If you don't care about trying to kill the untouchables, you can use a shortbow to distract them. They'll look at you for a second while the arrow flies, but then turn to face where the arrow hits.
The fact you can't use torrent in here is just an icing on the steaming dung cake this area is. Regarding the winter lantern parry - parry them when their wand starts going down and preferably equip buckler/golden parry/retaliation. They have quite a lot hp so if you are underleveled take status - parry merely enables them to be hurt, and a crit. At lvl 15 my setup was blood poisonous fang and buckler. Also equip clarifying horn charm and best madness resistant armor - their aura can proc it passively and if it does, you're ded

I love that they added winter lanterns, the worst part of bloodborne aside from Rom, into this game! Trash

Is this area a Made in Abyss reference? I swear, the second I entered this place, all I could think was how similar it looked to Made in Abyss. Horror vibe from the stealth mechanic furthers the feeling, other than the whole thing with abyss literally being in the name.

anyone knows how to get to the main "elevated island" thing with the big tree in the middle of the map? it's the biggest tree and i cant seem to find any way up there. map shows there's a bridge nearby to it but no amount of walking around got me to find how to access it. literally explored the whole area too, killed the boss, killed all winter lanters, yet nothing.
also wanna know if there's a way to get to the area behind the castle, it's quite the extended area..

The moment you step into these woods and torrent bucks you off while screaming in horror and no longer allows you to summon him you know thks is no longer an action RPG you're suddenly in a survival horror and unless you're a parry god (something most people aren't) you're no longer the unstoppable tarnished warrior you're the prey.
Time to hide don't let it see you.
- Anonymous
if youre good at quitting out you can quit out when they grab you for retrying the parry

great vibe, too large and not enough loot/interesting stuff tho
- Anonymous
madness builds will cook with the items from here plus that one helm

watch out for eye plants and wear crepus's vial makes this place SOOOOOOOO much easier
- Anonymous
For any stealth enthusiasts: the wa of the lamenting visage makes you harder to detect for the eye monsters. Sprint past them but keep your distance, also be aware of the time limit of the wa.
- Anonymous
Big, empty and boring the correct words for this area. Boss is super basic and the lanterns are just parry fest. No idea why ppl like even a little bit about this area.
- Anonymous
Holy hell this area is BORING. Large and empty. The only positive is that there's Midras Manse.
- Anonymous
This place gave me the same eerie vibes as the swamp level from Halo 1. No flood but plenty of madness and fear all the same.
- Anonymous
I agree that this area could be downsized a tad or at least have some additional good loot littered around go make it more rewarding to explore, but the vibes are immaculate. Maybe one of my favorites in ER. I personally liked taking a break from the dungeons and bosses to play horror survival mode here. Unfortunately for the enemies here the tarnished is the final girl and always wins!

Have the mogh item from varres questline that teleports you to the palace, and put it on one of the dpad hotkeys, in case you get spotted by the winter lanterns.
Came in clutch for me when I triggered one of the flowers that alert the laterns, I thought they were a new material to pick up.
Managed to get the teleport off and got grabbed just as the fade to black came.

I thought after I killed all the enemies and boss torrent wouldn't be scared anymore, but alas...

missing content on this page: when you first enter the manor, the painting on the left is actually a hidden passage. enjoy!
- Anonymous
You can use Unseen Form sorcery + Crepus's Vial talisman if you are a mage. You can run however you want and Winter Lanterns won't see you.
- Anonymous
Why do you need to parry the Aged Untouchable? Ive been spending around 10 minutes now hitting it in the head with a hammer and THAT doesnt drop its shield? Pathetic enemy design.

If lake of rot is the cringest zone from base game from the dlc is this one .

This location is one big gimmick. Forced stealth and walking on foot throughout this entire dismal place.
- Anonymous
very good area, albeit a little long for how empty it is. felt like it was just padding some of the map honestly, but the vibes were perfect.

Frenzyflame bros get an area but nothing for beast? I feel cheated.

