Commander's Standard is a Halberd in Elden Ring. The Commander's Standard scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity, and is a good Weapon for those users with high-Strength builds.
A beaten red battle standard is furled around this time-worn
halberd.
Even after his lord was fled, Commander O'Neil continued to
brandish this flag in the devastation of the rot-eaten field of battle,
the sole veteran who remembers this battle with pride.

Anyone else missing this after beating him? I saw someone on some other site that had the same issue, but they didn't really get an answer....
- Anonymous
Never mind, I was looking at my Great Spears in my inventory.

The Commander's Standard is a standard weapon that deals standard damage and uses Rallying Standard skill.
- Anonymous
How come a spear that had a weird dance became a Standard Banner...
I miss that wierd dance!
- Anonymous
i don't understand how exactly the guy that uses it can do such a varied move set and the best you get is a poke and a buff weapon skill?
- Anonymous
You lose ~5% AR and skill flexibility on a pure str build (assuming you 2 hand at 54) compared to nightrider or gargoyle. This serves as the strongest str halberd with the poke R1 and spin R2 moveset.
The skill is extremely strong if you can maintain it and it happens to be the only non-spell buff that benefits from old lord's talisman. Much easier to maintain if you have blue dew talisman. It costs 30 fp, but you only need 15 fp to cast this if you're below 30. If you aren't using your fp for anything else, the buff is potentially always active.
This is the strongest AURA buff in PVE only, The spell version of Golden Vow is weaker than this in PVE, but stronger than in PVP. Make sure to CAST THIS AFTER any faith builds during boss fights or exploration, but DO NOT CAST this if you're teamed with a faith build and you're about to fight an invader.
- Anonymous
I’ll surely be crucified for this but I wish this things WA was better. More specifically, I don’t think 30fp for a buff that only lasts 30 seconds is very good, at least not for melee characters. Within a 30 second window you won’t be able to hit most bosses too many times with that boosted damage, especially considering it’s a fairly long cast animation so you need to use it a safe distance from a boss if you want to reapply it mid fight and then closing the distance on the boss again already costs you time from the buff again.
I wish it was longer to feel more worth it, maybe 45 seconds, I understand that a full minute would be too much but still.
Otherwise, weapon art aside, it’s a great weapon. It’s my favourite halberd moveset. Only downside is that it’s DS3 predecessor was a spear which did kinda work a bit better.
- Anonymous
Slept on this for a long time but never really fell in love with Nightrider or Banished. Gave it a shot today and what a blast to fight with.
It's gorgeous, the range makes R2s useable and I love using the ash for pure theatrics in the coliseum.
- Anonymous
This says you can use magic to buff this weapon, but I can’t seem to cast blood flame blade on it, maybe needs reexamination/fixing

When two-handed at 60 strength and 60 dex this has 785 physical attack which is tied with a keen infused Guardian's Swordspear at 80 dex, which is also a tie for highest physical attack among halberds when comparing all infusions with 80/20, 60/60, and 20/80 melee stat spreads. While a 60/60 quality stat spread is difficult to fit into a level 150 meta if you care about that, it's still workable. And quality builds have notable advantages such as optimizing quality aow damage, achieving the highest possible attack on bows and greatbows, and optimizing the damage of many uninfusable weapons such as Commander's Halberd.
As for the advantages of Commander's Halberd, it has the highest range of all halberds in the game, a great moveset, one of the strongest buff skills for PvE, and ranges from one of the highest if not the highest physical AR among halberds in the game as long as you're not an idiot and understand how to optimize the damage of weapons that get good scaling from both melee stats. I see a lot of people saying the damage is lower compared to other halberds, but that's only if you're running a full strength build with very little dex. How confidently some morons spew nonsense out of their face-anuses without actually checking if the numbers back them up is ridiculous.

