Obsidian Lamina is a Reaper in Elden Ring. It was added with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The Obsidian Lamina scales primarily with StrengthDexterity and Arcane and is a good Weapon for bleed builds. It can be obtained after completing Sir Ansbach's questline by aiding him.

Signature weapon of the Pureblood Knight Ansbach. A viciously keen and slender scythe made for combat.

The obsidian edge relies not upon trickery to fulfil its violent purpose—only well-honed skill is required to rip and rend through foes, sowing blossoms of red upon the battlefield.

while sure, this seems worse than the bloody helice, this L2 is special. the helice only moves you backwards, whereas you have influence on the direction of this dodge, and god does it do the job and then some. lets you get right behind your enemies.

Fought radahn twice just to powerstance a weapon I rarely use, then did the same for thiollier on ng4. Love this game but collecting everything is so long if you miss something in ng1

Really needs the arcane requirement lowered or arcane scaling improved. Ive been a scythe onetrick since ds3. I was waiting for this exact weapon (bloody helice for scythe) for so long, but found that theres no way for me to make a build for this weapon without screwing over every other weapon (especially scythes that arent good on blood infusion since they have built in bleed). I dont understand what makes the bloody helice deserve good arcane scaling but this weapon doesnt?

The Latin trivia is crazy. Lamina is literally Blade, that's it. Blades of grass, Blades of metal, Blades ffs

            • Anonymous

This is disappointing, full stop, it COULD be a lot better without it being to overbearingly strong, it's a Somber weapon meaning you can't at least put Blood Grease on this thing, it's practically purely Dex but with a 17 Arcane requirement which puts it behind other options right from the start, either the requirements should be lessened or the scaling should be adjusted so that the Arcane investment doesn't feel wasteful.

              • Anonymous

The damage on the weapon is more than fine. It's outpaced on paper by the Grave Scythe and Bloody Helice, sure, but the ash and the moveset more than make up for it. The ash is really good at getting stance breaks, just be careful not to overcommit to the 3 hit finisher unless you know you'll get away with it.

Blade of Mercy, Shard of Alexander, Lord of Blood Exultation, utility slot (recommend blue dew or cerulean amber to keep up with FP demands). Run those talismans and this weapon should be more than fine for any of your needs.

it has dog **** damage compare to other scythe but its definitely more fun than just standing and spinning a scythe

                  • Anonymous

Unlike Bloodhounds skill, this has a high skill ceiling in that you need to experiment with lock on to make it work in PVP for the mixups

General Radahn. A pleasure to see you after all this time. But those remains don’t belong to you. Lord Mohg will have his dignity.

I did a run with this on ng+1 and it was one my favorites runs and it became one of my favorite weapons, it really feels like you are dancing with the boss and it's so smooth to use, the stance damage is really good, and i recommend that you try not to use buffs to enjoy more of the bossfights but if you want more damage that's up to you but the weapon has good damage already and in my opinion it's better than bloody helice

I used this against Maliketh once, and in the second phase I was just using the AoW to cinematically dodge the air slices. It's fun to use, and ignore the people who say it's bad.

                          • Anonymous

Using the AoW towards the enemy back and backstab him is one of the most stylish thing you can pull in the game. Looks like you behead him while dodging.

Me then: "Dude, I like Ansbach and I'll do his quest every time, but you were still a finnicky difficult pal to get, so I'd like you to be at least a little bit good. Because otherwise, such a shame that Morgott's shiv has the same kind of scaling as you do."

Me now: "My darling, you will always have a place at my side, and I promise you I'll learn to use your ash. I don't care that you have less build-up and attack rate than any other scythe on Occult, you don't need these things."

In-between: "hey what if I tested my brand new weapon that I don't yet master on Malenia?"

                              • Anonymous

Wish this was JUUUST a bit better… like, more AR would be fine but that’s also the most boring way possible to buff this thing. It’d be cool if using the ash also applied bloodflame to the weapon for a short time or something, it’s odd that this is THE weapon of choice for the leader of the Pure Blood Knights and yet the bleed on it is just the standard for reapers. It presumably has an obsidian blade for gods sake, why doesn’t this really lean into the bleed aspect?

                                • Anonymous

AoW moveset awesomely punishes those who think they simply can dodge early and move out of area before you. Then the wide swing catches them on your flank as they come out of dodge roll. Just precious.

This weapon forced me to play without lock-on on duels and the maneuver without it feels incredible. Thank you ansbach, for making me a better player.