I recommend having the beast repellent torch out for the rats

For those of you lost and/or struggling in this area, you basically need to get to the SW corner of the map, where there is a mansion with the main boss of area. If you see a bunch of Inquisitor enemies you're going the right way.
There is a path that forks into a small cliff uphill, which leads to the madman cookbook (2), and then you need to go back down and hop down some cliffs and basically head straight SW. There will be a large group of Inquisitors (like 6 or 7) clumped together, and then if you kill them/sneak past them you should end up in front of the mansion.
I actually quite like this area. Completely secret, locked behind a catacomb that's missable and being forced to stealth is a nice change of pace. Being forced to be on foot adds to the dread and the atmosphere; though I will admit the area overall is a *smidge* too big and the two cookbooks being the only major rewards are a little disappointing.
Remember that are a surprising number of ways to bolster your stealth. For those of you veterans who know of the old DS trick of Slumbering Dragoncrest Ring/Spook + Hidden Body trick to run past areas, that combo exists in ER and works 100% here. Blue Dancer Charm, Crepus's Vial, Assassin's Gambit, Unseen Form, Lamenting Visage in any combination are all viable methods and will basically allow you to saunter right past the Winter Lanterns.

The boss in the area is an absolute lore God. And that CUTSCENE.

Judging by the descriptions of the Aged One's Exultation talisman, I think those Winter Lantern lookalikes are supposed to be called Aging Untouchables. Not sure if the name is supposed to refer to them singularly or plurally, though.
That aside, what others have said about needing to parry and riposte them is indeed true — and if that doesn't kill, their intangibility shroud will drop for a few moments while they're getting back up, making them dead meat once you get that parry.
Good luck getting that parry, though — as far as I can tell, if that grab connects then you are guaranteed to die, no matter how tough you are.

So i died and got respawned at the grace literal miles away, this place blows

Trying to use bewitching branch on the Wintern Lanters after parry only builds madness on you :)
Definitely had nothing nefarious in mind. :)

I like to think this is the closest thing we can get if the Usui forest from Sekiro where Lady Butterfly trained in illusions.

Man it really hurts to see this area being rushed through and not properly utilized, I really like it when games add new mechanics like this to spice up the gameplay. It always baffled me that From didn't make areas or dungeons featuring specifically the rare ailments like madness, sleep or frost.
They really needed to decrease the size of the map so they could actually refine it without it being so empty and underdeveloped. Were they overly ambitious or what happened?
- Anonymous
Oh boy, I did not like this area. Long stretches of nothing and you can't ride torrent.
- Anonymous
This area looks cool, is super creepy but honestly...kinda lame. Even tough Torrent seems to be "scared" th area is way to big to be explored by foot. So thank god, there is not much to be found here! /s in case it wasnt clear. Feels like FromSoftware tried to stretch runtime here.
- Anonymous
The fact that there was not one, but TWO gigantic locations I almost completely missed just because I thought "Eh Ill check out that dungeon later" is insane
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Definitely one of those zones that makes me wonder why the hell so many people lined up to drool all over the open world in Elden Ring. Huge, mostly empty, waste of time. At least the vibe is effectively creepy, but the zone is about five times bigger than it should have been.
- Anonymous
do we have any lore on the winter lanterns yet? i love their design

- Anonymous
I loved the literal fear this place put in me, but I wish this place had more stuff, it's so empty. Came here to see what items there is to get but looks like I already got everything.

- Anonymous
Yay, the worst designed enemies in Bloodborne are now also in Elden Ring.
There is 0 reason only parries should work on them.
- Anonymous
Between this are and half the bosses in this game, I think from soft is trying to tell us they want to make another sekiro
- Anonymous
If you wear the Black Knife Armor with the cloak on, making your steps silenced, you can literally run around and never get attacked by the frenzied dudes. I was actually so confused running around there before coming to read this wiki page since I wear this armor all the time.
- Anonymous
Don’t even bother trying to backstab them even when crouched they instantly turn and detect you once you get in range to try too
- Anonymous
Exactly South of the Divided Falls grace there's a wall making rat noises, if you hit it you hear the rats walking, I killed rats in the area and its still going, so either, From messed up coordinates for a few rats and they spawned in a wall or there's some cave we are yet to find.
- Anonymous
To add onto Fexlea's comment, I did not have to execute a riposte to damage a Wintern Lanters; I beat it to death with a physical weapon (dryleaf) after a parry animation went off and missed the timing so I ended up just hitting it until it died.
- Anonymous
This place is so goddamn creepy, I love it. And Torrent being too scared to come out kinda makes sense if you think about it, because it is shown that he dies in the Frenzied Flame ending, in the version where Melina survives and swears revenge on you.
- Anonymous
The art design is amazing here. Not a lot of good loot to reward exploring though.
Anyone else hear the rats squeaking up on a cliff, south of the Divided Falls site of grace? I couldn't find a way up there and I swear the squeaking is coming from up there.
Also, the map shows a large area behind the Manse but couldn't find a way there either. Probably just there to fill in the map, but who knows.

