Onyx Lord's Greatsword is a Curved Greatsword in Elden Ring. The Onyx Lord's Greatsword scales primarily with Intelligence and Strength, with minor scaling in Dexterity. This Weapon sports a unique Magic Skill that can manipulate gravity and deal damage while allowing the user to create some distance from nearby enemies.

Greatsword forged from golden-hued meteoric ore.
The blade conceals gravity-manipulating magic.

A weapon unique to the Onyx Lords,
a race of ancients with skin of stone who were said to have risen to life when a meteor struck long ago.

Level pure int if you wanna spam the WA. If you want to use it as a Radahn Style Beat Stick, then Quality Str/Int build instead. I'd argue either one is viable, as the WA is highly spammable, and can catch PVP opponents off guard and still allows you to break poise with dual Greatsword Jump attacks on pure int.

      • Some compare it to Darkmoon GS on pure Int build. Dont. This here is not a pure Int weapon, it's a fine piece of Str/Int beatstick. If you are pure Int, the damage will be kinda meh compared to dedicated options.

This is no terrible weapon but its aow could’ve been a lot better by addinf something else to its repulsion attack, maybe a beam or meteorite follow up attack or a cragblade buff to the weapon

          • Anonymous

CGS have some crazy running attacks, especially the one handed heavy running attack consistently catches dumb dumbs who try to go back to grace and summon their buddies again.

The ash of war is unique and fun but the most important thing about this weapon is the scaling of it. Double Bs with high base damage means on a str int build this thing goes toe to toe with Helphens Steeple and Royal Greatsword. And both of those hit like freight trains

Another weapon that suits my build and looks like a lot of fun, buuuuuuuut... I look at this, then I look at my +9 Dark Moon Greatsword, then I look at this again, then I sigh and put it back in my backpack with the rest of my unused arsenal...

This weapon became one of the wost weapons to one of the best. Don't listen to dumdums, the weapon art works well in invasions

                • Jokes aside, what this weapon really needs is more hitstun on the initial hit paired with a bit of a faster speed on the AoE. That way, if you land the thrust into the ground on your opponent, it will true combo into the explosion. That, I think, would make this AoW more viable. It’s a reliable way to land the AoE but it’s hard to pull off and requires a prediction on the user’s part. As it is now, it’s not hitting any competent player.

Dual wield two of these and wear Rennala’s helmet with tree sentinel armor and you’ll get the ultimate banana man cosplay.

The AoE increases with upgrade levels, it deals way more damage than gravitas and has higher poise than it while being slower and costing more fp and obv knocking your opponent down which is good in ganks or when being surrounded

A reminder that if you don't like this sword weapon skill or/and moveset, magic infused omen cleaver on same str/int build has 20 less ar, with damage going up by leveling int.... and even on max level omen cleaver being weaker by 50 ar, but with higher damage multiplier on its strong attack chop...

After the buff it's skill is decent, but it is still rather slow and costs too much fp for what it does...
Though it is a perfectly serviceable curved greatsword with high damage and somewhat good aoe skill (gravitas has more utility and is faster, while wawes of darkness is better in every way with both being much cheaper...) it's still needs some buffs...

As much as i love gravity magic and this sword look, magic infused Omen cleaver on same str/int build deals 60 damage less then this, while being able to choose ashes of war for it and having the same weight...
Sure the strong attack is different, but it isn't useless...

every other gravity weapon is black, this thing being gold kind of annoys me lol. and a stiff breeze will knock you out of the weapon art. other than that tho its good. nice scaling and damage. curved greatswords are also good fun. recommended

Yo will pick this weapon up, play with it for a minute, it will feel horrible to use, and you will put it back down.

Amazing weapon fashion and move set wise, but the AoW is a bit disappointing. I wish unique weapons like this would at least let you select from a specific type or category of AoW (magic, flame art, sacred) as a limitation, instead of being fixed with just one.

Sword will increase 2-3 AR in STR scaling at +10 from 20 to 80 STR, and 2-3 (mostly 2) AR in INT until 50. Adding any DEX from base will increase AR by 0-2 (mostly 1) pretty much indefinitely. 1 level into DEX increased AR by 1 every other level (0 being the other increase) with some random 2s sprinkled in.

Does this sword even have a hyperarmor? Is this a bug? Any mob in solo can knock down the castes of this sword for a hit. This is a joke.

The damage isn't bad at all, would absolutely use it more if it had waves of darkness or Onyx lord explosion into meteorite attack as a weapon skill, or even gravitas....

                                              • Anonymous

I have two of these at +10 powerstanced along with a Bloodhound Fang I switch to when I need to dodge or rapidly close/make distance. This sword hits like a truck and looks awesome when powerstancing. Also I am STR+INT build with 80 INT. The weapon art from this for me hits for 1.2k+ to everything around me and makes enemies fly off cliffs easily or at least get knocked on their back 5-10m away. I'm wearing very heavy armor (Tree Sentinel) so things basically never interrupt it so hyperarmor don't matter. Very good weapon.

                                                • Anonymous

I think this sword's scaling is bugged. The royal greatsword, at cdc scaling is beating the hell out of the Onyx greatsword at beb scaling. I'm at 40 strength, 20 dex, and 60 int. What is this

                                                  • Anonymous

Ngl I think this one is slept on for STR-INT builds or really just INT builds in general. The scaling isn't anything too sexy or anything but it has solid base damage and having a B scaling in INT makes it a pretty capable melee option for INT builds, especially in the mid game. Solid in PvP too, does nice damage and the curved greatswords in general are really useful for catching roll spammers. The weapon art gets clowned on a lot for lacking hyper armor, but it does really solid damage if you can get it to connect. The key is to stagger them with the initial part of the attack where the sword is thrusted into the ground. Or in PvP use it after hitting them with an R1 and they're expecting another R1... If they try to roll behind you you will catch them for massive damage, provided that you have a high INT level. It scales entirely off of weapon level and INT level. I suspect the people complaining about it doing like 200 damage are strength builds that invested the bare minimum INT to wield it. That's a pattern on this wiki in general though, many people invest the bare minimum INT/faith/arcane and then complain about the weapon arts that scale off of those, wondering why they don't do more damage lmao.

                                                    • Anonymous

I don't see the scaling on this working as advertised. When I pump points into INT, the damage increases. If I highlight STR it doesn't show the weapon scales from it at all and if I put points into STR the damage doesn't increase. It seems like the weapon uses the bare requirements for STR/DEX and the actual scaling comes from INT.

                                                      • Anonymous

I don't like the weapon art on this sword but it hits like a freakin' Mac truck. At 55 Strength, 55 Intelligence, and 55 Dex it has something like 850 AR or so. And if I were to divert the dex to Strength and intelligence? Crazy

                                                        • Anonymous

Why do I see this weapon as S-tier on a bunch of lists? Just curious, using it as a stepping stone to moonlight GS and it’s good but doesn’t feel crazy. Ash of war is slow and I can’t poise through most attacks with it
