earth upon their bellies, shadows of their former selves.

Negations (or Absorptions)
The negation numbers are the % of your damage that gets blocked. For example, if a negation is 60, 40% of that damage by that type will go through and 60% will be negated. Bigger number = less damage. A negation of 100 means no damage goes through, and a negation of -100 mean the enemy takes 2x damage from that source. 0 means damage goes pretty much as is.
Resistances
Poison: 534 / 824 / 1281
Scarlet Rot: 534 / 824 / 1281
Hemorrhage: 534 / 824 / 1281
Frostbite: 1150 / 1607
The resistance numbers are the buildup amount to trigger it. For example, if a resistance is 100 you must deal 100 points of the given buildup to trigger it. Note that these go down over time, and increase each time the effect procs. The values after the "/"s indicate the increased resistances after each successive proc.

Additional Fight Strategy
Use the large center pillar as a barrier. Lead Makar to it, then head to the opposite side. As long as you stay close to the pillar, it'll continue to execute its attacks or perhaps get stuck in a walking animation while the pillar will act as a shield. Then you can freely used ranged attacks to get in damage.

As someone below said, the summons did not attack this magma wyrm. Millicent and Tragoth just stood around. My mimic tear spirit ash went right after it thankfully, but the other two are complete wastes and bugged.
- Anonymous
Just now he dropped only 18k runes (and the heart and sword). For reference I played offline with 2 NPCs
- Anonymous
Tried all three of the available summons and they didn't attack him. Boggart did a few times maybe but most of the time they just followed me around doing nothing. Switched tactics and beat him just fine, but is this a common issue? These three NPCs just walk in with me and say "Uh, lava? Dragon? No thanks. You're on your own."

His strolling in the park technique is very annoying when fighting him melee.

I'm so tired of all these crappy and lazy bosses. Big letdown.

I'm primarily Faith, so I used Luthel and Bestial Sling. Hugging his belly makes him miss most attacks.
- Anonymous
Well I killed all 3 NPC summons before I even took a step into the Ruin-Strip Precipace lol
you dont need to actually buy the prawns to summon blackguard for this fight

Pretty obnoxious that his forward sword slam attack aoe damage hurts you when you're BEHIND HIM
- Anonymous
Wow going from dieing alone repeatedly to valiant gargoyles to getting to 1 shot this boss with a whole horde of npc summons feels sooooooooooo nice
- Anonymous
Rock sing this guy on the head and he'll go down in a minute
- Anonymous
I wish you could have all 3 summons so you can team him 5 on 1 with a spirit ash, that would be funny I think
- Anonymous
One of the only magma wyrms fights thats actually good, mainly because he's not stuck in an arena thats clearly too tiny for him, where its nigh impossible to avoid his attacks.
- Anonymous
I fougth him with both summons, Targoth and the prisioner type dude and it gave me only 18000 runes

Guide how to cheese like almost any boss in the first half of the game:
- Rotten Breath

Imma summon the whole gang to fight this guy, idc. Tragoth, Boggart, Millicent and my trusted Fanged Imps. It's gonna be a beatdown. Last playthrough I fought him solo, so now it's time to do the opposite
- Anonymous
How to easily beat this dude without summons:
I beat this dude easily with rotten breath, but really anything that can inflict rot will probably work.
If you inflict him with scarlet rot, bait him around the giant pillar until it wears off.
Rinse and repeat and it’s easy to beat him without taking damage!

Man i want my character to be like this guy! Magma wyrm form in DLC please!

I feel like - if you can do everything you need to do to get Millicent to this point, do you even need Millicent for this boss? Some of the things in Caelid are way scarier.
- Anonymous
IMO this boss is much easier if you DON'T use the NPC summons. Having Boggart and the Poise Chad help you sounds nice at first, but the damage they're dealing doesn't nearly offset the additional health Makar gets when you summon NPCs. They also don't seem to make any effort to get out of the bosses AoE, so they die rather quickly. If you walk in solo, the boss has significantly less health.
For sorcery builds, Rock Sling works extremely well (as it does against all other dragons). For melee builds, just hugging his belly will make him miss all of his fire attacks.

You can activate the grace point if you walk towards the wall next to it, it's just offset.
You do not need to buy prawn from Boggart, I was able to summon him without having bought any before.