I swear this weapon has some hidden moveset and it's drives me crazy!
Once i decided to check this AoW moveset and somehow instead of the regular combo my character smashed this scythe in the ground.
It doesn't looked like moveset from any other weapon or AoW, but i still don't know what was that

                                      • Anonymous

Ignore the comments saying this is a bad weapon. It just has a higher skill ceiling and requires putting some thought into your approach. You can dodge towards enemies by not using lock on and treating it like a backstep. Re-targeting mid dodge makes the follow up extremely unpredictable. Very powerful in both PVP and PVE. I like running it with the two handed sword talisman, shard of alexander and the smithscript dagger in an off hand slot to keep the little bit of bleed build up on some enemies that keep their distance.

                                          Who cares about the math?
You dodge, you punish and you style on anyone after you combo them to death.
Plus one of the best bros ever wields it and it looks cool af.
                                          Honestly my favorite weapon.

                                          • Anonymous

The dodge on the AOW is great, but the enemy tracking sucks. So many times I dodge an enemy hit, and if they move my follow up R2s hit to the side. Every hit on the post dodge R2's should track current enemy position at the time I press R2, I shouldn't whiff 75% of my shots against agile enemies with this.

When the AOW is style over function, it's a failure. If the dodge is only good thing about the AOW, I may as well drop it and roll as I used to before using this. At lest other weapons I use will actually land their hits.

I don't care about your number-crunching drivel. This is insanely beautiful, foercely elegant weapon, that is a heirloom of the most honorable comrade, fallen in battle against a god. I'm wielding it no. matter what.

                                              • Anonymous

A perfectly fun weapon for Dex builds with some minimal arcane investment.

Is it OP? No. Is it bad? Not at all.

Plus you look like a total boss using the AoW to dodge everything. Makes Miyazaki's feet tingle with delight.

                                                • Anonymous

This thing is being majorly slept on. its amazing in both PVP and PVE. ironically, it feels like its designed to fight against mohg. combine it with furious blade of ansbach, and you have the side-backstep from the scythe that you can throw enemy off by using blades of ansbach instead of the follow up heavy attack

                                                  • Anonymous

This weapon is heavily slept on due to it being interpreted as "Worse helice" however, this weapon is actually fantastic in pvp for several reasons.

                                                    1. The spread of the slash when counter attacking is in fact REALLy good. And roll catches oddly well. While it doesn't have the same reach for a roll back, most pvp players are far more tuned to dodge and counter Helice as it is more meta and common. Also while Helice is rarely able to get in the rest of its skill combo beyond the main shank stab, and is therefore only useful for punishing people who get greedy with their own punishes, The slash will often hit nearly half its combos, and to top it off, while Helice has a period of recovery and vulnerability after a combo, Lamina pulls a Eleanora's Poleblade and throws in a second dodge at the end of the combo which also possesses I frames and doesn't cost extra fp, so it self ensures safety during trades both successful and failed.

                                                    2. Its a Damage Option not a Bleed option. I'd normally recommend using this scythe when you need raw damage, such as when opponents use bolluses (been seeing a lot of those) so your blood weapons which rely on buildup for pure damage can't do anything. But thanks to the scythe's high ar hit rate especially on the skill compared to other aows, with Millicent and Rotten Winged procing immediately on the second hit, you can do significantly more raw physical damage, as long as you go for a 50/40 Arc/Dex build. I highly recommend wielding this weapon as a second right hand weapon under whatever main bleed weapon you use if you find yourself taking on a bleed resistant enemy.

                                                    3. As a Scythe its mid, but as an overall weapon its good. While Grave Scythe is no doubt significantly better and almost as stylish, I'd argue that overall as a weapon, you'll rarely get anything with as useful an aow, which is even more varied and less risky than Helice's version. Again.. the entire combo includes another dodge at the end to help you recover from the combo in safety. Helice doesn't have that. This isn't Dynast's Finnesse, that's a big mistake many players are still making. The I frames are the same, but their combos and hitboxes make them ideal for dealing with different opponent playstyles.

                                                    • Anonymous

I use this with ansbachs furious bloodflame incantation amd the WA combos stupid good with it. PvP just baits people easily and if they figure it out I swap to bloody helices since it also combos. Just use furious blade and when fire pops up you should already be in backstep so if they try to punish they eat the rest of the art and then you dodge back again.

                                                      • Anonymous

As a type of glass, obsidian can be worked to produce edges several times sharper than steel, but far more fragile.