Simple, good damage, long reach, effective. No flash or gimmick required with this weapon. Great in PvE and PvP.
Great choice for DLC final boss due to its damage type and just already being a good weapon
- Anonymous
Used this to slay Commander Niall and Commander Gaius. There can be only one.
- Anonymous
the closest you can get to a traditional final fantasy dragoon halberd.
- Anonymous
buff does not last too long and it has lacklustre damage as compared to some top tier halberds like guardian swordspear/// lack of being able to be infused to apply unique ashes of war makes it's use a one off in a bossfight or small area boss to buff your primary weapon probably a colossal. With enough vigor you cna ho****** to your colossal apply cragblade on it and get a nice damage increase for about 15 seconds haha ... i don't think i'll upgrade it beyond +6 for this reason.
- Anonymous
I really wanted the twirly scarlet tornado thing for the ash of war :( but instead I got a buff that lasts a few fleeting seconds! (Fromsoft gotta make more scarlot rot weapons.)
- Anonymous
why does the male mature voice 2 sound like falco from star fox when using the l2
- Anonymous
Idk why but I really hate playing against this halberd in particular. Any other halberd, no problem.
- Anonymous
Looks like the part that says this weapon can be enchanted with magic or boosted with consumables is inaccurate. I'm on patch 1.10 and I can't use weapon buff spells or consumables on it.
- Anonymous
It's such a shame that, despite having a moveset similar to many great spears, you cannot hold a shield up and attack with this weapon at the same time. I know it's because this weapon is classified as a halberd, not a spear, but I feel like they should work together given that this weapon's moveset is basically a heavier version of the partisan, which can be used while blocking. FromSoft is ruining my tank support coop build!
- Anonymous
Really good secondary option to pick up in a playthrough if youre using a strength or quality build.
- Anonymous
Pure speculation of course, but I think O'Neil was with Malenia's forces. First, his frostbite twin guards the passage to the Haligtree. Second, O'Neil's lord "was fled". The wording implies that "was fled" by someone, not "fled from battle" by himself, or at least that's how I understood it. Malenia technically did not fled by herself, but was fled, i.e. carried away, by Finlay.

nice weapon for buffing....
but why use it as buffer when you can use it as a poking stick... yes this thing was Long.... really long adn heavy...
10/10 would poke Malenia again

I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna use this thing as an actual weapon and not a really heavy power-buffing stick.

Best pvp halberd (other then maybe dragon halberd) its pure strength and has a great ash of war buff.

Incredibly comfortable weapon. Sucks only against the biggest bosses and smallest mobs, which is when you whip out a sidearm or spirit ashes. It's comfy like a nice cup of hot chocolate after a long day. Literally just build to the min requirements, then dump everything into Vigor, and you too can play on "Games Journalist" difficulty.

I second the notion of this being the best PvP halberd, it's the only one I have used since the early days of this games PvP. Yes the ash is basically useless in PvP, but the damage is only outclassed by the nightrider glaive on a strength build. But, this halberd has a better moveset for PvP when compared to nightrider, and it is the longest halberd in the game. Compared to banished knight, it does more damage (on a strength build), has the same moveset, and is noticeably longer. Plus let's be honest, for fashion this weapon is significantly more stylish than banished knight.
- Anonymous
best pvp halberd. hear me out, I cannot lose in duels with this thing. it has the good poke moveset and the longest range of all halberds, and even though its raw damage is lower than ones like nightrider and its aow is useless in pvp, the force and pressure you can put on your enemy makes its normal attack set strong enough alone. I love being the commander!
- Anonymous
Not a bad primary weapon on its own, arguably OP with the skill.
Given that malenia defeated godrick make him lick her boots and launch an invasion on radahn territory, with the fact that in game lot of godrick footsoldier and banish knight is seen hanging on redmane castle it seem like both commander was part of godrick army who serves under malenia. With their storm moveset it seem like they are indeed belong to stormveil castle.
So in conclusion they serves under malenia but previously serves under godrick. With one of them allies with cleanrot knight in cealid and the other guarding path to haligtree, While summon lot of exile and banish knight they are in fact godrick army who serves under malenia after godrick defeated.
Their attack have lot of wind involve and they jumping with wind seem like they belong to stormveil castle.

The buff is nice but I wish we got the scarlet rot/ frostbite tornado attack instead so this weapon had something going for it other than “cool poking stick”

FS should make The main character guy use the halberd unrolled until the buffs wears off.