Fought the one on Mt.Gelmir. It delayed its overhead slam for 10 seconds. Dude was legitimately just standing there.

This fight is honestly much easier without summons. The first time I tried this I brought two NPC summons just for the lulz and his health bar was absolutely silly, by the time both of them + Lhutel were all dead he still had 75% hp.
Came back and tried it again solo using a winged scythe I accidentally didn't have the Dex to wield properly, so he still felt like he had a big health bar the bleed procs helped take him down, probably pretty easy if I had had a weapon I could properly wield.
just like the plain magma wyrm fight you just gotta be patient to beat this guy. The Giant pillar in the middle is helpful for hiding from some of his biggest attacks, I found I could somewhat reliably trigger his forward lava breath attack by dancing around in front of his face in front of the pillar, when he started the animation I'd start sprinting around the pillar, and I would generally arrive right at his head just as the counter window opened up. He hits a phase 2 at like 30% hp where he starts standing on his hind legs more frequently, just stay on the move and punish when you get a chance.

Those dealing with the Grace Point being bugged, it's like this here and at a few other locations. Castle Morne boss room comes to mind as one.
Simply quit out, and log in. Fixes it right away.

Map link is broken, redirects to an abandoned coffin in the Altus Plateau instead of anywhere in Liurnia as described.

I just stumbled to this boss fight when i fisrst set foot at Liucaria....After defeating it,there is a grace nearby it but for some reason i cant touch it...Is there something im missing??

With the amount of NPC's you can summon in this fight the drake should of been much stronger then just a mere field boss.
- Anonymous
So cool how the scalesword description says that the wyrms were once humans who worshipped the dragons too hard and were cursed to slither on their bellies in a weak imitation of their false idols. So metal

Would've loved to summon Milicent or Blackguard for this fight, IF ONLY THEIR ****ING SUMMON SIGNS WOULD SHOW UP.
And yes, I've completed the prerequisites.
- Anonymous
Can't get a single NPC (milicent, Tragoth, Blackguard) to spawn for this fight. I talked to everyone and did the stuff that was supposed to make them appear (talk to Milicent at Gowry's shack, buy Blackguard's prawns etc.) but the summon signs still dont show. And yes I have activated the summoning stake. :(
- Anonymous
For some reason I cannot summon a single NPC for the Magma Wyrm fight. Not Milicent, Tragor or Blackguard. I have talked to all of them and progressed quests by following the wiki, but not a single summon sign show up for me in front of the fog wall.
Anyone know what could be the issue?
- Anonymous
Not hard. Just very obnoxious if it decides to run around all over the place. If RNG isn’t on your side, grab a box and poison arrows. If it’s gonna waste your time, might as well punish it.
- Anonymous
The first phase is basicaly like the other magma wyrm, I got the ash of war ice spear and it was devastating. I would do 500+ damage if I hit the head. Other option like the peble is also viable (is how I beat the other wyrm) but it takes too long
- Anonymous
i got stuck on his leg when he spin around, so did i xD this was 1 of the easiest boss experiences, 0 hit taken :D

one of the two bosses that didn't give me an achievement despite beating them. ****'s bugged.

Easy boss just take your time and be careful when he spew lava it cover his whole body except his tail.
- Anonymous
The flame of frenzy and about 2 fully charged heavies from a big weapon will bring it down for a crit, easy peezy
- Anonymous
Not so bad compared to the cramped version in Selia but why does this one dash around so dang much. Cut back to decaf or something bro.
- Anonymous
The Maga Wyrm Gracpoint wouldn't let me activate it after i beat him but after i fast traveled back to the previous gracepoint it started working.
- Anonymous
Why is his AoE slam attack so hard to dodge? I swear to god I'm able to dodge every his attack, but for some reason I always get hit and one shot on this one.
- Anonymous
Be wary of using too many NPC summons. Made my life much more difficult by trying to use every available summon, but this will increase the boss health accordingly. This fight was easier for me WITHOUT summons
- Anonymous
It seems like if the requirements for the Blackguard and Millicent are met - Blackguard takes priority so you can either summon Targoth and Blackguard or Targoth and Millicent but not all three.
- Anonymous
If you´re a wizard and need to kill him fast do this: Get the slingsot rock spell in caelid and then enjoy throwing rocks to this big boi.

