Lamenter Fight Strategy
The Best Tips for Lamenter:
- Use the ?? Ash Summons
- Use the ?? Spell
- Bring ?? Item
Lamenter has a unique one-shot kill debuff mechanic that must be managed throughout the fight. During the clone phase, when Lamenter unsummons the clones at the end of each phase, you will gain a stack of a debuff for every clone that was still alive at the end of the phase. The number of stacks you have is displayed as a ring around your character. If the number of stacks reaches 7(?) during the fight, you instantly die. The stacks do not expire. It is therefore important to kill as many clones as possible during the clone phase rather than focusing on the real Lamenter.
Melee Users
Lamenter is a small but agile boss that relies heavily on its speed and the use of clones to prolong the fight. As soon as you enter the boss area, the best strategy is to attack immediately to gain the upper hand. Lamenter counters your assaults with quick punches, making it essential to stay aggressive yet cautious. When overwhelmed, Lamenter vanishes briefly and summons up to seven clones of itself, complicating the battle.
To manage this phase, systematically attack the clones one at a time until you locate the real Lamenter. The clones can be dealth with quickly, but exercise caution as the distant clones will launch slow-moving dark projectiles at you. These projectiles, while not fast, can catch you off guard if you’re not vigilant.
Once you identify and attack the real Lamenter, focus on overwhelming it with continuous strikes. Breaking its poise through relentless aggression will give you ample opportunities to deplete its health. By maintaining pressure and carefully navigating the clone phase, you can effectively whittle down Lamenter's health and secure victory in this challenging boss fight.

The incantation Black Blade (from maliketh) makes this fight really easy! The debuff stays on him when the clones appear, which makes him easy to spot, and it also seems to damage the clones even though it’s not cast on them.
- Anonymous
Remember that Sentry's Torch can reveal invisible Black Knife Assassins? Well this guy just built different and disappears from the space for a couple of secons
- Anonymous
The wiki is wrong, go for the real lamenter, dealing enough damage kills the other clones so you dont have to TRY kill every clone.
- Anonymous
Yeah so, just to make aware, the way that is said to access the gaol is completely wrong. If you head in the direction of Artist's shack from the Charo's Hidden Grave site of grace, you'll find it. Not sure why it says to just fall down some rocks from the shack itself, there are no platforms to fall onto that take you all the way down

Greyroll roar is highly effective for this boss, same for the sacred sword.

Big 'Witches of Hemwick' PTSD.
Anyways, using spirit ash with a group of NPCs and the Sacred Relic Sword's skill was how I killed him. Radahn Soldiers hardly took a scratch, but I imagine Greatshield Soldiers or Skeletons work even better

Rellana's twinblades fire attack obliterates this thing, fun boss, but bring an AoE/spinning attack. Clones are easy to kill, it was a fun boss

Worst boss of the DLC (so far)
After 4 attempts i have absolutely zero clue how his insta kill curse even works.
I just summoned a half upgraded Latenna, spammed golden land, and stuclocked the giggly little **** for the whole fight.
- Anonymous
Cheese tactic: call your bois (any Spirit Ash with 4-5 minions) and watch them massacre the Lamenter.
If pushed well in a corner the Lamenter gets no chance to call his clones. The show 'Lamenter vs. 5 Mausoleum Knights' really deserved popcorn.
- Anonymous
FWIW, the Ash of War Gravitas worked well for me, although it needed to be triggered a couple of times.
- Anonymous
Okay it seems that other people have picked up on this, but to be precise, the boss gets bloodied as you wail on it, and the clones do not inherit that bloodiness when spawning
- Anonymous
Quite genious to have a boss fight with clones where you lie if you focus on the real one.
- Anonymous
I can't verify with 100% accuracy, but when I used the prattling pate 'Lamentation' in the boss arena, I didn't notice that I got any of stacks of those install-kill de buffs. I definitely got hit by attacks that should have applied it. Might be worth a shot for anyone struggling with the fight.
- Anonymous
Had the potential to be fun, however the insta-kill mechanic COMPLETELY ruins any good that could have come from this boss. Unlike Deathblight, Petrification, Curse or Terror it isn't telegraphed at all and feels like an EXTREMELY cheap gatcha mechanic to make an easy fight hard for the wrong reasons.
- Anonymous
If you dont kill the clones he gives you some sortiert if mask on you that will at some point insta kill you
- Anonymous
at this point "cool idea with a terrible execution" is a running theme. The real Lamenter is barely distinguishable from all the clones, if you don't immediately spot it you'll get swarmed and staggered to death.
really neat idea though
- Anonymous
Sacred relic sword makes easy work of the clones and singles out the main dude so you can wail on him
- Anonymous
Occasionally I would be wailing on the boss during the clone phase, and for some reason all of the clones will just die simultaneously. Was using Bloodhound Fang, so no AOE. Perhaps a bug, or just damaging the boss enough despaens the clones?
- Anonymous
FYI The real Lamenter is much more red compared to the clones
- Anonymous
do enough damage to the real one and the fake ones all die and the phase ends - no debuff counter for this wipe mech
- Anonymous
You can potentially stunlock him with a fast weapon with high poise damage like the dryleaf arts.
I stunlocked him down to 75% by endlessly punching him. Latenna also helped massively as she forced him to roll spam. If your stamina/damage can take it, you can absolutely destroy this guy before seeing his gimmick clone phase.
- Anonymous
Hmm, room full of enemies and you dont know which one is the real deal? It would be a shame if someone were to cast Wave of gold and kill all the clones at once.
- Anonymous
So if the clones have 1 hit point wouldn't night maidens mist do enough