I know its a nitpick, but its kinda lame they made the buff essentially just golden vow, instead of a stance ash of war where you could cast either a strong defensive or offensive buff
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
The damage resist on this thing goes super hard (in PVE) (I mean it's 20% resist vs Golden Vow Spell's 10%) (but it's super nerfed in PVP obviously). I just beat Sewer Mohg and also Morgott, at level 81 and 83 IIRC, and wearing just the Cleanrot Knight set, Dragoncrest Shield Talisman +1, and this buff, my physical resists were 50.24% / 48.73% / 51.99 / 53.76%. Felt nuts how decently I could face tank Morgott's attacks as long as my buff was still active. Also as a side note, I checked the frame data and by far the soonest thing you can do after the buff is: dodge. The dodge window is the earliest window by far, so you should probably always dodge out of your buff to get moving as soon as possible.
- Anonymous
Anyone got opinions on an armor set that matches this halberd extremely well? Looking closely at it, I'm struck by its bronzish coloring (but still with a silver blade) and also obviously the red and gold banner. I'm not sure if the insignia on the banner corresponds to anything/anyone else, but the color scheme and red make me wonder if it looks good with the Cleanrot Knight set (somewhat ironically given that you get this from someone who as far as I can tell fights against the Cleanrots). Might also look good with the Crucible Knight/Tree sets.
- Anonymous
Also it looks super cool, I definitely prefer its slender proportions and pretty red-and-gold flag over the Golden Halberd's more extreme/cartoony proportions and monotone color palette. Previously I was underrating this weapon cuz I thought the damage didn't scale well unless you were super high level (compared to the Nightrider's Glaive in particular) but damn it the damage scales well enough and the extra range and weapon buff and visual design are all very cool.
- Anonymous
I just tried this out for the first time after enjoying the normal Glaive a pretty large amount but wanting to find a similar weapon that did Standard instead of Slash damage. Fittingly, this Standard does Standard damage. Halberd Running R2 is one of my favorite moves in the game (such a big wide strong slash and you can do it from a sprint and unlike Colossals it's still a controlled enough motion that you're not just slamming your weapon into the ground) and this is the longest halberd in the game so it's got the craziest Halberd Running R2. It helps that its damage is also very high tier on a strength build before even using its buff, and the buff not only makes your damage nutty but also makes you more durable. Buff's definitely expensive for the duration but hey you don't have to invest in Faith at all to use it. Golden Halberd may or may not do more damage vs many targets (who aren't holy resistant anyway) but Commander's Standard is still the longest halberd in the game and has great damage numbers and a great big running R2 slash.

To make this weapon viable you need to change the Tarnished's voice and find the least annoying shout

perfect for a greatshield build where you can run shield bash/crash in offhand
Is it the strongest halberd in the game? No, though it honestly isn't that far off. It has very strong competition. Is the Ash of War the best? No, but it's definitely not useless. Does it look awesome unfurling the banner and screaming a buff upon your fellow Tarnished?
You bet your sweet cinnamon buns it does. Scream forth, tiny human, and then hope your opponent doesn't attack within five seconds or you're eatin' a metallic snack.

At 80 strength the Nightrider Glaive has 777 AR. The Commander’s Standard passes this at 80/40 STR/DEX and the Nightrider Glaive can’t keep up by switching to Quality, so beyond 80/40 this is the superior damage halberd. Truly a Commander’s weapon.
I once fought Radahn while using this and the host and other furled finger seemed to know exactly how it worked, we went it and stayed fairly tight but kept loose in order to divide Radahn's attention but when the buff wore off we quickly regrouped to top it up. We finished him in just under 3 minutes including running up to him and his phase transition.

Coolest looking Halberd
Wish more of the Halberd took that simpler style
The other are kind of overdesigned imo, like the Golden and Nightrider
But sadly it's really not that good of a Halberd in comparison, the buff is cool but the movement and scaling makes it average at best
Really piss me off because I love how it looks, with a cool shield it could be a God tier fashion statement

The lord mentioned in the description is very likely the storm lord, given by how he uses wind abilities to fight you, and we know that the storm lord was fled.

excellent all-around weapon with a universally applicable ash of war.

Me when using this in the Radahn boss fight: Hear me! Ye Tarnished, mighty warriors who have gathered here! Though we may be rivals...or from completely different eras, we must stand together now! My true name is Jeanne d'Arc! In the name of the Elden Lord...I shall become your shield!

