Barbed Staff-Spear is a Great Spear in Elden Ring. It is a brand-new Great Spear in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. The Barbed Staff-Spear scales primarily with Strength, Dexterity and Faith and is a good Weapon for Faith players. This has the Jori's Inquisition skill that lets you summon golden arcs towards foes.
Greatstaff of Jori, elder inquisitor. The tip bristles with golden barbs symbolic of the inquisition's torture, allowing one to wield the staff as a greatspear. Attacks deal holy damage, and potency increases with faith.

Id rather have the aow damage cut down and all of them hit than what it is right now, because I feel robbed when only a few hit connects despite the entire barrage hitting

called a "staff spear" and theenemy uses it to cast incants in the fight, and yet it can't be used to cast incantations. what the **** were they thinking with this weapon? it's so pointless, probably has the worst ash of war since ****ing spinning chain as well
- Anonymous
does this scale more well with dex or str? i know its mostly faith

I actually think this weapon is pretty ok, but the ash of war either needs a visual change or a hit detection change. As it's currently set up, only a fraction of the barrage of projectiles can actually hit an enemy, for some reason there's a cooldown for the hit detection on each burst, which makes it very fp inefficient because you're paying 4x the fp for one projectile to hit. Visually, they could just make the number of projectiles decrease and it would make sense, maybe tweak the strength and fp cost to compensate. Changing the hit detection would just be removing the immunity for the remainder of the salvo, and if they're really worried about it overperforming then they can lower the damage and bleed per projectile (assuming the bleed is intentional). I really don't understand why they chose to make it how it is currently other than concerns over being overpowered or a coding issue.

This thing is a menace on an incant user with enough physical stats to wield it. Greatspears pair well with catch flame, and a lot of the new setup incants (fire serpent, golden arc, pest spears) pair wonderfully with the ash of war at range.

this also shares the serpent hunter r2, not just vykes and silurias

With 160 levels put into damage stats (80 Fth, 45, str, 45 dex), this weapon deals 781 damage (297 phys + 483 holy) with 55 bleed (No talismans). To put in perspective Messmer Soldier Spear does 756 phys with no bleed and Bloodfiends Sacred Spear does 716 phys with 55 bleed. Ash of war aside, this is a great pure holy dmg weapon that lets you cast Incantations with a little bleed on the side. I think it would be particularly cool to use the Sword of Darkness and/or Light which can stack and grant a buff that increases holy dmg by 20% each. Combined with the Holy Shrouded Tear 12.5% and Sacred Scorpion Talisman 8% this weapon can deal 1072 damage! (775 holy + 297 phys) in PVP.

I notice that when he casts the Inquisition, his arcs fly level with the ground while ours just crash into the dirt. The bubble hammer shower does this to a degree, so why can't we add that to the staff spear?

This weapon casts no shadow! Same Bug as the solitude greatsword

This should have been a catalyst/spear combo instead of the WA.

This is my greatspear. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My greatspear is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
Without me, my greatspear is useless. Without my greatspear, I am useless.

I love it.
Think of the AoW as a laser beam, it can only hit a certain amount of times regardless of the time spent standing in the beam.
The Aow itself also does bleed.
The R1 isn't great but the running R2 is a charge that can hit multiple times.

Weird Bug: using Flame Spear AoW b4 this, makes you cast Flame Spear when you run out of FP using this weapon's ash
Here's something funny about this weapon's AoW : the golden arcs it throws go in so many directions that it makes it awesome to hit the Putrescent Knight with them, since this mofo keeps moving around 24/7. Considering the fact that if you touch someone with one arc the next 2 or 3 will miss because of the hitbox denial, it's not like you'll be missing some hits anyway. Just lock on this fool, press L2 and watch his health bar dropping like my balls during summer. Just tested it with 70 Faith on a session with a scadutree level 9 host and another summon, i literally soloed the boss for them. Even better, if you're not the target during his "big move" (when he elevates and throws ghostflame all around him) you can still reach him with the AoW and melt his silly ass. 10/10 anything Death-related killer.

This thing has no shadow like the greatsword of solitude. Please help report this issue so it gets fixed

This isn't a spear this is "toy". The PKCS is much better than a stupid, lowly toy for thorny people. PKCS IS BETTER AND WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER. -PKCS Pope

if this isn't a catalyst why does the interactive map use the staff icon rather than the spear icon?