                                                        • Anonymous

Pretty much just a scythe version of the Bloody Helice thrusting sword
Both have about the same AR and have unique skills that cater to a 'dodge and riposte' playstyle

The main issue is Bloody Helice does pierce damage, which is MUCH better for counter attacks & is obtained much earlier and with a lot less trouble

                                                          • Anonymous

The range, as with all scythes is abysmal given they’re polearms and the attack speed sucks but it only really matters for pvp where gap closing and spacing matters. In Pve it’s loads of fun and staggers bosses way more than I thought which more than makes up for the slow attack speed. The weapon art is prime punish material for any nuke or slow recovery attack a boss may have esp with its backward leap at the end of the follow up. I highly recommend muling this to a new char just to do a full playthrough with it, it’s just that fun.

These uncharged (and specifically uncharged) R2s look darn weird, especially the second one, they feel like some kind of glitch where you cancel an animation into a completely different one, tough blow on a weapon where 90% of the reason you'd use it is to look good

                                                              • Anonymous

The arcane contribution on this is pitiful both in added AR and hemorrhage buildup. Just go 80 DEX and don't even bother with it unless you're RL200 or higher and have spare points.

                                                                • Anonymous

Im sorry, what? Was this Copy pasted?

                                                                  • Anonymous

Pretty much the only reason to ever use this would be because you prefer the unique skill it provides over any of the infusable skills you can apply to the ordinary Scythe, which otherwise has this weapon beat when it comes to it's effectiveness as, well, a weapon. Regardless of whether you are going on an 80 Dexterity build for damage, or an 80 Arcane build both for damage and Bleed buildup, the Scythe will just do more of what you want, while also being more versatile in that if can be effectively used on basically any build in the game, Sacred, Flame Art, Magic, Cold (Strength is for the Grave Scythe, really), while having tons of options for a variety of different skills. This is locked in with a minimum 17 Arcane requirement with extremely mediocre Arcane scaling, meaning if you try using this on a Arcane build then it's just plain bad, so it's basically only a Dexterity weapon with more restrictive minimum requirements than the other Reapers. The Ash of War is good, but this weapon otherwise feels very average and doesn't stand out as an amazing option compared to it's peers, and even further compared to the amount of effort it takes to obtain it. Overall, this Ash of War is the primary and sole reason to use this, with the weapon itself being kind of disappointing, it doesn't even offer a unique moveset.

                                                                    • Anonymous

Then you start using the arcane art of free camera, and it becomes much more satisfying

                                                                      • Anonymous

Personally love this weapon, it has a unique play style with advantages & disadvantages, bleed is good but not spammer high, and takes practice to use especially in PvP. Only gripe would be the arcane scaling, if it scaled higher on arc & maybe reduce the dex scaling as a trade off it could work a bit better for arc builds. That being said I still use it daily.

                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                          • Anonymous

Hope they buff the Arc scaling so it can be a more reliable Dex/Arc weapon and lets you use incants without losing out on heavy Dex scaling

                                                                            • Anonymous

By the time you get it, the best thing to do is mule it to another character to fully enjoy this scythe.

Also, do NOT do the second r2 on the skill unless the enemy is stunlocked/poise-broken, or else you'll most likely take damage.

Two-hand it for a free followup to your backstep/sidestep, which does damage similar to a heavy with almost none of the risks

Even without FP, you can use it like a quickstep to get across miserable stuff like rot swamps and lava very quickly

Substitute the poor scythe charged R2's with the skill followup, since it won't have to hit twice for full damage

                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                • Anonymous

Making weapons available only after you beat the hardest part if the entire game is such a waste ... for most people this weapons might as well not exist.

                                                                                  • Anonymous

People who hate this weapon are too reliant on either bleed or op weapons. The skill is fun and satisfying to use as a counterattack. Plus, finally an elegant looking scythe. Only downside is where you get this weapon from

                                                                                    • Anonymous

If you use the endure aow on any fist weapon then try to use this weapons skill, the heavy attack follow up will never activate and instead, you will be locked in a 3 second animation where your character does nothing.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                          • Anonymous

Just feels lacking. Even at +10, only gets D in Arcane with less than 60 Bleed, B scaling in Dex is okay, but even sitting at 80 Dex you don't get over 600 AR. Naturally, the idea is most likely that the Bloodloss will supplement the damage, right? But again, that Arcane scaling is awful, so you'd need a serious investment so you could proc Bleed regularly. At base Arcane requirement of 17, this thing feels like it takes forever to get a bleed off. AoW looks cool, but strangely slow. It's nice you can dodge either backward or to either side, but against players or a lot of bosses, you won't be able to reach them with the followup combo unless they're standing totally still. Using this against any of the main DLC bosses feels like pulling teeth since they're always jumping around or hyper armor through everything to smack you out of the combo. The dodge also has this very obnoxious pause after it where your character strikes a pose in anticipation of the AoW combo, but annoyingly this pause also makes the dodge not very good at avoiding damage unless used specifically to avoid the last strike in a chain or a single attack. You're gonna have a bad time trying to make use of the dodge against Consort of Spam.