I know I'm probably under-levelled for this fight, so I thought I'd give it a go with the Tragoth and Blaggard NPC summons and they don't seem to want to fight...?? Unlike the spirit ash summons and any NPC summon in other fights, these two just seem to stand behind me and ignore the boss unless they actually get cornered, and even then they'll only fight until the boss changes targets. Anyone else seen this?
I stood behind the central pillar to try setting up a pincer attack, and they just stood there with me. Summoned a spirit and it immediately ran off to the boss. I ran out to do my pincer attack and they still just hung back???
- Anonymous
Melee was tough, i couldn't stagger enough with hammer, so i used Bloodhound and just stayed close to the legs and tried to dps as much as possible. once it got to 2nd phase it was a little bit easier, barely made it out alive.
- Anonymous
Here’s a tip for anyone who is struggling with this boss and can use dragon spells, use rotting breath. It will absolutely melt his healthbar.
- Anonymous
FYI his HP is NOT 2200. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but it appears closer to 7000

Millicent is summonable in front of the boss after she leaves Gowry's shack.

Millicent also appears as a summon after stabbing her with the needle and exhausting dialogue at the shack

Lol, I'm from Russia and here Makar is name here. For example, my Best friend is named so. I've been trolling him being a magma wyrm for a whole evening :]]]

You can also summon millicent here, advance her quest up to where she moves from Gowrys shack before you come here

I am able to summin Millicent. I have given her the Gold Needle and talked to her, but haven't given her the Prothesis yet.

One thing I used for decent effectiveness is the amazing mechanic we love to call *lightining*. Seemed pretty good and bumped my damage up quite a bit with the electrify miracle.
best bet to beat this bastard at low level (the only time this boss isn't a pushover) would be to cheese with spells and arrows, or equip a good stagger weapon and pray that it doesn't just run across the arena over and over, charged heavy it into oblivion wherever you can
- Anonymous
Hoarfrost stomp did some real damage to this guy. But I have to say, critical hits... aren't. Not here. So don't bother staggering him unless you have a very strong Critical Hit build. He appears vulnerable to Bleed, but I can't say for certain. And I don't know if poison works either. He drops a dragon heart, but dragon grease doesn't seem to give you any bonus damage against him?
All in all, a very tough and somewhat cheap boss-- too many one-hit-kill attacks from him.
- Anonymous
Got him on the first try, without even taking a single hit. Summoned Marionette soldiers and aced him with Loretta’s Greatbow. He staggered with just a bit of health left so I finished him with a poke in the eye.
- Anonymous
Thought he was gonna go get his stick violin and play a nice tune
- Anonymous
You can jump to avoid damage from the overly large shock waves he creates when slamming his weapon on the ground
- Anonymous
only boss I've first tried in the entire game. 34 faith and 32 strength knight build, fire of frenzy incantation and bloodhound's fang +7 destroyed him, mimic tear summon is almost like cheating at this point
If you're playing with sorceries the best strategy for any normal dragon, and wyrm isn't to use Pebble and get under it's legs. You want to be casting rock sling directly at it's head to break it's stance. For normal dragons, not the elder varieties, it's best to stay under it's head and neck area to do this. For Wyrms and Elder dragon variants you have to create distance and wait for an opening. Even if you aren't using a physical weapon in addition to casting breaking your enemy's stance gives you time to cast at least one possible two heavy hitting spells and or replenish health and FP.

Mad Pumpkinhead spirit ash plus rock sling sorcery makes this fight ez pz. Didn't even need a summon.

When Millicent doesnt have her Prosthesis but is already healed she can be summoned. Also Great Horned Tragoth can be summoned.

- He drops 24K runes not 18k in NG
- He can be poise broken and critical attacked

The dragon ability, rotten breath, used around the edges of the pillar was VERY effective.
Faith paladin build with like 25 faith.

Meteorite staff (rock sling) plus hammer cooperator summon and skeletal bandit made this easy as hell Only at 21 intelligence as well.

Not a single Wind Waker reference in this comment section? Shameful.
If this is a shadow of his former self, then tf were humans like back in Makar’s day