Piercing R2. Bleed. Ranged ash of war also inflicts the bleed. Looks cool (subjective). Yeah, the R1 attacks are garbage but everything else about this is decent.

weapon art for this thing is like if you fired a shotgun and only 1 pellet hit and the rest phase through, it's so unsatisfying. just let me tickle enemies with the funny golden toenail shooter > : (

My disappointment is immeasurable.
The Weapon AOW fires 4 arcs but an enemy can be hit by 1 at the most then hit detection of the other 3 in the salvo is disabled for that enemy. Forget using it against bosses for multihit. If firing continuously you will fire 6 salvos of 4 each and they all behave this way. Tested on a troll and from the full cast salvos only 6 will hit. Every time just those 6.
Versus groups of enemies a single cast of 4 arcs will hit no more than 2 enemies. tested against soldiers in the gatefront ruin during an alarm. It's always 2 hits even when you have 5-6 enemies stacked in the visual AOE. This makes me believe that only 2 out of the 4 arcs have hit detection at all, and from the 2 that can hit, they do not pass through enemies at all. When an arc hits it does a single instance of damage to that enemy and can't damage other enemies it passes through as well as makes it so that the enemy hit can't be hit from the other damaging arc in the salvo of 4.
Overall this is so badly coded it's insane and the visuals are a lie. The FP drain is absolutely ridiculous as well, you are better off just using any other holy damage spell or AOW instead. Despite the arcs actually doing bleed buildup (probably a bug) actually bleeding something with this is near impossible. It took me 4 or 5 full casts on the troll outside Godrik's arena to prock it once by chance and I never bothered to try and reproduce the result.
And to top it all off it's not even that good of a heavy spear. Do yourself a favor and pick literally anything else. This needs to have hit detection on every arc it shoots, with the ability to multihit the same enemy and considering how much the arcs spread and how small they are, it needs to pass through enemies and be able to hit multiple enemies.

The ash of war on this thing is so inaccurate it's almost comical. Often times more than half the projectiles dont even hit the target and only about 2/3 of the ones that do actually do damage with the rest just passing through. The weapon is really cool, I just wish its ash of war was a little better

one of the very few faith weapons in the DLC and entire game, and the AR is just bad. at 71 fth it has 710 AR, a sacred infused banished knight's halberd has 734, a sacred lance does 718. slower moveset but less damage, wow. its still fun to use though, at least the ash is good and it has some bleed, but it needs an AR buff.

holy, bleed, and a buggy weapon makes this a terrible option to fight Elden beast, it doesn’t even look cool either.

Siluria's Tree outperforms this in my opinion. I'll keep you in my back pocket for bosses for future testing though.
It is cool how this, the other dex/fth spear with mostly fth scaling and weapon art, is the absolute counterpart of the first, the Vyke's, in both gameplay and lore.

This weapon is completely unaffected by the Spear Talisman.

Honestly my single favorite looking weapon in all of Elden Ring. Gorgeous. AOW is hype as hell but not extremely useful in pvp as it is comically easy to strafe, but still, I am in LOVE
I had a feeling they were gonna give Holy Damage some love in the DLC, but I never could have foreseen in a million years that they’d give us a Faith-scaled Gatling gun. Oh, and it also causes rapid RANGED bleed buildup.

It’s solid, and cool. I think there’s something wrong with the projectiles, like there was with the moonlight beam, that used to aim to te ground, and I don’t understand why some of them don’t hit, going trough the enemy.
Stats 20str/ 18dex/ 70faith.
Barbed +10: 255phys/ 460holy
Sacred Lance+10: 260phys/ 460holy
not bad, it looks cool and has the sweeping heavy atks i love so much!

The weapon is pretty great, the ash of war can bleed enemies from afar, but there seems to be some immunity frame in between when enemies can be hit by them as only about 1 in 4 of the projectiles deal damage.
- Anonymous
I never thought that we would get a coat rack as a weapon, but here we are. Jokes aside, this is a really good faith weapon. I'm absolutely loving it!
- Anonymous
I have a feeling that this is going to be THE number one tool to absolutely obliterate the Death Rite Birds with the speed that it machine guns out Holy & Bleed. I didn't have any remaining by the time I picked this up to test it, but I am absolutely relishing the chance to hunt them down now once I clear SotE.

Faith great spear with A scaling that can bleed enemies from afar? What the hell, this is such a unique concept and it's super useful for pure faith users. Faith chads eating really well in this dlc.
- Anonymous
Is it... is it really a weapon with Faith scaling that isn't terrible?
A weapon that's actually good for primary Faith builds instead of Str/Faith or Dex/Faith hybrids?
Be still my heart!

this thing is good, really good. dont bother locking on, as long as you arent spinning the camera too fast you can aim this very well unlocked. sure, you cant hit with all the projectiles. but you dont need all the projectiles. the skill builds bleed and the projectiles go way far.
if you have this, any area where you can summon an ash to tank for you is nothing. now go, melt bayle.

I've used this weapon quite a lot so far, and i really like it. I would say it is slightly underpowered, but thats nothing a few buffs can't change. I think that this weapon should get the same effect as the cinquedea however, just for golden arc spells. It would enable it to be a more caster heavy weapon sure, but it would fit the intended playstyle very well.

Ash of War on this works a bit different than you might expect/hope. Visually, you are firing off something like 10 projectiles per second. In practice, enemies can only be damaged by them 2-3 times per second. Proccing damage in larger chunks like this helps cut through enemy defense, but it feels disconnected from what you see on-screen. On top of that, the projectiles sadly don't stack ramping damage of Winged Sword Insignia / Millicent's Prosthesis.

D/D/A at +10, at 80 faith I get ~500 holy damage and ~250 physical damage.