Areas like this remind me of why the FromSoft games are special, it amazes me that people just want these games to be boss rushes.
- Anonymous
Brilliant and unique zone, turned into a survival horror game for a moment. And you knew it was going to be something special when the horse peaced out, and you saw the messages about the monsters before heading into those woods.
- Anonymous
anyone know what's up with the glowing owl with horns above the waterfall grace?
- Anonymous
Equipped black knife armor and just ran around for a good hour with zero care.
Aside from the area looking cool, there's nothing to be found.
This area was BEGGING for a mutated goat with antlers boss or some other Lovecraft bloodborne ****, but no.
It's just empty...
- Anonymous
Great. They brought back the Bloodborne guy who induced madness insta kill
- Anonymous
You can actually survive the frenzy succ attack if you stack fire resist and Focus. Of course you can pretty much only ever tank it once but it's something.

- Anonymous
For an area that takes up so much space its kinda empty and unrewarding.
- Anonymous
Honestly amazing area. The messages at the start really set the mood for how horrific everything is, alongside the first encounter with the Frenzied Elders
- Anonymous
Yeah this place sucks balls. I ain't ever returning here after clearing it once.
- Anonymous
There ist also the frenzyflame perfume bottle to be found. It's in the abandoned church - church ruins site of Grace.

- Anonymous
Does anyone know if something happens if you arrive to this area while being Lord of Frenzied Flame in the base game?
- Anonymous
For those struggling to find this area, the best way is actually in the black keep, in the entrance area with boats, there is a ladder on the side, leading you in the moat, behind a waterfall is a room with a painting and a secret wall, behind that secret wall is a coffin that will lead you to it.
- Anonymous
This enemies are very weak to bleed, they took no damage from the hits but the build up happens!
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Atmosphere is really cool and I do like having to stealth through the area, that being said its a bit too open with sparse in-between (which seems to be the case with a couple of areas) which I guess adds to the sense of "Being lost in the woods" as well as the enemies being creepy in design.
I think it would be improved by having more narrow/shorter routes to head through, maybe akin to the forbidden lands in the base game.
- Anonymous
is there anything else here besides two god damn cookbooks? this dlc somehow has even worse loot than the main game smh

Oh no, this isnt miyazaki's poison swamp!
It's miyazaki's madness swamp!
- Anonymous
Scoured the whole area and besides the manor there’s two cookbooks (for frenzy pots lmao), rain that’s clipping through walls, and many dead ends. Exploration is unrewarding and you don’t have Torrent so it’s long as well.
- Anonymous
From software trolling us again with the trailer. Anyone else remember how they thought this area was a death swamp? And they literally show you riding torrent towards the mansion? Yeah it's just water with some shitty lighting effects and you have to run the entire way..
- Anonymous
Was not expecting them to bring back the winter lanterns from bloodborne but I’m glad they did.
- Anonymous
Fromsoft has gone easy on us, telling us exactly it's a stealth level instead of letting us figure it out
- Anonymous
The best area from has ever produced. Holy crap. The atmosphere is unbelievable.

easily the worst region in the dlc, hot having torrent made my finger hurt from having to hold the run button so much

Not being able to use your horse here when it's this freaking large is obnoxious. There's also no clear direction of where to go.
Enemies that can't be killed is very bad design, and it's not scary at all. definitely a failed region.

PSA: You kill the Wintern Lanters by executing parry and Riposte. The one closest to the Church will drop a talisman, the rest will drop grapes. They do not respawn. I killed them all hoping it would "unfear" torrent but he's still a scaredy cat so enjoy your leg day.