If only we could dodge forward as well, allowing us to use it as a gap closer to remedy the easy avoid of the combo. Most of this weapons damage is in the AoW, which wearing full Ansbach set can net you some pretty good damage with the right talismans. Unfortunately, again, can barely ever actually use it. Ansbach set only boosts the AoW damage, not the Scythe itself, so honestly the fact that you'll rarely get to use the full combo makes wearing his armor almost detrimental because of its low defensive stats.

Since the scythe scales primarily off Dex, it also just lacks good synergy with any of the Blood Oath incantations Ansbach's set also boosts. You need a minimum 19 Fth to use all the Blood Oath incants, including Furious Blade of Ansbach, but then you need a hefty Arcane investment to make them do decent damage, which isn't going to work too great when you need a very solid Dex investment for the base AR of the Scythe to even hit the 500s.

Maybe from levels 200-250 this thing could be at least decent if paired with the incantations. At 150 you're either using the Lamina and maybe some other Bleed infusion weapons (which what's the point then, way better options than the Lamina), or you're using a weaker Lamina with weaker Blood incantations.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

It’s a shame how low the arcane scaling is. Obsidian blades are some of the sharpest in the world I wish this weapon reflected that.

                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                  • Anonymous

Put blood tax on great katana and it will change this weapon's aow. Specifically the second part of spinning slash. To fix it, kick. Seems to only be the great katana that does this.

                                                                                                    • Anonymous

I've used this a lot in pvp so I can confidently, without any exaggeration, say that it is trash. It's short, has pathetic scaling, and the aow is way too stamina hungry.

Sure the aow is fun and pretty good in pve, so there's that. But in pvp the whole thing just blows unless you're playing versus someone way under your skill level or against a full squad of Timmies.

They have a lot of balancing to do with this dlc, 90% of new stuff is just the most horrible trash, and then the rest is stuff like bone bow and swift slash. So I'm pretty sure this weapon will see a buff to either base damage or scaling. Aow could use a bit of hyper armor too, it's just a worse version of bloody helice's aow.

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

What does the page mean with "cannot be enchanted [...], but can be boosted with Consumables"? Grease and Drawstring Grease don't work

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

Sad to say that, other than the AoW, the Obsidian Lamina is functionally-identical to the regular Scythe in gameplay (even including the double-hit charged heavy). It requires heavy investment in both Dex and Arc in order to outdamage a Keen or Occult Scythe, and even then loses the buffing ability of the former and the better status build-up of the latter.

So yeah, the only circumstances where I'd recommend this over the regular Scythe are if A) you're trying to squeeze down as much weight as possible (for light/med roll, or...I dunno, a Blue Dancer build), or B) you're committed to learning and using its admittedly sick-as-**** skill.

...also, I can't be the only one who keeps reading it as "Obsidian Lamia," right?

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

I literally can write a book about how bad this weapon is but I'll write a few of my reasons here.
                                                                                                                  .
Well first of all its locked behind a 40$ paywall but that's not important. The main issue here is its locked behind a complex quest with lots of different choices and better rewards and also its locked behind the hardest final boss of the dlc. And its shorter than the other weapons in its class and cannot be buffed or infused and the damage type is slash and literally 99.99% of the enemies both in PvE and PvP have higher slash defenses.
And it requires a lot of stat investment in dex and arcane making it non usable in lower level runs and multiplayer but the scaling and base damage is so bad making this do less damage than a dagger so its not viable at all in high rune level gameplay either and also the ash of war.. well I can say every other aow that you can get in the base game in the first 30 minutes of starting a new character will perform much better than this things aow.. very bad weapon overall only if the damage type was thrust like the church pick and we could buff this thing it would have been one of the best weapons with spear talisman and two handed sword talisman...such a shame because this weapon looks so cool and awesome but nobody never gonna see anyone use this..

                                                                                                                  • Anonymous