Cool boss imo, not spectacular by any means but a creative fight nontheless

It doesn't seem to be affected by poisen from what I can tell.

how do i get to the boss, i cant even find the artists shack?
- Anonymous
This boss also has some kind of instant kill that requires accumulating 6 stacks. No idea how it works because on the try that I beat the boss I didn't accumulate any, I think attacking constantly either cures them or stops the cause from triggering. Would love to know more if anyone can figure out how this terrible thing operates

To the dude saying Malikeths Blackblade is the play, it absolutely is. Look for the de-buffed Lamenter and spam the ash of war. Most of the clones will run into it and the main one eats big damage. Bullshit boss to be honest
- Anonymous
Summoned mimic, got his butt against the wall and stunlocked him to death. Very squishy...he killed me once because i wasnt sure.
- Anonymous
From what I've seen, the boss can be easily identified both by them being the only one who looks bloodied and that their projectiles are comparativly larger than the clones.

- Anonymous
Cant tell if the insta kill is from getting hit by too many projectiles or letting clones despawn
What if you said ehheww heheh eeeughh but then I said NIHIL
- Anonymous
Step 1: get Maliketh Greatsword and hit him with the ash of war
Step 2: He now gets debuffed and different from all the other clones lmao ez pez
- Anonymous
It’s not the projectiles he shoots at you that add the insta death, it’s the amount of his clones that are left when laughing that’ll add the insta kill
- Anonymous
sorry my bad english but if Lamenter has clone phase kill the clones as soon as possible if you dont you will be facing death. More clone = more head
- Anonymous
For anyone struggling with this fight... The buildup for the insta-kill seems to be the number of clones left alive at the end of each round. You either to clear as many as possible before they disappear, so you either need some really good AOE, or numbers. When I finally won this fight, I summoned the mausoleum soldiers. You get 5 of them, and it helps in 2 ways. First, if you get him against a wall, you can all wail on him so fast that he doesn't get a chance to call his clones as often. I got him down to half health before he was able to call the first time. And when he does manage to call them, you have more fighters on your side to help. Get in the center of the room while you wait for the clones, so that when they appear, your ash soldiers can spread out and help you deal with as many as possible.

