Lamenting Visage is a Torch in Elden Ring. It is found in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The Lamenting Visage scales primarily with Strength and is a good Weapon for sneaking in the Abyssal Woods or from the basilisk eyes in Scorpion River Catacombs.
A stone lantern carved to resemble a lamenting human head, the eyes vacantly beaming out light. Can be raised up when equipped in the left hand, illuminating more of the surrounding area.
The unusual expression somehow imparts a sense of contentment. The languid ease of one who needs not sight.
Where to Find Lamenting Visage in Elden Ring
The Lamenting Visage weapon can be found at the following location:
- Inside a room on the lower level of the Lamenter's Gaol, hidden behind an illusory wall. In the area you fall through the floor, go up the stairs and into the first doorway. Roll into the end of the passageway and use the Gaol Lower Level Key to open the door. [See Shadow of the Erdtree Map] [Video Link]
Elden Ring Lamenting Visage Notes & Tips
- Weapon Skill: Blindfold of Happiness. Makes the user harder to detect.
- This torch cannot be infused with No Skill
- Can't be buffed by Magic or Consumables.
- Lamenting Visage can be upgraded by using Somber Smithing Stones.
- Scales with Strength and deals only physical damage when used as a melee weapon.
- At 80 Strength, the Lamenting Visage has 444 AR while one-handing and 478 AR while two-handing.
- When raised, Lamenting Visage also acts as a shield that blocks attacks against it, which also allows one to use Guard Counter (main hand weapon strong attack upon successful block). Its poor defensive stats however only make this useful in emergencies.
- Because the weapon art makes it harder for enemies to detect the player, the item is helpful for sneaking through the Abyssal Woods.

i would have used nothing else if this thing suddenly came to life and said "brother? get up, brother!" and "so that's it, then?" every time i died

You use weapons to kill tarnished, I use a severed head. We are not the same.

pair this with family heads for a "I really love heads" build

Sick of these item descriptions soft censoring subjects. Just like Melania’s “greaves”. They are prosthetic legs. And this isn’t made of stone, it’s a decapitated head!

This trumps the prattling pate for taunting in so many ways, 100% worth the weapon slot just to dance on people.

This ash of war needs a buff to its duration. It should last 45sec to be on par with assassins bambit so its not completely out classed by the other invisibility options in the game.

skill should be buffed by lamenter transformation... but take this, lamenter mask, unseen form, assassin's approach - all the sneaky. get lamenting pate. invade host. sneak up on host. UAHOOHOO. Severed finger.

Charged r2 has good stance damage for criticals. I practiced on the big guys at the underground roadside bonfire/grace. Two charged r2 or 3 jump r2 breaks stance.

478 damage while two-handed at 80 Strength. Somehow sorta viable on a Strength build, I'm impressed.

FInally a Mimir Companion for my frenzied Kratos build. Evil Mimir be like: "No ones behind your idio-"

Between this and the Smithscript Axe, I have inadvertently created the Kratos build

So it's a torch then. Picked this up but couldn't for the life of me find it because I thought it was a talisman, helmet or spell tool.

I haven't attempted but I know the Darkness incantation can prevent lock on in pvp, so this could be potentially useful against casters?

Very cool lantern but the skill seems useless when Assassin's Gambit costs half as much fp, lasts twice longer, and also masks your footsteps. (I know it also costs health but the amount is so small compared to the effect it gives you)

I had a mini heart attack when I picked this up, because I thought they added Tomb of the Giants 2.0 in the DLC. Get out of here Miyazaki with this wannabe Skull Lantern bs

Might be useful. I'm the type who never wants to be without a good shield so I never got around to ever using the torches.

I swear the weapons they added in this dlc is perfect for a Kratos build, this easily can be mimir but I wish you could it to the side like a lantern.

This item is life saver in Scorpion River Catacombs with those floating Basilisk eyes.
Its also good to use against the Undying Lanterns in Abyssal Woods, as in to hide yourself and sneak.
And not to mention super bright as a light source. Must have in your inventory.
Unique Skill: Blindfold of Happiness
"...temporarily making the user of this skill harder to see..." lasts 15 sec.

hopefully we get pinwheel back next ive been looking for a real challenge...

Seems to be the best of the "torches" for lighting an area. Thing is super bright.

This seems like it would go good with the lamenter transformation in pvp to mess with people

Moveset identical to small and medium shields. Be aware that this means it cannot riposte or backstab.

fails to mention its behind an illusory wall, was starting to think the info was wrong.