Should give temporary rot buildup when using commanders standard ):
- Anonymous
Goes very well with mimic since the mimic will automatically buff both of you.
How do I tell how much poise damage a weapon has?
And does it go up as you level the weapon?
My headcanon is that malenia and radahn battled each other while godrick was watching and grafting popcorn, but malenia did a little trolling and nuked caelid thus leaving godricks army turned to red acid

Honestly this and the banished knight halberd have boring movesets. Like literally just all thrusting for light attacks and a spin for heavy. Although the roll/crouch attack is cool.

Funny how when O'Neil and Niall use the buff they shout something like "Glory brave knights!" or something like that, yet when we use it we just go "AAAAUUUH-" very inspiring rally cry.

This has the exact same guard counter move and damage as every other halberd.

According to hitbox data, commander's standard here has the longest range of all halberds in the game. Plus it looks cool, has a good moveset, and does excellent damage on a strength build. Despite this, I almost never see it used in PvP. The only downside to this weapon is you can't customize its ash, but the one it comes with is simple but very useful.

I like to cosplay being a random peon in the world. This is great to RP a standard bearer in any lords army, just grab the appropriate armor. The Haligtree and Leyndell sets match the color scheme, but the Raya Lucaria set has feather accents and is my favorite.

Rallying Standard seems to glitch waterflow dance. Over level 400, stat requirements are being met. Anyone else experiencing this glitch? Looking to confirm the problem and/or find a solution.

If you're looking for raw damage and you have the 12 faith to wield the Golden Halberd outdoes this despite the buff on this being stronger. at 50 str, +10 upgrade and min requirements for the other abilities, with buff on, Golden has 948 AR and this only does 799. Not to mention that Golden Vow lasts 45s while this buff lasts only 30s.

One of the best and most underrated weapons in PvP. I swapped out dual Guts Greatswords for this & Nightrider Glaive halberds.
I’m doing almost as much damage as the colossal swords thanks to the superior buff on this weapon (vs. Golden Vow), but with much faster swings and less stamina drain.
With Royal Knight’s Resolve on the Nightrider Glaive, fully buffed with Commander’s Standard ash & Flame, Grant Me Strength, Claw Talisman/Raptors Black Feathers, jump L1s hit for 3.2k @ 60 Str (2.3k w/o weapon/FGMS buffs).

The real secret of this weapon is its guard counter: it hits extremely fast for very high damage and retains all the range of a normal thrust, go check it out

Waterflow dance on blade of malenia does almost no damage for me after using rallying standard. Can anyone else confirm or give a reason to why? Not sure if this a glitch or something else im doing wrong.
- Anonymous
I wish there was a different version of this with a new moveset akin to Niall's or a unique moveset for using it with the Veteran's Prosthesis. Niall's really cool moveset when using his makes me wish the Standard got something similar somehow just because it's so cool.
- Anonymous
I haven’t seen an answer anywhere, so I don’t even know if it’s just me someone please let me know! There seems to be a glitch when using rallying standard then trying to use waterflow dance with hand of malenia. It’s doing almost no damage after using the buff! I can’t figure out why, the regular light/heavy attacks are doing more damage from buff, but the ash of war goes to almost no damage. Only weapon I’ve seen this do it to

Criminally under-rated weapon which is essentially a high damage great spear but with better stagger. Unlike Lothric War Banner from DS3 the buff also raises DEF in addition to ATK
This is a low-mid level PvP monster on a dedicated build.
Compatible with Spear talisman

One of a couple halberds with the 'thrust' moveset. The halbs with this kind of move tend to have slightly lower damage versus the 'chop' type halberds, but the Commander's Standard is probably the highest damage of the thrust halbs. While it doesn't keep up damage wise with Golden Halberd, the thrust moveset is easier to use, the hitbox is active for a bit longer, and it's very comfortable for roll-catching in PvP. I often have Commander's or Banished Knight mainhand, and then one of the higher damage halbs offhand.

Do you need the stat requirement for the ash of war? I am doing a melee character and I do not really like the ashes of war I own. It would be nice to use my FP for something.
Weird that this is considered a halberd... sure, it has the axehead, though it is slim, but almost all its moves are thrusts
For bow users, this is one of the best accompanying melee weapons you can have. Rallying Standard AoW negates the need for Golden Vow, saving you points in faith, and allowing you to spend more into Strength and Dex, which this scales with. I use it two-handed to reach the 80 Str softcap, and it's a beast in combat.