Insta death has no bar but as it builds up you have rocks float around your head. Real lamented has a noticably bigger dark projectile than the others
- Anonymous
I was using Radahn's greatswords and this fight was so pathetically easy I didn't even know it could instakill you.
- Anonymous
This fight was made for sacred relic sword. Everytime he summons the clones if you fail to kill them quickly they will put a lamented head around your own head. After they've put like 6 or so heads on you, you're basically dead.
- Anonymous
Sacred relic sword +10 is your best friend here plus your mimic to even the odds
- Anonymous
Has an insta death proc if you get hit by too many of the clone projectiles
- Anonymous
what a dogshit designed boss. the more i play the dlc the less i like it. the fights arent hard in a fun way. they are hard bc you get SPAMMED with 50 enemys that spam projectiles that keep staggering you.
- Anonymous
Too many comments not talking about the elephant in the room: the Lamenting insta-kill. I swapped out of my int/fth build to try Dryleaf and can no longer AoE or one shot anything. Looks like I’m gonna be forced to come back to this boss
- Anonymous
Pretty easy boss. You don't need to use AOE or look for bloodstains, the real one has different AI to the rest. His clones with charge you or spam attacks. The real one can attack, but also strafes around/rp walks. Just back off and look for the one that is strafing. Once you do a certain amount of damage to him, his clones disappear.
- Anonymous
“Gaol Mike? What was the very very worst thing about gaol?”
“The worst thing about gaol…was the Lamenters!”
- Anonymous
Sacred Relic Sword!!! Using skill once or twice gets rid of all clones. Makes fight super easy.
- Anonymous
If you're having trouble identifying the real one : it's the only one with bloodstains once you hit him enough. Just hit him a lot with a fast weapon (even an unupgraded one) and he'll be fully red by the time the clone attack starts. It's even easier since he has no poise.
- Anonymous
Best strat I’ve found is just ignoring the clones. The real one can be found by trial and error or I believe it will get bloodied throughout the fight
Sacred Relic Sword: Waves of Gold from the entrance should wipe most if not all of the clones.
Use that Albinauric Genocider experience!
- Anonymous
Use relic swords wave of gold to take out all the clones also lamenter takes no damage so I think he is immune to holy
- Anonymous
Use anything that hits enemies around you. I used bloodboon ritual and it worked pretty well. It will not only kill the clones but it will also make it easier to find the real lamenter
- Anonymous
I solo'd this boss. MMO tactics apply here. Run and pull all the clones quickly. Then when they are bunched up do a AOE attack and kill them. I was melee so I used RoB since it hits at a good range. Don't be scared to take a hit because the boss is weak. Play aggressive.
- Anonymous
I recommend using the Ground Slam ash of war if you are playing a melee build. I found having some form of area of effect damage necessary to consistently kill all the adds before they cursed me. Bring a few blue flasks to recover FP if you have low Mind, you can drink them while the adds spawn.
- Anonymous
Use Starscourge Greatsword +10 L2 move during clone phase, works really well
- Anonymous
Make your life easier and use something with an AoE that deals a lot of damage. Boss is poorly designed garbage. The more I play this DLC the less I’m enjoying it…
- Anonymous
bro SUCH an interesting boss fight. thank you to the comments i would NEVER have figured out the association between the clones and the floating heads. im too stupid but it wouldve been nice to figure it out on my own. but i thought it was a new blight of sorts. anyway. very fun, had to use my mimic for this to cull the clones quickly lmao. DLC is insane.
- Anonymous
NG+3 and the clones take three hits to kill. Nearly impossible since the rebuffs keep stacking. Pure gimmick cancer, no one at fromsoftware thought to try this on NG+ it seems
- Anonymous
I had a lot of trouble with this fight since I mostly used a greatspear and it took 3 hits to kill a clone. The best way to handle it is to focus the real one w/ something fast to stunlock him. After the first clones are summoned, you should be able to spot the real one via the bloodstains he has on him from your earlier attacks. If you focus him down enough, all of the clones vanish. Just rinse and repeat and it will work out. Might take a few times based on RNG from dealing with avoiding clone attacks, but this is the best I've got.
- Anonymous
Yeah, this is missing a lot. Leaving clones alive will build up stacks of the floating heads, six is a guaranteed death. You can either kill all/most of the clones to not build up as many stacks (this is next to impossible because no, they don't always die in one hit), OR if you can find the real one quickly, dealing enough damage to him will kill all the clones instantaneously and give you zero stacks.
- Anonymous
Holy damage works well. Use Sacred Relic Sword if you have it and wipe out the clones with ease then focus the actual boss.
- Anonymous
The real one stands out slightly due to it having a redder waistcloth than the others. If you do enough damage to him the clones will die too. Hopefully this helps.

- Anonymous
I am pretty sure that if you deal enough damage to the real person, all of the other clones die and the lamenting insta kill attack is canceled. If you apply some kind of status effect to the main enemy like frost damage, it will linger on to the cloning phase and you will instantly know who is the original.
- Anonymous
if you don't kill the clones quick enough they build lamenting stacks on you when they all start crying represented by the little floating heads around you, at 6 (?) stacks you will be forced to start crying and die instantly.
- Anonymous
for anyone wondering why they're suddenly getting oneshot: the clone phase has a timer, if you don't kill all the clones by the time the timer is up, you get x stacks of a debuff where x is the number of clones alive when the timer ran out (visable as faces surrounding your character). if you reach 6 stacks, you die. if you kill all the clones, the boss is temporarily staggered for a big damage window.

Instakill moves always feel a bit cheap.
As others have said, you can just pound the tar out of him by yourself or with a summon so he never gets the chance to lament.
